The most beautiful display of beers. We went to watch Bulls/Hawks the other night and were thrilled by the chill setting and the hundreds of beers. We're returning tomorrow evening. (!!)

Cozy little German Restaurant. Looks a bit run down but the food is delicious and prices are quite reasonable. The beer stube side is dark and pseudo-divey but it's harmless and features a large beer selection.

My favorite place in Lexington. Great German food and awesome beer selection. The bar has 8 high-quality dart boards, pool tables, foosball, and a really eclectic jukebox.

One of my favorite places in lexington. Their wurst dinner with spaetzle and gravy is fantastic. Their red cabbage isn't too shabby either. Don't forget to ask for some pretzel buns with your wurst dinner, as they don't bring them unless you ask. Remarkable beer selection too!

Love this place. The restaurant has excellent German and Central European food that is as far as I can tell from my travels there authentic. Authenticity aside, it's absolutely delicious. The bier stube is a sizable bar with 20+ taps and hundreds of bottled beers from every corner of the globe. Pilsners from Plzeň? Not a problem. The bar itself is well appointed with TVs broadcasting various sporting events. Three or four billiards tables and two areas for dart throwing as well as plenty table space make this a great place for an evening out with friends. In warmer weather they have a volleyball court in the backyard and outdoor seating as well. The bar also has pretzels available pretty much all the time even though the restaurant closes far earlier so if you want food you should take this into account

If you love German food and German beer then I really don't need to post anything but "Go, now!!"

I think I'll need to try this place a few more times. German food is a new development for me. Marikka's has schnitzel, brats, and potato pancakes. I had a schnitzel and some potato pancakes--but they were pretty bland. Other reviewers have mentioned it kind of a manufactured taste with canned green beans, but the green beans were fine. I just expected the specialty food, the food you cannot find elsewhere to shine and this was not the case. I will go again and give it another try, if anything, the vast beer list will be worth a few visits to the bar.

Marikka's is a solid 4-star restaurant. Service is great, food is good, portions are large, prices are fair. Sari ordered the Wiener Schnitzel and Spaetzle. I ordered Rahmschnitzel (it's Wiener Schnitzel in a cream sauce), it came with roast potatoes and green beans. We've dined here a few times and our experience has been consistent. Greeted and seated quickly, bread brought to the table and our order taken quickly. Servers are accommodating (Spaetzle instead of fries? Sure! Would you like gravy? On the side?) and knowledgeable. The food is good, basic, comfort food. It's like sitting down to Tuesday dinner at home; It isn't fancy. Bread is brought to the table but there aren't bread plates. Utensils are wrapped in a paper napkin. Sari's side salad was topped with potato sticks and I suspect my green beans were canned. It's all good; everything tastes good, and the price is right. They have a massive beer list so you're sure to find something tasty to accompany your meal. Note that they open at 5PM so don't think lunch.

Really good food. Fairly authentic. Service could be a little quicker, but was very friendly & helpful when she was at our table. Portions are huge!

Great place to meet a group for pool, darts, and a good bottled beer selection. I'm not particularly impressed with the food, however. On one visit, our giant pretzel was not cooked enough and the dough was raw in the middle. On another visit, our mini sandwiches were mediocre. I recommend going on a full stomach for just the activities and beer selection.

This may be the only place in town to get German food. At Least the only place I've heard of. I have always enjoyed the food here. It's very hearty and rich. The restaurant and bar areas are separate but you can order food at the bar and drinks in the Restuarant, of course. Their beer selection is amazing! They have a paper beer menu that is pages long, including mostly bottles but several drafts too!

  • Jon G.

The beer selection is out of this world. I love catching a volley ball game and shooting pool. Most of the staff are amazing people.

Decent German food. Yes a beer list like any in Lex but the food was good but so-so in flavor. Decor falls way short. Either go all out and make it a place to see or take down all the cheesy garb.

The servers are always friendly - true to the German nature - and the food is always warm and tasty. My family loves to swing by here whenever we want to get in touch with our (long lost) heritage with some hearty German food. Portions are good. It's a nice little unique gem in Lexington.

Went there Monday night for dinner and try our food. My battery had died so couldn't take pic.. Ordered one beer and two different items signature German dishes.. They were really good.. Only reason I gave it three stars for ambience in beer bar.. Other than pretty good.. Definitely 4 star worth!!!

This place has the best selection of beer, next to a liquor store, that I have seen in Lexington. Unique to them as well are their volleyball tournaments, the people here are actually pretty good and take it rather seriously, while still having fun of course. If pool or darts are more your speed, they have that too. Keep in mind there is a restaurant next door with some delicious German food as well, brats...... How can you go wrong. The bartenders are knowledgable about what hey offer and are good at asking you questions about your particular taste so they can direct you to the beer you really want. Light, dark, and strange (I'm talking about you doughnut beer), you will find something you like. This place introduced me to my new favorite category of beer, smoked porters, they are amazing.

My husband and I had a good laugh when the waitress brought out our enormous soft pretzel.... it was bigger than our head! The beer cheese is a must, best I've ever had. Good beer selection. Food was great and service was even better. The portions were huge yet very reasonably priced. Very casual atmosphere. Husband recommends the fried veal with sunny side up eggs. I had the fish sandwich and it was quite yummy. Pass on the potato cakes though.. they were a bit soggy. Spatzle was great and is a must try!

  • Delmy M.

850+ types of beer in one place! I have never seen so much beer in one restaurant! I give it 4 stars because I didn't have any food since the kitchen was closed.

  • Jeff H.

They do have a great beer selection, but the service is really lacking. I've been here many times and it is always like it is inconvenient for the servers and bartenders to help you. The German food is good but the appetizers are not. Too many other places with great craft beers and better food and service to bother with this one...

Very good #Germancuisine.... Give them a try. You will be glad you did!

Best beer selection in town. Good food, great service. Authentic German food, conveniently located on Southland Drive. Take out is easy. Call ahead or order when you arrive. Hostess takes care of you. I love the Rahmschnitzle, but the Kielbasa is great, too. Lots of sauces to try! Why aren't you on your way here now? Rarely a wait. Most dinners from $8-$14.

My aunt brought me here, saying that it was the closest restaurant she's ever found that reminded her of the food when she lived in Germany. She said it was nearly identical. And for someone who has traveled the world, eaten in many places in Europe and like I said she lived in Germany for years!!! A big compliment. Service: everyone was polite, quick to refill drinks and help with pronouncing the names of food for others in my party who couldn't haha. Decor: it is a huge space...I mean HUGE. Lots of tables, two sections of rooms so you will easily find a place to sit. I've never drank at the bar so I can't tell you about that but I heard from a friend that its great being she goes there regularly to drink. Food: they feed you...you cannot say they don't fill that belly because the portions are massive. Big plates, steaming with fresh greens, freshly cooked red potatoes and my fish tasted so good. I sampled many things around the table and it was all very tasty.

Good food and great service. Found too many excellent English ales so chose Hobgoblin. Good as it gets and many other excellent drafts. Specializing in German food, price and selection is very good and the food itself has never disappointed. We will keep driving to Lexington for German because Louisville has yet to provide similar settings.

A beer lover's paradise. A large selection of beers on draft and in bottles (domestic and imported). A good food menu reasonable priced with generous portion. Highly recommend.

If you like beer this is the place! Has decent food but nothing to rave about. Has become a regular place to hang when Were in town. Like the weekdays better, gets a bit collegie for us on the weekends. It is cool that they have outdoor volleyball in the summer, and pool and darts. Overall we love the place, especially for trying new types of beer every time we go

  • Jenny H.

They have a huge beer list, which was nice but I would've actually preferred a more narrow selection of German beers, or more special beers to try out, rather than ever which shitty beer you could possibly want to get from multiple countries around the world. What makes the place bad though is the food. The kraut was bland and kind of mushy, and the sausage nothing special - no better than what you get premade from Kroger. Schitzel was okay, again nothing special. Kind of expensive too for the quality of food you get.

Love! Love! Love this place! It is my favorite place I've eaten at in Lexington so far. The food is delicious and the prices are very reasonable. The parking is good. The server was friendly and efficient. I had the sausage plate. The pretzel buns are super delicious. The bread wasn't that good, but given the tastiness of everything else and the fact it is free I would let that slide any day. I can't wait to return.

Good place for drinks and pool or darts but the food is mediocre at best have had all the apps not good!

I have eaten German all over the US and this is the best I have had. Food is done well and the service was great. Atmosphere is pleasant. Go eat! Have the Jagerschnitzel.

Great place to drink. Food is very good as well. Best beer selection in Lexington. Nice patio. Pool tables, darts, air hockey, volleyball, and plenty of tvs.

Marikka's rules. Plain and simple. I'd visit far more often if I lived closer. Marikka's has an incredible beer selection. What I love most is their pitcher deals! I can't think of any bars in Lexington aside from Pazzo's that offers pitchers of craft beer. On my last visit I got a pitcher of Stone's Ruination IPA for 10 bucks. Simply cannot be beat. I love you, Marikka's.

Love this place. Great people. Volleyball leagues. However, they don't allow dogs on the patio anymore. :(

  • Mark W.

Pretty cool atmosphere. Volleyball courts, pool tables and dart boards. They actually save the foam from the beer till it settles so they can add it to other pictures of beers to try and save a penny. So u can get hot flat beer. Funniest thing i ever seen. Actually loose money spending all the time doing that instead of waiting on customers faster. Plenty of room of not usually crowded and a huge bottle beer selection.

Great food. Great beer. Great staff. Easily the best beer selection in Lexington. Has a great late night food menu compared to other places. Plenty of dart boards, pool tables and volleyball courts if you are interested in those dort of things.

Best beer selection in KY. I come from Seattle where Budweiser is banned and craft beers rule. This place makes me feel at home again. Love it. Especially like the outdoor patio and volleyball courts. They don't let you take glass pints outside though, and I don't drink beer out of plastic cups (I can own that I'm a beer snob). I also now own about a dozen Marikka's pint glasses since you can buy one to bring outside. I ought to just keep one in my car. Hope to see you there some time.

I have a simple criteria for giving a restaurant a 5-star review. If I were prompted to go to this restaurant again, would I have any hesitation? In the case of Marikka's, I would have no hesitation. First, we order the giant pretzel appetizer with beer cheese. It was the best pretzel I've had in my life. A super thin crispy edge and a soft doughy middle. It paired very well with the beer cheese and German mustard sauces. I had the Schnitzel Sandwich and it was excellent. Perfectly fried pork with pickle and mustard. The fries were average, but everything else I had was superb. I would gladly eat here again.

  • Chris P.

Good food and a great beer selection. They are out of a lot of them though. It's hard to get a seat outside too. Nice service for the most part.

  • Brad C.

Never eaten at the restaurant. Just reviewing the bar. Which is strange. Because I LOVE the bar. Not a big fan of German food. Rocking juke box, great darts, pool, air hockey. This is the spot to go hang out with old friends and drink rare maibocks, dopplebocks, and pretty much any other beer. Love the ambience. The crowd is no-nonsense but inviting. The recent remodel is nice. Order the pretzels. Drink a pitcher. Throw the darts. There are few better ways to spend a rainy afternoon.

Having lived in Germany when I was younger, it was pleasant to hear of such a place here in Lex. I met up with to friends, and the food was good, the prices even better considering the amount of food you get on your plate= a lot! Well worth the value. If you go with a group, get the pretzel. Fair warning it's huge. I stuck with the german mustard and horseradish, make sure they don't 'accidentally' overcharge you $3 unless you get the beer cheese. Every dish I've had there was great, the Jaegerschnitzel and Zigeurnerschnitzel dishes were fantastic! Their pot roast with dumplings was a-okay. I do love the steamed pickled red cabbage. The beer and drink list is extensive, that it can seem overwhelming to one that doesnt drink beer often. Where do I start?! I did even have some German wine, nice. The service is friendly, sometimes I did find we had to wait a bit for drink refills or our check, even when it was not busy. I took my Mom here too, she says it's still not exactly like German food, but hey it's close enough! Head next door the the bier stub (bar) and enjoy some cheap drinks. Cheaper than McCarthy's dare I say? On par.

Outstanding beer selection (fabulous) but food is poor and service was worse. Chasing down bartender to buy a beer and waiting 30 minutes for pretzels is crazy. Sadly, I doubt I'll return and its truly a shame as the potential is incredible.

  • Josh S.

HOLY BEER SELECTION! It felt like I was constently being watched by the door guys and I was acrossed the room from the door, little creapy. I was WARNED not to get the pizza so I didnt even try it. They have 2 sand volleyball courts set up in the back, super nice!

  • Julie B.

Went here with friends from work. The beer selection was incredible, and the menu was full of favorites and things worth trying. The one downside was having to go up to the bar to order food from a table, but the service was fast and friendly! The food was terrific! Looking forward to making this a frequent watering hole.
