So I've driven past this place for years and never gave it a second look or even considered stopping to eat, what a huge mistake on my part! Jimbo's Barbecue is a small and homey place to go when you want good, simple, barbecue served with some excellent side dishes. I had the sampler platter with consisted of two pork ribs, two beef ribs, two chicken wings (which were incredible!) and three slider sized pulled meat sandwiches (chicken, pork, and beef) As others have noted, the meat is served sauce less, but that doesn't mean that it was tasteless, rather it all was very well seasoned and was probably the best sauce less BBQ I have ever had. There is a pair of homemade sauces available on the side, both spicy and not, and they are very good. I also had a side of cinnamon fried apples, which were apples served sliced and infused with a sauce mad from Red-Hots candies. This sounded weird but was super yummy! My wife had a pulled beef sandwich plate, with potato salad, and baked beans on the side, all of with she enjoyed. For dessert we split a hot apple dumpling with whipped cream and caramel served atop vanilla soft serve, an excellent combination that was a great finish to a satisfying dinner. The service was excellent, the waitress made us feel truly at home and was dead on with her recommendations. We will be coming back often as the pricing was very good and more than fair for the quality and quantity of the food. I will be adding Jimbo's Barbecue to my list of places you must try in Louisville.

We chose this place based on Yelp reviews and proximity to Churchill Downs where we had visited the Kentucky Derby Museum that morning. Our lunch was delicious! It's an unpretentious little place in a non-descript neighborhood. We enjoyed the fried green tomatoes appetizer (I think the tomatoes were pickled in vinegar) which had a very tangy and different taste from any we had had before. The breading was perfectly light and they were served with a spicy chipotle sauce for dipping. My husband and I split the Jimbo's sampler plate: two beef ribs (meaty and smoky), two pork ribs (fall-off-the-bone tender), two chicken wings (moist and smoky), and a slider of pulled pork, pulled beef, and smoked chicken - all three of which were good. On offer were a good regular sauce and a great "spicy" sauce that wasn't terribly hot. We saved room for a dish of banana pudding with whipped cream and were glad we did. It was made with instant banana pudding, real bananas, and vanilla wafer cookies. Hit the spot! Highly recommended.

We used Nikki at Jimbo's for our wedding catering and she was fantastic! Very affordable and professional every time I asked her questions and she brought plenty of food but we weren't drowning in excess either - plus the rolls were delicious! I'd recommend her to anyone looking for an affordable caterer with great food!

Salads!? At a barbecue joint? Yes! Surprisingly delicious salads at that. Fresh mixed lettuce and spinach with cucumbers, tomatoes and onions. I topped mine with the pulled chicken. Amazing! The pulled beef is my favorite and yes, you CAN leave the "sauce on the side because there's nothing to hide" but try the spicy version anyway. It's also a great dip for your fries!

This is by far the best bbq you can get. The food always tastes fresh, you get ginormous portions, excellent options and great customer service! We had our wedding catered from here and everyone wanted to take foods home.

I like the BBQ and side dishes, my only concern is portion size. Other BBQ restaurants seem to more generous with their offerings. Prices are good. Food is tasty.

My family and I tried Jimbo's for the first time tonight and it was very, very good. I've been craving a good pulled pork sandwich for a while now and a friend recommended Jimbo's. I'm really glad they did--the pork is smoked and shredded, and they are very thorough about picking out all the fatty parts, which I hate (and a lot of restaurants don't bother with). The menu is fairly simple--as a good BBQ restaurant should be. I commend Jimbo's for doing just BBQ and doing it well. They have a variety of meats, including pulled pork, beef or chicken, ribs, etc. and about ten different side dishes to choose from. The prices are definitely awesome ($6.99 for a sandwich plus two sides). The also have carry out deals for family packs, like pulled pork by the pound, which I greatly appreciate. I've tried a few other non-chain BBQ restaurants in Louisville that I've heard a buzz about, and I was really disappointed---which makes me SUPER happy to have found Jimbo's. I will definitely be back!!!

First, I can't believe I just got around to trying this place, especially because of the lack of sit-down dining options in this part of town. But I'm usually at Iroquois Park with my dogs and it's just never been convenient to stop there before now. So glad I did try this place and I plan to return and sample some more items. The meat was very good, tender pulled beef and I happen to prefer sauce on the side so that is a plus in my book. No fat or gristle at all. The sides were good but not particularly unique or amazing. Just your basic potato salad, green beans, mac and cheese etc. Decent portion sizes, right in line with the price point. I left full but not stuffed. I was disappointed to not get to have fried pickles or fried green tomatoes as their fryer was dead; but they have a new one being installed in a day or two so I will surely try the fried goodness on my next visit. Service was friendly, its a small family kind of place. TVs were tuned to a cooking channel and the volume was off (with subtitles) and country music was playing on the radio at a normal volume. Easy to talk over. The place was very clean and I noticed that not only was their most recent health rating a 100, but their previous two ratings before that were a perfect 100 also. That's rare to see. Oh, and the little bonus points item for me was the lactose free soft serve ice cream. I've never seen that available in a restaurant (only some theme parks). So of course I finished off the meal with a HUGE vanilla cone. Beer available, also frozen pina colada wine coolers were on the specials board. Lacking one star for the "ok" sides (of which I will sample some more kinds and possibly change my opinion on) and since I haven't been able to try any of the fried items. A return visit is in order.

Food: In short, choose your meat and choose your sides. The menu is somewhat limited, but I really had not trouble finding what I like. I have been several times and always enjoy a pulled park sandwich. When in season, the fried green tomatoes are excellent! Meats are served plain, you add your own sauce, spicy and mild options in bottles on the table. Food is served on paper plates. Place: This places appears to have been a residential house. The owners have turned it into a cozy dive. There seems there has been an attempt at a western decor, but the place has a slight identity crises in that respect. Outdoor seating available in warm weather. Service: I've been there several times and I felt like I was waited on by family. The prices are very reasonable. I drove pass this place several times before stopping in. I'm glad I finally did (and I wish I had much sooner!) I've been there several times and while eating, I noticed a good amount of carry-out traffic. Seems like a popular place.

Worst bbq i ever had in my life. It doesn't even smell like a bbq joint. In fact i didn't even smell food when i walked in, which should have been all the indication i needed to leave. The meat is pre cooked & microwaved to order. I gave it a shot & won't go back.
