Excellent Mex food. Reasonable prices. Staff is helpful and attentive. Chips are fresh as are all condiments. One of the best around.

Nothing special but the food is excellent and the service is great. Large portions, excellent salsa. I showed up at 10:20am and waited in the car for them to open at 11. They came out and opened up 15 minutes early where as most employees of businesses would never open the door till a minimum of 1 minute after opening time. Definitely recommend coming here.

Decent place! Very quick and friendly service. Queso blanco was excellent. Was a little disappointed their taco salad shell was closer to a hard taco shell than a fresh deep fried tortilla. Portions were huge and price was good!

I have only good things to say about this location of El Caporal. Service is always excellent. Food is consistently delicious. Large menu has something for every taste. Prices are good. Best part may be the hot fresh tortilla chips and homemade salsa that comes in unlimited proportions. Good for date night or a large party. Always satisfying!

Customer service - beyond awesome.. The food prices are great and you get tons of yummy food. Best Mexican restaurant in Louisville. Way better than El Nopal. Biggest knock - the restaurant looks old and out of date.

If you want decent mexican food this is your place. The beef tip burrito is good . Salsa is good as well. Not great but definitely decent for the price. The service is good and I appreciate the servers seem genuinely friendly and thankful. On the down side the chips are very greasy and most of beef entrees that are not beef tips are flavorless.

This is my favorite "guilty" Mexican restaurant. It's where I go when I want a lot of food for a good price, and preferably covered in cheese. You get a large portion, they have great specials, and this is about the best "Americanized" Mexican you can get in town. I've never had any issues with the food and the staff are always friendly and attentive. This place is definitely worth a visit!

Fabulous and cheap. The waitresses are always very helpful. Have been several times and plan on going back again.

Completely average Mexican (in an OK way); reliable. As a friend of mine says: "There ain't nothing wrong with it." Besides, I used to bring my Mom lunch from here 25-30 years ago and I miss her.

This has been our Mexican go-to for years! The wait staff is like family. Best Mex dive in Louisville

I have been coming here with my family since we moved here from California in the 90's. The staff is great and so is the food! Always hot, fresh, and the portions are almost too big to handle! Tonight, Jesus was our waiter. I got the garden quesadilla with beans and rice and a water, my mom and sister got the quesadilla roja, and my dad got the number six combination (a burrito, a hard shell taco, and beans and rice). As soon as I walked in, the bus boy that works there brought chips and mild salsa to my table. I am always super impressed by him because no matter how long it has been since we have stopped by, he always remembers that my family does not like the hot salsa! The food was great for this visit (as usual), so I have nothing else to report except that my quesadilla was absolutely bursting with vegetables. YUM! Thanks, El Caporal!

Stopped here just because they were on our route - GREAT service and good food and drinks. The kids had the children's nachos and they loved them, but the cheese was a little spicy. Had a veggie and steak fajita mixed together 1/2 and 1/2 - very good. Two salsa they brought to the table very both really good.

Easily the best authentic mexican food I've had since my move here. HUGE portions will leave you enough to pack a lunch. Sides of refried beans and rice take up entire plates. And Margaritas. And Free Chips. There's nothing better than local Mexican fair at a good price. I'm a customer for life.

Mole on the menu, telenovas on the tube, pool guys in the booths - all great signs of a good dinner. Is this "authentic?" Probably not, but this is way better than 90% of other Mex places you'll go.

Upon seeing the building, it would appear you could possibly be in a scene from Saw 5. But this is why you never judge a book by its cover. You will be greated with a smile and served endless amounts of delicious chips and salsa. The lunch specials are only 5 dollars and you will get more than enough to eat. Fast, affordable, and it will really hit the spot. This is one of my favorite places for lunch.

Although the food was decent (decidedly NOT remarkable) on our recent visit, the service was barely passable (couldn't the server stop chewing her gum long enough to take our order?). Part of our order was wrong; the server didn't apologize. The food was, as already noted, decent, but oversalted. However, the worst part of the evening -- what will keep us from returning -- was the shoddy treatment we got at the cash register. After politely pointing out a $10 error on the bill (the server had overcharged us), the (owner? manager?) argued with us, insisting that the server had UNDERcharged us. (What happened to the axiom that the customer is always right?) He called the server to the front; she admitted her error immediately; the manager still insisted that she had NOT charged us for one item! He never apologized. We'll have the last word by never returning and telling our friends to do the same.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
