This particular Fazoli's on Winslow is the one closest to campus. My review, however, is for all Fazoli's. I used to regularly eat at Fazoli's. The chain started in Lexington as an offshoot from the same company that started Jerry's Restaurants and Long John Silvers. Until a few years ago, Fazoli's locally were clean, bright, and served good, hot food with flavor at inexpensive prices. The chain was known for its garlic breadsticks which an employee would regularly distribute from a basket around the dining room. While not out of this world, Fazoli's original pepperoni pizza was tasty with a good yeasty crust and big bubbles in the crust. The spaghetti and meatballs were tasty too. Alas, the chain seems to have fallen on hard times. Maybe it was the anti-carb diet kick. Originally Fazoli's employed professional chefs in their test kitchen in Lexington to create new dishes. To cut costs, the chain a few years ago fired all or most of the chefs and outsourced the food to a Missouri company to standardize and make more economical to produce. (I knew some Fazoli's employees who told me about this change.) Today, the pizza is a flat cardboard affair with all the texture of a soggy cracker. The overall food quality appears to have gone down. You have to go up to the counter to ask for more breadsticks rather than having them brought to your table. Before the restaurants had glossy, professional menus and posters of fresh foods on the walls. Now the menus look like a menu from a cheap snack bar in KMart. The chain even for awhile abandoned what it was good at -fast, cheap Italian- to serve breakfast coffee and a version of their garlic breadsticks made into sweet breadsticks. Yuck! The smell of garlic in the morning! Fazoli's used to be cheap, fast, quality, and kind of hip. I used to eat there several times a week. Now I may go 1-2 times a year. The spaghetti with meatballs is still good, but the restaurants look shabbier. Even the breadsticks do not taste as good as in the past.

Well. I'm going to have to revise my previous review after frequenting this place over the past month. I'll let you in on the secret of Fazoli's. The secret of Fazoli's is that their plain old pasta with meat/marinara sauce is by far the best thing they serve. Don't ask me why... But the rest of their entrees just don't taste as good. I think there might be something weird with the cheese that they use--most of the "premium" meals come coated in cheese which totally does nothing for the dish except raise the unhealthiness of it. Get the plain pasta with meat sauce, and enjoy. Also, be on the lookout for promotions and coupons. When you can get a couple bucks off, Fazoli's prices become a lot more reasonable, especially when you consider the unlimited breadsticks that come with any entree (sometimes they do breadstick service in the dining room, but they'll give you a couple more if you ask at the counter). Their desserts will satisfy any sweet tooth, especially the seasonal apple cheesecake. Just keep in mind, this place probably won't be the best Italian that you've ever had, but if you get the right coupon, it's well worth the occasional visit.

Unlimited breadsticks when dining in. Good portions and good price for Italian food. Overall good quality if you're craving fast food Italian. The side salad is below average though. But they do have a lot of choices for dressing. Good variety. Hits the spot.

Im disappointed in Fazoli's.I had to stand at a register to order, which is ok.But then I had three problems, the lasagna they brought me was not hot,and to beat it all it was ice cold on one corner,so I guess they make this in advance and keep it cool then microwave it,that has to be the only reason it was cold.Another problem # 2,they were out of unsweetened tea,so I walked up to the front, and politely waited until I noticed the manager,a man,was flirting with a customer, just talking away, unaware of my stress,That was problem # 3,so I said out loud, you are out of tea, unsweetened,he knodded his head at me,I went and sat down,my lasagna was back, hot thank goodness, after 10 minutes had passed,I motioned for a girl that works there, told her about the tea,she said she would have to make some. The manager had even done anything about it

Pasta is alright, but I could eat their breadsticks all day.

The Chicken Submarinos are very good.. Not super spicy and no banana peppers if you like them, but the cheese, chicken breast and bread is pretty good. If you want a quick somewhat italian fast food meal, then try it out.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
