I really like this place. I usually get the fish tacos but the burritos are also very good (and large enough for 2 meals). The salsa bar is alright, i do like the Verde and the other salsas I mix the mild and spicy together because they taste better that way to me. It is a great place for a quick lunch or casual dinner. They do serve adult beverages so you could have a mexican beer with your dinner or sit outside at one of their few patio tables.

Taste - 3.4/5 - I like the fresh ingredients, but to me, lacks seasoning for a few things (the blackend fish taco is quite awesome though). It's different than your qdoba-like places, but they offer a similar selection of items (tacos, burrito's, quesadillas, soups). They remind me of an authentic taco truck with better selections. Facility/cleanliness - 3.9/5 - clean/sterilize your soda nozzles OFTEN and you'd get a 4 but that's only for one location. Service - 4/5 - VERY friendly and accommodating, and the general mgr runs the counter and she speaks Spanish, so accommodating special diet needs are easy. Wait times can take awhile during lunch though. Overall - 3.7/5 - I like them, but...I don't know if it's for everybody. They're unique however, and for some they might get a higher score for taste, but things like beans and rice that I would usually eat get left on my plate when I order it (due to lack of flavor). Definitely worth a try, and I eat there about once a month.

Back when Bazo's existed only in St. Matthews, back when I worked in St. Matthews, back when there really wasn't much to St. Matthews but those specialty cottage businesses along Breckinridge Ln. and a couple decent restaurants, Bazo's was one of the few places I could go for lunch regularly and always come away satisfied. That was a little over a decade ago, this is now. Bazo's has left St. Matthews, with locations on Dutchmans Lane near Norton Suburban, downtown off Market, and one near the university. I've been to 2 of the 3, with varying success at either location. This location near UofL, in my opinion, is better than the one off Dutchmans, but not as good as their original location off Willis Ave. I'm not sure what it is that's missing from these fish tacos compared to those I had then, but I'm just not as enamored. The bite-size chunks of white fish (baja-style) are tasty, the shredded cabbage crisp, the creamy baja sauce just slightly spicy, the salsa fresca, meh, but that's not it really. Maybe the newness of the fish taco has simply faded, and I'm looking for something I can't get back. I can live with that, I'm still a fan of fish tacos, just not the best I've ever had. Sigh.

I've been to the Bazo's on Dutchmans and just recently found out there's one on campus. The food is of the same quality as the one on Dutchman's and my two star rating is on account of the food. The difference between the two locations as far as service goes is like night and day. The person behind the counter never greeted me. Now that I think about, I don't think she said a single word to me. Maybe I went on an off day but at least try to be pleasant. After that experience, I think I'll just walk a little further to Qdoba or wait until I can go to the one on Dutchmans.

The food wasn't completely terrible, but it wasn't good either. I had the three taco special, and I chose fish, pulled pork, and carne asada. The fish taco consisted of a piece of Tilapia with some kind of mayonnaise-like sauce, covered in a pile of cabbage. Tilapia is the shittiest kind of fish, and putting other stuff on it doesn't make it any better. The pulled pork was okay, but the sogginess made the tortilla fall apart. The steak wasn't awesome either, it was dry and chewy. They have a free salsa bar with 4 salsas: mild, medium, hot, and extra-hot. The medium was green and the other three were red. The three red ones were all the same flavor, just with varying amounts of spiciness. None of them were good enough to redeem the food. I paid extra for guacamole and got a tiny little scoop of it. The cooking time is way too long for a fast-food place. There too many other options in the U of L area to bother with this place.

I went back. I know, I know. I said I wouldn't. The one kid wasn't there. The lady who waited on me was clearly the manager or the owner. When I started asking what the different sauces were and whether there were cheese or mayo in any of them, she asked if I had written a yelp review. I was surprised but owned up to it. She was very apologetic and said the kid should have know better and then she bought me lunch to make up for fact I didn't get what I wanted last time. Good for her! It's still not my favorite, but if I'm starving and craving a fish taco, I won't avoid it. I figured yelp readers should know the whole story.

You can extrapolate everything you need to know just by looking at Bazo's logo and font choice. Classic American fresh Mex, no sign of lard within 50 feet of here, nothing greasy. Even the pinto beans are kinda fresh. Something called a "garden fiesta salad" on the menu. Never Musica Norteno, but other kinds of Spanish language popular music. You get the idea. That said, the tacos are good, and I've only seen very friendly service. Several salsas, all decent, nothing spicy. Forgettable chips. Nothing challenging or regrettable.

This review is for the UofL location. Every time I've come here the service has been friendly and the food fantastic. Today I had the two taco combo with one shrimp and one chicken taco. Delicious. You won't find a better taco in town. Chips are crispy, and the salsa is great. Definitely recommended for a quick bite to eat.

I had the blackened fish and shrimp tacos, which included some rice and beans and chips. The tacos were drizzled in a spicy aoli of some kind and fresh slaw, and were excellent. The flour tortillas could have been better. Also the salsa labeled as 'extra spicy' didnt even make my nose run, but had relatively good flavor

Generous portions and affordably priced. I had the Two Taco Combo with black beans and rice. For my taco choices, I went with the fish tacos and was pleasantly surprised to be given a choice of fish styles - Baja (battered), grilled, or blackened. I went with blackened and was super happy with my choice. In short, inexpensive, generous and tasty. I'll definitely be back . At the salsa bar, I chose the medium heat level and it wasn't very spicy. If you like spicy/hot salsa, go for the hot option. I'll definitely be back!

I brought two friends here on a recent autumn Sunday in tandem with seeing a visit to the Ekstrom Library and a walking tour of the Old Louisville area just north of Belknap Campus. This is pretty close to my preferred taqueria style, three chicken tacos were quite good. My companions both ordered burritos and we will definitely be back for another tour.

I love Bazo's. The grilled fish tacos have a little bit of a lemon pepper seasoning and a delicious sauce, and they come with a lime wedge. The fresh salsa is excellent, and I also like the pinto bean tacos that come with a different type of sauce. The burritos are a little lackluster, and I don't like their queso and their seasoned tortilla chips, but you can't go wrong with their grilled fish tacos. So good!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
