I'm not changing my mind but I am changing my review of Clawdaddy. This is the best lobster roll you will get anywhere near Kentucky. Quality is paramount here, and the food is reliably delicious. The lobster rolls, shrimp rolls, lobster mac & cheese, lobster bisque, lobster BLT...all fabulous, all fresh, and all made with care to emphasize the ingredients, not stretch or hide the good bits. My previous 3-star review was written with the idea that, yes, I've had better, and bigger, lobster rolls in Maine. But since this ISN'T Maine, and Lexington is nowhere near where lobster is plentiful, I am changing my review to reflect that THIS restaurant, in Lexington, is doing things right. Beautiful restaurant, clean and unpretentious, where lobster is the star. To my friends who won't eat here because it is too expensive for what you get, I say this: you won't get lobster this good for a lower price anywhere near Lexington. If you're after a big plate of food at a low price, there are a number of places I could highly recommend, but don't expect lobster to be on their menu.

Pricey, yes, but the crab roll is worth every penny. The most delicious seafood I have ever had in central Kentucky. The owner greets every customer, making you feel like you're a guest in his own kitchen. A Lexington treasure. Don't miss it.

My fiance and I tried this place on a whim this week while he was here for a conference. WE LOVED IT. One or both of us have eaten here everyday for 4 days. The sandwiches are amazing, the staff and owner are very friendly and personable, and the shellfish they serve is fresh and delicious! We also indulged in nowsome imported drinks and whoopie pies. We recommend this to anyone and we will definitely be returning next time we're in the area! And now after reading other people's reviews of this place, I feel like I need to clarify a few things. 1. Shellfish is NOT cheap when you're this far from water. Whatever the juveniles who wrote terrible reviews are expecting, clearly isn't quality seafood. Clawdaddy's is absolutely quality seafood and if you think the price is too high, you're too cheap. 2. This place isn't McDonald's. You're not gonna get a biggie size fry and a big Mac for$6. If your're looking for a big meal, go somewhere else. Don't eat here then trash it because you're used to fast food. With that said, this place is very elegant with elegant and sophisticated portion sizes. If you're not full on what you get, you're overeating. 3. This restaurant is quality over quantity. Their menu isn't very expansive, but what they serve is quality and fresh, and you're not going to find better seafood for the price. I don't normally write reviews but I feel like I need to start when wonderful places are being dogged because people have different expectations. The owner is so personable. You really feel like you're over for dinner in his kitchen and like you've been friends for years. I am not from Lexington, which I consider to be a sizeable city. I'm from a small town and when someone takes the time to be so friendly, that means a lot. I don't particularly enjoy the typical rudeness and fast pace of the city, and this was a refreshing stop. And we also don't normally eat at the same place for four days in a row when we're out of town. That should say a lot in itself. Trust me, if you don't eat here, you're missing out on an epic experience.

Excellent place really enjoyed the food and got to meet the owner a really nice guy!! Fresh seafood!!

Really my biggest gripe is pricing. The place simply is too expensive for what you get. The atmosphere is nice, the decor is great, the location is nice, the staff friendly...but the food is just too highly priced for the amount you receive and the quality. If the portions were larger it would receive 3 or maybe 4 stars, but at this time...2 will be the best I can do.

I don't like to leave a bad review, especially when the girl that works the counter is so sweet. However, there's zero charm and the food isn't worth the high prices. Specifically, I got the lobster BLT roll, for $14 and it was smaller than my hand. The old dude that obviously owns the joint is creepy and needs an intervention from Gordon Ramsey.

It's taken me a long time to think about what I want to write in my review of Clawdaddy's, as it should with any 1-star review I write. A meal here is the biggest ripoff I have ever experienced at a restuarant in Lexington. The worst part was the disappointment in quality of the food. After reading their website and advertisement, and even a few other yelp reviews, I came here expecting a treat. I LOVE lobster rolls and I have been to Maine to experience a real lobster roll. What they serve here is FAR from anything you would get in Maine. Not only is the lobster meat definitely not as fresh as they advertise on their menu, but the rolls are MINUSCULE. A real lobster half-roll is about 4 times the size of what you get here. As you can see in my photos, the size of the half-roll is not much bigger than the length of a slice of lemon. The second worse part of the experience was the price. I ordered the sampler roll which was 3 half-rolls, and a lobster bisque soup. I didn't even get a drink, and that was just under $30, for one person. Oh, and how was the bisque? Terrible. It wasn't even hot! My date ordered the same soup and since they were at the end of the pot they had to microwave his bowl. We ordered the same size, but were served in two different looking bowls. There was a tiny pinch of lobster meat on top on the bisque, next to none in it. It's disappointing, this place has a lot of potential because of its location and super cute and trendy interior, but I absolutely won't be back. I'm actually quite shocked they are still in business.

My daughter, a huge lobster fan, enjoyed the lobster roll from here. It is modest in size, and expensive, but she appreciated that it was all lobster meat with no filler. The bun was very good. Slaw is so-so. And don't get the lemonaide. But the main feature - lobster - rocked.

The Good: the interior and outdoor seating, the music, the food, the lobster Mac and cheese, drink selection, fresh bread from Sunshine Bakery. The Bad: lack of variety in style with the menu. The Rundown: before I write this I need you to be aware I have never had a lobster roll before today. That being said I really enjoyed their food. It tasted really fresh, they have decent portion sizes, and it has a nice buttery taste. Their menu is very simple, shrimp, crab, or lobster on a roll. There you have it. While I can appreciate this straight forward approach to what I would perceive as being a classic lobster roll, it would be nice to have a few flavoring options. Maybe some coleslaw on the roll, or peppers, some melted cheese and have like a lobster thermadore roll. Another thing that would be nice is some type of hot sauce for the table, that could just be me though, I love hot sauce on everything. Their lobster Mac and cheese has a lot of huge pieces of lobster and it was amazing. The Impression: I will definitely come back. The food is great but lacks a little sophistication, maybe adding some truffle oil as an option. If you want straight forward lobster rolls here is where you should go.

The Lobster Roll, crab and shrimp rolls were AMAZING!! However. I felt deceived by the online menu I read at LexEatIn.com . I had no idea how small these rolls would be. And were it not for spending nearly 30 bucks for 4 half rolls (expecting that they would be much larger than they were) I would give them 5 stars. ($19 for the sampler of a half roll of lobster, shrimp crab, $8 for an extra half lobster roll) The half rolls were about the size of a White Castle slider. Yes. They were all beyond delicious. The bread was so buttery and flaky. But not sure I'd be willing to spend that much again for it. What a shame. They were really. Really. Really good.

Positives: Lobster Mac N Cheese makes you want to cry it's so creamy and rich. There is a buttery chunk of lobster in every bite and is baked with a super crispy topping, makes for a hearty meal. Bread they use for their rolls are from a local bakery and you can tell! It's not the normal creamy lobster roll so for those of you that aren't big mayo lovers, this will be perfect for you. Negatives: Price point is a bit steep for grabbing lunch but it's not a burger you're ordering, it's fresh LOBSTER! Keep that in mind when looking at prices. Shrimp roll wasn't the best but I generally spring for crab or lobster before shrimp (unless it's fried). No backs on chairs can be a little uncomfy. The Vibe: Well we got to meet the owner and he said' "There are two rules we live by here, 1. The customer is always right and 2. If they happen to be wrong, refer to #1." That kind of service can be hard to find, especially downtown. It's a unique type of food that you don't normally get in Lexington and is definitely worth a try. We are coming back for that Mac n Cheese!

I have to say I was very disappointed. I had the lobster bisque and the lobster roll. The bisque was just a cream that was on a hot plate with a tiny portion of lobster in it, really really tiny. The lobster roll was not terrible but again was a small portion for the price. My meal came to around $30 and I left somewhat hungry still. I've had lobster roll in Maine which I loved and thought was very much worth the price; this, however, was a very poor imitation.

I just can't recommend this place. The food is of decent quality, but the portion sizes are tiny compared to the high prices. I went there for lunch earlier this week. I had the cheapest meal on their menu, which was a shrimp roll, cole slaw and a cup of tea. While the food itself was tasty, I left the place distinctly still hungry and unsatisfied. I don't have a voracious, huge appetite either. The roll was about the size of a large hot dog bun, with some boiled and seasoned shrimp in it. The cole slaw was pretty good, but not enough to redeem everything else. Paying $10.60 for a meal that my stomach is still growling about when I leave and I start prowling for something else to grab on the rest of my lunch hour was not an experience I'm anxious to repeat. You know something is up when it's 11:30 AM on a weekday and a restaurant in downtown Lexington is empty and I'm the only customer there the entire time. From when I walked in, until when I left there wasn't another customer who so much as walked in. I suspect word of this place costing a lot for giving a little is getting out. The quality of the food itself is not in question. It's tasty and fresh and the actual restaurant is clean and the service was good. Ultimately though, I can't recommend any place I walk away from where my first thought as I'm heading out the door is "where am I going to get something else?"

  • Courtney C.

Yes, the servings are small but the lobster is delicious. Yes, the price point is a little higher than one would expect compared with the serving size but it's lobster, people! I visited here during a work trip to the area. A colleague and I grabbed the original lobster roll and really enjoyed it. It was a delicious treat and we didn't regret our decisions. Its probably not the type of place that you would go to every day but its a good treat and super cute place.

We walked in 15 minutes to closing. Both guys behind the counter were very friendly and helpful anyway. They made the sandwiches with care. It was cool to see someone treat their job like they care about it. The portions are small and the food is pricey. Bit it is shellfish so you shouldn't be too surprised. We got the shell fish extravaganza. Two half sandwiches of each that we shared. Shrimp, crab and lobster. All tasted fresh and the bread was awesome. Locally baked. Could have used a bit more old bay but I just like spicy stuff. Sharp looking decor. Worth a try for sure. We will be back.

I regret I cannot give this place five stars. For quality and freshness 5. For flavor 3. For decor and cleanliness 5. But for price.. 3. $24 for only a lobster roll and an 8-oz cup of soup. Yikes!! It certainly is the novelty but not a place you would frequent for lunch. Perhaps if they lowered the price it wouldn't be almost empty at lunch time. I do appreciate that they do not use fillers and additives (I'm allergic to celery) but a little more flavor when they cook the lobster would be nice. The New England Clam Chowder was nice but not spectacular. I tried it and I had my lobster fix, but next time I'll wait until I'm back in Maine were I can get a much larger roll for a lower price.

4-stars yelp?? Really? Oh man... I sure hope I just went on a really, really .... REALLY ... off day... The store was clean, but no one there on a weekday evening. Probably should have taken it as a sign... Ordered two items: 1) Shellfish Sample - consists of a half lobster, half crab, and half shrimp roll In additional, they provide a side of either chips or coleslaw. ($18) 2) Lobster Bisque - supposedly what they are 'well known' for. ($8) First off, I have to admit that I lowered my expectations going into this place already. As other Yelpers have noted, Kentucky is landlocked so getting seafood here takes a bit more work. For the close to the $30 that they charged, I definitely expected 'fresh' seafood ... which, of course, was their claim. I was honestly looking forward to a delicious meal, even if the portions are small. Lobster bisque was nothing more than some pre-cooked cream that sits on a hot plate. Upon order, the staff take a small piece of lobster (about the size comparable to your index finger), cuts it up into tiny pieces and adds this to the cream. For $8, I would at least expect a full claw, much less a lot more flavor instead of just sludge. (Score: 2/5) Now for the rolls... I can't knock them for EVERYTHING.... the BREAD was fresh and pretty good! That's about it though... Shrimp roll had the most flavor, however it was not of shrimp - the seasoning that they sprinkled on top of the roll was what I was tasting. (Score: 2/5) Crab roll was the least fresh; now crab has a very distinct flavor to it, and none of it was present. Crab was clearly not fresh, and likely to have been frozen and defrosted in a bucket of water, which would sap all the flavor out of the meat. (Score: 2/5) Lobster roll, ah the claim to fame of this place! I will give them this: at least I could taste the lobster on this one. However, the lobster was FAR from fresh, which is what they claim and are able to charge extraordinary prices for tiny portions (I'm not opposed to the small portions, just wanted they to claim something that was true). (Score: 2/5) Sad to say, Clawdaddy's OVERWHELMINGLY disappointed. As a visitor of Lexington, I have to say that this place is definitely not worth the visit if you happen to be in the area. This may be one of the few locations a local may get "fresh" (and I must explicitly emphasize the quotes) Maine seafood. Last note, this place had so much potential, charges the high prices, but fails to deliver on their claims. I cannot, in good faith, give this place more than 2-stars: Meh! I've experienced better. MUCH better.

We stopped by yesterday to grab dinner to go. When we walked in we were the only ones there. The young lady amd man at the counter greeted us as soon as we walked in the door. The lobster rolls were phenomenal. Chunks of fresh lobster on a lightly toasted bun. I'm going to try the shrimp and crab! The mini blueberry homemade pies are definitely big enough for two. We will be back to have a Maine craft beer next time!

  • J E.

My husband and I went here for lunch, and there was no one there. I thought this was a bad sign. The man at the register told us about the way everything is prepared and then we ordered. I got the crab roll and my husband got the lobster roll. When I tell you that this food was amazing, I am not kidding! When we got back home, we tried to make our own. I only have one bad thing to say. The prices were a little high for what you get, but you have to remember that the nearest ocean is pretty far away from Lexington. It's definitely worth trying if you want a guilt free lunch.

  • Billie D.

extremely overpriced!!! 1/2 a roll was, no kidding, 3 inches long! we had three 1/2 crab rolls and one shrimp roll with chips and a drink. $60!!!! will not eat here again!!!

  • Chris W.

I've had lobster bisque many places, this was probably the worst. Tasted more like a fish bisque with a couple little pieces of lobster in

    (1)
  • Michael G.

This was pretty bad. Chewy and tough, overly mayonaise-sauced or something too. It was a while ago; I haven't gone back; I'm trying not to remember.

    (2)
  • Megan M.

Awful! I went once and was thoroughly disappointed in the quality of food. I know we don't live near the sea but I would expect for the price that the lobster roll would sort of taste like lobster...guess I've been to New England and New Orleans too many times and have high expectations

    (1)
  • Ashley M.

Delish! All shellfish is shipped in from Maine and bread is purchased locally. I'm definitely going to be a return customer!

  • Scott W.

The reviews here are correct, the portions are small... Very small. I can appreciate that the employees were friendly enough and that the restaurant is very clean, but the prices and portion sizes are a giant hurdle for this business. We arrived around 6:00 PM and were the only customers for the duration of our meal. The sampler was good, not mind-blowing as you would expect given the establishment's claims for authenticity and freshness. The bisque was also decent, again not Earth shattering by any account. These two choices along with a half roll and a tiny cup of craft beer totaled ~$50. If the food quality could justify the rather expensive tab, I wouldnt necessarily mind. As it is, I can't recommend it. If you want to give it a go just to see for yourself, be forewarned the portions are small and the resulting sticker shock may leave you with bad taste.

  • Jeff R.

I hate to write a bad review for someone who is trying to do something unique here with fresh ingredients. But I was disappointed. Very small sandwich, under-seasoned, lobster may have been a bit off. For a $16 sandwich - no matter how expensive the ingredients are - you have to do a lot more. Reduce the fancy to go packaging, and focus more on the food. No one was in the place when I got my order - on a UK game day. That's a sign.

  • Lamin S.

Ordered a half lobster roll, thinking a full roll was going to be huge; the half roll was like a appetizer sized roll. Lobster meat is fresh & tender though disappointed in portion size for price (9$). Steady dinner time flow. Staff was courteous and the franchisee was present greeting customers (nice touch!) Don't know if Clawdaddy's is worth a return visit. Guess I have to wait til the next trip to New England for another lobster roll!

I really appreciate the concept of bringing lobster rolls to Lexington, but I ate lunch there today and I will not go back. The portions are rather small for the exorbitant pricing. Maybe I went on a bad day, but I thought the lobster roll was pretty bad. The roll had a good portion of lobster, but was very mediocre in flavor. As I mentioned, the roll was pretty small in comparison to what I've experienced. The coleslaw was pretty generic. The redeeming feature of the meal was the pickle, as sad as that is. In summary, for a $19 lunch, I would have rather had 19 dollar menu items...

This is a fantastic new restaurant with excellent food. My wife and I have eaten here multiple times and each time we are satisfied with the service and the quality of the food. Yes the portion's are smaller than your value menu burger but if you complain about that, its likely you need those smaller sizes (hint hint). For those who complain about the price, it is pricey--but its lobster. Kentucky is land locked so it seems obvious that for quality lobster, you have to pay. For those who prefer discounted lobster rolls in Kentucky, I suggest making your own using pre-cooked lobster available at Kroger. Also, they might just have the greatest quality plasticware of any restaurant I have ever been to. Pointless? Maybe. Awesome? Yes.

  • D S.

Fresh yummy seafood! Limited menu which is likely why it's so fresh. May be a bit pricey but for fresh seafood (in Lexington) without fillers, it's probably about right. My 7 year old loves it, too.

  • Laurin D.

    Lobster bisque is excellent

    (5)
  • Sarah W.

Really fresh perfectly steamed lobster. Nice chewy bounce to each bite. The lobster bisque had a great body and flavor but could use more lobster bits. Bread on lobster roll was perfectly toasted. Yes the portions are not ginormorous, about the size of a large hot dog roll for the full size, but what can you expect we're landlocked. Definitely a must try.

  • Doug O.

Great Clam Chowder!! Lobster Roll was a new experience for me - no filler nothing but fresh lobster. Very tasty. "Fresh" lobster is all about texture - and this place obviously understands that fact. A little pricey but worth the money in my opinion. If you're in the mood for tons of food - go to red lobster and wear one of those bib things. I really appreciate what these guys are doing here. Nice to know we got a little joint like this in Lexington.

  • Megan M.

This place was incredibly underwhelming. I was really looking forward to having a great lobster roll in Lexington since all the ones I've had have been in NYC or New Orleans...I was greatly disappointed. The location and idea is great; interior is cute, but the price and the quality of food is very under par. Too bad!

    (1)
  • Betty H.

Super fresh lobster rolls!! Shared the shellfish extravaganza and was able to try the lobster, shrimp and crab. It was more than enough for two people.

  • Thom W.

Great, fresh lobster roll and I don't mean sushi. If you have never been to the northeast you are probably unfamiliar with this. Yes, the lobster roll is pricey but it is well worth it. I ordered the combo which had a half lobster, crab and shrimp roll. We met the owner while we were there and he was insistent that our experience be perfect which made me feel important and give this place five stars. If you have a hard time justifying the price for a fast casual restaurant just think that you don't have to leave a tip but that you got sit down restaurant quality food.

  • Kate G.

I thought this place was a solid performer, but nothing spectacular. I've never had a lobster roll before, so my opinion is limited in that regard. However, I would imagine that a lobster roll would be a bit more flavorful than these were. I tried the lobster roll and crab roll. Both were very fresh, great quality shellfish, but were lacking in flavor. I appreciate the lack of fillers, however, I think it needed just a little something in the way of the seasoning. The lobster bisque was very good.

Worth every penny! My colleagues and I walked to Clawdaddy's for lunch today and it was worth every penny. I had a 1/2 lobster roll and 1/2 shrimp roll and coleslaw. The shrimp was my favorite! Everything was very fresh and well prepared. They were offering Lobster Gazpacho which one of my colleagues had along with the 1/2 crab. She said it too was very good We finished off our meal with one whoopie pie and a blueberry pie. These were so fresh and also very good. The four of us walked away very full and happy! The service was excellent and the owner was very personable too! We will definitely be back!

  • Ashley L.

I was super excited to try this new restaurant because we don't have anything else like it in Lexington! I expected to come in and get a lobster roll and a drink for $10 or so for lunch. Not the case. I walked out having spent $20 on lunch and it was just okay. Way too pricey for a lunch place if you ask me. Great concept but in order to get the lunch crowd, they would have to come down on prices in my opinion.

  • Q H.

This place is LEGIT. Having lived in Boston and being close to the shore for most of my life, I am so glad that Lexington finally has a decent lobster roll shack. They don't skimp on the filling, and a lobster roll will be much more lobster than roll. Everything is delicious, tasteful, and well prepared. Eat here! It's awesome. Don't let the one bad review fool you -- most Lexingtonians are the red lobster variety of seafood lovers, meaning they'll love anything so long as it makes them so full they can barely breathe. This is the real deal: all seafood flown from Maine, done just the way it is up north, meaning quality versus quantity. It's lobster. You want cheap? Then you don't want lobster...

  • Randy A.

The food was nothing special and, for the price, no thanks.

    (1)
  • Pea R.

So thrilled to see a real piece of seafood, let alone fresh, not frozen lobster. The lobster roll is not cut with tons of mayo and celery. What a hoot to see a whoppie pie there as well. My food was good and considering that it was pre picked in it's home state and arrived on a plane and is served by wonderful employees in a nicely decorated environment whose lease isn't cheap fairly priced. Hope against hope it succeeds. Here is the rub. The prices are more than support personnel working downtown will pay very often. The big business people downtown entertaining a client will probably go to a sit down with drinks and a bit more privacy. Wish it was at the mall which has a huge traffic, parking and a large cross section of folks passing through. I will continue to go and enjoy every bite and encourage anyone who loves lobster and crab to go go go and enjoy. Would love to see some salads to "flesh" out the meal.

First thing's first: yes, it's pricey and the portions are small, especially for Lexington. It's what has kept me from checking the place out until now. But it's really, really good. I got the shrimp roll and my husband got the lobster and we both were very satisfied. The cole slaw was excellent too. It's not a place I would go often, just because we can't afford it, but I don't feel cheated. It's high-quality food prepared well, and I don't mind paying extra for that when I can. Unfortunately, many Lexingtonians are used to getting a trough full of food for $10, so spending a lot on a small, not-too-fancy meal is going to be difficult. And I can't fault anyone who wants to feel like they got a hearty meal for their money. But I hope Clawdaddy's is able to find a niche and stick around, because I would like to go back someday!

  • Mary P.

This is a real treat if you love shellfish. I usually remove the bread when I eat crab or lobster on a roll but not here- the bread is also wonderful as is the cole slaw. It is a little pricy but worth every penny.

  • Kelsey S.

The lobster roll was yummy, my fiancé had the shrimp roll and enjoyed it. Both rolls were predominantly shellfish, no filler, which is great! Rolls are small though, that's why I have a 3/5. Best bet is to go here and order the Down East Shore Dinner to get variety and feel fulfilled in the end. Whoopie pies are good -- they even have a carrot cake with cream cheese filling one :)

  • Tim S.

Got the lobster, shrimp, and crab roll sampler. The small portion size and high price were not a good value. The crab roll was by far the best, the lobster was a little disappointing, and the shrimp was only so-so. The slaw wasn't as crispy as I would have hoped and was weighed down with too much dressing. The restaurant was very clean and had a cool, modern design. The place was nearly empty at the height of the Friday lunch rush, so I hope they make it. Glad I tried it, prolly won't be coming back though.

The seafood is amaaaazing!! We are in KY and the owner is adamant about getting fresh seafood to us!!! It definitely shows!! The seafood taste fresh and needs no extra additives! As far as portion size, it is PERFECT! It's worth the money of you appreciate good cuisine and the effort that it takes to get it here! Thank you for this "clawdaddy's" !! I'm very happy!

This place is right smack in the middle of Broadway, and so I definitely recommend sitting outside so you can enjoy the view! The portions are really tiny, but the food is so good you don't really notice. I went to lunch here today with a friend. She got the half crab roll and I got a half lobster, they were both delicious and tasted very fresh. The prices aren't outrageous, but don't expect a large meal or anything. The restaurant is really nice inside, and the staff is friendly.

The food is wonderful. Owner is on site and hands on, a real pro. Restaurant is clean and nice. You get quality and you should expect to pay for it.
