So on a local Instagram page "EatLoveLouisville" (you should check them out if you haven't already) I saw a post of a fried donut croissant topped with maple glaze and bacon...it was this that brought me in here. However I came with my daughter after school so they were no longer serving breakfast. The menu is wonderful, a lot of different selections to chose from for any time of day. We actually shared a Beet and Goat Cheese salad with a vinaigrette dressing for $11 which was so wonderful and tried the Crepe Maricheire (pictured) for $13. I also ordered a French press coffee (dark if you please) and it was absolutely amazing! The service was impeccable! Pleasant, timely, and perfection! So happy I found this local spot!

Went a second time and the service was leaps and bounds better!! The staff really makes all the difference!! I ordered the same thing since my gluten allergy limits what I can eat at this place. The eggs were done over medium this time (yay!), the bacon was cooked just right and the potatoes were delicious!! I brought a friend and we split a couple of gluten free desserts. Words cannot describe how AMAZING these treats were!! I will add photos so you all can see how cute they are too! They taste as great as they look!

As good as the Breakfast and French press coffee was I have to come back and try their extensive lunch menu. Great pricing for the quality of food you get, very fresh. Service was excellent , atmosphere was inviting.

I have to give this place a 4 star bc the service was not the greatest. Nothing personal, but I felt like I had upset the staff by getting dinner with my family 1 hour before they closed. I will definitely be back though because the food was amazing. There were so many options on the menu and hard to decide because everything sounded good. My husband said that their white chicken chili is some of the best he has ever had. I loved their Mac n cheese and meatball sandwich was awesome. I will definitely be back and would love to try everything on the menu one day.

Went to late lunch with some friends. We were immediately sat & greeted with a friendly young woman. I had never been before so I asked the waitress what she recommended. She responded with several answers while first askin, "are u specifically hungry for anythin n particular?" I ordered the Cobb salad w the chicken warmed w/o blue cheese. It was delicious. The ranch dressing was the best I have ever had!!

Unlike many Yelpers, I experienced this place at night. There was a baby shower going on in one corner, an older ladies birthday party on the chairs outside, so that may give you a sense of this place. The servers were very kind and helpful. You order at the counter, get your own water, seat yourself, etc, and the food is brought out. Our paninis and wraps and such were great (the baked mac n cheese was the only not-so-good part of the meal), and each in our party enjoyed their french press coffees. None tried the desserts, but they looked great. A nice spot!

Wonderful food and atmosphere !!! Staff very friendly and quiche Lorraine so flaky and tender paired with salad lightly moistened with shallot vinaigrette !! Mac and cheese was awesome ..Dessert was just as delicious

Wow-major disappointment--service was inattentive. I ordered the Poutine with pulled pork on the side. The pork was dry, tasteless -not edible! This was the second bad experience here in a row . Won't be back!!!

Really appreciate a bistro that serves breakfast lunch and dinner all day long, all five of us were happy with our choices.

Went for lunch before my flight out and after a weekend of over-doing it in Louisville, I thought a nice salad would do. So, I opted for the Cobb and a side of beets. The Cobb was HUGE with an ample amount of very savory and tender chicken, a mound of crispy bacon, a mound of bleu cheese, an egg, etc. It was more than I could eat. Beets were good, but nothing spectacular. The lunch menu here spans a variety of choices enough to suit anyone's craving. Oh yeah, and there's chocolate. Lots of chocolate.

Very disappointed by the lack of service and my cold and unpalatable crème brûlée. I may as well have eaten pudding. Definitely not worth $7.58.

Best cobb salad in the Ville. The shallot vinaigrette was delicious without being overpowering. It was full of all the toppings that make a Cobb salad delicious. My daughter had the charcuterie platter and it was also delicious and had great variety, the pâté was spicy. The fig preserve was sweet and rich. It came with plenty of fresh baguette.my husband had the French dip and it was also delicious. Finished the meal with robust French pressed coffee and macaroons. The bourbon and Fleur de sal macaroon was specially flavorful. On a previous visit the quiche Lorraine and French onion soup were authentically full of flavor. Definitely a new favorite!

This review is based mainly on the cafe menu items. I've had a variety of their chocolate and it has all tasted exceptional. I cannot say the same about their croissants however, especially when you compare them to Blue Dog Bakery. I ordered the Croque Madame (panini type of sandwich filled with ham and cheese and topped with a béchamel sauce and fried egg) with green beans amandine and my boyfriend ordered the open faced Italian baguette. I was highly disappointed in my sandwich. There was practically no béchamel and the ham was all centered in the middle of the sandwich. The ham was really the only thing that saved me from not eating it because it actually had a good smoky flavor. I did feel like I was just eating a hot ham sandwich with cheese. My boyfriend said it was just okay. We both agreed we probably would not come back unless it was for something sweet.

Cute brunch/sandwich restaurant in the Westport village. They have gourmet chocolates and gelato. There was a lot of variety in the menu. And the staff was friendly. The food is on the pricier side for what you get. The chicken crepe is on the heavier side, I wish I got the spinach and artichoke one instead. The duck fries were not special. They were crunchy and good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The potato leak soup is tasty and it had a good consistency. 3.5 because I was expecting a lot more.

Ghyslain is a great place to eat if u like dressy/casual sit down restaurants. The restaurant has a French theme with great foods to choose from. I personally get their grilled chicken which is seasoned very well. I also like the vegetable foccacia which has great flavor in the roasted veggies. Also for your kids they do have food for them as well. The only not so good part about this place is how long u have to wait for your check or food. So if u are in a hurry don't come here. Overall this is a good place to eat so come to this restaurant if ur not in a hurry.

Ghyslain at Westport Village just switched from fast casual to full service and it seems to be having a bumpy transition. At approximately 4 pm on Sunday the restaurant was completely empty. Still, I waited for an uncomfortably long time in front of the sign that said "Please wait to be seated" before the host actually approached and seated me. I ordered a sandwich and the highly talked about duck fat fries. I was disappointed. The fries were hard and tasted nothing like duck. I mentioned this to the server and she agreed that their fries tasted like regular fries. She offered a replacement side. I tried the mac and cheese and it was better. Not spectacular, but better. My sandwich, an Italian baguette was flavorful and fresh. It saved the meal. I also ordered a Diet Coke and was brought a 12 oz can and a glass of ice with no refills for $2.50. That may have been fine in a fast casual setup but full service implies refills on basic fountain drinks. For now I'm not sold on Ghyslain's new full service concept. Hopefully the downtown location sticks with the fast casual setup.

I had a great lunch there today, my first time. Awesome Hazelnut Latte to start. Then I had the French Dip and the Potato Leek Soup. Really really good! Loved it! Nice place, clean, and really good service! I'll be back for sure!

I've been to ghyslain on market (it's been two years). I'm not from Louisville, and I remembered being impressed the last time so this time driving through, I told my friends about ghyslain and we went to the Westport village location for dinner and dessert. We immediately checked out the dessert display. I picked the pumpkin cheesecake, and my friends had the apple cinnamon cheesecake and the lemon tart. We ordered them with our dinner at the cashier counter and went to sit down at a table with a number for our food. The food arrived after about 10 minutes. I had the chicken curry naan, which was really messy to eat, but I loved it. The curry wasn't overpowering. It may not seem like a big portion but it was plenty! I also had the white chili soup as a side, which was really delicious, it was half white bean and half meat. My friends had the the French Dip Au Jus and the Italian baguette. Both were good as well. The roast beef was tender, and the Italian baguette had flavor from the spices. All the ingredients were fresh. Our desserts were delicious. The cheesecake is really rich so I couldn't finish mine. I loved the pumpkin flavor. I also tried my friends' desserts. The apple cinnamon was subtler, and I wasn't crazy about the outside part of the lemon tart but I liked the inside part under the glaze. Be prepared to spend some $ here, mine came to $20. But well worth it and my friends loved the pick!

The Italian Baguette (open-face sandwich) that I had was pretty good. The bread was warm and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The chicken breast was flavorful, and the mozzarella cheese was quality stuff. The one objection I had was that it was too salty. As far as the duck fries are concerned, I have to agree with the they-taste-like-normal-fries camp, which is pretty disappointing. The tiramisu hardly had any cake in it at all, it was almost entirely made of the fluffy, creamy stuff. Those red rings on top are chocolate. It was really good, but too overpriced for me to buy again.

We visited this restaurant on a recommendation from a family member. Our meals were a full salad, meatball, French dip, French onion soup (bowl) and green beans. After asking the server if they offered wine, one in our party ordered a white wine. I can best summarize that the food was not bad but not memorable. My green beans had a strong aftertaste, like they were cooked with old oil. The service was the same; not bad but not memorable. Finally, what gelato bar does not have chocolate or so little of it that it looks like leftovers. With all of the other restaurant options in the plaza I am not sure if I'll give it another try.

It definitely caught us and those that entered after us off guard that the restaurant was now a full service restaurant. I ordered the chicken pot pie with the french onion soup. Both were tasty and delicious. I have to say that I do find it odd that the restaurant doesn't offer a chocolate crepe given that a)they per port to be a French restaurant and b) the offer two different styles of crepes; cheese crepe and a desert crepe with fruit and chocolate. They were unable to make just a crepe with chocolate melted over top (the true French style). In all fairness they did offer to leave off the fruit but still charge the full $11 for the desert crepe. It does surprise me that this place still remains open given that there seems to never be that many folks in there. The whole time we were there on a Friday night, only 3 tables were occupied at the same time. Perhaps i went into this with the wrong expectation which has jaded my thoughts of this place. It isn't a true French cafe/bistro, but rather an American diner with some French on the menu.

Four family members and I went here for lunch today, and it was pleasantly busy but not crowded. I had the Crepe Mistral, and my brother and I split the Beet and Goat Cheese Salad. Both were very tasty, and I would definitely order the crepe again. But with such an interesting and appealing menu, I'll have to try something else next time. And the consensus among my family was that there will definitely be a next time!

Ghyslain is an expensive iteration of fast casual, but it's worth every penny. I've been twice now, and my most recent visit showcased the impeccable service by the staff that makes it worth the extra dollar. I ordered the Cobb Salad, a favorite of mine no matter where I go. Ghyslain's Cobb might be my new favorite Cobb Salad, though. Full of fresh, crispy greens, chunks of real ham and seasoned chicken, and sprinkled with fresh cherry tomatoes (they had incredible flavor for any time of year, and especially for November) and some slices of creamy avocado, it was heaven on a plate. My companion and I shared some duck fat french fries served with mayo. The fries were heated to perfection and crispy on the outside, with just enough softness on the inside to balance the textures out. Once we had finished our meal, the chef came out to ask about my companion's pasta dish, as it is a new addition to our menu. He asked some specific questions about any recommendations for improvements (we couldn't think of any), and thanked us for coming in that night. Service like that, going above and beyond, is one reason Ghyslain is tops in my book of places I like to eat in Louisville.

French. NOTHING ELSE TO SAY! Emily H. is right, the menu items are the draw and the key. It reminds me of my granmere's village in France--all peasantly original and I mean peasantly! Comfort food with health in mind. I even kinda appreciate the gumbo. Go for lunch. Stay for a glass of wine.

Before I start my review, its pronounced jees-lay. Don't worry I still pronounce it wrong too. Ghyslain is probably in my top 5 brunch spots in Louisville. If you ever find yourself faced with an hour plus wait for brunch at Wild Eggs, walk across the parking lot and check out Ghyslain. There's usually never a wait and the food is just as good. I have never had anything bad here. Some of my favorites are the croque madame panini, Scottish smoked salmon, and the nicoise salad. The croque madame is everything rich and sinful on one plate - ham, Gruyere, bechamel, and a fried egg. The nicoise salad is everything you could want on a salad and then its topped of with a perfectly cook piece of medium rare tuna. However, my favorite thing there is the chocolate almond croissant. I think I would disown my mother for one. Okay, maybe I wouldn't go that far, but its that good. Its the perfect combination of chocolate, gooey, crunchy, and almondy. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

I have found another sandwich I could really love: the Croque Madame from Ghyslain! I usually do not crave sandwiches. But it turns out I just hate the boring, bland, cold sandwiches. Ghyslain's Croque Madame is what a sandwich should be: delicious ham, béchamel sauce and Swiss on a toasted brioche bun...plus a fried egg on top! For my side item, I chose the turkey white chili. It was so warm with light spice and comforting I almost licked the bowl clean. Hubby got the French dip sandwich with a side of duck fries. While hubby raved about the meaty sandwich, I could not get my eyes peeled away from those golden fries...I went ahead and asked for a side of mayo--the ultimate test for a fry. Those fries are worth every dip of mayo. I actually like these fries better than the duck fries from Hammerheads. These are golden and crispy all over without being over-fried and brown. I'm so glad I have finally found a foodie place even hubby wants to return to over and over. While the prices are a bit higher than your regular sandwich joint, but Ghyslain is worth every penny.

I can't believe how many times I've passed this place by without trying it! Tried it tonight and it may be my new favorite place. After seeing other reviews, I knew that the food looked and sounded great but didn't know how it would taste. It tasted even better! We had the French dip au jus with duck fries, crepe something with white chili and a couple pastries. The French dip had tender, flavorful meat and perfectly melted cheese. The crepes were filled with onion and bacon and chicken and cheese and it was creamy and amazing. Very rich and very filling. We also loved the chili. The duck fries were nice and peppery but not any noticeable duck flavor to me. The restaurant was cute but not elaborate. It's a place to go for great food. My fiancé and I will definitely be there more frequently for some casual dates. We also thought it would be a great place to get amazing French food to-go for a romantic picnic.

Had a great Sunday brunch here. The atmosphere is very clean, modern, and bright. I split "the classic" and the french toast with a friend and both dishes were pretty good, nothing mind blowing though. My one critique would be that the potatoes/eggs were over salted. The thing that I liked most about Ghyslain was the uniqueness of some of their orders. For example, my friend's mac n cheese came in a mini pot. Also, they offer a baguette with different dipping samplers, one of which was homemade nutella. Yum. The coffee comes in a classic French press... and they have little trays of different salts (such as Himalayan sea salt) on the table. They do also offer chocolates and baked goods. I tried a bourbon ball at the Ghyslain on Market and although good, it was definitely not worth $2/chocolate. The prices of the other dishes are reasonable, a little on the high end for breakfast but matches with the atmosphere, quality and service. I'd recommend and would come back for another Sunday brunch. Note: there is a self-serve aspect to the restaurant. You order at the counter and get your own glasses of water.

I went there with my husband and two small children. It was fairly busy. Two parties were seated ahead of us that arrived much later because the hostess could not keep track of who got there first despite taking our names. When we finally got seated we waited 26 minutes for water. Waiters and other staff ignored us. After a couple got seated way after us and were waited on immediately we decided to leave. They hadn't even taken our drink order! My four year old left crying "I just want hot chocolate!" My husband spoke with the manager who did not seem to care and only offered excuses. We used to go there every Sunday morning, that will not be happening anymore! They do not know how to properly ruin a full service restaurant, so please stop trying. You are terrible at it!

We had just recently had an incredible lunch at Ghyslains on Market in Downtown Louisville last week, so the bar was set really high. So, in all fairness this should be less than a four star, instead of a three star. The menu offerings where delightful and varied. I chose the New Orleans Gumbo, very traditional recipe and served up with three substantial pieces of fresh baguette - lovely. Bob had a Cobb Salad that was huge, but surprisingly, not as tasty as hoped, mixing the ingredients as opposed to laying them on top of the bed of greens would help, I think. His soup, the Minestrone, was excellent. I love that you can choose three soup sizes! Excellent. Although, both of the Ghyslain in the Louisville area are geared toward the luncheon crowd, I would still prefer to have my iced tea served as to serve myself. French press coffee is always a favorite with me. My chief complaint is one that I have with almost all restaurants, the noise level. Much too noisy; in all fairness though, we were there at the end of lunch hour.

oh...never seen chocolate so beautiful!! this is my 'OMG, I am craving for a chocolate dessert now!!'! as far as I know this place opens until 9 pm EVERYDAY!! YES! everyday including Sunday. And their dessert are DELISH!! All kind of chocolate truffle...they are made so beautiful and colorful, I do not have a heart to eat them!!! The price is kind of expensive - $6++ for a single serving size of chocolate dessert and $2++ for truffle? But they are heavenly yummy and chocolaty!! If you love chocolate, then this is your favorite one! they have dark chocolate options too!!

All my friends love Ghyslain on Market. I've only been there once for coffee and it was superb. So, when Wild Eggs had a 35-40 minute wait, we opted for Ghyslain in Westport Village, where we were seated immediately since they weren't too busy. My boyfriend and I reviewed the menu only to settle on the same thing, Red Velvet Pancakes. With that I ordered their dark brew coffee. Ok, so I am big on getting my food in a timely manner. It could have been that I was STARVING but I was super cranky that I had to wait 25-30 minutes for food after putting in our order. It took 10 minutes alone to get my coffee. I will admit though, when we got our food, it was very good! The cream cheese drizzle was amazing. I almost wish they gave me a huge side of that sauce! I will try Ghyslain again, mainly because everyone raves about it, and hopefully we get our food just a little quicker.

Just to warn you, my review will be filled with annoying superlatives, but this place warrants such extreme enthusiasm lol. I've only had dessert here, but whatever I had was out of this world. I've enjoyed their truffles and gelato and they have all been great. The last time I went there, they had a turtle gelato, which is a gelato made with the chocolates that didn't quite make the cut as far as presentation; that was the richest and most delectable gelato I've ever tasted in my life. I've been to Italy and in IMHO this was better than the gelato in Italy! The service is excellent and I really like the ambiance-it really does feel like a Parisian cafe. highly recommend this place!

Had lunch with my girlfriend here just this week. One of my French teachers told us to get a Croque Monsieur if we were lucky enough to go to France and when I saw this item on their menu, I took the opportunity to see what the fuss was about. Boy, did I find out! This amazing sandwich was made of homemade brioche filled with ham, gruyere cheese and bechamel sauce - oh my!! It was everything I imagined it to be and my side of Stacked Tomato was their version of a caprese salad with alternating layers of tomato, raw mozzarella and basil with a balsamic vinaigrette and was delightful. Honestly, there were so many wonderful foods to try that it ensures patrons will keep going back. On top of that, the desserts were something that dreams are made of. Now, how can we get them to open one up here in Cincinnati?!

Late Saturday Brunch here, avoiding the standing line crowd and loud atmosphere at Wild Eggs, we walked across the parking lot to the delight Ghyslain - were served quickly, a beautifully presented plate of eggs, and all that goes with - plus French Press Coffee, reasonably priced and lovely atmosphere. Afterward I drooled over the chocolates and the gelato! We'll go back and often!

Love this place. Can we give more than 5 stars. I have been here a couple of times. I always had fast friendly service. even when they are busy . they are busy for weekend brunch. I have only had lunch and dinner and the chicken salad sandwich is yummy and i have enjoyed all the soups. lets not forget the choclate is delcious. Now they even have a staff to wait on you. This time they even informed me of another location downtown in the nulu district which is great since i work downtown. I cant wait to try it!

My girlfriend and I made out way to Ghyslain after deciding not to wait for Wild Eggs and wanting to enjoy a well made breakfast. It was around 2pm on a Sunday so we were a little worried that it was going to be busy, but suprisingly there were open tables without any wait. We walked in and were greeted and seated right away. They went ahead and took our drink order and had complimentary water on the table for us. The setting was very clean and classy. They had pictures on the walls of women in what appeared to be derby hats, giving it a very localized theme. The menu is a fairly short and simple one, just 2 pages. They have a breakfast section, salads, sandwich section, and a small entree section. We both opted to try the red velvet pancakes with creme cheese icing and maple syrup. Here is where they lost their 5 star review. Remember how i said it wasnt busy? Well it took us roughly 30 minutes after we ordered to get our food. During that time, the waiter didnt check up with us at all. We couldnt quite understand why it took so long to get the food out to us, especially since it was just pancakes. Hopefully we'll go back again and the service will be excellent and I can tack on a star....but as of right now that is the one complaint towards them. Once the food came out, its presentation was excellent. The taste was equally as good. They were very large pancakes so you got your money's worth..They were fluffly and very flavorfull. The creme cheese icing was superb on them. I would recommend them to anyone who likes either pancakes or dessert. Speaking of desserts...... This facility is also known for their bakery and chocolates that they make and sell in house! They have a large array of chocolates, cakes, and pastries that all looked amazing. So if you're in the area and just wanting some dessert, stop in and grab a slice of cake! The pumpkin cheesecake looked to die for!

In so many ways, the Westport Village Ghyslain is a carbon copy of the one on Market Street. And that's A-OK with me. Ghyslain is one of my all-time favorite spots in Louisville, and the only thing better than having one is having two. Some similarities: - the menu items. I noticed many of my favorites on the board in Westport Village, including the Italian baguette and French dip. (See my review of Ghyslain on Market for more info on the food.) - the overall design. It's very white, minimal, clean. - the selection of chocolates and gelato and sorbet. Almost too pretty to eat. - little things like the fancy salts on each table and the water machine by the door But there was one thing I noticed that was awesome and totally new to me: duck fries. They were just salty enough, and the duck fat that they were fried in brought them to a new level. I really hope Ghyslain on Market starts carrying these. A great spot would be even greater.

Great, relaxing restaurant. Every time I go, it feels like I've taken a trip to France. Great selection of sandwiches, salads and crepes. Plentiful selection of breads and deserts. Today I had the Scottish salmon and it was tasty. It is served on focaccia bread and is drizzled with plenty of capers and lemon juice. I paired it with a beet salad that was delicious.

I've heard much hype about this restaurant that I wanted to try it. Since I live close I thought I would try it out for dinner, and did so this past week. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich served on a croissant, a side dish, potatoes au gratin, and an additional, cup of the white chili. The chicken salad was okay, not great, the potatoes were very dry and tasted warmed over. I'm sure they were warmed over because my dinner was at my table in less than 5 minutes after ordering. I also ordered a cup of the white chili, which was, delicious. It was excellent and the only redemptive item of my dinner. I was there for dinner and I was the only person in the whole dining room however, there was one couple outside dining on the sidewalk. I'm not sure what the hype was/is about this restaurant because, it wasn't that great, which was substantiate by the fact there were no customers. Except for the white chili, I'm not sure if I will return. BTW, the bill was over $20.00. Very expensive for a sandwich, side, and a cup of chili. I had no drink, only water. I'm getting very tired of restaurateurs changing outrageous prices just because they slap a french name on their business's. Also, just because a person has been to culinary school and has opened other restaurants, does not a chef make. In order to charge big money for ordinary food, it has to taste good, be fresh, of good quality, and you don't need a culinary degree for that.

I so wanted to love this place after reading the reviews... but the service killed it. (and not in the good way) We came for a quick lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Long story short is we waited for our food for 35 minutes and saw other individuals who ordered 10 minutes behind us receive their food (relatively the same order) before our order arrived. When it did arrive the salad was good but the crepe was cold and honestly a bit bland. They have wonderful looking desserts and Gelato but we were tired of waiting so decide to go hunt dessert elsewhere.

The Crêpe Fermier and French Onion Soup were my brunch of choice this morning alongside a 12oz medium roast hazelnut French press. In other visits I have been completely satisfied with the gratuitous serving of Oatmeal, being of the steel cut variety, accompanied by dates, pecans, and fresh fruit. The Pancakes are also ethereal when craving a sweet breakfast. The pecan-maple syrup whelms your tastebuds with "awesome-sauce", for lack of a better descriptor. But to redeem the douchery of my previous statement, it's as if Vermont ships fresh tapped tins of maple syrup straight to Louisville on the back of a horse and buggy. Don't mistake my overzealous comments for lack of critique. Although I think most pancakes (and food) are ethereal, the delicate nature of these perfect cakes allows for optimal syrup absorption, and that's generally my favorite quality in a pancake. The interior of the Westport Village location is a near replica of the NuLu Market Street location, and as I've never been to the Indiana location I cannot comment. However it's truly a different dining experience than say neighbor and competitor, Wild Eggs. (The wait however, is far better.) I've never been to Europe, but I imagine the sophisticated decor creates a similar feel based on the commentary of today's company, my well traveled boyfriend Andrew. I've waited to write a review of Ghyslain solely because I wanted to visit a few more times, but each time has been just as good as the last as far as food, ambiance, service, and my level of satisfaction after leaving. I can't really ask for much more!

Great place to eat and relax. Went there with friends on a Sunday afternoon. It was pretty cleaned out at around 3pm. We had some bread which was ok. My wife had a crepe which was great and I had the roast beef dip sandwich. It was delicious. I would recommend this place.

This is my favorite place that we stumbled upon. I knew I was in love when I saw the assortment of macaroons. It's a great place to go to for brunch or even a light dinner. I'm a big fan to go here for a small dessert & a pot of tea. & yes, on the way out, I will grab all of the macaroons thank-you-very-much. The only issue we've ever had was here at the Westport location. We went in one morning for brunch. It took awhile for our server to greet us. He was clearly frazzled. When he returned with my pot of tea & my boyfriends sprite, he ended up spilling the sprite all over the woman behind us. Normally anyone would be understanding about this, but he didn't even apologize. Just walked off without regarding us or the woman he had just soaked. Then he never came back after giving us our check. We went to the cashier to pay (& get my macaroons), but she told us we had to pay him. Just a bit frustrating, but maybe he was having an off day. Either way, I'll still be back for more, Ghyslain!

This place is our new favorite brunch location! Everything we got was perfectly done and very decently priced. Definitely will be going back here very often.

4.5 stars. This was my first visit to either Ghyslain restaurant, and I'm sold. The food was excellent. There are many options on the menu I'm looking forward to trying. The atmosphere was very laid-back and relaxed. I went on a Thursday night and it was deserted. This doesn't bother me, but made me wonder if it was typical. It is probably more crowded for brunch/lunch and weekends. There was one cook and one server taking care of the 3ish tables in the restaurant. The service wasn't lightning fast, but it was adequate and contributed to the laid-back, European vibe. We ordered the Italian baguette with duck fries, and the French dip with gumbo. Everything was delicious. I will say, the French dip was pretty basic and didn't taste special to me, so I probably won't opt for that in the future. However, I devoured the Italian baguette, which was perfection. The bread was crisp and crunchy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside. The duck fries and the gumbo were both great. I can't wait to try more!

My wife and had planned on going to Wild Eggs for brunch on a Sunday, but as we parked, we saw Ghyslain in Wesport Village and decided that we would rather eat there. We waited about 25 minutes for a table, and gave our waiter our order 5 minutes later when he came to get our drink order. He told us it would be half an hour before our food would be ready. We had an appointment in an hour, and we didn't want to be rushed, so we decided to just get some pastries from the display and head out. We got a maple bacon donut, an apple turnover, and a piece of cheesecake. The turnover was pretty good, but small. The donut was very, very oily (we saw it before we tasted it), and had a very odd mouth feel as a result, although the flavor was good (maybe a bit too sweet). The cheesecake was very good. Our waiter told us they were the busiest he's ever seen it, and it's normally not a problem to just walk in and sit down at a table, get food quickly, and enjoy a meal. And I would say I'd go back and try for better food and a better experience, except for one thing. As we're driving away, my wife said, "How did that cost $20?" We started thinking about it, and I'm still not sure (I wasn't given a receipt). I know my can of soda (yeah, the 12 oz can) was $2.50, and her cafe latte (which was maybe 8-10 oz) was $3.00. That means we paid almost $5/pastry, which seems ridiculously expensive. I could go to State Donuts and get a dozen (much better) donuts for half that price. Based on the lengthy delay (unusual for a bistro), the mediocre food (if I'm being generous in rating it), and the high price ($20 for a couple donuts, a coffee, and a soda), the most favorable rating I can give is two stars. The only reason it's not one star is because I'm trying to be understanding about being unusually busy.

My husband and I enjoyed a rare breakfast together here recently and it was a hit! The coffee was good, the food delicious and the service friendly and attentive. It was nice and quiet, very relaxing. We'll be back!
