This is a happening lunch spot right across the street from the courthouse. It gets extremely busy with the lunch crowd, but you'll forgive that when you taste what they offer. The best pulled pork BBQ sandwiches. Maybe ever. And their hand-dipped shakes are like a blast from the past..perfect. The ladies behind the counter are super sweet and most accomodating. If you've never ventured here, do it.

The day that I happened into Sam's, it was populated by suits (probably lawyers from the courthouse across the street) and Lexington PD officers. I'd passed Sam's so many times, I had to stop in and check-it-out. I ordered two dogs with slaw, a nice combination for a change. While these aren't pedigree dogs, they're OK, and cheap. While I don't make it a habit to eat this tubular meat, sometimes my stomach barks for one.

Decent. I mean its a hot dog place. Seriously... a hot dog, on a bun, with chili. What else can I write. Oh sorry I forgot the mustard. Its yellow if you wanted to know.

By no means is this a fancy operation. What you see is what you get. But what you get is inexpensive and delicious. I heartily recommend this to anyone in the area. I just wish it was closer to where I live.

The downtown location of Sam's Hot Dog Stand can be difficult to access if you have to park, however it's worth the frustration on main st to grab a seat and enjoy one of these fantastic franks. With toppings that I would have never imagined myself adding to a hot dog (Cole slaw/pickles) Sam's not only give you service with a smile, but suggestions with one too! The staff are always friendly and willing to help, and never rush you even though the line may, literally, be out the door and down the sidewalk. As a staple in Lexington's downtown, Sam's is an A+ establishment with A+ service to boot. Grab one when you're downtown, you'll thank me, I guarantee, these aren't your mamas hot dogs!

Stopped in here on a Saturday before going to the farmer's market to get a hotdog. Got chili, onions, and coleslaw as toppings, cost $1.70 and was delicious. Service was great, very friendly.

Unfortunately I wasn't impressed. Okay price, but I really could've made a better hot dog at home. Sorry Sam's that I didn't enjoy it that much.

Awesome hot dogs and cheap. Love their sauce. Ate here twice during a 3 day stay. It's nothing fancy, but the dogs are great. Got the lowfat dog and I couldn't even tell.

A great lunch place and a place that I love to go almost weekly for lunch. Staff is always friendly and love the milk shakes.

I was on my way home from NC and decided to stop by this place to grab a quick bite. People were super friendly and quick to provide me a sample of their food before I ordered. I had the pulled BBQ pork sandwich with the potato salad and they were both awesome! A bit far from the highway but great little place if you have time to stop in.

We were downtown for Spotlight Lexington checking out the concerts and really craving Ale-8. We searched far and wide and finally tried Sam's and they pulled through. I eventually went back and grabbed a hotdog and a peanut butter shake, which were both solid and very reasonably priced. Despite lines out the door, the staff was very courteous and quick with my order. I'm a fan! One note: I think their normal hours are from 10-4:30 on weekdays, so lunch is your best bet.

Mmmmmm Great Dogs Here! This place is a Lexington staple. It used to be down the block but I can remember eating dogs here since I was just a small boy. The chili is really good and the price is as well. The shakes are good too.

Sam's is a great, inexpensive, no-frills, hot dog joint in downtown Lexington. Very inexpensive, there are numerous toppings you can choose for your dog. I suggest a dog with chili and coleslaw paired with a bag of plain Lay's chips and a nice, cold soda. There are also limited time, promotional items available. For example, during my last trip, there was a BBQ chicken sandwich that is not normally on the menu. If you go during peak hours, be prepared to wait as the restaurant is very tiny and the line will often back out the door. Seating is also very limited with only two tables and two bars with stools to pull up at for a quick nosh. Highly recommended!
