This is seriously the worst service I have ever had. Which is sad cause I loved this place. I have been here for over an hour and so far I've seen three tables be forgotten including mine. I'm writing this as I wait for my missing waitress to come take my money so I can finally leave. The food is on point. Service needs lots of work because it ruins the experience.

Great "down home cooking". The service was fast and friendly and the food was great. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the seating. It's a little cramped with tables being everywhere and fairly close together.

We settled in for an early meal and were very impressed with the service and food here at this Ramsey's location. My mother ordered soup beans (pintos), mac and cheese, fresh tomato slices, and fried corn. I ordered 2 pork chops in Ramsey's signature "red" (read mild BBQ) sauce, fried green tomatoes and fried corn on the cob w/parmesan cheese. Mother loved her food, however her Mac and Cheese was rather bland and flavorless. As for me, I loved the pork chops and the "red" sauce. The fried green tomatoes were also very good but that damn fried corn on the cob really hit home. I am a connoisseur of grilled corn and this gave that a run for it's money. The corn was shucked, plucked, deep fried in soy oil, dipped in butter and then rolled in parmesan cheese. It was absolutely delightful and only needed a little salt to send it over the top. Serious cornage here friend...serious. We topped our meals off with a couple of slice of pie, May Day pie (read Derby pie) and Key Lime. The May Day pie topped off with ice cream and the Key Lime w/whipped cream. Both were awesome! The service here was also above par and our waitress continually talked to us, refilled our drinks and was amazing. Let me also add that this restaurant uses locally grown, KY produce which I admire. Altogether, the bill was around $36.00 for two of us. The bland Mac & Cheese and our overdone cornbread sticks, keeps me from giving this one 5 stars friends but maybe, on next visit, I'll update it.

Went here after reading Yelper's reviews and seeing the sign for "corn and tomatoes". It was wonderful. We had three veggie plates, which were fresh, tasty and quick, and also took two carry-outs for the kids. They had a wonderful fried chicken salad and mac & cheese. Didn't get to try the desserts; but, they looked great. This is a definite return stop when we're next in Lexington area.

I've never had a bad meal here. Kentucky comfort food. The price is right and the atmostphere is fun. The ingredients are fresh and local whenever possible. They have a wide variety including a vegetarian hot brown. They are also an excellent place to get a sumptuous burger grilled to your liking. Do your self a favor and go during happy hour. Two for one well drinks.

Love the vegetable plate! Great options and the pie is to die for.

Just got back from a trip to Lexington, while visiting I researched beyondgrits to see where all the locals go. Ramsey's was on the list. We were not disappointed. A casual friendly diner with really good southern comfort food. I had country fried catfish - the crispiest, lightest, and most delicious catfish I have ever had. I also tried the Kale greens - flavorful, but not my thing. The deep fried corn on the cob with Parmesan cheese was very good! The portions were very generous and about $ 12.00 bucks. I sampled the fried green tomatoes - Yum, the corn hush puppies - also delicious! My co-diners loved the chicken livers, blackened catfish, and pickled beets. We took 3 slices of pie to enjoy back at our hotel - we were happy we did. My pecan pie was so dang good!! The coconut creme pie and chocolate, banana pie are also very good! Personable waitstaff too!!

I never give 5's, so this is awesome. On a recommendation, we agreed to try this place for some good 'o Kentucky cooking. I ordered off the "Meat & Three" and created the following plate for myself: Country Fried Steak, Fried Green Tomatoes, Creamed Corn, Sauteed Spinach & Sweet Tea. First off, the bottomless sweet tea was delicious. It was refreshing, with just the right amount of sweetness. It definitely tasted like nothing I get back in California. Everything on my plate was good and would have fed two of me. Good thing I shared my plate because I might have needed to be rolled out of there. For dessert, I had the "combo" pie: which was peanut butter and chocolate brownie pie. Mmmmm pie. It was really decadent. Overall thoughts: I really enjoyed the food here. I would definitely come back again when I returned to Kentucky.

Authentic southern food, The Turkey Reuben was phenomenon! is very mouth watering, the side items are very tasty. You must try their pies!!!!! really, just get different ones to try them all. We only have Ramsey in lexington though there are three of them, I haven't not been to the one in downtown lexington but I am sure is just as good as the other two.

I'm giving this place 5 stars for being as good and cheap as I remember! In college, I consistently lived on the Veggie Platter (any four sides for $6.95). While in town with friends, I decided to try something a little different. I had the fried buffalo chicken breast, turnip greens, and fried green tomatoes. What I did not change up was the order of Fried Banana Peppers for an appetizer. No wonder I was Chunky Sue in college! Although, I'm a fan of fried pickles, fried banana peppers are almost better. Tangy and the cocktail sauce has just the right amount of spice. My friend had a hot brown. Like every other hot brown, it just looked like a plate of cheese to me. She thought it was really heavy, but like a champ, managed to make a dent. We were too full to order dessert, but I have no doubt that Missy's Pies are as good as they used to be!

Had to have a hot brown since I was back in the UK to cheer on the CATS and hot browns are not available in Florida. Ordered the fried green tomatoes for appetizer and they were awesome, especially when you spread the spicy cocktail-like sauce on them. Warning- the hot brown is not the same as served at the Brown in Louisville because Ramsey's uses cheddar cheese and ham with turkey and the original does not have cheddar or ham. Regardless, it was still very delicious and the hubby loved his first hot brown so much he posted it on his facebook.

Good Flavors, Good Taste, Good Value. I have eaten here several times before and have got things like the BLT salad which enormous and full of bacon, the breakfast plate with the 5 eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, toast, etc.. And now this time I got the Hot Brown.. First time I have ever eaten this and It was absolutely spot on.. Tons of cheese, gravy, ham, turkey, toast and bacon to top it off.. This is the second location i have eaten at and I like it much better than the Tates creek area, although it could have been fixed now as i had a very bad food experience there.. The value here is great for the food also so expect a wait at peak hours, but it is well worth it.. Enjoy you food as there is alot of it to eat!

Macaroni was dry. All 3 of us sent it back. The mash potatoes were dry too. I liked my chicken breast but the gravy was dry too! The fries and ranch were very good though! Pecan pie good.

Was not as good as the location nearer to downtown. The portions were smaller. Didn't have as much ambiance as the other location either.

Meh...I'm fairly puzzled by the crazy fan-love this place seems to inspire. I mean, it's fine, especially for take away, but...eh. It's a dated...well, sorta dump. And *bonus* it's hard to find via GPS (via 5 separate systems, - rental car services, 3 cells with various direction aps, 1 gps) YAY!!! My group kept getting routed through an apartment complex parking lot that simply did not connect to the strip mall parking lot over a quarter mile away. The staff are perfectly friendly, I guess. And some of them are working hard. They should be ashamed of their mac and cheese, though; better name: goop and glop. If noodles are no longer solids at service temperature, you need to start over, just sayin'. There are a fair number of sides that don't quite make the mark, even for a casual dining spot. No draft beer. And no, their "Icy mug'" for bottles isn't redirecting me. Gah! It's just not right: I mean, I should be madly in love with this place for their veggie menu alone. Except, unfortunately, given what I was served here, I am not. My meal items were entirely blah, as were those of my companions...among the six of us, we covered about everything, as far as sides and options. And nothing was even a flicker above...meh, I guess it'll do. Ramsey's saving grace is their pies. Really. They're the only thing I'd go here to eat again: Pecan was amazing. And breakfast for two days after my visit. Also tried apple, pumpkin, and some sort of cocoanut cream dealie....all were very, very good. Maybe the kitchen was having an off night, but given the completely sigh-worthy meal, not going to rush back for another go.

Ramsey's @ Hemsdale is my go to restaurant. This place can't be beat for consistently amazing food and service. Highly recommended, if you're ever in the area.

This is the place to go for fat filled fried food. If you are counting calories or in any way health conscious then there is little on the menu here for you. We had the cached salad with grilled chicken, it was good, service ok.

Just loved this place. They accommodated a huge group of us - 19 (i think) and managed to still provide excellent service. Southern comfort food at it's finest. I had the fried chicken, kale greens, fried okra and mac-n-cheese. Can't wait for my next visit to KY so I can eat here again.

Good dive for lunch or dinner. Good friendly Kentucky hospitality at it's best. Lemonade is great. I had the chicken fried steak dinner with gravy. Gravy was too think so I had to scrape most of it off to eat my steak. Price was reasonable. Ill give it another try and eat something else. Im sure it would be better than the chicken fried steak.

i love ramsey's catfish ! this is not my favorite location but the food was just as good and very busy. the veggie of the day was a sweet potato with cin sugar butter, omg was that good! get the catfish sandwich instead of the dinner and save room for dessert ;-)

It ain't fancy. It is tasty. I had a Hot Brown, a Old Fashioned, and pecan pie. All three were excellent. I never had a hot brown before. Excellent hot sandwich, great gravy. My standards for an old fashioned are pretty low because in NY/NJ, I have to remind the bartender how to make it. Here, they did it right. Tasty, citrus flavor, but the bourbon comes through strongly. The pecan pie was great, just right on. Decent prices too.

Stopped here while passing through on a road trip, (after reading other recommendations on yelp) well worth the deviation from the main route. We had three diners, with two of us ordering from the "meat and three" menu and one having a bowl of the homemade vegetarian vegetable. Total cost for meal with appetizer and drinks $36 The entrees were large and nicely seasoned I had the chicken fried steak which was amazing definitely hand battered and very tender, for sides try the honey-mustard carrots they are a nice blend of sweet and savory with carrots cooked just right (still firm). I also tried the sauteed spinach, I could have made a meal from the spinach alone, cooked with bacon and red onion. The vegetable soup had a rich tomato base and large chunks of vegetables and was served with two pieces of cornbread. This was a great reminder of how good simple diner food can be the atmosphere was nothing special and if you require white napkins and maitre'd probably not your place, however if you a looking for good home-style food and large portions definitely try Ramseys One last note on the staff, within 2 minutes of entering the place we had been seated and been attended to by 3 different staffers all very pleasant and attentive. Anytime our drinks got below half our waitress was there with fresh. The food was four stars good but it was the service that pushed it to five for me.

  • Nancy M.

I'm a local & my family eats here a lot. If you truly want a taste of good southern cooking, try Ramseys. During August & into September you have to try their corn on the cob! They grow their own & it is the most tender, naturally sweet corn we have ever had. Tomatoes are fresh around this same time as well & the choice of veggies at Ramseys...unbelievable selection! We love their pork chops (fried) - they serve 2 large chops plus far too many sides. My faves are okra, corn & tomatoes - sauteed together (nothing breaded) with a dash of white pepper - YUM. I also love the summer squash - cooked with onions to add flavor & in a very mild cream sauce plus the fried green tomatoes - only complaint there is I wish the tomatoes were seasoned a bit before dredging in cornmeal & frying. I've also had the turkey reuben sandwich & it's delicious. Blackened catfish is another fave. My husband loves their vegetable barley soup - the serving filled him up! Servings are huge & the place is always hopping.

3 1/2 stars, but I don't round up. Been here several times but my first time for me to review it. Ordered the meatloaf, which is a house specialty. The two pieces were tender and juicy, and the dipping sauce was good enough for a double-helping. My three sides were turnip greens, corn on the cob, and fried green tomatoes. Greens were very good. Corn on the cob was local and fairly fresh. Fried green tomatoes were ok - more breading than green tomato. The small piece of cornbread was a touch dry and a disappointment. In the past I've gotten a piece of pie, for which they are locally famous. But no dessert for me since I was already full. Service was friendly and quick, especially since the place was packed. Will go back when I want a good, simple meal without any pretension.

With only vague directions and two conflicting maps, we ended up touring the galaxy in search of the elusive Ramsey's, only to find out, of course, there are multiple locations scattered around the city. All ended very well though with our dinner - we arrived around 7pm or so, and variously ordered meatloaf (meh) and fish (pretty good), and we ordered a selection of vegetables - I enjoyed the fried okra more than others, but we all much enjoyed the fried green tomatoes. Corn seemed to have been a bit overcooked or else 'stewed' keeping warm for a while, but all was OK. Service was OK, but rather slow and lackadaisical, though the waitress was pleasant and cheerful. Ambience was just OK. Most things a little overpriced, I'd say. By far the best part of the meal was the pie - we had raspberry (mousse-like filling), which was extremely nice, and a low sugar black cherry, which I loved--none of that sweet sickly goo that seems to prevail in the traditional restaurant pie. Overall, only a 3, but the pie gets a 5!

Let's start with the black bean soup...very good! Next the main course...catfish, fried okra and fried green tomatoes I made the Clean Plate club! Then to dessert...Mayday pie....awesome! On business from FL and asked the guys to take me to a local hole. Sat down at the bar and Severn was great! Fried catfish sandwich was huge, light and delicious. And I had to have some sliced tomatoes. Can't get a decent one in FL! Wanted pie but couldn't do it. Thankfully I'll return each time I'm in Lexington.

Delicious southern home cookin'. There isn't any dish that I wouldn't recommend. Tonight I'm having the buffalo strip chef salad, the kids are having fried catfish and chicken tenders & the hubby is having the Cajun catfish. There are so many wonderful sides that it's hard to choose... Which is so much better than 3 potato choices every other restaurant offers. Be sure to save room for a slice of one of there many homemade pies!

One of my favorites in Lexington. The pork chops broiled in the red sause is my favorite on the menu, but for those of you that like a hot brown this one is hard to beat. I also love the large selection of fresh side dishes. The creamed corn, fried green tomatoes, and the squash are all good choices, but all of the sides are great. I've never experienced a bad meal here and the service is good as well. Don't forget desert if you like sweets.

Yummy food! This place has real southern cooking. Good selection of food. The fried chicken and the chicken and dumplings are really good. Also, the pies for dessert are very good! Down home authentic Kentucky at its best. Plenty of selections and seemingly all tasty. The price is right add week. Be prepared to wait but likely not to long. If you are looking for a quiet dinner this isn't the place for you.

Food was good home cooking. Large portions and high quality. Great family atmosphere. They were busy but the wait wasn't long. That's due to the excellent service. We had avoided this place assuming it would just be a grease pit. Far from it though. Very clean, great food and they also have Missy's Pies for dessert.

Marginal food with a close proximity to my house. That's the only real reason to go here. Personally, the only thing worth ordering is the hotbrown. Everything else is very mediocre "home cooking." I hear the fried chicken can be good, I've never had the guts to order it. When the meatloaf is on special, roll the dice. It's pretty solid.

Wow, passing through town and looked on Yelp for a non-chain, local-fare restaurant. I wanted the flavor of Lexington. Ramsey's delivered! Had the hot brown and a local craft-beer, West Sixth Brewing's Amber Ale (in cans served with frosted mugs.) The hot brown was incredible, if anything it's too good and too big. Is that possible?! Hint: split it and get a salad or veggie on the side. The atmosphere is friendly, very happy sounds from large groups and small. Bar is friendly as was the bartender, Casey was attentive and answered all my questions while cheerily greeting other patrons. The staff seems to have fun, which is contagious. The only negatives are things that there's no reason to change, location is in a strip-center and the decor is a bit dated but suitable considering the menu and prices.

A local 'must do' in Kentucky - don't mess around, Hot Brown's a must. Veggie hot brown w/ turkey also awesome! If you can make the room, save so for the Peanut Butter Brownie pie - deadly. All recommendations from our server Shaye, thank u thank u thank u!

Went to dinner with friends yesterday. They are from GA, so we had to take them to get some southern comfort food. I had Pot Roast with vegetables, my husband had the sirloin steak with veggies. Our friends has the veggie plate and the pork chop. Everything was spectacular. Steak grilled to perfection. Great veggies. Perfect night for comfort food! Our friends loved it as well. Had to get butterscotch pie to-go, since it was Pi Day after all :) Perfect spot for some feel-good food!

Homemade pie, friendly staff, great food and 2 for 1 happy hour = WIN! My first hot brown had to be from Ramsey's and wow. I would think a restaurant would need to have a special permit to sell that much unhealthy but heavenly goodness on one plate. I even got fresh, buttered, white corn on the cob for a veggie which was a delicious complement to my already cholesterol dripping feast. I'm definitely coming back.

Local, non-chain, dinner joint. Food was plentiful and just fine, nothing was extraordinary until we got to dessert. Yes, the pies are all that with whipped cream too! Ultra-casual with lots of locals; families and students. If you're looking for filling, pocket-friendly and casual this is your place. They have a bar, large beer selection but all bottles and the wine by the glass weren't very good.

This is one of my favorite places to eat when I travel home to Kentucky. The buffalo fried chicken isn't too spicy, and is perfectly flavorful and buttery. The creamed corn cannot be beat. The cornbread is just like my grandma used to make it. The atmosphere is casual with mismatched painted chairs and old wooden tables. The decor nods to local 'Murica and all her history. I've gone here with my 85 year old aunt, my best college friends and my 2 year old niece. It's a place for everyone with lots of locally grown and sourced food options paired with a fantastic happy hour. Missy's Pie is AMAZING. My favorites include the brownie bottom, the black bottom banana, and the sugar free cherry. Get any flavor warm with ice cream and thank me later. Is it healthy? No. Are there healthy options? Not really. Go enjoy it for what it is: down home, good ol' country cooking.

Went for lunch and the place was very busy! I ordered the veggie plate and had green beans, sautéed spinach, stewed tomatoes and steamed asparagus. Everything was very tasty! My mother-in-law had chicken salad and said it was great! Our server was very attentive! All in all a great experience. Will definitely go back!

Wasn't sure what to eat, so we used Urban Spoon. We ordered Buffalo Chicken sandwich, Cajun Fried Catfish and sides. All I can say is... Awesome!!!! Large portions... too large, I had to bring home a take out box.

This is a fantastic local find! My brother had the Hot Brown and loved it. I love the pot roast-the hardest part is deciding on sides!! The combo and mayday pies are divine!

I lived in Kentucky for nearly 3 years without having stopped into Ramsey's for a meal. It didn't look that appealing from the outside. Even the inside is a little dated but the restaurant is clean, the atmosphere is warm and the staff is inviting. The staff is delightful and attentive and I always receive excellent service! My husband has tried nearly every meal on the menu and he's always been pleased with the results. Eight out of ten across the board. I, myself have tried the Chicken and dumplings, the open faced turkey sandwich, the bacon hamburger and breakfast (eggs, pancakes, bacon, etc.). I don't know how nutritional the food is but i know it qualifies as comfort food. I enjoy the chicken and dumplings but sometimes i get a small bone with them (on two occasions). I'll give it a 7 out of 10. I know the open faced sandwiches are probably high in sodium because of the gravy but every once in a while doesn't hurt. This meal doesn't have a lot of flavor. I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10. I recently tried the hamburger for the first time. It was cooked perfectly. I like well done but i don't like burnt and my hamburger was cooked through and still juicy. I had fries with it (not greasy). I'd give this plate a 10 for 10. Breakfast is breakfast. It's not out of this world but its not Waffle House either. My pancakes always seem to fall apart when i order them. I am not sure why? They are good but slightly messy. My hash browns were overcooked (charred brown) the last time i visited but I'm sure it's not always like that. The bacon is good and crispy. I haven't tried the sausage or ham. As fas as sides go, I have tried the mashed potatoes (8-10) the pinto beans (9-10) and the corn flowers (9-10). My kids love the corn flowers. They also enjoy the dumplings and hamburgers or a simple veggie plate. The food here is filling and the portions are generous. It's an affordable, tasty meal amongst family and friends. I like to dine here once a week.

This is the place to go for fat filled fried food. If you are counting calories or in any way health conscious then there is little on the menu here for you. We had the cached salad with grilled chicken, it was good, service ok.

Being new to Lexington everyone told me I have to try a Kentucky Hot Brown. And everyone told me I have to get it at Ramsey's! I loved it! I love the decor! Great food, awesome service and good prices. We all had more then we could eat and left a happy family. Definitely will be a regular here!

Pretty good food. Was very busy which is good sign. I had a hot brown which was awesome but a little too rich for my stomach, and there was no tomato? My husband had pork chops (good), coleslaw (awesome), fries, and green beans (said they tasted like his grandmas, awesome). I had mayday pie (delish) and he opted for Apple (good). Overall, we liked it...was like having dinner at a relatives house.

Down home authentic Kentucky at its best. Plenty of selections and seemingly all tasty. The price is right add week. Be prepared to wait but likely not to long. If you are looking for a quiet dinner this isn't the place for you.

When I first moved to Lexington, I tried Ramsey's and thought it was fun. After a couple of months, I realized it's a whole lot of fried food, and it all tastes the same. The dining experience is nonexistent, with college kids just putting in their time. Recently, I decided to bring pie to a dinner party and came here to get Missy's Pies. THAT experience was a disaster. Each pie was $20 -- pretty steep for such a simple thing. But the purchase process adds insult to injury -- only the bartender can place To Go orders. So I got to wait (and wait) as she took food and drink orders, delivered them, and checked for my pie availability in the back a couple of times. So I spent about 30 minutes waiting to pay for my $60 worth of pies. Trust me -- never again.

I travel due to work and always try to go to the local places. I prefer to try the Mom and Pop restaurants because they usually seem to care more. I had their signature meal. a Hot Brown. and oh how delicious it was!!! It was more food that most people can eat and it was a heaven of flavors. It has turkey, ham, cream sauce and loads of cheddar cheese with 2 strips of bacon on top. It is suppose to be an open face sandwich and they had no problem making it for me without the bread. I also tried the Mayday pie which was divine. It was pecan and chocolate pie which I think is sometimes referred to as Derby pie. Complete happiness to my tastebuds! The service was fantastic. The atmosphere was family oriented. They even have a toybox in the main dining room! There are hooks on the wall to hand you coat during the colder months. All in all a wonderful experience which I hope to someday repeat if I ever make it back to Lexington!

Yummy food! This place has real southern cooking. Good selection of food. The fried chicken and the chicken and dumplings are really good. Also, the pies for dessert are very good!

I love getting pie as an appetizer here. Then following up with dinner. My go-to is the fried chicken breast with the two sides. My favorites are the creamed corn and the tomatoes. Corn and 'mater days are really the best times to come here. Fried corn is a thing and if you haven't tried it, it is totally worth it. The hot brown here is better than the one I have had at the Brown Hotel. I am not sure if that says something about the Brown Hotel or Ramseys. Go here for the pies. It really is the best part of dinner.

One of my very favorite places to eat in Lexington! Thank goodness corn daze was still going on. Okra corn and tomatoes is a favorite and I had fried corn with parmesan, salad, and cucumber salad to go with it. Everything was great and the corn bread dipped in the ranch dressing (Yes, I'm weird) topped it off. No room for pie today

Excellent southern food with large portions and a number of healthy options. Don't miss the deep fried corn with Parmesan! I know a few franchises who specialize in boneless buffalo wings, but theirs do not come close to Ramsey's. And you thought Ramsey's was only about southern home cooking?! I usually get the buffalo chicken strip salad. It's the best around. The chicken is evenly coated with sauce, and comes hot on a bed of lettuce and cheese. The chicken heats the cheese to soft perfection. The ranch and blue cheese are homemade and delicious. Don't worry if someone in your party isn't interested in a salad, they have specialties like items like the Hot Brown, and chicken livers. They're also known for their vegetable options that include fried green tomatoes and rotating seasonal options. This is one of three Ramsey's locations. This one is in the Hamburg area, in the same strip mall as Orange Leaf. But you probably won't make it over to Orange Leaf, because if you're in the mood for dessert, you'll probably be enticed by a slice of Missy's pie... especially if you see other people indulging in a slice of goodness. One day I'm going to just go here and get a slice of pie, because I've never "saved room for dessert". It's not everywhere that you find a place that specializes in vegetables and pies... welcome to Lexington!

Good southern cooking! Try the hot brown, fried green tomatoes, and any of Missy's pies that you can get your hands on

I had a hot brown. First one ever. It was amazing. Service was great and kept my drink refilled. Will definitely go back.

Food was excellent! Service was good. Portions were monstrous! They were out of potato skin appetizers. ..fail. Overall good. Hot brown was huge and good. As were the fried banana peppers. Soup was cold and had to send back to get reheated.

The lemon yogurt chicken was awesome; split a plate and it was just the right amount of food to consume with dessert :) Large selection of pies and cheesecakes available. A Lexington staple.

The best roast beef open face sandwich ever. I have never gotten anything I did not like. The pie is out of this world. WOW. It is a can't miss place.
