Dinner last evening at Molly Malone's. Service bad, food bad. Ordered bottled beer. Waiter brought. Beer not cold. Need glasses. Waiter brought. Beer was stale, asked for replacement, waiter brought. Beer not cold. Ordered burger with onions. "They come with onions." "Fine, just onions. Medium well please." Food comes. Fries .not hot and undercooked. Burger stacked high with add-ons. "I just wanted onions. Fries are not cooked enough." Waiter in minor huff now. Food returns. Fries a little better but far from McDonald's. Burger? Thick pink in the middle and cold. NOT medium well. I didn't bother with another do-over. In sum: stale and not cold beer, undercooked fires, and burger not as ordered by two measures. Waiter didn't touch back with us even after I raised my hand as he passed. This is simply not acceptable. I am a customer, paying the bills. Quality standards very poor. Adult supervision needed for wait staff and cooks. Avoid for now.

Worst bar I have ever been to! Over priced drinks, bartenders are rude, and the bouncers kick people out for no reason! I was here last weekend and saw a bouncer assult a girl and push her down the concrete stairs fir no reason.Luckily there was a police officer standing there to catch her before she hit the bottom! Also, this bar is known for being packed with underaged kids. I would advise everyone to steer clear of this bar! It may have a good outdoor atmosphere but so does osheas and many other bars in the area!

The food and service are always great & they are super sweet to my puppy! They don't mind if he sits with me on the patio & they even bring him water! I'll definitely be back.

We got to Louisville on the Friday evening preceding the Kentucky Derby, ate dinner, and immediately drove to Bardstown Road (a trendy road dominated by an eclectic mix of unique restaurants, bars, and shops) to take part in pre-Derby festivities. Our first (and only) stop of the night was at Molly Malone's, a 5,000 or so square foot bar with indoor and outdoor areas. We were shocked that the bar was charging a $10 cover but we paid it, the crowd told us Molly Malone's was the place to be. The night was warm but stormy and humid so we ventured to the patio area, which was covered enough to keep out the rain but open enough to feel a cool breeze. It took us fifteen minutes to get our first round of expensive drinks. Vodka Cranberrys ran $5.75, Bud Light bottles a whopping $4.50...add tip onto that and we spent a little more than $25 on four small drinks. We were disappointed at the cost but shrugged it off as, a little later on; drunken bar goers were buying our group rounds (which is why we ended up staying at Molly's until a little after 2AM). I was told that Molly's cover is usually between $2-3, and beers usually run $3.50, the bar had hiked up the cost on everything in celebration of Derby. Fun place to go for sure, though I'd like to try it again on a night that it isn't THE place to be in Louisville.

Great place to watch the World Cup. Kinda pricey pints, but worth it for the atmosphere. BBC Kolsch is a tasty crisp, clean seasonal.

When the Irish side of me gets thirsty this is where I go.The Guinness is fresh and they know what a Black & Tan or Black Velvet is. Molly's reminds me of what I'd expect a modern Dublin pub to look and feel like. In the Highland's, this is where we usually find ourselves here after eating someplace else for dessert, coffee and a couple pints. I especially enjoy the Bread and Butter pudding. We have gone there for dinner as well. When I miss Mother and home, I have the corn beef and cabbage. I love the Scotch Eggs and can feel my arteries harden as I eat them. The fish and chips can be hit and miss. I've seen the fish done to perfection, fried too brown or soggy. The beef-and-potato shepherd's pie could use a little salt but I find that many restaurants under season anyway and it's easier to add salt than to take away. There are plenty of TVs around the bar and it's a great place to watch sports. There is parking in the rear but it can be tight. I would say that wheelchair access is through the back door as the street entrance has stairs.

The Guiness is good, fish and chips authentic, but my usual favorite bangers and mash leaves a little to be desired. I wish they would work on trad music. Good atmosphere in the fun part of Bardstown area.

Had to laugh at the "$10 dollar cover" comment...that's nothing coming from Chicago.....this place ia an alright place to start, but not end "Derby Weekend"!!!

Decent bar food, awesome pub quiz, and great spot to go watch the "dude-bros" on the weekends.

Money well spent. We went here one weekend in December after 4th Street failed to impress (guessing due to the weather). The $5 cover was the best money I've ever spent on a cover. Walked in to a packed bar and instantly knew this was the place to be. The dance floor was pretty busy and the crowd was fun to be around. We stayed until close and enjoyed every minute. Not quite as authentic as other Irish pubs I've been to but never-the-less a great place to be. Crowd and music was diverse which made it even more fun to stay until close (still packed at close as well). My experience in Louisville is limited but Molly Malone's was great fun.

Molly Malone's is a great Irish Pub to get some fish and chips and drink a pint or two or three....things are getting blurry....That seemed to happen quite a bit when I used to go to Molly's. The place can get packed with gobs of southern females. They also tend to attract the Hoosier ladies as well. Trivia night, irish bagpipers. They have all that too. Definately one of my favorite bars in the Highlands. Always a good time.

Great Irish pub on the main drag in Louisville. The bartender downstairs in the indoor/main portion of the bar was not at all friendly, and he didn't really have a reason to be, he wasn't busy. I'd never been to Louisville before, so I asked for a Mint Julep. I was surprised to get a simple, "No," and that's it. I'm sure he gets that request about a million times a week from idiots like me, but there's three things that bartenders should never be, rude, dismissive, and silent. He was all three. I'm not going to bitch about that guy though, it might have been a bad night for him. The outdoors deck was a cool place to drink. I was here alone so I just leaned on the rail and smoked while I watched the street below. I was able to successfully start up a conversation with the bartender out here at this bar station, and I learned why I couldn't get a Mint Julep, so it was a good end to the night. THE KEETH

Went here for trivia on a Thursday night. Their patio looked really nice, but trivia was indoors in the back room. Our waiter was friendly and gave suggestions on what to drink. Menu had a great selection, I had some potato skins which were delicious.

3 words, Fish n Chips. Oh my God they were so good, like comparable to the real thing from England or Ireland good. Only down side to the meal was it was so hot and fresh I kept burning my mouth as I tried to eat it, so a good problem to have. My husband had yhe lamb stew, which was good, but not as good as the fish :) Ad to that the fact that they have a huge patio amd are dog friendly, and this is soon to be my favorote place to eat. Tuesdays they also have special beers where you keep the glass. Mine was about $7 for the beer and $11 for the entrée. They also do chips and curry if you need a tasty snack. I will definitely be back.

By far the worst thing about Molly Malone's are the Americans that come in saying that they're Irish, and wearing stupid shirts that say "Made in Ireland" or something. Other than that, it's a good place. Food is average to decent. Beer is normally priced, I guess. Where MM's is awesome - they show English Premier League soccer, rugby, Gaelic sports, etc. My wife is English, and she loves her England soccer. When the World Cup is on, there is NO better place to go. And it's full of Brits and Irish. So my wife feels right at home. The Irish wannabe Americans are incredibly annoying, though.

I enjoy Molly's on a busy weekend night, although no matter how busy they will always charge a cover. The inside bar is full of a bunch of college people looking for a fight while the bouncers look the other way. But upstairs in outside bar its very different bartenders are super friendly and you dont have to wait 20 minutes for a drink. Although i have only eaten at Mollys a few times i really didnt care for it.Its over priced and not that good.

This place was so adorably authentic looking. Nice servers, good food, good beer. Seems like it'd be fun on St. Patty's day too!

Yay! (+) Blackened Chicken Salad involved some of the tastiest chicken I've ever had, true story. (+) Mint julep was made properly. (+) Constant refilling of water + soda pop. (+) Attentive wait staff. (+) Massive outdoor seating area, with umbrellas if ya need shade. (+) You can bring your pup inside. (+) There was a manager walking about yelling organization points to the staff... With an Irish accent. Sweet. (+) Extra nice waiter fellow, Boris. Maaaaan... (-) Mint julep wasn't very strong. Unless it was the sun melting the ice. (-) Bread + Butter Pudding didn't stand up to the high standards I have for bread pudding, though if put in front of me, I'd happily eat it again. I love pubs. And this was a good one.

Went there the day before my birthday on the recommendation of a "subordinate" of my boyfriend. I had a fairly decent Guinness and a yummy corned beef and cabbage dinner. I forget what my boyfriend had. The Man U - Man City match was on, so we caught a bit of that. Decent place but you can do better in the 'ville.

An above-average Irish pub that earns the fourth star for its abundant outdoor seating. Food and drink always tastes better in a beer garden. My bangers and mash were delicious and bountiful. I felt like such a glutton for eating the entire serving; it was easily big enough to have made for lunch the next day.

I am basing this review strictly on cocktails only, so it is pretty limited. We were in for a mid afternoon drink on a very hot August day while visiting Louisville. Nice ambiance, and a lot of seating. It was actually a pretty large bar. Good service, very friendly. This California girl is forever grateful for Molly Malone's for introducing me to a drink that is made with sweet tea vodka, and lemonade. I am sure this drink has been around forever, but sweet tea is not exactly an everyday beverage in Cali. These were so tasty, and went down so easily!

Went there and ate outside. It was pretty good, but I had fish and chips and they were pretty soggy. The atmosphere seems great and a lot of people around me seemed like they come often.

Halfway through Black Friday, our bellies demanded attention, and Molly's was one of the first restaurants in sight. The atmosphere was a traditional Irish restaurant setting that appears to be set up for fine late night Irish fun with additional outside decks and seating. I was impressed with the extra large Christmas tree on the front patio (although it was not yet decorated). The staff was attentive and friendly, and the food was very good. The Reuben sandwich was very good and the best of it's kind with large slabs of fresh corned beef and lots of delicious sauce. The French fries also were as good as the come...nice and crunchy on the outside with soft potato inside....I ate every last one! I also had the garden salad which was a better than just a garden salad and the dressing (ranch) was fresh and appealing.

There has been well-spoken turnover in the kitchen, and it shows...badly. My past three meals here have been particularly bland and poorly cooked. This time around: Pest Grilled Chicken tasted like something out of a Lean Cuisine box, but with less flavor. The cauliflower side I had with it was an obvious straight-from-the-freezer-to-the-steamer and lacked ANY seasoning. I think it's time for another kitchen turnover here...

I'm back in Ireland! Excellent food, excellent atmosphere! The corned beef and cabbage was fork tender, the shepards pie was cooked in Guinness (tasted like it-yummy), and the fish and chips was juicy! Everything was cooked in a traditional Irish way! I'm in love!

Top notch Irish pub. Food ranges from pretzels with beer cheese, reubens, buffalo chicken wraps, mozzarella sticks, apple pie and ice cream, and a few others. 1 page front and back menu. Large selection of liquor and beer. Great place to go and get drunk anytime of day.

I'm here pretty regularly due to the place being within easy walking distance of my house. There are a few Irish-style pubs on this strip of Baxter, none of which are truly Irish, but I like this one the best. The patio is beautiful in a raised space above the street level, so it's not as noisy as other restaurants in the area. Indoors, it's comfy with plenty of seating and gorgeous stained glass windows, although the lighting is consistently too bright for it to be truly authentic. The menus vary between the St Matthews Molly Malone's with some overlap, and the Highlands Molly Malone's definitely has the better menu options in my opinion. The Highlands location has several more vegetarian options which are quite good. I almost always get the vegetarian shepherds pie when I'm here because I don't know of anywhere else in Louisville where I can get vegetarian shepherds pie, and a side of curry chips because they're bizarre yet endearing. Until last autumn, they had a tofu sandwich but it was discontinued and I'm pretty sure I actually cried in the restaurant the day I found it absent from the menu.

This place is awwright. Good beers on draft. Good bar. Bad ass Irish-bloke game is played out. Cool it tard! I got it, you're Irish... (So am I). Better off just being cool & pouring pints. Not horrible. Not spectacular.

This is my first time here. I brought my sister who is visiting from Southern California. All I really have to say is wow. The service was quick, but it was a slow lunch so that was expected . Our server was great with good recommendations, and boy did I pick the right dish. I had the Irish Curry Chicken and Rice. Holy crap. The sauce was seasoned oh so perfectly. The chicken was delicate and juicy. The cauliflower and broccoli were cooked better than I have ever had in a restaurant. Cooked to tenderness, without being soggy, with the perfect bite of crunch. It didn't stop there. My sis had a Southern Fried pork Chop Salad. Loaded with pecans, grapes green apples real shredded cheddar cheese, cherry tomatoes on a bead of spinach, topped with a succulent and crispy southern fried pork-chops and creamy buttermilk ranch on the side. Topped off with a pint of Guinness. Couldn't have been better way to show my sis around Louisville!

  • Victoria T.

The patio is nice. The food was disappointing. I ordered the Shepherd's Pie and found it to be bland and oily. (No, Irish food isn't always bland.) The service was mediocre. There's good people watching at Molly Malone's, though. If you happen to be a sociology or psychology student and want to observe that odd, unsettling combination of self-importance and insecurity in full bloom, this is your location.

Thinking about Flanagan's? Stop right there, compadre, and head across the street. I've heard several people dismiss Molly's as a "bro bar." I, however, love this place. If that makes me a bro, then so be it. I recommend the Ruben. Chunks of tender corn beef smothered in thousand island. I'm dying. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because there is sometimes (always?) a cover to get in on the weekends.

Fantastic chicken curry! The corned beef & cabbage was excellent as was the cappuccino cake. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing. Whenever he passed by, even on the other side of the room, he was glancing in our direction. Good service that isn't pushy seems to be hard to find nowadays. We were there around 6pm on a Friday. When we left a little after 7pm, it was getting pretty busy and I've heard the weekends are always busy. We'll be back!

Having slightly remembered Molly's from a few nights out on Bardstown Rd, a group of girlfriends and I were looking for a brunch place on a cold and wintery sunday. We weren't looking forward to eating, rather drinking. After several places came up as no-goes for (seriously, we had the worst luck!) someone suggested Molly's. It was quite surreal to see the inside of Molly's during the day. We were seated quickly and ordered mimosa's and bloody mary's. Our server was quick and attentive and we had several drinks. After the 3rd mimosa I asked to have some pomegranate liqueur added to my drink but the bar had no such thing. Our server didn't suggest an alternative which is always a nice touch. Girls with bloody mary's was stated to be "pretty good" and they would "order again." Lots of garnishes! We ordered the chips and queso and the queso was quite yummy but the salsa left something to be desired. While Sunday brunch is probably not Molly's speciality, we had a good time! It was AOK for me! Not counting it out for the future.

If you don't like it too crazy go a little early. It gets packed quick. That being said, it doesn't seem to hurt the speed of service at all. The pork chops are delicious, the burgers are delicious and they have magners cider! It is wonderful to sit outside on the patio area if you are able to.

  • Reci G.

Once I was seated out in the outside patio area, it took our waiter 5 minutes to greet our table. Mind you, they weren't busy. Once he finally came outside, he seen very rushed. We couldn't even ask anything about the menu without him trying to rush back inside. I frequent the Molly Malone's on Shelbyville Road, and am always treated very well. I always feel like a valued customer when I leave. Here, I felt ostracized and pushed to the side. We ordered two bud lights to start, after taking at least ten minutes.. He comes out and says they're out of bud light.. Not to mention there was things floating in the bottom of my glass. I am disgusted. This is by far the worst service, I've received.

Great bar in the early evening, but I would tend to avoid it later on the weekends. Recently I went on a Sunday night and there was a great 6-7 person traditional Irish group playing, and it was a great atmosphere.

Not really a chill place to hang out. Security is really hot-headed. I saw more then one of them repeatedly punch a patron in the face (this guy was drunk, but wasn't trying to fight them). The security guys are this aggressive every time I've been there. Plus side: cool bartenders.

While working in the area, I found myself stopping at Mollys. Not completely familiar with Louisville, I decided to be more than fair with the selection that was offered to me. I found myself having a good time. There was a pretty big group of us on a weekend, no problem getting seating or being catered to. Service was okay. It got pretty hectic into the night and seemed like it could be pretty fun! If only I were able to indulge in it.

I've ended up here a few times with friends, here is what I have tried... Super greasy. There was way more fried batter than fish. It was literally dripping with grease. I know its supposed to be fried but it was overboard. 50% fried batter 50% fish. The fish I could tell was frozen. Fries were nothing special, probably come out of bag. The shepards pie was extremely salty, couldn't finish it. It was good at first, but then it was just too overwhelming. Not to mention I had to drain out the oil. The bangers and mash... The sausage I think was frozen breakfast sausages. Same exact sausage you see at cheap complimentary breakfast at hotels. The menu said Rich Gravy, they was beyond rich. It was gunk. I do like the patio for a few drinks during the day in nice weather.

It's alright. I don't come here often but it's always on the radar. The food is decent. They have libations. I got a cider. I think it was Magners. Which is now my least favorite cider (super skunky). Our server on a Sunday afternoon was super accomodating.

Really great Irish pub. I will be back. They have a great patio but it was too hot to enjoy during my visit. It is situated in a nice walkable area. If you are in the area, you should stop in and have a pint.

So we had a mini family reunion this past July at Lebowski Fest (we went as the Seattle Seven for any interested parties) and were spending our last hours of "quality" family time together before the awkward goodbyes. My brother and his wife had brought their black pug along on the trip so we were trying to find an eating establishment where we could eat outside with the dog. We found Molly Malone's. (There seems to be a place called Molly Malone's in every city I've lived/visited.) We were seated outside and I guess this was an early lunch of sorts. I, being the vegetarian of the group, ordered the vegetable egg rolls appetizer as my entree. As I recall, they were decent but I don't know who orders egg rolls at an Irish pub/restaurant. Oh, I guess I do. Anyway. My husband had the steak and swiss sandwich with fries. He said it was "very good." Everyone else had salads or sandwiches and as far as I know, enjoyed theirs as well. Our waitress was very nice and attentive (and a fellow redhead like myself and several other members of my family). I think my mom ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and I recall wanting to order the Irish pretzels but for whatever reason, did not. All in all, a decent lunch and catered to our canine-friendly needs.

My wife and I moved to Louisville not too long ago. We kept hearing about this place and when we drove by we always thought it looked great. Last night we finally ventured in and very much enjoyed our time. We both shared an entree and an appetizer. We are glad that we did because the portion sizes are very large. The chicken with pesto on mashed potatoes was our first choice, and was much better than we expected. The atmosphere is fun! The wooden floors, wooden bar, wooden chairs and tables, stained glass windows, the decorations, and the Irish music made for a great experience.

I pretty much hate Mollys. It is commonly known for being the cool place to go in Louisville and it SOOOO isn't! It always has a cover and never has a band so why do I need to pay to spend more money at your establishment? The drinks are weak and small. The atmosphere is horrible, very clique-y. Good luck talking to someone here you don't already know. Impossible to find parking. This location does have a large interesting patio and an interesting view of Baxter Ave. The only redeeming factor here is the pretzels with cheese sauce, very tasty. There are much better bars in Louisville!

Perfect Summer Establishment Backstory: I have a traditional event that I do frequently called Bourbon and Ballers. This event is a day were all the guests/friends dress up in their cocktail dresses and suits and go out to enjoy a session of drinks. Sessions are the drinking term in England and Europe for when you and your friends go out to socialize and have a few drinks, not get wasted with shots. We attempt to keep our Bourbon and Ballers theme to your Mad Men 1950 style clothing vibe and will go out for 3 to 6 hours. On to the review now... I have used Molly Mallone's on Bardstown Road for every event that I have held for several reasons. Molly's has a private room for parties, they have a large patio area that allows pets, they have a second story venue for larger parties, a great interior downstairs bar/dance floor, and their atmosphere is perfect for the transitioning large crowd. Very relaxed and calm can turn into rowdy and dance club on the weekend nights. I have been to Molly's every year on Easter Sunday when the crowd is low and enjoyed the sunny patio for hours having drinks and light food. Now I would never recommend Molly's as a restaurant, but the food is pub fare and perfect to absorb whatever you are imbibing. I would recommend Molly's for a great Makers (which Osheas does not carry) and imported draft. I have never had bad service here and I have only ever come with crowds. In addition to Bourbon and Ballers which has between 8 to 15 in attendance, I also participate in many pub crawls. The bar is always well staffed, knowledgeable, and prompt. Even in a drunken mistake to my female server, I was excused and forgiven because it was my birthday. I will always choose Molly's for any future sessions with friends.

Last time I was on this stretch of road ... I pretty much hit up every bar except this one. Since tonight wasn't frat boy night, there was actually outdoor seating which my coworkers and I hung out at for a few rounds of drinks. We were checked on often ... the drinks were delivered pretty fast and we sat outside and enjoyed what little breeze passed our way. It's a quiet night so not a whole lot of people watching ... but was a good way to unwind after a long week.

A cab driver told me Molly Malone's and O'Shea's were THE places to find women in Louisville. I hit O'Shea's and it was this odd indoor/outdoor thing and the dudes smoking at the bar outdoors made me sick, so I left and went to Molly's. It was dead on Friday with some private party upstairs, but on Saturday night the place was packed. They have a dance floor behind the bar. They also have a detached upstairs bar out back/to the side. A great selection of beers including Carlsberg. Ran into a group of drunks, but they were nice and friendly. Then at 2 AM I hit the dance floor and met some very, very friendly women. Great night.

Been here several times with a group of friends or just a couple and every time I either meet someone new or have a really great time. Drinks are under $5 on the weekends and bartenders are friendly. Makes for a great place to meet singles or bring your friends to dance and have fun.

I guess if you like paying for "knock off" Irish food than this is the spot for you. If you like paying to get in on the weekend so you can stand in the middle of a pack of douche bags than this the place for you.

5 stars: traditional Irish music, large portions, green leafy greens rather than iceberg lettuce 4 stars: savoriness of complimentary soda bread 3 stars: savoriness of Blackened Chicken Salad 2 stars: they do not have many choices for a healthy, balanced meal.

So I hate to give it such a low rating but there were bugs in my salad! That's right, I was about to eat my salad outdoors when I realized that there was a bug/small fly in it. I thought it had maybe just landed in there. But when I started moving the salad around I realized there were over 10 bugs/little flies crawling around in my salad! Probably more but I couldn't bear to look anymore. I totally lost my appetite. The waiter was nice but I thought he could have done more. Please look before eating your salad!

Everyone I know in Louisville kept telling me to go to this place. I stopped in on a quiet afternoon for some food, a couple pints and some time to enjoy the paper. The little booths in the windows are cute and I would have opted for the lovely patio area had there not been snow flurries outside. It was an ordinary quiet afternoon with few patrons. A few couples and two college girls sitting at the bar, etc. Until a couple came in with their child. This couple seemed to be locals who now lived out of state, but were previously regulars. Overhearing their conversation they said they came straight from the airport and that their child who was fussing and crying most of the time had been up since "4 am, and was very tired". One has to wonder why anyone would bring a child, especially a tired crying child, into a bar. At one point the husband carried the child outside saying, "the last thing I'd want to hear in a bar is a crying child" - very considerate, I thought - until the wife replied "who cares, we're the only ones in here". As if I or the other patrons were completely invisible. Very rude. Because this couple let their child wander around the restaurant others seemed comfortable to talk and chat with them and interact with the little girl. One of the college girls came over to make conversation and the wife began to get very agitated that this young woman was speaking to her husband. Eventually she yelled at the young woman to, "Just stop! Go away!" It was very awkward from my perspective as the young girl was simply doing what one does in a pub in the late afternoon - enjoying a beer buzz and having a chat. What was inappropriate in my eyes was a crying child in a bar. But it didn't stop there... more people came to join their party bringing more crying children. The crying children were multiplying like gremlins. Applebees seemed a much better fit for this inconsiderate group of people. Why is this Molly Malone's problem? Well in short the staff seemed to cater to this large group as they all appeared to be friends. They weren't very friendly to anyone else in the bar and the two girls who were yelled at seemed uncomfortable and left, making the atmosphere even more unbalanced. I personally was waiting for a movie and had about another hour to kill, but the vibe in this place was so twilight zone I left as well. Upon leaving I asked the server if there were always kids here and he replied, "Yes. Until it's late and it turns into a club". Loud clubs full of drunken twenty somethings aren't my thing, so if this place is like a La Petite in the daytime I won't be returning. It's unfortunate too because my friend green tomatoes were delicious. Oh well. I say when it's appropriate to bring babies to a bar, it's appropriate to drink beer in day care facilities. Who's with me?
