I am from NYC and this place makes me feel right at home. From the steak to the sushi everything is on point here. The steak quality I would say is even better just because it's local and fresh. The waitresses are gorgeous too .

This was a classy/refined establishment. I had gone there on a business trip and absolutely wished that I could take it back home with me. The menu is amazing (I had the veal chop) and the table shared the side dishes since there were so many that we wanted to try (the caramelized root vegetables were my favourite). Then we ended the night with a sampling of rich and creamy desserts. If you have the means, since it is a bit pricey, then try this at least once. jeffruby.com/louisville-… is the menu's site - that way you can see what they offer and what the cost is.

In summary, I enjoy Jeff Ruby's excellent service, atmosphere, and steak. First of all, the mushroom truffled butter was delicious, there are two types of butter (truffled and unsalted) that is spread on a sour dough bread. For appetizer, I had the blue crab bisque which was a bit plain, but the crabs were meaty and succulent. For the entree, I ordered the 12oz steak (forgot the name) with the Collingsworth sauce with the Mac and cheese sides and creamed corn. The steak was excellent by itself and I would not recommend ordering the Collingsworth sauce as well since it took the seasoned flavor of the steak away. The crab meat that came with the steak topping had no taste and did not taste fresh but I managed to dip it into the steak sauce which gives it a bit of flavor. For the two sides, I ordered the Mac and cheese and creamed corn. The Mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and has a yummy layer of cheese crust on it. I wished the Mac and cheese had a bit more seasoning though to make the macaroni stand out more. The creamed corn was excellent and full of creamy, savory flavor. Overall, I'd recommend the steak and the creamed corn which are both worth trying.

Move over Mortons steakhouse we have a new #3 in my house. They can accommodate my wife's peanut and tree nut allergy like most high end steakhouses. The difference here is they have a cheesecake that she can have. First place we've gone other than Annie Mae's deserts that has this so it scored big for this reason. As far as the steak it was a five star. I got the bone in filet and my wife got the small filet. Both cooked perfectly. The wait staff was a five star. The reason for the four stars was the sides. The potato was hard rather than fluffy. The macaroni and cheese was OK but I've had better. Besides that it was great. Bought some seasoning to try at home.

The food was divine! My service could have been a little better, but overall it was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a fun night out in downtown with an amazing meal.

Barrel cut filet mignon is the Best steak I have ever had. Seared to perfection. Service is top notch. Very attentive service. Appetizer we ordered the lobster bisque and it was very tasty. For sides we ordered mashed potatoes, Brussels stouts and asparagus. All were cooked to perfection. Parking can be a challenge so opt for valet parking. It's $5 and well worth it.

Some of the best service you'll find - anywhere. We were a group of 12, but could easily have been a table of 2 the way we were treated. Our server, Andre, was the consummate professional. We had a great round of appetizers, including steak tartare and ceviche. The tartare had fantastic flavor and consistency. I went with the aged ribeye and scallop surf and turf option, and while it was very good, I wish I had chosen the sushi and sashimi combo, someone else at our table had it and it looked amazing.

This place is fun, lively and has a live band standing on the bar!! It's an upbeat, upscale steak house. It's a bit loud so if your thinking soft, candle light romance, this is not it. If your looking for a lively and entertaining evening with your mate...then this is the place. The food was great, as to be expected. Although the sushi was some of the best I've ever had. I'm from Boston and that's a hard thing for me to admit in the middle down here in Louisville! I thanked the chef! The staff are super nice and nicely trained in the skillful art of 'how can I make you happy.' My compliments to the management!!! The missing star was for my slightly cold steak and the super salty mashed potatoes. The steak was worth it, very tender and the red wine sauce was outstanding. If your conservative, up-tight and could be at risk for OCD with expectations of dining...this may not be the place for you! BUT life is too short to not pair fun with food. GO-IMBIBE-ENJOY!

Pork chops, sushi and drinks were amazing. Service was decent. Server cut us off , table of 8, after 2 bottle of wine.

Been three times in the last 10 months. First time (weeknight), as I walked into the bar area (which was dimly lit at the time), my forehead contacted the pointy ear of the brass horse on the immediate right. Not a great start but was otherwise okay. Just had drinks. Staff not very helpful in stopping the bleeding though and seemed generally indifferent about the whole thing. Second time (weekend), began with door flying open and glass breaking around us as a recent ex-employee (stlll wearing insignia shirt) expressed frustration at his firing by crushing main door while we were trying to enter. Most of staff thought it was kind of funny b/c there was apparently a wage issue by the employee and they informed us that managment had him arrested for the vandalism (?) that happened directly in front of us. Otherwise, our little birthday celebration had good service, food and drinks. No apology by management (or anyone) for our beginning experience. Third time (weeknight), there were events going on the bar area and the place was woefully understaffed (only two bartenders -- but six hostesses walking around -- go figure). Had a horrible time getting any service and wasn't helped by the fact that the bartenders kept taking people out of order. In fact, she started to take the order of the guy next to me and he insisted that I should be first b/c I had been waiting so much longer but she ignored that plea.. On top of that, wouldn't answer any questions. Then gave someone back a different person's credit card and had to fix that problem before I eventually received the wrong order. Total wait time standing at the bar was a legimitate 25 minutes. After all that, I said my goodbyes and went elsewhere. I can't think of any reason to go back there given the price point. It shouldn't be a game of "whether we get good service or not" when you show up. There are just so many better options. Almost feel like taking off another point b/c the brass ear still sticks out at head height after 10 months (and probably longer). Raise it a few more inches off the floor, put something in front of it to prevent injury, or relocate it. Not rocket science.

We were there on Feb. 7 with a large group. The servers were amazing despite dealing with some difficult folks in our group. Really like the decor and the atmosphere of the restaurant and our wait staff were doing an amazing job with our group. My husband and I started with oysters, which were extremely disappointing. They were gritty and smaller than we expected. I get better oysters at Joe's OK Bayou, which are never gritty. My husband and I ordered the mushrooms to split and he got a steak and I ordered the lamb. The mushrooms were excellent and the lamb was good (although it was a bit overcooked, I owed that to the size of our party). The steak was very disappointing, overcooked and not at all what I expect from a prime steak. Not even remotely close to prime steaks we've enjoyed in the past. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty, but disappointing compared to other prime experiences. Overall, it was a positive experience, and I'd probably go back and sit in the bar area and listen to the band and have some appetizers and cocktails (did I mention the bourbon selection was AMAZING). I would choose to go to another Louisville restaurant for steaks and oysters in the future...one with consistent quality.

I visited while traveling alone so I ate at the bar (full menu). I had the Steak Collinsworth which is a filet with lobster/crab sauce on top along with the Freddie salad and creamed spinach. The salad was great with a buttermilk ranch tossed in with bacon. The steak was melt in your mouth and spinach just as tasty. Good pours of bourbon and warm sourdough bread made it a fantastic meal.

Phenomenol resturant, live music great settings and not to mention Awesome food! I love this place my wife and I went there for the first time on our first anniversary! Love it! Highly recommended also on line with the Louisville Carriage group, after a good meal take your special someone on a carriage ride around down town Louisville at night!

Great food, wine, beer, selection! Awesome service. As good as it gets. We had Filet Collingsworth and Filets with truffle butter along with four sides. Meat was cooked to perfection! Been here three times now. I always look forward to coming back. I like it better than Eddie Merlots (even though it is good there too)

How can this be anything short of 5 stars? From the ambiance to service, wine menu, crab legs and steak off the bone. Top notch! Couldn't afford to go here often but for that special night, this is just the ticket. Keep up the good work!

Nothing says class like this location. Just finished hosting my 4th annual Jeff Ruby's Dinner for my clients. Had 60 this year! Yes, it does take a few months to book along with a deposit but you cannot go wrong. Aleady have it booked for our 5th annual. As always, the private room with a menu begninning of choice of salad, then fish, steak, or chicken, accompanied with potato, asparagus, and finished off with desert of choice. I have yet in 4 years hosting parties to have anything sent back nor have I had nothing by rave reviews by my clients. Mike, John, and John are the perfect waiters. These young fellows are not your fly by night team, they are "professional" waiters that have chosen this as their career path. Top notch. Costs? Ruby's is NOT cheap so be prepared to spend $$$$ on the rating scale. If you are just dining and bringing your wonderful other to a romantic dinner do yourself a favor. Just like the group, make sure you provide ample reservation time. Do it in person. Reserve a wall booth, again way in advance, you will have a great time. When in the 4th Street Live and Main area of Louisville this is where I go, well here and Eddie's. This area is touristy, and convention folk loaded so all items are rather high. Louisville does have an old town with great restaurants too, but here it's Ruby's.

Had a very good meal last night. Initially tried to get a reservation and was told nothing available until too late in the evening so proceeded to the restaurant anyways with the intention of finding a spot at the bar. Well even that was completely filled. With patience - and some luck, a table within the bar area opened up and my partner and I were able to secure it (good thing we had some extra cash on us!). Service was very good and as I ping ponged between a bone-in filet and a 22 oz. rib eye - chili rubbed, I decided to go with the rib eye. Boy! was that delicious. Also had a very good Caesar salad, a very good baked potato, creamed corn and long French beans. My partner's filet looked great as well. After that meal, convinced that this place ranks among the best steakhouses in Louisville.

Great environment for a group or a quiet romantic dinner. Service is great and the Steaks are perfect. Had the new york strip twice and it was perfectly cooked and tender both times. The sides are good, especially the corn. Not usually a big corn fan, but this dish is awesome! 2 complaints, the appetizer menu is very limited on non-seafood offerings and the bar will not let you carry over your tab to your final destination table. For a restaurant of this magnitude and price level, they should accommodate.

The atmosphere is great, the steaks are delicious. Not a fan of their sushi. Not a fan of their prices. Definitely not a fan of a meal taking over 2 hours from beginning to end unless I want it to. If you have out of towners and plenty of time, go. Otherwise, dine at the bar, way more fun and better service.

Located inside or attached to the Galt Hotel in Downtown Louisville, this is the place to be seen during any Horse Event as it was this past weekend for the 28th Breeders Cup World Championships. Haven't eaten here before but never reviewed with a larger party, I thought it would be time to do this place justice. PACKED every night the bar area 3 / 4 / 5 Deep with Piano music till about 8:30PM when a live band performs that is not too loud to bother the dining patrons yet the bar where you have Sit at your own risk seats available for persons who are interested in dining in that area without reservations. You can also eat at the bar but with everyone pushing for cocktails it's a difficult thing to do. I can assume on less crowded times it would be acceptable, but Breeders Cup Weekend Think again. Styled after the New York City steakhouses of long ago, the menu features dry aged (on premises!) USDA prime beef, as well as some local favorites. Seafood lovers will be delighted with our fresh raw and sushi bar, as well as the seafood entrees. The dark, rich interior is as visually exciting to the eye as our food is to the palate. Three of us for dinner tonight. The service is fast, brisk and very professional with the first group of gentlemen setting up water etc, followed by more gentlemen taking drink orders giving hints to the menu and providing a wine list. A very diverse offering from the wines with a markup that is considered acceptable based on location, style etc. After choosing our Vino for the evening we settle on our dining options as well. 3 Of us for dinner tonight And we start with a few items from the Seafood Bar Huge Tiger Shrimp, Alaskan King Crab legs, amble lemon, cocktail sauce and freshly shaved horse radish. All I can say is never have I ever had King Crab legs this sweet, fresh and tasty. The Shrimp were cold, crisp and also excellent and the cocktail sauce just spicy enough. Also an Iceberg Lettuce Wedge - with Maytag Bleu was just enough to offset seafood and the fresh bread with regular butter or truffle butter was simply outstanding. 3 Steaks selected tonight 1 Cowboy Steak - $51.00 In-House Dry Aged Bone-In Rib eye second steak was a New York Prime King Strip - $39.00 Dry Aged In-House on the Bone Third special was a Bone in Filet Mignon $55.00. Each steak is cooked with a considerable amount of CHARRED but the temperature inside was perfect on all 3 cuts. Its rich, flavorful, marble where expected and quite honestly tasting all 3 steaks each had its own distinct flavor and texture yet they were all some of the best cuts of meat I've ever eaten. Two sides were shared by 3 a Lobster Mashed Potatoes - 9 Poached Lobster Tail, Lobster Butter & Tobiko & Macaroni & Cheese - 9 6 Imported Cheeses crusted over and baked. Both sides were simply Incredible. They were rich creamy and tasty beyond words. After skipping deserts we walked out of here marveling at how good this place was with top to bottom excellent southern hospitality and service, incredible food, energy and atmosphere that was second to none and some of the prettiest gals around. This is a MUST VISIT for anyone in the Louisville area. A top 5 Experience for the Shellfish and Steak lover!!! Big Thumbs up!

It was a nice atmosphere when we walked in with vibrant and colorful decor. I shared the Bone-In Filet Mignon, a side of Truffled Creamed Corn and Lobster Mashed Potatoes. YUMMMMM. Dinner was pretty amazing as the meat was so tender and juicy. The creamed corn was truffle-tastic and highly addicting. And the lobster mash was so creamy and rich. They did not skimp in the portions, as all the portions were plentiful. This is a big change to some steak houses I've been to where their "a la carte'" sides usually can't satisfy two people. Overall thoughts: Definitely a great steakhouse. Prices were very reasonable and I didn't feel ripped off. The setting was also more casual then I expected which is a good thing when you just want to enjoy your meal without fancy pants judgment.

LOVED the Steaks and Atmosphere. Very hip and swank. As nice as any of the major top flight places.

Jeff Ruby's is my favorite place to eat in Louisville. The atmosphere is bright and cheerful. Best of all, no pretentious attitudes to speak of. Steaks are great, seafood is great, not impressed with the sushi. Salads are huge! You get great portions for the money. My only complaint is that some of the wait staff seem inexperienced.

  • Ryan M.

The food is good, but certainly not impressive. The steaks are fatty and chewy with the occasional tough gristle. I always feel like I'm at an overpriced, tacky, and trendy chain restaurant when I come here. The bar area is the only aspect of this place that is worth visiting. They have good drinks and the music is pretty good. The best steaks I've had in Louisville came from Jack Fry's and Gary's on Spring.

Traveled to Louisville for work from NYC and didn't expect much. I was taken out for a client dinner and expected to have reservations at something generic like morton's or benihana or ruth's chris, to my surprise, we had reservations at a small chain, jeff ruby's. I'll just cut to the chase and say this was the best steak I've ever had. I ordered the filet on the bone medium rare. I am not the MOST experienced person when it comes to steak (more of a fish person), but this steak was incredible. I was not as impressed with the sides. We ordered the lobster mac and cheese, and classic creamed spinach - both had very little flavor and were extremely overpriced. Started with the tiger shrimp, crab legs and oyster dish and it was fairly good considering the ocean is a few hundred miles away. Check the place out - their steak is amazing, drinks are strong.

This is the best steak I have ever eaten. The outside was nice and crispy while the inside was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. I ordered a side of creamed spinach and while it was good, I really wanted the mac and cheese. I did learn that you can order a half order of any side except the mac and cheese. I arrived at 7:45pm on a Thursday night without a reservation and it was packed. There were no tables available so I was instructed to try to find a place at the bar. It was busy but I only had to wait about 10-15 minutes until a seat became available. The bar staff (Sarah and Dave) were very helpful, friendly and attentive. A special delight was the piano player who played a whole assortment of great music, including taking requests. I'm a big fan of this place and consider it a gem of Louisville.

  • Eric M.

OK..I have been here 5 times and still cannot find something to complain about. Yes it is very pricey, but you get what you pay for. I get the Barrel Cut Filet, which is plenty big enough after eating the sides, and I am a eater! The sides are family style, enough to share with one or two other people. The service is awesome, they will pretty much attend to whatever you request. Try the drink with the bourbon and house made "smoked" cola, after two of those you are in the right spot! In my opinion, go there if you are meat eaters, there are a few other dishes and seafood, but the steak is perfect. If you find anything to complain about, I would like to know because I cant. Go early or make a reservation, or try to sit near the bar, I think its still first come first served. If you go later, they sometimes have entertainment that plays above the bar, really cool. The atmosphere around the bar is kind of Vegas in my opinion, which I like, and elegant if you are sitting in the main dining area. love this place!

Solid steak with great seasoning. Service was a little....weird. And the waiter didn't know the wine list, so that was a bit offputting.

DISCLAIMER: I travel ALOT and choose some pricey places usually one evening per trip. To me, Maestro's is the steakhouse of which all other steakhouses should be judged. I was dining alone, so decided to eat at the bar. Live piano player was very good. Bartender was great. She was attentive, friendly, efficient, and beautiful. But you go here for food, thus the 3 star rating. The steak was under cooked to my order (medium plus--I know it's heresy to many of you). The creamed spinach had too much garlic and cream. This may be one of the best steakhouses in Louisville, but I think Flemings and Ruths Chris offer a better dining experience. What they don't offer is the lively bar scene, so I would probably go again just because it was fun and I would have a better idea of what and how to order.

I've eaten at Jeff Ruby's several times and have never been disappointed. In my opinion these are the best steaks in Louisville. They are dry aged in house unlike the other steak houses around town that serve wet aged steaks. Their steaks have always been cooked perfectly and served promptly. As far as the sides are concerned I like their loaded mashed potatoes and the mac and cheese, though I do have to give Morton's the nod on their mac and cheese. This is the only area I would give the nod to Morton's to, however, as I've always left highly disappointed in their meat! Appetizers at JR's tends to lean heavy to the seafood side. Jumbo shrimp are available from the raw bar and are excellent but pricey at $5 each. I also love their Oysters Rockefeller and was glad that they were finally put on the Louisville menu as Cincinnati has them and Louisville didn't. I still feel the ones in Cincinnati are a little better...creamier and witha richer, fuller flavor. That said, these are still good and kudos for finally adding them to the menu. Service at JR's is something that could use a little work. My experience with some of the wait staff is that they are on the young side and seem to lack some of the experience it takes to cater to a JR's crowd. It wasn't anything that would kill my experience, however, it's not what I would consider five star service. Having said that, I did give a five star award due to the fact that they far and away have the best steaks in town.

First time here and was not impressed with the food. The decor I understand is pretty standard for Jeff Ruby's, but if you've never been there, its kind of like going to Vegas in the 80's The staff was great, but here's what I had. Crab cakes appetizer - Below average, not a lot of crab in there. Jumbo shrimp appetizer - Good cocktail sauce, but the shrimp were over cooked and tough Seared scallops with brussel sprouts and cauliflower - Cooked perfectly, but the too salty with the sauce and vegetables

We had a great time celebrating a birthday. The food and service was amazing. Near the end of the meal, the staff began to rush us and the manager even came over and asked us to leave to accommodate the next reservation. If I am spending that much on a meal, my party will stay as long as we like. I was extremely put off by this and it pretty much ruined our experience. We will not return.

all in all, one of the best meals i've had in a long time.started with the steak tar-tar that had a raw quail egg in the center! amazing. I had the $52 ny strip, worth every penny. the lobster potatoes are not to be missed and the asparagus simply could not have been better. I'm not a steak house guy and yet i would return here. a couple reasons i didn't give five stars. the place is a little pretentious. o.k., a lot pretentious, which i'm not a fan of. the other negative was that jeff ruby himself was showing some dude around and they stood directly in front of our table as he descibed the photo's hanging above us. he made no aknowledgement of our presence and was a litttle too close for comfort. my wife and i found this to be incredibly rude, especially from the owner. all in all, expensive food but worth every dime.

Well, for starters I'm not a big fan of trendy steakhouses. But 2 other couples that we are friends with wanted to go here so I had no choice. The food was fine but as is par for these places it was overpriced. Service started off OK but as the evening went on he kind of disappeared. Half of our table had an empty drink for 15 minutes. And since we were a group of 6 an 18% gratuity was included in our bill. As others have said it is WAY too loud. Nothing like spending $200 for 2 people and having to shout at the person 3 feet away. But actually what I disliked the most was the fact that the tables are crammed next to each other. I mean like tuck your elbows in crammed. And I'm a fairly skinny guy! I gave 3 stars instead of 2 because the food is very good.

Pretty much everything said about this place is in Yelp World is dead on. The Steak (Barrel Cut Fillet, Medium Rare, Pittsburgh Style) was wonderful, and the two bourbons the bartender selected for me we were the perfect accompaniment. The Live Piano Man really completed the experience, as he constantly reached out to patrons at the bar for requests. Foo Fighters Everlong, solo Piano Acoustic... Yup. Reasonably priced by DC standards with pleasant staff, I would return should I ever find myself in Louisville again.

My parents came to town and asked around at their hotel for recommendations, and thus we went to Jeff Ruby's. We started off with the Louisville roll (sushi at a steakhouse..!??), which was PHENOMENAL. I really wished there was more (only 5 pieces) and the crab soup, which had TONS of crab meat. Definitely worth the price. We then had the Freddie salad (romaine, bacon, tomato, ranch dressing) - EXCELLENT bacon - and the iceberg wedge. For main course, I got the barrel-cut filet. It arrived just as ordered - a perfect medium rare. My mom ordered her petit filet medium, and it came out a little too rare for her tastes, but she enjoyed it nonetheless. Both of us took home leftovers - portions were delightfully large. Dad got the filet topped with crab meat and asparagus - no leftovers. Sides are all a la carte - we got the lobster mashed potatoes (quite possibly the best mashed I've ever had), jumbo baked potato, and creamed spinach. The only negative of the meal was the creamed spinach - a touch too much nutmeg. For dessert we split the house-made jalapeno pineapple ice cream. It was a glorious sensory experience and certainly unique. A great end to the meal.

About 9 of us descended on this place. We had excellent service. The food was all top notch. The duck ravioli appetizer was simply outstanding. I had the barrel cut filet mignon - it was in the top 2 or 3 steaks i have ever had. To give you perspective i am a carnivore and order filet pretty much every chance i get. Perfectly cooked and almost melted like butter in your mouth. YUM! Most folks got some variation of steak so i cannot comment on the other options. Sides were delicious - green beans, lobster mashed potatoes, creamed spinach. I had a Beefsteak tomato salad with bleu cheese, red onions and just a touch of a balsamic dressing. It was superb. Overall the food was outstanding. I can see how some others might think the place does have some attitude as it markets itself as a destination and top notch resaurant in Louisville. The party i was with was very relaxed and didnt get any attitude from our servers they even got in on some of our joking around.

A very cool local hot spot. I had an amazing salad beautifully presented with apples -The Kentucky Bibb.I had the Lucy In The Sky sushi roll which was delicious along with their bread and truffle butter! Love the atmosphere and vintage chandeliers. Wonderful piano music was playing in the bar area. I had fast friendly service.

Almost everything about our experience was very good. The service was great and the staff very helpful in answering our questions. The decor was interesting (some may say over the top) and fun. the drinks were generous and the wine prices okay. The sides were good, and the bread was delicious and hot from the oven. The steak was a big disappointment, especially at the premium price they charged - it wasn't very hot when served and full of gristle and unnecessary fat. The waiter boasted it might be the best steak I ever had - it wasn't even the best steak I had that week.

I was in Lou, KY for a business trip and since I was staying very near by at the Marriott in Downtown, I thought of making a trip to this so-called-best-in-class restaurant known for its dry aged steak and superb ambiance. To start off honestly, I read the yelp reviewer and they all looked very promising but I always take reviews with a grain of salt because you never know who writes 'em...for all I know, it could be 10 profiles created by the same guy who runs the business. I looked up opentable and tried to book a table but no seats available for weeks on end. I was like, OK? This has to be a sick feeling because no way a restaurant in Lou should be booked for weeks on end....oh wait, not many in Lou to begin with so I see why people would flock here to spend money. I walked in wearing my normal business clothing (Slacks, Dress shirt sleeves rolled up, 5 o'clock shadow and oh ya...my loafers). I had to make my way up and go through a storm of chain smoker douche bag looking sales men and some fairly trashy people. I was amazed since the site mentioned ' business casual'. Anyways, the southern hostesses told me there are no seats available but please find a table at the bar. Fine, I did. Received my menu/request for drink. Nothing amazing when it comes to service. I ordered the salad w/ goat cheese and caramalized walnuts. Honestly, not an amazing salad but I liked the creativity and presentation. But I was not too impressed with the diced up apples...too much = hides the taste of goat cheese, which by the way was very ill in quantity (less). My entree was OK...not the best but OK. I was expecting a top notch service and even better food experience. Coming from Chicago, my expectations were hgih. Def not worth it if you are from out of town, I would recommend going to Jacky Fry's or something....

Food was wonderful. The bar area, where we ate, was a little loud. However, the band was wonderful, and the delicious food made up for the noise level.a definite must for anyone in the Louisville area.

The atmosphere was amazing. We had a group of 6 of us and we were taken care of to the 9's. (does that make sense?) The wine selection is fantastic. The menu is quite impressive and the service was excellent. My only complaint was that, after stating I was a vegetarian and need to know the vegetarian options, my appetizer came out with bacon on it.

In my opinion Jeff Ruby's is the best fine dining Steakhouse in the Louisville area. The steaks are the specialty here and they offer a great bone-in-filet. However, to save some money I always select the regular filet as I feel it tastes just as good. I have eaten here over 10 times and everything I have had has been very good. The service is second to none and the ambiance is very bright and energizing. It is great place to go with friends, to take your significant other, and offers a beautiful bar with a piano player for some casual drinks. Best in town!

Truthfully, this place is not perfect, but the margin for error for this place still falls within superior ranges. Unless you are loaded, I imagine this is a place for special occasions. The bar is more laid back and can be enjoyed more frequently. Service, decor, and atmosphere are fantastic. I've had one server twice, and he can be a little too enthusiastic, but otherwise knowledgeable, prompt, and accommodating. One time, a friend of mine ordered 1 cocktail shrimp instead of the shrimp cocktail (which are 3 huge tiger shrimp), and he complied without complaint. The only apps I have tried are the crab cake, shrimp cocktail, and the charcoal grilled oysters. All are delicious and top notch, but my vote goes to the oysters, which are also covered in bacon, garlic, and romano cheese. I've tried all the salads and the tomato soup, and they are all tasty and displayed well in their own way. The Freddie salad is my preference, with romaine lettuce, bacon, and buttermilk ranch dressing. The tomato soup even has little grilled cheese sandwich wedges for dipping. Side dishes rock! The macdaddy and cheese, french beans, asparagus, creamed spinach with goat cheese, lobster mashed potatoes...all worth trying. The steaks...can you go wrong here? They specialize in dry-aged steaks served on the bone. Well, the first time I came here I ordered the porterhouse med-rare. I was not too impressed with it. The steak near the bone was cooked to my liking, but a good portion of steak on the outside was cooked medium or even more. Next time, I went for the bone-off filet, and that was perfectly cooked with great texture and flavor. The cowboy steak, which is bone-on, was cooked perfectly when I ventured back to the bone-on side. The steaks have a seasoning that is blackened on to them, and some people (like my wife) may think it is a disservice to the steak. Definitely worth tasting for yourself! In terms of seafood, I've only had the alaskan king crab, and huge cocktail shrimp, but they do have lots of fish dishes and daily menu items. In conclusion, this is a top-notch place. If I am somehow dissatisfied with my food, I send it back since I paid so much for it. I actually get the feeling here that they appreciate the chance to get it right.

I have had the pleasure of visiting Jeff Ruby's twice in the last few months. I hope you see that I do not often write 5 star reviews. This is quite possibly my favorite restaurant in the country. Jeff Ruby's slogan is "culinary entertainment." This is the best way I could describe the experience. If you come hungry, you will leave happy. The decor is amazing. It looks as if the place is a swanky 20's joint with a modern twist. There is a beautiful aquarium that is immaculately kept. The service and waitstaff are excellent, and I am a harsh critic. You will likely have no issues. Period. The food is incredible. Steaks are amazing, along with the lobster mashed potatoes. If i had to find negatives, I would say the wine list is a tad overpriced. I do not mind paying the high prices during such an outstanding occasion. I do not need to say more. Go to Jeff Ruby's.

Disappointment is the way I describe Jeff Ruby's. I have had better service at a chain restaurant. The food is very over priced. For what we spent here for my wife's birthday, we could of spent at other restaurants in town and and entertained more people and had better service. My wife ordered the steak, and it was good, but not worth the money we spent on it. Most other restaurants can cook a steak almost as well. I had fish and it was over cooked. Louisville has lots of good restaurants, so try one of those.

Go for the Red Meat, stay for the People Entertainment! I attended this restaurant as a cure all to a bad week. Who doesn't get brought back to neutral after 24 oz of red meat and a bottle of red wine?! As the pictures from other users will show this place is not a romantic dinner for two, but a festive night at Liberachi's place. The restaurant is still very classy and had an amazing selection. I had the lobster mash potatoes, grill asparagus, and 24oz bone in rib-eye in a Cajun season and could barely finish. After splitting a bottle of red wine, I could not help but be in a better mood. This place is mostly booths that wrap around which I have always felt improve connecting with others at the table. Just looking around I felt important to be with so many people that enjoyed fine dining. Be on the look out though, after about 9 pm you start to see a lot of jeans, bottles of beer, and drunk high class dancing. The live music was a very nice end to the evening and very upbeat. Like I said this is not a quite dinner for two, but an expensive way to have a great time!

I do not think the evening could have been any better. Great food, wine, company, and service. My boyfriend and I went on a double date to Jeff Ruby's a few nights ago and went all out. I felt like I was walking into a glitzy showroom in Vegas while a band was playing behind the bar. I love when I go to a restaurant and the bread is even good to start. It came with a mushroom truffle butter that I loved so much I even asked our waiter to box the extra for me. We started with cocktails, I had a Old Fashion then switched to wine. We started out with the duck ravioli appetizer, I practically licked the plate clean. The mushroom sauce it is served with is to die for. I then had the Crab soup which had so much crab in it I was in love. I also liked the smokiness in the soup from the bacon. We all had steak for dinner. I had the strip with truffle butter, while my boyfriend had the bone-in strip with chili rub. Both were amazing in my opinion and would recommend either one. Then for sides for the table we had creamed spinach, loaded mashed potatoes, and 6 cheese macaroni and cheese. I think I actually liked the creamed spinach the best, I loved the nutmeg in it. We finished our meal off with creme brulee, and a chocolate peanut butter cake that was so decadent and rich I could only have one bite by the time we got to dessert. We have two dogs at home and whenever we are at a steakhouse we ask if the kitchen has some bones for our dogs. Usually we get some but our waiter was so nice he went above and beyond by bringing us 4 nice bones to bring home to our babies :) They were very happy when we got home. This is a great place to go for a special occasion or to celebrate.

Love this place! This is not your typical steakhouse. The decor reminds me of a 40-50s piano bar. We ordered a bunch of appetizers which were amazing and shared a steak. The steak was well seasoned. I for one LOVE a-1 sauce with my steak and I didnt even think twice about asking for it. The steak was cooked to perfection. If I ever come back to Louisville, I will def come back here.

Whoa Ho! I'm not a fan of steakhouses especially in Chicago. Sorry but a $75 steak is just, well, stupid. Jeff's top steak is $50 and WOW!!! I had the Cowboy and it was amazing. This bone in rib-eye was thick and tender with just the right amount of fat left on. I couldn't come close to finishing it (16 oz. with the bone) partly because Ruby's menu had too many awesome choices to pass up. First the wine list - I was the only win-er so stopped at the first page where the wines by the glass are listed. Ruby's offer a glass - starting at $8 - a half decanter or a bottle. I ordered a Malbec half at $18 and had a nice pour, sufficient to last the evening. I'm not a terribly sophisticated oenophile but am quite sure the more sophisticated pallet will find excellent selections. Next, the atmosphere. We were assaulted as we entered Ruby's with LOUD music and almost left. Turns out there is live LOUD music in the bar but when you head to the restaurant, it is pleasant background entertainment. We had a table for four that was actually a large, long booth. Mom and I sat side by side which was kind of an odd seating arrangement for us, It was wonderful! We had a full view of the dining room. The decor is sort of eclectic - a mix of movie star photos and '20s murals and posters in bright colors. Its odd but it works. Our wall booth was a terrific viewing point for people watching. And watch we did! The crowd was mixed. From business suits to well dressed ladies groups to romantic couples, the suited restaurant manager and assistant and the very busy waiters - we loved the people watching. Ladies, if you head to the ladies room, be prepared for the closest waiter to offer you his arm and escort you to the door. Sadly, I didn't need to visit so, sigh, no cute waiter escort. I loved the convenient coat racks placed around the room thus skipping the need to check my coat, wait for a ticket, wait for my coat and tip. Silly complaint when spending $200 plus on diner but a pet peeve. If you are not interested in an appetizer when you sit down, you will be a convert after watching the loaded seafood trays delivered around the room. Letting your server put together a tray could be pricey but oh my! I sated my desire with the 3-shrimp cocktail. It was served on a glass platter with a short martini glass filled with ice. The shrimp (to quote a Chicago Moo & Oink commercial) were as big as yo' fist! REALLY! I asked for extra lemon and alternated between the excellent cocktail sauce and lemon juice. Mom had the crab bisque and is still talking about it. There were gigantic pieces of crab in the smokey soup and, as is her usual schtick, she tried very hard to analyze the ingredients. It was a large portion. I couldn't resist the Kentucky Bibb Bleu. The salad comes in a cucumber 'bowl' and is topped with shredded apple. The balsamic dressing on spring greens is just perfect. The bread was also perfect. Crisp, chewy crust with a fluffy, tender inside. The butter is served in a large square - half plain and half truffles something I can't remember. There is an adorable little round paper with the JR logo topping it. Mom had the lamb chops. They came with a bordelaise sauce and she could not resist picking up the tiny bones and sucking them clean. We shared a large side of creamed spinach - very, very good! Okay, okay - I know we should have stopped there but creme brulee is my undoing and I truly have never had better. They did not screw with it and it was nicely topped with fresh fruit. Too bad it was too late to add coffee because it would be, as all else was, perfect. Now, the service. OMG. Our adorable server was Austin. Austin spent the perfect amount of time with us. He was a bit late in greeting us but another server, maybe Brian?, stopped by to say hello. After The Adorable Austin came over, he would stop between taking our order, pouring my wine, serving courses and just being all around charming to chat. It wasn't cloying or overbearing. We felt valued and welcome. Jeff Ruby has come up with a very clever idea - the 'doggie bags' are actual cloth bags like grocery stores encourage you to buy and bring back. For less than a buck, Ruby advertises all over the Midwest with his large bags. Our bill came to $168 and we left a $40 tip. $208 wasn't just the dinner bill. It paid for an unforgettable evening.

This place gets a solid 4 stars. When I travel for work, I inevitably go to several steak houses because this is where all sales reps like to plan dinners. When I heard we were going to a steak house in Louisville, I rolled my eyes and thought, oh great, another steak house. However Jeff Ruby's exceeded my expectations. They have a lively decor and vibe (unlike most steak houses where it's dark and bland) and the staff were fantastic. But the best thing about it was the food. I DID have the filet and it was delicious! Everything we had there was top notch (although I though the mashed potatoes were too salty). I also was able to try bourbon for the first time (apparently Lousiville is THE place to have bourbon) and I really enjoyed what the staff gave me. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Louisville. It's on the pricy side but if you're going to spend money for steak, this is the place to go!

After hearing a lot from the local louisville folks, I decided to check out this place. First Impression: Great ambeiance and hot waitresses. Service: Decent as I was sitting at the bar. I don't expect great service there. Food: I had a Dry aged cowboy steak. Good flavor, nicely cooked but had too much fat. Found some alien thing in my side of mushrooms and onions. When i brought this to their notice, the manager spoke to me and said sorry and was willing to buy me drinks. The wierd part was I was trying to maintain a low profile about this but the bartender took the dish in her hand and was calling the manager. Soon, it was apparent that there was something wrong with my food and people sitting next to me started asking me about it. What a douche ! There was a piano player that night and he was pretty good, played some nice tunes. Overall OK experience, just feel the place is a little pricey. But I guess since it has a huge reputation in Lousiville area, People don't mind paying that much.

Okay - I am partial to this place for two reasons: 1) we dined here the night we got engaged (August 30th 2008) 2) the owner kicked O.J. out and told him "we won't serve you here" - yeah! now that is my kinda guy! (May 2007) So on to our meal. We were greeted by valet - which is always nice. We sat at the piano bar and enjoyed our requisite Manhattens. The music was loud and good and the drinks were icy. The vibe was good - a mix of older folks (40s and 50s +) with a younger crowd too (30s) it is a bit pricey for the 20 somethings to tolerate. (think Ruth's Chris) You will easily drop $200 for two on bar tab, apps, bottle of wine, dinner with sides and coffee with dessert (tax and tip). However, I could see going here with a girlfriend and nibbling on apps and drinks for about $30 a person and feeling satisfied. Anyway - we had a nice little cozy table and our waiter was lovely. We enjoyed a well priced bottle of Provenance Cab. The food was exquisitely cooked grass fed prime grade beef. I love a good steak. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our new engagement! Although we live in California, my Fiance is from Louisville. We visit annually. I can't wait to go back to celebrate our anniversaries for many years to come.

The music is the reason to go to Jeff Ruby's. Sure the steaks are good and the raw bar, but the reason to go back - most weekends if you can, is for the live music. We specially go to hear Robbie Bartlett sing!! Great entertainer in a great location. We love the art deco bar area. After a great dinner at Rivue or another downtown restaurant, spending the evening listening to Robbie sing at Jeff Ruby's is the best ending to a special night out!!

It was my husband's birthday, and I was eager to find him something tasty in the Louisville area. Since we've just moved here I was on the search for steak! I kept checking opentable.com for reservations and finally got one. We've been to the others like Morton's and Ruth Chris so we were hoping for a real treat. When we arrived the decor is amazing and has such a nice vibe and feel it reminds me of a 1940's scene. Gotta adore the ruby décor, hints the name. We first started off with a bottle of wine and let me say that there wine list is forever long! Lots of choices to pick from, I'm sure you will enjoy if you're a wino like us. We decided to go all out, we started with the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake and OMG can we say YUM! I had the Iceberg Lettuce Wedge salad with bleu cheese dressing and hubby had the Freddie salad with the buttermilk ranch. I mean salad is salad but that bleu cheese dressing was delicious and let me just say if you love bacon then the Freddie salad is for you, my husband just absolute loved it. Upon ordering for dinner we both had Filet Mignons and our sides to share we ordered the Jumbo Baked Potato and Macaroni & Cheese which has 6 Imported Cheeses. Can we say WOW?! Everything was amazing and we've been back several times. Since we've been back, we also tried the Herb Grilled Oysters and it has BACON! I've noticed Kentucky just seems to love bacon out here. Nice place for a fancy night out. :-)

Yeah, not so much. Stuffy crowd, BS entrance, "too uppity" as my Louisville local barmate suggested. Maybe just not my scene, so govern accordingly. If you like $70 burned steaks & a crew of tools, it's all you.

Celebrating a special event with family. Very disappointed!!! waited over 40 minutes for entrees. When we asked our about our dinners she looked at us like we were from Mars. Management never approached table to appologize for the delay. Server never came back to check on us after entrees were finally delivered. Never asked if we wanted more wine with dinner. Would not reccomend. Mortons is MUCH better. Remember Service is part of paying the high prices.

I love an expensive steakhouse. The aged beef is marvellous. The service is impeccable. The wine list is extensive. The atmosphere is heavenly. And then there is the spinach. Never has a vegetable reached such a dizzing high. An amazing dish that was only surpassed by ethereal truffled butter that came with the bread. A great expensive steakhouse.

This place is fabulous. From their raw bar appetizer option to their steaks. The service is top notch as well. They make sure your table is spotless throughout the night and your drink glass is always full. Oh, and they're just nice people in general. I had a king crab leg and two jump shrimp for an appetizer. The crab leg had the most meat I've ever seen and I currently live in Maryland, so that's a big deal. Their seafood comes directly from Alaska, delivered by UPS (headquartered in Louisville). The filet was top notch. Easy to cut and cooked to perfection. Their sides are family style which is preferable so you can try many different ones. Did I mention how good the butter is? It comes in a square with half being normal butter and the other half being a truffle butter mixed with chocolate. Words cannot explain how delicious that was. Overall it was well worth the cost! Will be coming back.

High end steak house with a twist. Typical dry-aged meats with a la carte sides. It's not cheap, but you go into a restaurant like this knowing that. A great venue for a special occasion. The place was mobbed on a holiday weekend, but I was able to get a seat at the bar. The twist I'm talking about is the sushi. I was able to build my own sampler platter of ahi and salmon sashimi, a few specialty West coast oysters, and a couple of tiger prawns. The fish was fresh, and the salmon ate like butter. Oysters were slurped up, and the shrimp resembled mini lobsters. I will be back!

What can I say about Jeff Ruby's? The place is expensive, pretentious, and the décor is garish. But the service is excellent and the food is wonderful. It's kind of like spending the money to get a Lexus when you could save a lot and get nearly the same car by buying a Toyota. If you decide to spend the money go for the dry aged steak. My wife had the fillet and I had the rib eye. Both were like butter

Loved it! One of the best places overall to go. The service was fantastic, the food was amazing, and the decor is great! Had the shrimp cocktail, filet and brussel sprouts! All were phenomenal! Expect to pay about $150 pp, which includes couple glasses of wine and martini. The staff is all good looking and on top of their game though! Attentive and well versed on the menu!

Easily the best steak in Louisville. There is no question! Their their king crab chowder soup (which I haven't seen in a while) is also probably the best soup I've ever had. Never disappoints and the staff is very friendly and knowledgable.

Wow. We had been to another Jeff Ruby location (Belterra casino, now closed) and we decided to head to Louisville to visit this one. The entrance is simple and cool. It reminded me a lot of being back in NY. Not something we see a lot of in Indy these days. Just a neat feature. We were seated immediately for our reservation. The bar was crowded, full of people having a drink before a country concert. There were many cowboys, hats included, despite their written "no hats or shorts" policy. It was also very loud until the crowd died down at concert time, but it added a good vibe. Thankfully, it was toned down to a normal restaurant buzz after a while. Our server, Jeff, was incredible. He was attentive and cool, but really knew the menu and was very helpful. We tried a couple of sushi rolls, one of which was Jeff's recommendation. They were both delicious. I had to have their wedge salad, despite having a huge amount of food ahead of me, because it is THE BEST WEDGE SALAD in the entire world. Someone at your table might ask you to split one, but this is ridiculous because you need all that glorious blue cheese to yourself. Next are the entrees, of which we have a serious addiction to Jeff Ruby's Jewel. It's actually something that we normally wouldn't go for because it is heavily spiced. The awesome thing is that Jeff Ruby dry ages the beef in house and the beefiness holds up to the chili rub on the Jewel. Their steaks are perfectly cooked every time, too, and I mean PERFECTLY. French fries are hand cut and perfect. Roasted mushrooms are sent from little mushroom heaven. Who could have room for dessert after this? This fatty, that's who! Mr. Jen F had the cheesecake and I had the creme brulee with fresh berries and homemade whipped cream. Perfection. They had to roll us out. It's not cheap, but it's worth every cent and ask for Jeff. He'll make your experience.

I came here for lunch and was very impressed! The place itself is beautiful and the menu has tons of options (on the more expensive side) so it was quite difficult to choose! Service was top notch, one of the best in Louisville! My favorite without a doubt was the Cheesecake, delicious! Will return.

Best steak in Louisville and I look forward to going every year. Jeff Ruby is the closest thing I have to an awesome steak to where I live, and this place is exactly what you expect when you want a steakhouse experience. I don't know what else to say here; well trained staff, good pacing, amazing food and an experience you don't expect outside of major culinary hubs. Cincinnati has one and that branding has been extended to Louisville thanks to Jeff Ruby. Soooooo close to being in Lexington, too. That'll be nice.

A tad insane. But, in a good way. Steak! Seafood! Insane wine list! Take your clients here. Take your parents here. Take your love interest here. The decor is a tad bright, loud, and garish... but kind of works. You're ordering a steak with foie gras on the top already. Decent sushi options if you want that. Good shellfish/raw bar as well.

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would! I don't know where to begin of how amazing this restaurant is.. I have never experienced beyond five star customer service- and I live in LA! One example is, I was wearing a black cocktail dress. The table napkins were white, so the waiter went and brought a black one for me. The food was scrumptious! I got the filet mignon, cooked to perfection! Sushi bar is outstanding as well. Live music- is there anything better? No surprise that every inch of this place is amazing. When I come back to visit Kentucky, you can definitely find me at Jeff Rubys!

THE best around!!! It's been said that you get what you pay for - believe me, you WILL pay for this but you also received the BEST meal, BEST service & BEST atmosphere around. We went to celebrate my husbands birthday & could not have picked a better location to do this. The server, Daniel, explained everything perfectly. He would fill our wine goblets when needed & was attentive without being intrusive. The one & only negative was when we arrived the hostess must have been training someone because we stood there (without being acknowledged) for almost a minute. When she did acknowledge us she said "hi" & went back to showing the trainee what to do. Not a good first impression. But Daniel made up for it. Pricey!!!

I am not sure if there is a more overrated restaurant in Louisville. The Precinct in Cincy is so, so good; and Jeff Ruby's is so, so unbalanced. A full meal goes down the farther you get into it. Appetizers - great, Salads - good, Steaks - average (burnt on the outside, raw on the inside and no where near the $$$$), desserts forgettable. Get 50% more of a meal for 2/3 the cost at Mortons. Ruth's Chris does it so much better for the same price. Z's is a notch better. Well, at least they have Eddie Merlot's beat.

  • JC M.

This place is an overrated tourist trap. In a recent visit to Louisville, my party took some tours. Almost all of them recommended Jeff Ruby's. So we tried it. The wait staff is great and on point. The food is overpriced disappointment. I hate to say it, but Red Lobster has better lobster tails for 1/3 the price. The sushi had nice fancy names, but was to over dressed. For me sushi is simple 3-4 ingredients/flavors not 10 or so. Remember to ask it seemed almost every dish has jalapenos in it, if you don't like them that is disappointing. Meals are just steak/lobster or such, sides like potatoes or green beans are an additional $7+ dollars, each. Served "family" style, so only order sides if you want to feed 4 people, they are big. So figure a steak, green beans and potatoes is around $40+$8+$8, you don't even get a soup or salad. For 4 people and a $350 bill, not worth it.

A really solid steak place. The decor is a bit off putting but the bar tender and waitress made up for it. I guess it is quite the spot within Louisville as the wall is loaded with photos of autographs of athletes, actors, politicians, etc. I am trying to remember what I had at the restaurant. I believe I started out with some sort of seafood bisque (crab or lobster), skipped a salad and went for a medium-rare filet. We had several accompaniments that were served family style and were incredible. This place is going to cost you but it would be a great anniversary restaurant to take a loved one or celebrate something professionally.

Amazing food and service. Loved the live Music at the bar. Try the speciality drinks at the bar while you wait for your table. Filet and cowboy steaks were so good and cooled perfectly!

Generally speaking, this is not one of the restaurants that I would LOVE! Even the simple menu items are done exceptionally well! The Bibb Salad was unbelievable! So good that felt like licking the plate, seriously! The sides were outstanding (I am a broccoli connoisseur) and the service was even better than the food! OUTSTANDING!

Top notch service and excellent quality food. Can't go wrong with any cut of steak- noteworthy though is that steaks have a signature char-may not be for everyone. Have also had a variety of their seafood offerings, namely scallops and salmon- both exceptional. Crab bisque is an incredible first course. Recommend Mac and cheese and brussel sprouts as shared sides. If you must skip something, skip dessert. Offerings are traditional and deliver as so, nothing worth writing home about.

How can you not give this place 5 stars? I have lived/been all over the US and there is no better steakhouse than Jeff Ruby's, you simply cannot find it. Not in New York, not in Miami, not in LA where I currently live, you just can't compare. The atmosphere is just awesome, the servers are super friendly, and the food is incredible. I started going here 8 years ago or so. I always order the Colinsworth steak, Mac and Cheese, and the Asparagus for some veggies. Oh yeah! The Freddie salad too! It's a must have. If I was on a deserted island and could only eat from one restaurant for the rest of my life, it would be hands down Jeff Ruby's. Mr. Ruby himself is an awesome guy as well. Tweet him on twitter, he will probably respond to you and is always kind. I just can't say enough about how great this place is.

5 stars all around - beautiful restaurant, great service, an amazing cover band (started around 9pm on Saturday), and outstanding food. The Steak Collinsworth is a favorite - but don't think you could really go wrong here.

The best crab cake, petite filet, Brussel sprouts and macaroni and cheese I have ever tasted. My steak cut like butter and the spice rub was incredibly flavorful. The service was on the spot. We never waited for anything. The atmosphere is unique and a bit loud with the house band but that's part of the experience. Make a reservation.

Perfection. From the mixed drinks and the food to the service and the live music, this place was dynamite. I had the chicken, while my boyfriend had steak topped with lobster. We also ordered the mac and cheese and asparagus as sides. The mac and cheese was out of this world. There is a reason why this place was still crazy busy at 10:30 p.m. when we were leaving... We were in town for the PGA Tournament, and it was my boyfriend's 30th birthday that day, and they certainly went out of their way to help celebrate. I wish there was one in Chicago! If we're back in the area, we will definitely hit it up again.

I've eaten at Ruth's Chris steakhouse many times. However, Jeff Ruby's petite filet with truffle butter is even better! The best steak I've ever had! The mushrooms are fantastic too!

Very upscale restaurant...and SO accommodating! Took us without a reservation. Fully booked upon arrival, but we lucked out with a cancellation and got a table. We are in town as my dad underwent surgery at UofL for pancreatic cancer, and they saw he was having a hard time getting around. Just very thoughtful of the staff to notice & accommodate us, despite the high rollers in the building for the Derby and the rush. Service was phenomenal/attentive and food is AMAZING! Seafood Bar is no joke (ie. Alaskan King Crab Legs, East Oysters, and Jumbo Shrimp)! Oh, and the Moscato, Secco 'Italian Bubbles' champagne to end the lovely dinner...just perfect!!

I don't know if waiting 45 minutes for the Rainbow Parade to tortuously end had anything to do with our appetite last night, but I would suggest the service & steaks at JRUBY's was some of the best we've ever experienced - and that includes fine dining from locations far more expensive & populated. Starting with a Poet's Leap Riesling, oysters raw & Rockefeller, we were knocking on the door of 7th Heaven. The super seared, rare, bone-in filet & sirloin with the Clos Apalta blew away the big house chains. Delicious. Unforgettable. Made me want to join the parade as a beefcake.... Kudos to John & Katie our servers, and Ms. Robbie Bartlett was a smokin' hot, bluesy singer at the bar. Top notch. Certainly world class folks....

The manager read my bad review and apologized and asked us to let him know if we returned. We reserved a table for a Friday night in mid-September and had a much better experience. This time the cowboy ribeyes were perfectly cooked with tons of flavor, and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Chris, the sommelier, was our waiter and he was absolutely outstanding.

Seared Fois Gas was impeccable so I had 2 orders. The giant shrimp from Vietnam are incredible. The wine list is strong. The Ruby Roll (sushi roll) was very good. The creme brule......knock out good! Tomorrow night, I'll order steak. Dry aged. Yummy!!!!!

Stellar! We met at this establishment for a gathering of old friends for the National Auctioneers Association Conference and show. The appetizers were outstanding. The sushi magnificent. The drinks poured perfectly. The fellowship and environment memorable. My only small discontent was with the steaks. Although very good, I've had the same or better quality with a tad cheaper pricing. The meat was good, and cooked accurately, it's just I've had better. After a $1,500 bill.... What's a few drinks among friends?!

This was an incredible dining experience. I generally would never dine at such an upscale environment justifying my decision with the erroneous assumption of how much better can it be than your typical steakhouse. (Answer: Quite a bit) Unfortunately or more accurately fortunately I was forced to dine there last night. I qualified for the dinner through a work promotion and they declined my desire for cash instead. I am glad they did as a blue collar type guy this was a memorable experience. The steak had some incredible flavor and the garlic butter just topped it off with incredible yet distinct taste. The sides were exquisite my particular favorite being the creamed spinach. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Macaroni and Cheese. Everyone said you have to try the mac and cheese and I was like seriously? It is very good. I was sticker shocked at the side prices but they are very reasonable when you learn that they are @4 servings and are meant to be shared. By the end of dinner I was totally stuffed but since work was buying and I don't drink I got myself a slice of cheese cake. It was much more whipped then I have ever tried before. Very good. I never thought before my visit that I would consider a repeat visit to this establishment but I probably will.Even on my own dime.

Not impressed. Went to dinner tonight (Thursday) for the first time. We read the great reviews so thought we would check it out while in town. The service was touch and go from the beginning; our waiter was extremely hurried, would take a drink order and return 30 mins later....seriously and it was just the two of us. The food was good but not the best steak; the sides were mediocre and the presentation non-existent. The decor is a mix of early rat-pack crosses Vegas at a steak joint. Very odd and yet doesn't seem to work. My vote is to pass on this spot.

I come to Louisville a couple times a year to visit family. We have had many an exquisite meal at Jeff Ruby's. It is a little rough on the wallet, but you will have an incredible meal. However, of late, we love coming to Jeff Ruby's for Robbie Bartlett, who sings live in the bar. Check her website for her schedule. I love coming in on a Saturday night when I am in town, throwing back some bourbon and listening to Robbie's soulful voice. It is an incredible live music experience every time (and free admission!). Ruby's is a really sweet place for a fine steak and seafood, and even better to relax afterwards for the music. That and I love the infamous story about Jeff Ruby kicking O.J. Simpson out of his restaurant at Derby time many years back. Bravo, sir!

Amazing food and even better service. We split the Ruby Roll (sushi roll topped w/ribeye), then shared the filet, ribeye, and side of mushrooms & asparagus. Wow! Quite the indulgence but you won't regret the decision to eat at Jeff Ruby's.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. One of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever dined in. Even the food is beautiful!! Service was outstanding beginning with the valet. The good service really set the tone for our evening. Our meal was so delicious. I had the filet topped with crab. The desserts are to die for! I live about five hours away. I'm going to make a special trip back!

Fillet and asparagus = Fantastico! I loved my fillet. I love steak. I do not eat meat very often any more so this was a big left turn for me and TOTALLY WORTH IT! Very flavorful and TENDER! I really want to take my husband and T-Rex children back here for dinner sometime soon. Sorry that their restaurant was so messed up from the horrible weather but they made the most of it! They put us in a private dining area and continued with the wonderful service and yummy food. Also, the Crème Brulee was FABULOUS!!!!! This is my favorite desert and I was so pleased to have it in its native form (as opposed to mucking it up with alternate flavors as so many places do these days). Definitely would return!

Well, I was very excited to go here. Unfortunately it was so crowded you could barely move. It was also horribly loud. My husband and I were seated where it actually felt like we were on a platform and in a semi circular booth. Very strange and uncomfortable, felt like we were on display. Now as for the food, it was actually really good. Not a thing wrong with it. However since the atmosphere was so awkward and loud, the food really couldn't be enjoyed. All we wanted to do was get out. So for that experience and price, it was awful. If we were in a more comfortable atmosphere, the stars could have easily been 4. We won't be back.

WOW!!! This place is great. I'm from Washington DC visiting for a conference. Stopped in here based on a recommendation from a friend. The staff is excellent! I did not like my beer (too malty) and the server took it back without a problem (22oz.) the waiter knew everything about the menu and more and was extremely friendly! One of the crab legs looked small and without saying anything the waiter brought us another one! The steaks were excellent! The macaroni wS excellent! The wok green beans were excellent! No draft beers however. Waitresses are beautiful and so is the atmosphere. Quite pricey but so delicious. If you don't come here you are certainly missing out!

I was anxiously looking forward to lamb.....expecting it to melt like butter but I had to use a steak knife to cut!!! So disappointed. One steak was sent back twice. We are not an overly demanding group but we agreed our waiter was somewhat "curt". The steaks were good but not "golden". The quality did not measure up to bill!

I had the ny strip for $44 and my wife had the filet for $42. My ny strip was 14 oz and amazing. We also shared the Mac and cheese mashed potatoes and asparagus. Great meal....actually best I've ever had.

This place is outstanding! My husband took me there for the first time as a birthday surprise and I LOVED it! The Al Capone roll was awesome..just as good as a Japanese restaurant. We each got a filet and the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. ALL divine!! Get the garlic butter and mushrooms, just yum. And their house made portobello garlic butter for the bread is great. All if this combine with their out of this world service, they are polite, courteous, fast and you feel like their there to cater your every need. We WILL go back!

I went here on a first date and we had an absolutely amazing meal, service and overall experience. When we walked in the hostesses were nice and asked us if we'd like to wait at the bar until our table was ready. We had to wait about 20 minutes even though we were right on time for our reservation. No biggie since they had this great band playing and we were able to grab a cocktail. The staff was friendly, helpful and professional (although you should not chew gum while waiting on tables). The food was delicious. Foie Gras was some of the best I've ever had. Oysters were super fresh. Steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection as well. The sides were great and the truffle butter for the bread...mmmmm! If I am ever back in Louisville I will be sure to visit again!

What a great steakhouse in downtown Louisville. Went in there on a Friday night and were fortunate to get a large booth in the back. This gave us a great view of the place. Live music as soon as you enter the door, the performer was good. This place has a huge wine list. I order the New York Strip, literally one of the best I have ever had! Didn't have a chance to try desert, the one I had wanted was already sold out, it was late in the evening. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area.

I was traveling for work and, and as always, looked for a good steakhouse. We found a few options and decided to go with Jeff Ruby's. I am a huge fan of the Ribeye and saw a cowboy ribeye on the menu. I decided to go with the cowboy Ribeye. Their menu listed temperature as usual, however their medium said it was a hot red center, with pink. I asked the waiter, as I don't want a steak over done, I prefer mine at med-rare. I know with a bone in steak, near the bone will be less done. So the waiter told me that the medium would be what I was looking for. I ordered it medium along with a side of mashed potatoes. The steak came and looked awesome! I cut into it and it looked more like a medium, which is normally pink throughout, and was med-well towards the edge of the steak. When I was asked how it was cooked, I said it was good, but that was before I got to the edge of the steak. The seasoning was very weak and the flavor was average. After fininshing my steak, I told the waiter I should have went with my gut and ordered med - rare. The mashed potatoes were good. Seeing the price of steak and the reviews, I had hoped for a phenomenal steak. What I got was an average steak. It was definitely not in my top 5 steaks, and probably not even in my top 10. I have had just as good steaks or better at some of the chain restaurants for a 1/4 of the price. So i would say it was not worth the money. When in Town again I will try other steak places before going back here. Good ambiance and good service, just not what I had hoped for with my steak.

I was in town for a business meeting and needed a spot for a business dinner with 6 clients and colleagues. Jeff Ruby's was recommended on Yelp for steak. It exceeded my expectations and was a big bit with the client. We were lucky enough to have our own room in the back which would be preferred if you intended to have much of a business conversation. Our server was excellent and the steak was one of the best I have ever had. Highly recommend.

There is dinner at a steakhouse, and then a night out at Jeff Ruby's. Louisville has a plethora of great places to enjoy a good ribeye, but if you want a little something called pizzaz, Jeff Ruby's is your place. The first thing that caught my attention here is the ambience. It's like being inside a jukebox for grownups, complete with a buzzing bar and the tinkle of laughter spiked with your favorite libations. At most restaurants I typically only go to a bar while waiting for a table, but this is a place where I could see myself making a night out only of hanging out at the watering hole. I was lucky enough to attend a private event here, so I got to eat in one of the private dining rooms. It gets noisy here if you're out in the main dining room, but it just adds to the festive atmosphere of the restaurant. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Appetizers for our group were crab cakes (crispy exterior with flaky crab interior), crab corn truffles (sweet and fluffy), duck ravioli (I devoured this, along with the sauteed mushrooms it was served with) and a Jeff Ruby roll (3/5 stars, just because I like surf and turf, but not together in a sushi roll). After appetizers, I was stuffed. But that was just the beginning. My entree was a Queen Filet Mignon. Our server explained about the drying method the restaurant uses to help ensure a rich steakhouse flavor on every cut they serve. I love steak, and the one I got did not disappoint. It's tough to choose a favorite steakhouse in Louisville based solely on flavor since they're all so good, but this place is difficult to beat. I turned down dessert - and do as I say, not as I do on this one. There is a molten chocolate cake that I had a bite of and wished I had ordered one for myself. Get this if you go to the restaurant, even if you're not a chocolate fan (I'm not and I loved this thing). It's not just dinner - it's a night out at Jeff Ruby's. Treat yourself sometime to discover what that difference is!

Great meal and wonderful atmosphere. Cowbow ribeye was cooked to perfection and sides were nice. Paino bar in the cocktail area was a nice touch. Great night Monday before Derby!

My brother and I ate here a while back when in town. We didn't have a reservation (highly recommended), but went for an early dinner. Fortunately, even though it was happy hour, they found us a seat at the back of the bar near the aquarium that separates the bar from the main dining room. There is a bandstand on top of the bar for live music, jazz quartet, etc., so we were entertained. Service was extremely busy taking care of the happy hour crowd, but we quickly were served. They dry age their steaks and both of us thoroughly enjoyed the beef. Side dishes and salads were also top notch, it was all delicious and a very enjoyable meal. Highly recommended if you want a premium steak.
