Normally I'm not a soup and sandwich type of gal, but I was in the area and wanted to try something new. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a nice man working by himself for the evening. At first I was the only person there but about ten more people arrived during my stay of about thirty minutes. They have a few salad options that I considered, but since they are known for their soups, I decided on a small soup and whole grilled cheese. The Wednesday soup of the day is crab soup, if you love crab and cream cheese, you will love it. You can try as many soups as you want, but I was steering clear of tomatoes. Up next I tried the white chicken chili. I decided to order the white chicken chili, which was good but a bit less than what I would call warm. I couldn't really tell that from the small sample... oh well. After I paid, he served me my soup and then made my grilled cheese sandwich. The grilled cheese sandwich had a strange, almost soggy consistency. I will say that there was plenty of cheese on it though. I was tempted to ask him how much cheese he put on it, but I didn't want him to think that it was a bad thing. I couldn't finish the whole sandwich, so a half sandwich combo would've been plenty. Oh well, it was good as leftover for my lunch today. I will say that that it's comparable to Dad's and I actually prefer Soup Kitchen over Dad's.

One of my new lunch spots for those days I don't pack a lunch to bring to work with me. I really enjoy a good hearty soup. After reading some of the older reviews, I was a bit worried about the flavor of food here but the ones I have tried so far were really good. I heard from one of my friends that their cornbread is really good but I haven't tried any of their breads or sandwiches myself. I have been getting the TSK Souper Spud, which is basically a soup of your choice poured over a baked potato. Who knew it would be so tasty?!?!! The place isn't anything fancy but has some of the friendliest people working there. I overheard them explain to another customer that customers can purchase a loaf of bread of their choice if they give TSK a 24-hour notice. I might have to do that!

I returned here for lunch today and remembered why I quit going. While the soup is pretty good and the accompanying grilled cheese is good, I just don't care for the apathetic, "don't give a damn" staff I've encountered. I'm sure some of the folks who work there are perfectly helpful. I just haven't come across them yet. Today I ordered vegetable soup and a grilled cheese. I am not exaggerating when I say that the soup was not even close to warm. When I returned the soup to the counter and said pretty much what I just wrote in this review, I didn't get so much as a simple I'm sorry. The gal grabbed the soup out of my hand and slammed it into the microwave. I was then told rudely to "sit back down." When she returned the soup to the table, it was indeed hot, but she had an attitude that was really uncalled for. Mistakes happen, I get that, but I cannot accept being treated rudely for requesting that the soup I ordered and paid for be served hot. Again, the food is fine -- good, even -- but they really need to lose the 'tude if they want to keep my business.

The soup kitchen is a good alternative to Pannera and Atlanta Bread. I had the tomato basil soup and 1/2 tuna salad on cheddar bread, and while it wasn't spectacular, it was a perfectly fine and satisfying lunch at a reasonable price. The bread was fresh, and the small soup was good size. The staff was friendly, helpful and quick to serve.

Like other reviewers, I wanted to like The Soup Kitchen. I REALLY really did. Ask any one whose had more than a few lunches with me and they'll tell you I'm a soup fanatic. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, I fiend for some soup. For this reason, I must give The Soup Kitchen 2 stars. Props for creating a restaurant centered around soup and even ladling up some out of the box (in theory) slurps. But this is the kind of place where if you don't slurp in public you're a little out of place and the flavoring of the soup matches the slurp it up quickly mentality. It's just pretty blah and bland. This is the kind of place why people don't understand the magic of a myriad of flavors that a good soup cooks up. If you go here, just fill up on the Mexican cornbread. Tasty and cheap! I'd consider going back to buy that and make my own chilli at home.

Crab soup was spectacular! And the grilled cheese sandwich was perfect. The staff was friendly. I really like the open kitchen.

Fantastic food and great service! All the soups and breads are made fresh. I never had a bad anything there. My favorite so far was the pirate stew, a gumbo made with tons of crab and clams. They make a brown bread that is dense but soft, slightly sweet and is what I get every sandwich built on. Desserts are also made in house. I have always been too full from the soup and sandwich, but they look great.

Had high hopes for this one, it would be nice to have a good soup and sandwich place around this area. However, the soup, sandwiches, value, and timeliness were disappointing. Went around 1pm on a chilly weekday, a perfect day for a warm bowl of soup. Got the daily special, 3 cheese grilled cheese and tomato bisque and chili. In honor of Seinfeld (read: Seinfeld sitcom Soup Nazi episode), the taste of this sandwich was about nothing. There was no flavor to the sandwich, no bread flavor, no cheese flavor, no butter flavor, nothing, very bland. The chili was tomatoey, but lacked any chili flavoring or seasoning. Tomato bisque was creamy and tomato flavored, although if it was homemade it didn't taste any different from pre-made soups at other restaurants. We received our soup immediately, although waited for our sandwiches for about fifteen minutes. The total was $18 for two soup and sandwich specials and one soda, so the value wasn't there.

Excellent soup, good variety and changes daily. Carry-out or eat-in. Grilled cheeses are very tasty. Prices are reasonable for lunch or dinner. Sizable portions. Restaurant is clean, and service is given with a smile. The only downside for me is that their business hours put them outside of the hours that I would like to eat there, so I only recently got to try it. If they were open even one or two hours later I would eat there on a weekly basis for dinner.

I tried this place because of a sweetjack coupon, and it was very disappointing. I think the concept is great, but it has to be backed up with good execution. They claim to use fresh ingredients, but they use processed food in their soups. The sandwiches were dry and about 90% thick and heavy bread. And the service was awful; nobody even greeted us when we went in, and we stood there for several minutes next to the counter before one of the three people immediately behind it looked up and asked for our order. Not even good value with a coupon.

This place is really good and tends to have a variety of food to choose from. The service has really improved as the two guys who work in the evenings now are spectacular! They always give nice portions and great suggestions. I definitely recommend the chicken salad sandwich on the brown bread. The wild rice chicken, bacon cheddar, potato, and chili are all great soups as well. Plus, they alternate and have new soups all the time so there's always something new to try.

"Not what I expected. The tomato bisque was "sweet" according to my wife. The chili was tasty. I just couldn't get past the pork-n-beans in it. The sandwich was fresh. A hulk of a sandwich. The brown bread was good. It was nice to try a different place to eat...."

I love soup so I decided to try The Soup Kitchen the other day. All the reviews on here recommend the grilled cheese so I gave it a shot. It was pretty subpar. The bread was almost a soggy texture when biting into it. The soup was mediocre as well. All in all, I could have made a better grilled cheese at home and saved money.

A great place to eat especially in the winter as they offer a variety of soups every day. I usually get a small soup and half sandwich combo. My favorite is the vegetable soup and turkey sandwich on brown bread. Their brown bread is absolutely delicious!! I haven't even tried the other bread options because I don't want to miss a an opportunity to eat the brown bread. If you don't mind the calories get the snow crab soup if it's on the menu when you go.

I've really tried to like the Soup Kitchen. I've tried the chili and most recently the tomato basil soup. Basically I've made better at home. I tried my husband's Burgundy mushroom soup and it had no flavor whatsoever. He had to add copious amounts of salt just to be able to eat it. Now for something positive. We also had the grilled cheese sandwich on our last visit and it was quite good. The bread had a great texture. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with plenty of cheese. For the price, about $20 for two people (2 soups, 2 sandwiches, 2 drinks) I expect a little more than what we got.

Well the Girlfriend and I went back for another rainy day dinner, and this time it was well before closing. In short, this is a solid 4 star restaurant in my book. This time I went with the Little Italy, which combined a lot of Italian flavors and various Italian noodles. And the bread is always solid. In fact I think this might be my favorite part of the restaurant. I like the bread so much, because it is both filling and cheap, that I have yet to try the sandwiches. Not to dish on the sandwiches, but the bread is so good and with a large soup it is rather filling, and all for around 5 bucks or so. So if you are looking for a nice dinner or lunch that really hits the comfort zone without breaking the bank, then this is your place.

they close at 8. I was pushing it and pulled up outside the door at 7:50 last night but I wanted chili, what can I say. I wanted something for lunch that was hearty but not fast food. Soup Kitchen hit the spot. I had the half-sandwich and small soup combo with the grape-pecan chicken salad and French onion soup. The sandwich was rather bland (some tarragon or curry would have been great), and the amount of chicken salad was scanty. But the soup was great! It was under-salted, which I appreciated since most French onion soups are the opposite, and it's much easier to just add some salt yourself. Generous amounts of cheese and croutons to boot. Sure it wasn't the most complex soup I've ever had, but this isn't Le Deauville. I would definitely order it again. My friend had the white chicken chili which he said was amazing. I will certainly be back to try the other soups.
