BBQd pulled pork! Need I say more? You can smell the meat smoking all the way down the road. Good outdoor seating area. The inside isn't really much to look at but I don't go there for the decor. The food is good. The prices are cheap. The portions are big. They also have a lot of beers to chose from. I really love their style of BBQ. It's not the typical sweet sticky sauce and I'm happy about that. YUM!

I really wanted to give a higher rating! The meat itself was fantastic...the brisket had a dry rub with charred ends, delish! The pulled pork was good as well. The sauce wasn't terrible but not great either. I can't even tell you what it taste like? Not sweet, not spicy, not vinegar based...it's a mystery! Lol The smokehouse chili was really good! Not too spicy, it had pulled pork in it. Just the right amount of kick and very meaty! Also, the service sucked. I had to track down someone. Granted, she was nice but there was no attentiveness on their part.

Do you like barbecue? Do you like tender brisket and delicious sauces that are so good that, in the word's of Guy Fieri, "you could eat that off a flip flop and it'd be delicious"? If you answered "yes" to any of the above then the FABD is for you! If you answered no, please hit the road because we can't be friends! My fiance and I had a craving for some BBQ this past Saturday. I have had FABD bookmarked for a while so we gave it a shot. From the moment we pulled up, I knew we had made the right choice. The smokers are going right outside of the entrance so you know that what you are going to get is fresh and that smoky smell is what dreams are made of. This place is the definition of informal so we chose our own seat. Our waitress came over to our table quickly and got our water and beer orders as well as our appetizer order: spicy cheese balls. Those balls were good and definitely spicy! I chose the brisket sandwich (on the advice of fellow Yelpers), the mac & cheese, and the potato salad. My fiance had the bacon wrapped sausage with onions and an order of fries. My brisket was fantastic. It was tender and super flavorful even before the addition of BBQ sauce (watch out for the hot BBQ sauce, that stuff packs a wallop!) The mac and cheese and potato salad were the perfect definition of creamy. The fiance thoroughly enjoyed his bacon wrapped sausage (I had a bite...it was heavenly). FABD does barbeque exquisitely and, with the beer pong, putt-putt, and cornhole out back, we will most definitely be back!

Great food and awesome service! Popped in after visiting Louisville campus w/our daughter. Nadja, our server, was on her A game. If you like BBQ this joint is highly recommended. Please keep in mind that this isn't dressed up like a Famous Daves fake BBQ spot. This is authentic as you will see from the smokers out front.

FABD just isn't that great. I've tried it and I've tried it and I've tried it... I've wanted to like it. But I just don't. It's really dark and unwelcoming on the inside. The seating arrangements are odd. Even saw a couple of random chairs just sitting in the middle of the floor. For being a "beer depot", the list of beers is like Bud and Miller, etc. Nothing special. The food is marginal. The pulled pork is bland. The potato salad had very little flavor. The baked beans are pretty good. I guess they have that going for them. The brisket is just like the pork. Bland. It's clear that it's visited by regulars. Half a dozen or so guys sitting around the bar laughing and watching golf. Can't you tell that I don't like FABD? Seriously. Go anywhere else. McDonald's. Chick-fil-A. Anywhere. I'd rather stay at home on a Saturday night, eat a turkey sandwich, and watch reruns of Golden Girls.

What a gem in in Louisville! By gem I mean a great local joint with cold beer and amazing BBQ. We sat outside on the picnic tables right next to two large smokers, I was in heaven! The environment was eclectic and made you feel at home. The whole atmosphere made the food taste even better. If you love spicy food like myself I would recommend the green beans! The ribs and wings are delicious as well!

Went here on a whim with a girlfriend of mine, because we were both craving BBQ! The service was friendly and the scrumptious smells from the smoker made me want to eat the whole menu! I got the "Loo-a-vul Brisket Sandwhich" sans bun with green beans and potato salad. I almost regret not ordering a pound of the brisket meat and eating it all in one setting because it was that good!! The green beans were pretty standard, and the potato salad had a bit of a zip to it that I liked. While I didn't eat the ribs, I saw plenty of people ordering those, and I regret not getting those as an app! The rib meat was literally fall off the bone tender! (Be still my heart) If you're in the mood for BBQ in the St Matt's ish area, give FABD a visit!

This place definitely lives up to their reputation as the best barbeque in town! The smoker in the parking lot lfills the air soon as you pull and you know you're in for a treat. I got the bacon wrapped sausage sandwich on our server's suggestion. It was one of the best suggestions I ever took, amazing flavor. They also have a great beer selection. They also have a mini golf course outside. I highly recommend it.

Delicious BBQ!! Brisket was delicious - highly recommend that you give it a try. I enjoyed their mac 'n cheese and onion ring sides as well. Great pairings for the BBQ. The ribs we got were pretty good. They were very tender, but a little dry. Loved their BBQ sauce as well - it had a great flavor. Service was a little spotty - they seemed very overwhelmed, but they were kind and apologetic about it. I would definitely return!

I was lost looking for a gas station. When I saw 2 smokers outside of this restaurant I knew I had to stop. The food was excellent. The portion was extreme. The service was super friendly. The prices are very affordable as two people can share one meal. I'm going back next year

Drive past here any time of day or night and you can't miss the smell of the smoking meat, just to start your mouth watering. We usually get food to go and we order pork by the pound with various sides, all of which are great. I know my BBQ and this is about the best in town. Always busy so you might have to park around the corner and down the street as they have a tiny area for parking. Each time we have been there they offer you something to drink while you wait for a few minutes to have your order packed up. When you call ahead with a take-out order, they do not pack it until you arrive. We have never had issues with food not being hot. The fried green beans...FABULOUS!!!

OMG! So good! We stopped here by pure accident and I'm so glad. Our server was a pleasure and the food was insanely good. We all tried different things and we all loved them. You can't go wrong stopping here.

This is a fun place! Smokers in the parking lot and putt putt golf in rear. Service was very friendly. Decent beer selection, the food was good....it was solid backyard BBQ. We would come back for sure

The pulled pork here is hands down the best pulled pork I have had in Louisville, KY. It was so tender and was the type of pulled pork that didn't even need BBQ sauce, but I would still suggest using some because theirs is delicious and tastes homemade. This restaurant has no frills because it focuses on the important part, which is the food. I got macaroni and green beans as my side. The green beans were outstanding and tasted delicious while the macaroni was simply okay. It was not gross by any means but it did not exactly wow me. I also tried the spicy cheese ball appetizer and it was absolutely amazing. The cheese had a lovely consistency and just the right about of spice.

I LOVE FABD! This is probably my favorite BBQ joint in town. Their brisket is to die for. I get the brisket sandwich every time. I've tasted bites of friends' pulled pork and chicken. I've liked them all, and they always give you huge portions of the perfectly smoked meat. For sides, I've had the potato salad, mac and cheese, fries, and broccoli cheese casserole. All are flavorful. For appetizers, I've tried the stuffed jalapenos and spicy cheese balls. YUM! I really love the spicy cheese balls. They're so much better than your typical fried appetizer, and the portion is huge! Aside from the wonderful food and nice selection of beer, the atmosphere of FABD is another plus. It is laid back, welcoming, casual, and relaxing. The smoker is in the front, gravel parking lot. There is a good amount of patio seats. The whole place has a small town, down home feel that I love.

This place is great for BBQ the way it should be: tasty, no fuss, no frills, and great service right in your backyard. On my most recent visit, I was seated immediately and given adequate time to peruse the menu. While BBQ isn't my favorite cuisine, I do like to sample it from time to time. I thought there was a great selection of items on the menu and decided on a pulled pork sandwich with a side of cole slaw and macaroni and cheese. My server was excellent. I visited as a solo diner toting the company of a good book. She made sure my glass was full, and visited my table appropriately. Sometimes solo diners get harassed and sometimes they get ignored; neither happened here, which was refreshing. The food was very good. It tasted well-seasoned, fresh, and portion sizes were just right to be filling without going over the top. As someone who doesn't pick BBQ as a favorite, saying that I would come back here means that this place is definitely worth a visit.

One of those places where I have no idea why they are still in business. It is filthy, really filthy. The staff are rude, incredibly slow and rude about being slow, and the food is not worth a darn. There is just not a single appealing thing about the place. And if you are female, be prepared for some creepy gawkers. Seems to bring an odd crowd. (Creepy and dark bar type)

This is definitely one of the most reliable bbq joints and smokehouses in Louisville. The pulled pork is so tender that it falls apart underneath your fork. The bbq sauces are nothing spectacular, but really when do any bbq sauces stand out that drastically from every other? The sides are pretty much what you would expect at a large family barbeque, and taste good. My favorite is the smokehouse chili - for just a few bucks you get a pretty generous bowl of a very unique chili recipe that is packed with bbq meat. Really, you could basically make a meal out of the chili, alone, though I believe it is intended to be a side. You can actually smell the meat whenever you drive by - it really catches your attention and makes you hungry. That's probably why there's often a crowd there. The selection of beers on draft are a little weak - there just aren't as many or as much of a variety as you would expect from a place that has "beer depot" right there in its name. But it's still more than you'll find at most restaurants or bars this size. The staff is usually very attentive and friendly, and I cannot recall a time that they ever got anything wrong or that service was slow. While the games outside (table tennis and a few holes of miniature golf) are pretty unique, I don't know that they hold my interest, and I never see anyone playing either. There is definitely a lack of tvs throughout the exterior of the place, which is strange, since they have one of the few nice, completely enclosed patios along Frankfort Avenue. All-in-all, this is a good place to spend a Friday night in the summer. Parking is a pain, but once you get into FABD you'll enjoy good beer and great food at a very reasonable price.

Not one thing to say negative! The food was so tasty. We had a cheese burger, pulled pork, fried green beans, onion rings, and potato salad. Everyone passed there plates around saying the next thing was better than the first. I especially liked the fried green beans. It's a laid back hole in the wall with a great staff and great indoor and outdoor seating. We will certainly be back! Yelp reviews led us to this spot and I hope it does the same for you!!

The baked beans are out of this world. The best I've ever had. Reasonably priced menu and beer. Wonderful.

A very nice middle-of-the-road barbecue joint. I think I would have liked it better if I came in expecting a decent sports bar (it is) that happens to have a big smoker and serves decent barbecue (it does). Good service, good sides, easygoing vibe. My better half commented that she liked her pulled pork, since it was very tender, but she couldn't tell the difference between the pork and the brisket. ("I guess the brisket is darker?" she said.) And "beer" might be in the restaurant's name, but it's the kind of place that lists Blue Moon in their limited "craft" selection. Pitchers of Bud Light are $6.50. There's a place for that in this world, especially if you're sitting at a restaurant swilling for 2 1/2 hours hoping Big Blue can pull one out against Arkansas.

Do NOT miss the fried green beans, and the brisket was great. Ribs had a deep hickory smoke flavor and just fell off the bones.

Love FABD. Great food. Usually very good service, although sometimes they are not well staffed. I believe it's some of the top barbecue in the city. Try the brisket!

Going middle of the road here because for about 5-6 times going to this place when there is 8+ of us the service is one of the worst I have encountered. Never go with a large party. Food takes 1+ hr to get and almost always half the food is cold. Server rarely comes to your table to even check in. I mean we were there for two hours recently and the server never came to the table. We had to go looking for her 3 times and order drinks from the bar! We will always do take out as the service is one of the worst I have ever encountered, not to mention the kitchen is either to small or the kitchen can not handle big orders. I worked as a server for 8 years and it takes a lot to piss me off or to not leave a tip. Of the 4 times I haven't left a tip 3 is FABD. Now that I am done venting about the aweful service for large parties. When the food is hot and there are less than 4 of ya it is the best in town. The salmon is amazing and the fried green beans make everyone happy. Basically anything that comes out of the smokers out front is extremely good. But you might want to play it safe and get take out. Or go to relax and buy pitchers, hopefully your not hungry and the beer is cold.

Best BBQ in the city! It is a biker bar, but you can get a picnic table in the back!

  • Lisa L.

Love the atmosphere. Mini golf, ping pong & corn hole outside. Food was tasty as well. Service not so good. Very very slow. Food was warm to cold when it arrived. Can't blame it on being busy since there was only one other table of diners. Will give it another try.

Went here Saturday early before touring a bourbon distillery. A man was pulling four large salmon sides out of the smoker as we were walking up. It looked awesome even though I wasn't there for fish. We ordered a bells two hearted for hubby which is a good beer. They offered unsweetened ice but only sweet and low. Seriously is this the 1960's? We had a half rib rack dinner and half chicken dinner. For sides we ordered the green beans, Mac and cheese, fries and slaw. Mac n cheese yummy. Slaw pretty good. Fries were coated in season salt and too much so we had them remake them plain. The green beans were spicy and canned. Nothing to write home about. The waitress was pleasant enough but it was starting to get busy for one person to handle. I would come back.

  • Zachary S.

Amazing food. We got the full rack of ribs which come with two sides. Both sides 16 oz. we got green beans and the French fries. The fries were delicious had a good seasoning on them and were crinkle cut. The green beans were the most surprising. They were in a spicy broth with onions! Amazing green beans! Long wait sadly, but TOTALLY WORTH IT! My fiancé even said out loud "WORTH IT" as a waitress walked by and the waitress wondered if we needed anything else.. She responded that she was just excited about the food and we had a good laugh :) Would post a picture but the food surprisingly disappeared! ;)

Delicious BBQ in a dive bar straight out of the 90s. You can see the smokers out front doing God's work, like some kind of elaborate and vaguely sacrilegious meat church. We split the brisket sandwich and a full rack of ribs, with a side of fries and mac 'n cheese. Note: this is way too much food for two people, unless you're both Jonah Hill. I took a picture of an old biker with the gnarliest handlebar mustache I've ever seen. He took one of me back with his iPad. Fair's fair, bro. Fair's fair

Great place! Hole in the wall with great food! Got the half chicken with potato salad and baked beans. Awesome!! Give this place a try but be warned that its nothing fancy but they have great food, good prices and huge portions.

  • Autumn L.

Nice vibe and great bbq. Their salmon dinner is also terrific! Just the smell from their smokers makes me hungry. It's not a fancy place and I like that. Reminds me of my favorite place in my hometown. You can watch the game (go Cards!) while you enjoy some great grub.

  • Brian R.

I love this beer bar and I don't even drink beer. WHY? Well the smokers out front tell you why. They do meat. They do it right as well. I swear to God I had a pound of brisket and found myself still wanting more! There were tons of wonderful things on the menu and I intend on trying trying them all one day. The background music was country, there's a few Tvs... etc... etc.... who cares.... the atmosphere was great even but the meat will bring me back. And OMG the iced tea was so good and the waitress did a great job of keeping me filled up. Oh, I'll be back, you best believe it!

I was in town so I met up with a friend and his wife who live near here. When asked what I wanted to eat I said good BBQ and he recommended this place. I got the pulled pork which was great. The girlfriend got the brisket, which was even better. The two handfuls of fries we split for the four of us was amazing as well. Don't know if I will be in the area for a while, but this was the best southern BBQ I have had. Being in Louisville twice and Nashville once, this place had the best BBQ of the places ive been.

  • Tony H.

I've gotta give them a 2 for this go-round. The food was really good and I would give it 4 stars but the service was quite off today. It took about 20 minutes before a server approached our table. This was my first time eating here so I'm going to give them the benefit of a doubt that they were missing servers and had newer staff. All in all, I'll check this place out again to see what the service is really like. Really good food though.

  • Craig E.

I normally get Brisket but this time I tried the Ribs!! I wasn't disappointed. The rub was so good I really didn't need any sauce. The service was great, servers were friendly and on top of it! Great atmosphere too. Check this place out if you want some of the best BBQ in Louisville. Boom goes the Dynamite!!

Such good BBQ! I always get the pulled pork (typically ditch the bun altogether) and love that you add sauce to your own liking. They also have Harpoon beer. Woo! Don't dig the smoking on the porch, though. Finally; their lawn games (bags and putt putt) are a plus!

I had read this place was one of the best in Louisville for their BBQ, and since I'm a BBQ lover I just had to try it. I was not disappointed. It is by far the best BBQ I have ever had. I stopped in on my way home last Wednesday and bought some take out. Since I never had it before they were gracious enough to allow me to have a little taste before I bought it. It is awesome! I took home 2lb's of their BBQ pork along with there Cole slaw and their potato salad which is very rustic creamy deliciousness. I will be back, many times, in fact I went back today for more. today I had the ribs, Ribs had a great taste but were a little dry, sauce was good, I had the sweet mild sauce. I ordered the fried green beans with the sour cream and horseradish sauce, so good. Next time I'll stick with the pork BBQ. I'm sure I will be back again! Place is Rustic, laid back and Service was awesome.

  • Mark M.

Okay Bar-B-Que, but certainly not anything to write home about...dry rub with only 1 so-so sauce to offer. Service was extremely slow (waited 40 minutes after placing order) at 2 pm for lunch. Waitress developed an attitude when I finally complained. Apparently take out and to go orders have priority over eating in.

F.A.B.D. Is a great place to relax inside or outside. I love where it is located and the type of food that is available. I very rarely ever get ribs when I go out, but this place was irresistible. Sitting outside by the smokers and watching them come out only made me want them even more! Great prices and cheap beer. What more could you ask for!

  • Kristie T.

Went on a first date there last night. I happened to have a great time and loved it. We shared a couple pitchers of beer and spent about 3 hours there. I had the brisket sandwich and he had the chicken and potato salad and broccoli and cheese. We cracked up because his meal came with 4 toasted buns and tons of onions and pickles so we figured it must've been made for a family of four. He said his was a little dry, but once he put some bbq on it, it was perfect. We also had the cheese balls which were very tasty and a lil' spicy.

I wish I would have made it to FABD earlier. Those big ole smokers really entice you as you drive up or down Frankfort Avenue. How can you resist burning hickory? Surprisingly, we were sat promptly on a Saturday night. The place was crowded, but bearable. With that in mind, the service was adequate. The music, if you call it that, was absolutely repulsive. Rap and electronic pop music does not belong in a BBQ joint. It was very off putting. We asked for a beer menu and were underwhelmed at best. Twenty-some odd beers and the words "Beer Depot" are in your name? Sigh. I ordered a sweet tea and fried stuffed jalapenos. The sweet tea was instant tea, so if you're into that sorta thing, go for it. The jalapenos were delicious, just the right amount of batter and cheese stuffing. I have this thing at BBQ restaurants - I always sample the sauce after I order. I can tell that the folks at FABD are going for a Kansas City style of sauce...very tomato based. But what they ended up with was reminiscent of what you would find atop of spaghetti. Not good at all. I couldn't imagine any type of smoked meat pairing well with it. They also offer a hotter sauce, which was better. Now onto the main course: I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs with a side of onion rings and baked beans. The ribs were moist, tender, and cooked well. The predominant flavor was smoke, followed by pork. The rub had very little impact on meat. Nothing about the ribs stood out. Not the worst but definitely not the best. They also neglected to remove the membrane - BBQ 101. The onion rings were good but a little on the heavy side. The baked beans had the BBQ (spaghetti) sauce in them, so they weren't good. They were a little too runny for my taste, as well. My wife's pulled pork was okay - juicy and cooked perfectly. But like the ribs, the rub didn't really do anything for the meat. Our overall experience was very mediocre. Louisville has much better BBQ to offer. If the folks at FABD would use a rub with a little zing to it, the meats would probably be off the charts. Until then, FABD will be an average BBQ joint.

Got take-out for our friends helping us to unpack. Ordered pounds of pork, beef brisket, mac and cheese, green beans, and coleslaw, plus rolls. I'm vegetarian, but the beef brisket was so good I had a sandwich. They included fresh white onions and the most crispy delicious pickles.

The beer depot is my go to spot for anything BBQ. The service is always fast, and the waiters/waitresses are always nice. I love that directly across the street is a railroad line, so I can watch trains pass as I eat. Honestly the only reason they received a 4 star rating and not a 5, is because they no longer have the buffalo popcorn shrimp. PS the mac and cheese is a little pricey for the size, but it is great!

This place doesn't look like much, in fact it looks a like a dingy hole in the wall, but it is a diamond in the rough. My husband and I were here a few weeks ago, but that wasn't our first visit, nor our last. We sat out on the side porch this time, 90's alt rock streaming through the speakers. Ordered a couple of beers off their decently sized list of bottles and drafts. The smoker's are running and the smell is so seductive, I imagine those vapor fingers off the old Bugs Bunny cartoons. I usually order the ribs, tender and succulent. This time I got the bratwurst, I was feeling simple. Great brat on rye bread, crinkle fries on the side with some kind of crack seasoning. I could not stop with the fries even though I was full. Other items I have enjoyed include, but are not limited to: chicken, brisket, mac and cheese, and green beans.

  • Andrew W.

As I looked at the menu my mouth began to salivate. I could almost feel the delicious smokiness from the smokers seep into my clothing. Sitting there in the hot evening air, sipping on my beer, listening to the squeaking of a passing train... I new I had found a special place for BBQ. The atmosphere is perfect and the sausage wrapped in bacon is delicious. Additionally, the baked beans were almost as good as my grandma's and the coleslaw was perfect. Next time when I go, I'll try the pulled pork sandwich; that is the real mark of good BBQ. I suspect they won't disappoint!

  • Mike D.

FABD is a noisy sports bar that has smokers out front. If that's what you're expecting then that's what you'll get. Don't go expecting out off this world ribs or slaw or onion rings. The beer selection and food is very average (mostly a platform for their BBQ sauce). The crowd the night I went was very boorish (do you really need to drop f-bombs in every sentence?) and unreasonably loud (is there a contest going on? is there an award for telling an obnoxious story everyone in the bar can hear?). I'm all for folks having a good time, but this was just beyond the pale.

To start: the staff were all extremely friendly. The atmosphere was phenomenal, from the classic music hits, to the funny signs hanging everywhere. Locals informed us that anything on the menu would be good and they were spot on. Beef brisket sandwich melts in your mouth, cole slaw was delicious, and beers were great to slide it all down. This Wisconsinite is extremely impressed.

This place was awesome. We got twice as much food for the price as other area bbq joints or chains. They had the best ribs I've ever tried and the jalapeño cheese balls were excellent for our appetizer. The staff was extremely friendly and had a great sense of humor. We will be back!

This was decent barbecue and a good atmosphere, nothing to write home about though. Had a bucket of beer real cheap. Waitress was nice to us. The jalapeno poppers though, those were to die for

Alright so I just moved to Louisville last week after living in LA for a couple years. Was really looking to have some good authentic BBQ here... However my experience was pretty much just awful all around. I came here with a party of 8 and there was a wait. Not a big deal especially considering it was Oaks and they were clearly busy. So we finally sit and I would say about 30 minutes passes and we are starting to wonder where our server is. She doesn't come around. Then finally we ask 3 different people for service and eventually someone takes an appetizer and drink order. Finally our actual server, who I won't name because I would feel bad if she was fired, comes over and takes our entree order. Doesn't apologize or explain her absence at all. Whatever... Fine. Then things got worse. We ordered the fried green beans and cheese balls with someone while waiting for our server . It literally look an HOUR for the appetizers and eventually when they did arrive the green beans were great, can't lie... but the cheese balls were cold. Still not horrendous but it clearly had been sitting in the window for a long while. Just disappointing. Then another hour and a half goes by without seeing our server. We had to get drinks from the bar and our dirty appetizer plates remained stacked at the end of the table. Infuriating. She never came around... At all. Not even to our neighboring tables. She disappeared. Finally our food comes in two waves. Half of my tables food is disgustingly cold. Ribs, chicken fingers, pulled pork... just so disappointing. The taste was good, but honestly, very cold. And even after the food came she never came around to check on how the food was or apologize. We would have sent things back... But no one was around. The only and final time she came around was when we went inside and asked someone for our check. She brings it out, and we take bets on how long it takes her to split it and return with our cards. All in all, I will not be back... ever. I'm hearing the food is good when it comes out warm and in a sensible amount of time but I wouldn't know anything about that. Having been a server for years, I cannot excuse the truly horrendous service. This place needs to get this problem resolved otherwise no one is going to stick it out for the food.

Good food, extremely poor service. Over 45 minutes to receive our order, with no reason why until the food made it to the table. Our server was obviously pressed for time, as she was incredibly curt.

This place is great, the prices are very reasonable and the barbecue is great. I love barbecue and this is one of my favorite places in the city. Don't come here expecting anything fancy because it's very low key, most of the time you seat yourself and the atmosphere is kind of divey. The picnic tables int he front are dog friendly so I bring my dog a lot, they always bring out a bowl of water for her too.If you're looking for great barbecue this is the place to go.

This is simply our family's favorite BBQ spot. We love the laid back "joint" that it is - no frills, a little scruffy and just comfortable. The brisket is tender and the perfect amount on a sandwich that includes pickles and onion slices. We order a pound of green beans to split for the four of us. These are "grandma" quality with a kick. They must be cooked for days with a ham hock and then crushed red pepper added? Don't know the secret, but we could probably eat 2 pounds! Slaw and Mac n cheese are old-school and flavorful as well. I like the cup of Burgoo ( a Kentucky stew ) in the winter. And we like to make some time for a couple holes of Beerhalla when it's warm. (Free few-hole putt putt out back) This is a great spot for the regulars who down long necks after work out front by the smokers to the families that let the kids loose on putt putt. Can be a nice diverse crowd on most summer nights where everyone just feels at home.

It seems to me that there is a significant divergence in the opinions of this place. I can't, for the life of me, figure out how anyone could rave about it. The ribs were dry, still had membrane attached, and were over-smoked. They'd been parboiled or sapped of flavor in some other manner. I should have been able to taste *meat*. I could not. The rub was bland and overwhelming at the same time. It lacked punch. It lacked bite. I tasted a lot pf paprika and little else. It left me feeling like I had a mouth full of sawdust. The accompanying sauce was too sweet and one dimensional. Asking for the "hot" version didn't really improve matters. It was the same sauce with what seemed to be Tabasco added. The potato salad was actually my favorite part of the meal. The dressing was more complex than a plain mayonnaise based dressing. It was good but didn't rescue the rest of the meal from itself. The baked beans were run of the mill at best. The rest of the sides were just not memorable. The service was spotty. Glasses remained empty for longer than they should have. Any decent server would notice that the plates remained largely untouched. Not here. Seems that's more common than I would have expected. We won't be back.

I said it's a pet friendly restaurant but I guess only the front part of the restaurant allows dogs. They didn't let us seat in their patio, so I was a little disappointed!

Excellent smoked brisket sandwich and the baked beans were fabulous. Good selection of craft beer on tap and in bottles. Deducted one star for the plastic cups, but overall , excellent food, beer and service.

Ok so the BBQ and ribs- delicious. It's the atmosphere that's a little shaky. It kind of seems like a place for regulars, as everyone stares you down when you walk inside. It's a total dive bar restaurant, which is cool, but could use a good cleaning. Service is average, prices aren't too bad, and like I said the smoked meat is great.

  • Colin G.

Looks like your average dive bar from the outside, but the food is something special. The meats are amazing, loved the chicken and the brisket sandwich, and the sides. We had mac & cheese that was delicious, some great baked beans and some fantastic seasoned fries. The service was also really good. We got to talking to our waitress a bit and she actually happened to be the owner's sister. Couldn't have been nicer. Overall, highly recommended if you're looking for good BBQ.

We ordered the pulled chicken sandwich and 1/2 chicken with green beans and baked beans as sides. The 1/2 chicken was delicious. The smoky flavor was strong and the meat was very tender. Both sides were flavors that were very different than I've had before. I personally loved the green beans. They were spicy and smoky. But the baked beans were dry and sweet, but not like molasses. I actually prefer canned beans. (Sorry, that makes me seem pretty lowbrow, right?) The pulled sandwich was very dry; like take a sip of water after every bite dry. We got carry out, but would have talked to the staff if we were there for the meal. The place was super dirty too. When we sat down to wait for our order we stuck to everything. I'm happy to see they have a high health score though, if not for that, I would never return. As is, I'd definitely go back though and try something new.

Man...you just can't beat this local watering hole with its neighborly feel, great smoked foods, really reasonably priced draft beers and friendly staff. Been coming here since 2008 and I've never head a bad meal. Now they did change up their appetizer menu about year and half ago, so they don't get the same chicken wings, fried shrimp, or chicken tenders...but that's not why you come here. It's for the BBQ and the smoked meats. Brisket sand which is phenomenal. The Burgoo is a real pleasant surprise. Meat keeps changing up that they put in it (I think that is the whole point of burgoo) And yeah...there a few blowhard regulars that run off at the mouth while at the bar...but that's what makes it a neighborhood bar, huh. Kudos to Brandon for steering a steady ship behind the bar and all the lovely lasses that attend to the thirsty and hungry patrons. Play a game in Beerhalla out back, adjust the volume of the music to your liking on the jukebox, root for the 'Cats or (better yet) the 'Cards on the several TV screens and this is the great gems of the East End. No pretension. No artifice. No Face Time. Just a cool place to hang out and take it all in.

I went here once and that was the last time I will ever go here. Didn't care for the poor food or lack of service. It really is a run down seedy bar. So if you're looking to waste money, or not leaving a tip, than by all means go here.

Best BBQ in Lou! Get the ribs (the chicken and pulled pork is good, but the ribs, OMFG). They also have local beers on tap to drink while you eat your food. It's a little divey, but everyone from suits to plumbers come here. Great atmosphere and pretty bartenders (the women anyway).

I go there with my hubby, I don't eat meat but the onion rings are awesome!!! The staff is super cool...Hubby says the sauce is lacking but the meat is good. Once again, the staff is really nice. We went there once and they didn't have something on the menu...so they gave us a free pulled pork sandwich. That was pretty cool. The crowd is nice as well! It's inexpensive for a great meal.

4th BUST! This place is a classic case of good BBQ (pulled pork & brisket) and nothing else. Sides are nothing more than from the local Kroger food store, maybe worst. FF luck warm & ORings straight from plastic sealed bag. Then there is the service or lack there of.....I won't even spend the time to detail this train wreck. If you are the management I'm sorry to see you have such an excellent BBQ product and the rest dooms you for failure In such a competitive bar n food service market.

Best BBQ in Louisville. Best ribs in Louisville. Service is always slow but it's cheap and worth the wait. Make sure you ask for the Hot BBQ sauce.

I don't see what the fuss is all about. The food was not good, but the atmosphere was good. We had the smoked chicken... very dry... and not much flavor. The waitress brought out some brisket... and while very tender and had decent flavor... it had WAY too much fat on it. My husband had the ribs... while I like a dry rub on mine, these were WAY WAY too dry. It was like rib jerky. Will not return.

I finally found the best BBQ in Louisville! This is a very small place so you may want to plan accordingly if you have a large group. We were able to grab 2 spots at the bar. I can't believe I've been on the hunt for BBQ and the BF knew about this place the whole time! The brisket sandwich is to die for! You really can't go wrong with anything (although the mac and cheese was just average). Prices are reasonable. It's a casual fun place! I can't wait to get back. I should also mention the bartender (Brandon?) was the best server I have had in years!!

  • Ka-Lin H.

I got a point of pulled pork, a side of green beans, and corn bread. They were all very delicious. I got it togo so I can't really say anything about their service. The food was DELICIOUS!! Will definitely be coming back here. Can't wait to try other stuff on the menu.

We had the brisket, ribs, cole slaw, & French fries and all were quite good. Not sure what the complaints are about as our meat was not fatty and the rub and sauce very tasty. We've eaten at quite a few BBQ places all over the US and this very good. The cole slaw was great! Will agree that the wait staff could be more attentive to filling drinks.

So many people rave about the food here, but I have been several times and just don't see what the hype is all about. That being said, I am always tempted to stop in whenever I pass the smokers. My opinion is the BBQ is just average. I have never had anything here I would specifically go back for, which for me is the deciding factor. Drink prices are good, and if you just want some BBQ and a few beers for a reasonable price this is your place. I just think you will be let down if you go in expecting the best BBQ in Louisville.

I was coming to town and was really looking forward to going to this place. Not far from downtown Louisville, it's a nice little BBQ place but not the best. My lady and I walked in and it was pretty steady for a Friday afternoon. A woman at a counter greeted us and said we could sit anywhere. So we told her we'd be outside. We sat outside on the patio area. Two smokers smoking away were out in the front next to some picnic tables. Very cool. Our waitress rolled up pretty quick and got our drink orders. I had the sweet tea and ordered some 'Spicy Cheese Balls'. Even though I didn't like hearing myself order something with the word 'Balls' in it. I'm glad I did. They were fucking awesome. Hot, juicy filled with gooey cheese. They were little but the order was a good size. YUM! The sweet tea was barely sweet. in all honesty it was weak. Not my definition of sweet tea. As a Southern man I have high standards for what I call Sweet Tea and this was not it. As for the food, my lady and I ordered the ribs. We got a half rack with two sides. I got the ever so fattening french fries and mac & cheese. They were good, nothing new just good. The fries were a little thin but they were crispy, crinkle cut and came with a dash of chili seasoning. The mac & cheese was a solid version of mac & cheese. The cheese had that extra cheesy taste to it. I liked it. Not my favorite but good. But what about the ribs you say? Well the ribs were ok. Part of the reason I was excited for this place was the smokers out front. I give them credit for actually using them, I saw a guy checking on the meat a couple times during my lunch. However the ribs had a couple problems. First off there was no sauce on them. They had a nice coating of rub but in all honesty the rub didn't really provide me with any flavor. When I used the BBQ sauce, that was on the table, it was a tad watery. Alright man. The meat was tender but when I grabbed a bone that's all I got. A bone! I know the expression "meat falls off the bone" but you don't want that to literally happen. I would grab bone pick it up and that's all I would come back with. A bone and my meat sitting on the plate. What you want is to grab the bone and be able to pull the meat off with out any resistance. That's the key. To be able to eat it with ease but not by picking up off the plate after it's literally fallen off the bone. It wasn't expensive and I was happy I tried it but next time I'm in Louisville, I'll try somewhere else for BBQ. Three stars for effort.

This place has nothing food wise for us...back when we did, it is the BEST BAR BQ in Louisville. The place itself is great! The atmosphere and the general good vibes is what we go there for now!!!

This place nails it every time. What would I recommend?.... The menu. I always leave here so satisfied and full as bull. Two large smokers sit out front giving you a tease of what's to come as you walk in. A great simple atmosphere, great all around value.

I don't think they have the best barbecue in the city, but I think they have the best barbecue package in the city. I went back and forth on the scoring here - Which is to say that they may have only mustered 3 stars based on my brisket sandwich and fries, but they have Bell's Two-Hearted Ale on tap and mini-golf out back. That should bump anybody up to 4 stars, right? But they also have this gross smoker's patio out front (not the meat smokers, mind you - I'd inhale that all day) so you have to run the Marlboro Lights gauntlet to get in the dang door. So, A-OK seems like an apt descriptor.

I will never claim to be an connoisseur of fine dining, but I do know about places like FABD. Went last Saturday with my wife. We are from Ohio and wanted to try something local and found this place. No hoity toity here. Great ribs, pulled pork and beer. Friendly waitress who recommended a local beer that I had never tried. Great choice. Meat slow smoked on the patio out front. Interior was clean and had the atmosphere of eating over on a friend's back porch. Will definitely be back!

The service isn't the best, but the food is THE BOMB, the reviews are in a FABD's on Frankfort is the best BBQ in DA' Ville. love the brisket and many of the side are good also, but the Brisket sandwiches and the pulled pork and chicken are great. Cheap food with great taste and quality! a must when you are in Louisville looking for a place for lunch or a mid day snack. last visit was in January

I LOVE finding places like this while traveling. Places like these are where it's a little further away than most places, that don't show up on a simple google search for "bbq", and where you ask locals where do you go for a good bbq? These are the gems where you know where the locals go for good food, good drinks, and good company. Frankfort Ave Beer Depot was an awesome find, and I'm surprised that there's only a handful of reviews here. The decorum isn't much to brag about and fits the definition of an average dive. They have two smokers out on the parking lot that constantly pump out some delicious meats. We ordered the full rack ribs with sides of mac & cheese and potato salad. I kid you not, these are the best dry-rubbed ribs I've ever eaten. The ribs were perfectly spiced, cooked through, and fell off the bones as you picked them up. The two sides were also amazing and reminded me of homestyle potluck dishes. The beer was cheap and the conversations around the bar were funny so you know everyone was having a good time. I would have given this place 5 stars but I'm a big brisket fan also. Their brisket was just okay which was a huge disappointment. They also had only one house bbq sauce so drenching the thinly sliced brisket in the sauce didn't help the cause. Also, the power went out while we were eating, and I wished the place would have bought everyone a free round to keep the energy up but instead they were focusing on making sure that they got cash payments since the credit card machine wasn't working. Regardless, for the cheap beer, good company, and perfect baby backs, this place ranks as one of my favorite bbq places that I have visited.

This place is awesome. Great food, large portions, great prices, great drinks. Super relaxed atmosphere and a great place to kick back and spend some time. The waitresses were always on the move and ours was very attentive without being overbearing or a nuisance. Just the right amount of attention. No complaints whatsoever. A couple things to keep in mind though. 1-Not a fast food joint. It's a good food joint. So it takes some time. 2- They smoke the meats out front so there may be smoke in the air. If you are sensitive to that sort of thing...you've been warned. 3- Most seating appears to be outside. Dress accordingly. 4- Meat smokers are out front and parking is limited. But there are a number of little side streets to park on and the super short walk is more than worth it. Please understand, those 4 comments are not meant to be deterrents. Just some things to know before you go. As for me, can't wait to call some friends and get back out there.

The reason I did not give it 1 star is that the BBQ was actually pretty good it was just the rest of my experience was not so great. I walk in and there is both huge TV and jukebox blaring so loud on a Sunday at noon that I could hardly talk to my friend across the table. Is that really necessary to have that much stimulation going on? I ordered 1/4lb of brisket and 1/4lb of pulled pork. I ate what was brought to me not thinking a thing about it. They both came in little styrofoam cups and did not look like a huge amount of food. Imagine my shock when I got the bill and she had brought me almost 3 times the amount I asked for. My bill for lunch was $24. I was going to say something but I thought if I ate it I should pay for it. If I return to Louisville for another visit I will steer very clear of this place. If you like the kind of atmosphere where there is ear splitting music AND television going on then this is your spot.

BBQ here is far too smoky for my taste. If you like BBQ for the sauce, like myself, you will have to dip some fries in it or something. The smokiness of the pork (I've had the pulled and the ribs) is too overwhelming to taste much else.

don/t ever judge this book bye it's cover...b/c it's great. if you are looking for D good BBQ anywhere in Lou/Metro area this is probably the number 1 place to check out on any BBQ list you make. Awesome brisket and most of the time the pulled pork tops the brisket. with ample sides in size and taste there is no better place to chill, have a beer and enjoy every bit of delicious BBQ in Lou/.

On September 7th, i visited Frankfort Ave Beer Depot with a buddy. I could not resist the urge for some great Pulled Pork . I have a go to place in town for good pulled pork, but have wanted to try this location as it always smells good. The service was nice. We sat at a bar table and had good service. As far as the menu kinda plain. I expected more maybe more original sides etc. I end up ordering the pulled pork sandwich and a order of pretzel and beer cheese. The pork was decent but not worthy of a return visit. The beer cheese was good but the pretzel was a pretzel stick mess. Needless to say the bar was busy and maybe this is more of a fun drinking bar as food was not as good as other places in town

Just ate here today for a take out lunch and it just really hit the spot! I am definitely a BBQ snob, meaning...I'm extrememly particular about what kind of BBQ I will rate as good BBQ. This is very good BBQ! Excellent smoky flavor and a really delicious sauce that I found to be quite unique. I had the white chicken breast sandwich and it was piled high with meat and came with pickles and onions. The coleslaw was hands down the best I've ever had and if I'm pickier about anything more than my BBQ it's my coleslaw! The fries were nice and spicy and crispy and so yummy dipped in the BBQ sauce. The atmosphere isn't my favorite, but I can understand why a lot of people enjoy it. It's just not my cup of tea. The food, however, is outstanding! I will definitely be back to try the beef brisket sandwiches and the ribs! note: I give this 4 out of 5 stars because I'm still in search of the BBQ that will end all BBQ experiences. This is not the one, but it's very close I think!

I really wanted this to finally be my go to BBQ place in Louisville. Unfortunately FABD fell well short of my expectations. First off the service, other than the bartender, was non-existent. The place was dirty with tables uncleared for 20 minutes. The brisket sandwich was a disappointment unless you like greasy, fatty meat. The sauce actually detracted from the taste rather than enhance it. The extra sauce container on the table was discustuing. I can only believe it had been cleaned the last time someone complained. The bright spot was the slaw which I can only assume was from Sysco. I really wanted this to be great but was not.

Good BBQ...being from Memphis this says a lot. Good prices on domestic beer, $2.00..BBQ sandwich was stacked high with pulled pork...menu says served with pickles and onion....I told em keep that stuff and put a spoon of slaw on mine. Well she did, but she added $2.00 to my sandwich...shoot, I should have ordered it on the side..at least I would have gotten bowl full. The sauce is ok...something like Germantown Commissary..another reason for 4 stars. Had to ask for my second beer but the bartender was cute so kept it a 4 stars!!! I will go back and try the ribs...and I recommend this place!!

I ordered a half rack of ribs and a pound of pulled pork - this was delicious barbecue served in a place that looks like a dive. The Louisville-style ribs were slightly different from what I've eaten in the past (Memphis, Texas, St Louis, Kansas City and North Carolina styles...to name a few) but it was juicy, and the meat was falling off the bones, just the way I like it. It's not the best ribs I've eaten, and there isn't a whole lot of flavor so you have to drizzle the barbecue sauce they give you or dip the meat in it. It's still very good. The pulled pork was excellent. I'll definitely go back there but I would hold off on heaping accolades such as "best barbecue in town" till I've tried other places.

What a neat place! This was my first dining experience here. I will be back! We placed an order for pulled pork, brisket, chicken tenders, fries, baked beans and potato salad. Oh my gosh was this place good. It took about 20 minutes to get the food to go. Everything came out in separate cartons and clearly marked. Food was still very hot when we got it home. The brisket was the best we've had in this city. Pulled pork was a tad dry but put their kick ass bbq sauce on it and you're good to go. Five stars on the baked beans. They were flavored with some sort of teriyaki sesame bbq sauce. That was heaven. The fries were heavenly seasoned and delicious and I give the potato salad 3 stars because it was a little heavy on the onions. Expect to see a VERY casual atmosphere here. Lots of tv's showing sports and other programs. If you like beer, you will like it here. Very afforadable beer and the service was very attentive. I will be back to eat here. I recommend it for you too!

so stoked I found out about this place. Did a stogie night here for my cigar club and we were astounded by the quality of Q this place cranks out. A super laid back and cozy vibe with friendly patrons and servers. The half rack, mac n cheese, and baked beans were a welcomed end to a long week. Check this place out and support their hard work. You all know the cliche - if you can't say something nice... So I will start with something nice. The sweet tea was awesome. Fries were good - crinkle which is good with pretty nice seasoning. Pulled pork was better than most but not great. Service was slowish but they had just one girl working. She was great but just busy. Now onto the bad. The Cole slaw was nasty and the Mac and cheese was just ok. Reminded me of something served at old country buffet. The ribs were horrible. I have never not finished ribs. I did not eat 4 of my 7 ribs. Bad rub, no flavor, and tasted like they were boiled. Very disappointing. Literally the worst ribs I have ever had. Not impressed. If I lived here I would look elsewhere for mediocre bbq let Alone great bbq. Finish on a positive note right? Great beer selection. Too bad I got there at 12:30 on a Sunday and they don't serve until 1. You get 1 star if not for the tea and pork. Get it together or sell your pits for scrap.

As I write this review, I'm kicking myself because I've never played a putt putt drinking game at the Beer Depot yet... but there is always next time. Okay, back to the task at hand... Beer Depot has magic clocks. You get there in the mid-afternoon to grab an incredibly delicious pulled pork sandwich and then all of a sudden it's 2am. It's the only place that you can glance at the clock twice in five minutes, but it actually shows a change in 4 hours. Beer Depot is just good people. It's unpretentious and is a great place to gather with a bunch of friends. The beer is cheap, the place is VERY casual AND they have games! You can play putt-putt, pool or bean bags. You can always stay entertained. Bathrooms may not be the cleanest, but who cares... it's a ton of fun.

The. Best. BBQ. Ribs. Either sauce is good, but spicy is better. Good potato salad -- not your usual white mush. OK beans, nothin' to write home to Mother about. Regular beer selection, and a bar (tried to order a local specialty cocktail, to which our server replied "We ain't that fancy."). But surely you didn't come for the service, did you? You came for the Best. BBQ. Ribs. Anywhere.

I had the ribs and the brisket. The brisket was not the typical slices of beef brisket I'm use to (instead it was Louiseville style, so it was like a pulled-pork sandwich with beef brisket taking center stage). Not bad. The Ribs were good and the sauce went well with them.

How could a place that smells this good taste this bad... Or should I say average. Yelp really led me astray on this one. There is nothing to write home about with the food at this place and overall... It's just a place to eat when you need to eat. If you want a great experience checkout Smoketown USA!

D-licous!!! Best BBQ in town to my mind. My friend Susan, a local, and I have made it our quest to try all the BBQ in Louisville and FABD is some of the absolute best. The meats are great, dry smoked but still moist, good meat flavor, sauces are perfectly fine, and the sides are super. The green beans are delicious, never thought I'd say that about a BBQ joint but they are. We order everything by weight (1/2# pork, 1/2# beef etc...) so can't talk about the bread. I can say that the decor is fine. It is a bit of a dive but I like it. It does not feel unsafe or unclean, just well used. These folks have the best BBQ I've had in Louisville!

The brisket & fried green beans were great. May be the best brisket I have ever had!

Great smoked BBQ (Try the smoked salmon on Wednesdays), great jukebox, a putt putt golf course and cornhole set, ping pong, and lots of beer. Wings are great too. What's not to love?

This is one of those dives that's a gem that only the locals know about. A little off the beaten path but some of the best BBQ I have ever had. They use a good dry rub on their meat and the meat on the ribs falls off the bone as you pick them up. You can wash it all down with a good beer. The service was slow and that would be the only negative I'd give FABD.

Some of the best BBQ and sides in Louisville. Really love the Bean soup. Hate the smoking gauntlet you have to go walk through to get in, its a dive. Get it to go.

Great place to grab some bbq and beer. The meat is smoked right out front in the parking lot and prices are very reasonable. You can play games while you are there: ping pong, cornhole, puttputt, beer pong, etc. Just keep in mind for those winter visits that the games are outside. It's a very casual place, no frills. Check it out.
