This place was so cozy!! It is pretty teeny, about 10ish tables but thankfully we got one. I had the Benedictine sandwich which had bacon on it and it was delicious!!! I also got a side salad with ranch. It was a little disappointing - just iceburg lettuce with a chopped up tomato :/ They have a wonderful dessert counter with massive brownies and cakes. I took a brownie home and thought they gave me two since they were so big. I would for sure come back here to eat!!

Surprisingly good breakfast for an affordable price. Basically it is just like a meal I would cook at home, but I don't have to cook or do dishes. I can see retirees in St Matt frequenting this spot. Simple breakfast with friendly service. I will say i had my doubts when I walked in, doesn't look like somewhere I would eat. Very unfinished and thrown together. Pastry case looks shady but I would guess they are better than they look.

We live near here but had never stopped in before because it doesn't look welcoming, with faded ferns out front and tinted windows that make it hard to tell if it's open. Well, today we stopped in and were pleasantly surprised! The homemade Danishes are amazing, and the Greek omelet with feta, shrooms, spinach and tomatoes is my all-time favorite omelet. It's served with homemade bread. We chatted with the regulars the whole time -- this is a place where everyone knows everyone. The menu is bare bones and the atmosphere is sparse, but the prices are really good. We plan to make this a regular spot.

I felt a little awkward when I walked in, no one greeted me so I waited at a counter for a few minutes. Finally, I stuck my head around a wall to see if anyone was serving and I felt like the staff didn't appreciate my snooping, but what can you do when no one acknowledges you? The pastries were good, but it was expensive. I did carry out, the tables in the dining area were too crowded for my taste, but it was very clean and served fresh food.

Danish Express is like finding a $5 in your jeans pocket - completely unexpected, serendipitous, and makes your day to learn that it's there. I was at the stoplight at Frankfort and Cannons around lunchtime, looked up, and saw the "Danish Express Cafe". I was in the mood to try something new and this place fit the bill since I had passed it in the past but never been in to try. The cafe itself is small and cozy, with wooden tables seating 2-4 people and a small pastry display case in the back. I was greeted promptly by a friendly server, who was also taking care of several other patrons at the same time. By their banter, I imagine they were regular customers. Lunch menu is your typical cafe fare - soups, sandwiches, salads - and the entire menu appealed to me as I scanned it for what I wanted that day. I picked the salad and 1/2 sandwich (ham and swiss on white bread). Service was fast, and I was even more pleased to see that food is served on Fiestaware dishes. It's a personal favorite of mine, and I love when restaurants use it as well. The sweet vidalia salad dressing is a good choice if you get the salad like I did. Speaking of the salad, it was fresh, crisp, and tasted like it had just been prepared for me, not sitting in a bin for hours waiting for a customer. The bread on my sandwich was amazing, that thick, hearty crusted kind that tastes like it has been freshly baked, then sliced just before preparing the sandwich. FYI: Cash and Personal Check only as payment, so make sure you visit the ATM before you hit this place up. If you're in the neighborhood for breakfast or lunch, give this place a try! I hope you'll like it as much as I did :)

Milady and I wandered into this place one Saturday morning. The place was about half full. Mostly women - there was one guy there. We exchanged glances; the testosterone level had just doubled. We were speedily seated and our server happened by. Her ladyship ordered a Croissant. Since I cannot pronounce "croissant", I went for the two-egg breakfast. I prefer ham to sausage (mystery meat) or bacon (the English and the Canadians know how to make great bacon, Americans, not so much...), so I asked if they had Ham. Sadly not. Bah. I went with the bacon as the lesser of the two evils. Less than ten minutes later the food arrived... and it was delightful. Eggs were slightly undercooked and a little small, but flavorsome - and the thick slabs of home-made hearty bread made up for it. Even the bacon was not too bad. There was even some strawberry jam - enough to take care of the leftover bread and "fill up the chinks". I tried a bite of Her Ladyship's croissant. Mmmmm... lovely. Stop giggling, you in the back. They take only cash and checks - I applaud this; the added costs and risks associated with Credit Cards make everything more expensive for the rest of us. We paid our bill - $12+3 - and went on our way pleasantly replete without being stuffed. This is a pleasant little old-fashioned eatery; one of those modestly-decorated holes-in-the-wall that is such a delight to find. If they had ham I would have given them perfect marks and would eat there at least once a week henceforth. As things are, they missed greatness by a hair in my book. I'll be back from time to time.
