I followed the waitress' recommendation and ordered the gyro nachos. The meat and toppings were all good but fried pita bread does not work as the chips. They are too thick, tough, and chewy. I just thought it was a terrible idea for a dish and was confused that that was what was recommended. My wife had fish sandwich and said it was nothing special. Service wasn't great. Waitress was a teenager and her phone started going off while taking our order. One time and it's a little comical. Second time it happens when she's bringing the food and you're now certain she just doesn't care anymore. What really had the wife and I talking was the location/decor. The inside is really nice. Very open layout with vaulted ceilings and nice big booths. It feels like a nice restaurant but then they have all of these markings of a diner like having the waitress station with the drink machine out in the open, cheap condiment holder on the table, the style of plates, etc. The sign sort of leads you to think it's a greek restaurant but it's more like a diner with a little greek food. Most of the decorations on the walls are more rustic/southern but then there are two pictures of Greece. The place just seems really unsure of what exactly it is.

Angelo's has a pretty simple menu with good food. My wife and I each had the gyro dinner and it is a lot of food. The kids had cheeseburgers with fries and both enjoyed it, but neither were able to eat it all. I had a bite if the burger and it was pretty good for a kids dinner. The gyro meat was good and flavorful, the wife couldn't eat it all and brought about half of it home. One of our friends had a double decker sandwich and it was huge! They don't have their liquor license yet but we were told any day now. They've only been open 5 days and seem to be running smooth. I do think they could be a good spot once they can open the bar, but they'd need to be open later than 10pm.

Independence is a nice little town and so is this restaurant. It says Family restaurant and it was just that. Lots of families having dinner there tonight. Lots of clean lines and warm colors. Greeted by an employee opening the door for us. Greeted as we walked in. Greeted by the hostess who seated us. Greeted by the server who did everything perfect. Relaxing feel. Nice big aquarium. Occasional child shreek...oh well, it is a family restaurant. They bring bread and butter while you wait. See pic:) I got the garlic sauced wings and ranch. 12 wings for $7. Wow, after six I was full. Very moist, meaty, and deliciously sauced. Great deal for sure. Too full to try the ice cream station, so that's on my list for next time. We really enjoyed our experience. We'll be back.

Great family-owned restaurant in Independence. Service staff is warm and welcoming and the food is great. Gyros are a personal favorite, but today I went with the chicken salad: generous portion, with fresh veggies. I'll be back ASAP!

Meat-tastic! This is a great place to add to the up and coming Independence dining scene. Housed in the old courthouse restaurant, Angelo's is spacious and clean with a cheery vibe. My gyro was perfect. Lots of succulent meat and great sauce. I would have liked a touch more cucumber in the sauce, but it's hard to complain when the sandwich was one of the best gyros I have ever tasted. The bathrooms were in good repair and relatively clean (the restaurant was packed when I was there, so I was surprised how clean the bathrooms were). It would be nice to have more Greek food on the menu, but I can understand how the American choices will help the restaurant to stay in business here. Good business plan, guys! Overall, my son and I had a great time. The food was fantastic and the waitstaff were charming.

Great service. Food not so great. I had a gyro and fries, the DH the fish and chips special, it came with coleslaw and soup for 10.50. The coleslaw was good, potato soup was ok, DH said it tasted like it was from a can. The fish wasn't good at all, the fries were under cooked. Gyro meat was ok, the pita seemed stale. The tzatziki sauce tasted like sour cream. There wasn't even a hint of dill in it. Yes the tables are crazy low, they need to take the booths down about five inches or the tables up that much. I wanted to love this place I really did. Independence need some place decent to eat, sadly we still don't have one good place to eat. I will say they have really good service, our waitress was the best, knew exactly when to come and when to go. Our meal total was $26.90 we both had a beer.

I went to Angelo's on a Friday afternoon. I ordered 2 gyros extra thin and extra crispy, 2 fries, and 2 baklavas. Tzaziki Sauce was wonderful. Gyros were cooked perfectly. Fries were enough for 4 adults. Baklava was juicy and crispy on top and filled with a tasty filling and dripping with honey. It wasnt crowded. Carryout only took about 10 minutes. Service was quick and friendly. So nice to have some wonderful Greek food in downtown Independence ky. Think they had a rocky start based on some reviews, but i will be back to enjoy more delicious food. Hope they stick around.

I tried Angelo's for the third time today. We visited in the past and left fairly unsatisfied and under-wowed. My hope was that at lunch there might be better food and service. I am a gyro enthusiast so I thought let's try one more time. I do like their meat and that is the core of a good gyro. However, today the place had three tables when I walked in, all eating. I ordered a gyro sandwich and a water. Waited a bit for something that takes minimal time to prepare because the meat is usually on a vertical electric grill. The Gyro came out full and with a large side of their tzatziki (their sauce is mediocre). Both the bread and the meat were lukewarm. Never was I asked about my meal. Today will be my last visit.

It has been a while since I have been this disappointed with a restaurant. My wife and I decided to try Angelo's Family Restaurant in Independence, KY for our weekly date night. Our first disappointment was seeing that a restaurant that supposedly had a Greek influence had so few Greek dishes on their menu. We started off with the Greek pizza for an appetizer. We'll never know if it is any good since the pizza never arrived. The wife had ordered the Gyro dinner and, since it was on special, I ordered the prime rib. When our food arrived the Gyro meat was cold and the prime rib, which was ordered medium-rare, was medium to well done at best. The Greek salad was an embarrassment. The only high points of the meal were the fresh bread before the meal and the beer. Its hard to screw up beer. I would tell you how dessert was, but since we were never offered dessert we will never know. We would have done better if we had thrown the $45 we spent on the meal in the trash and gone to McDonald's.

Service was extremely slow. It took 35 minutes to get our food and we got nothing special. How long does it take to fry a burger and make a gyro? The bill came quickly after our food. I don't think we had our food for 5 minutes, when we were handed the bill. Food was o.k. Nothing exceptional. Prices were fair. The whole bill for 2 of us, not including tip was $15.00. If you go, be prepared to wait a long time for your food. I don't think we will be going back in the near future.

All to often you have to choose between a Mom & Pop restaurant with great food, at the price of a sketchy facility, or bland, boring food in a nice clean place. With Angelo's you get the best of both worlds. Great atmosphere in this nice, clean, renovated facility with food that is out of this world. Great weekend breakfasts, as well as a wide variety of exceptional lunch and dinner choices. I haven't seen double decker's this big since the Red Squirrel first opened and the turkey and roast beef are roasted and sliced on site rather than processed deli slices. Love the soups too. This is my new favorite restaurant. Even better now that they have the patio open.

Have not had a bad meal yet! The gyros are especially delicious and they have a good selection of choices. Will definitely go back!

Gyros are generally defined by the sauce, since everyone uses the same meat purveyor. Angelo's is very good. The menu is simple, but well done. I have had very good service when here, so maybe it has improved since the other reviewers have visited. I highly recommend this place.

Had lunch with one other person. She had a burger, it was large and she said it was good. I got the special, a Rib eye sandwich with fries and slaw. The slaw was right out of the bucket, nothing special typical food service slaw. Fries were not great, not bad typical fries. The sandwich was a thin ribeye, cooked well done with no seasoning and of course being cooked well, not much flavor. Grilled onions and mushrooms added some flavor. The bread it was on was fresh. Some seasoning on the meat prior to cooking, some mayo or cheese would have helped a lot. Lunch was ok, nothing special and a bit pricey for what it was. Restaurant was clean. Waitress was polite and efficient. We did wait for about five minutes before anyone seated us, which would be ok except their were only 4 other customers in the place.

What a great restaurant and addition to Independence! Angelo's is a family-style restaurant located in a former restaurant / bar. Beyond a few opening day kinks to be expected with any new business that has been opened less than two months, the restaurant is a wonderful place to visit - and a place I have been many, many times. The menu includes a wide variety. The Prime Rib is excellent, yet not traditionally prepared as other area restaurants may serve. The gyro's are as good as any other local restaurant and I find the sauce to be better for my tastes. The desserts are delicious! Pricing is fair. Portions? I typically leave with a "to go" box because of the extra food left on my plate. All dinner entree's (I'm pretty sure) come with a free cup of soup of which I believe is all handmade by Angelo himself. Wait staff is young and 'green' yet helpful and cheery. I had a complaint once and it was taken care of quickly without question. To the one poster that states the building looks like a bank. Due to deed restrictions in the development, all the buildings are required to have similar design components. Even the Skyline next door as well as the firehouse have the same roof and roof features. The location first opened was called the "Courthouse" and was a restaurant with a bar in the middle. To provide a family like atmosphere, Angelo's elected to move the bar to the side room so that doors can be closed and family's can eat in peace. To the other person that stated that there were no TV's. Well boo-boo-hoo. Turn off the technology once in awhile and have a conversation with the person sitting across from you. Want TV's to watch, then go into the bar or find another sports bar / restaurant to catch up on your latest reality TV series.

Great food. I had the double decker sandwich and it was enormous. All others in our party enjoyed the food as well. We will be back.

Sorry to hear that they recently closed. They couldn't afford the $5k mo rent. No surprise there. We loved that place !! What a shame!!

Greeted and seated right away on a Monday night. Ordered liver & onions and husband ordered the roast beef dinner. Both were nice large portions and came with mashed potatoes, cup of soup and one other side (we chose slaw). Everything was great tasting with lots of homemade bread. I ordered a glass of Merlot and it was a very healthy pour. The liquor prices looked very reasonable as did all the prices esp for the portion. We will be back.

We ate here one night and loved it! This is a brand new restaurant and we thought we would give it a try. Both the Gyro sandwich and the Souviaki sandwich (pork meat) were great. Yummy! The portions were very large and filling. The home fries with cheese were good too and they were more like hash browns. We will be back!
