First time to Hopkinsville and this place didn't dissapoint! I had the side salad and mushroom risotto. Heaven! The salad had fresh greens with sliced green apples, candied walnuts and this amazing tomato bacon homemade dressing. SO good. The mushroom risotto was great as well, big pieces of mushroom, asparagus, and peas. Added plus, its one of the healthy menu items and is less than 650 calories too. My second visit I had the Vietnamese tacos and warm spinach salad. Both were also good, but I prefer the risotto. The tacos were a bit messy to put together. However , the beef tenderloin was very tender. And the salad was good, but the regular side salad was also better. Had more flavor and I don't think I'm a big "warm salad fan"...my salad should be cold. Atmosphere is laid back, little on the fancier side. You could go here to meet a friend or take a date. They had a nice drink menu as well.

So I took my boyfriend here as a "see you soon" goodbye dinner before I leave for three weeks of work. We both dressed up and were seated in a sweet booth next to the bar. The seating is so beautiful with its hard dark wood and low lighting. We were seated right away and in no way felt rushed even though we showed up at 9pm. The bar tender was extremely helpful and sweet asking about our drink wishes and appetizers. I got the Hendrix, which was not sweet (how I liked it) with cucumber fuzed gin and touches of ginger. Cliff got the Manhattan and did not like it, but refused to send it back. Just too strong for him (&me) and tasted like straight bourbon and water - maybe that's how they liked it in the 20s. Not my cup of... Cocktail. For appetizers we got the calamari. At first it was beautiful but I started noticing that the calamari was not full coated or breaded and you could see the white squid and TENTACLES! maybe that's how it's supposed to be but I lost my appetite. Cliff loved the calamari and said 'that's how's you know it's fresh and they cut them up and did it right'. The two sauces were DELICIOUS - white and red. Hmmmm Main meals: I got the sweet soy pork belly with Mac and cheese and grilled asparagus, Cliff got the full rack of ribs and onion rings. As for my meal, I felt as if the pork belly was a little small and had a hard crust that overwhelmed the taste of the pork belly. To be honest, I couldn't even taste the meat because I was so focused on how hard the outside was. This was disappointing because it's an expensive meal. The Mac and cheese, asparagus and presentation was beautiful. As For Cliff's meal it was exquisite. You don't find ribs like that outside of Memphis often. The ribs literally fell off the bone. He didn't even need to use his fingers. They were delicious and perfectly seasoned and not overly layered with sauce. All in all, a great, beautiful experience. The ambiance was sweet, quiet, very romantic and took us to another time. Charlie Chaplin in the background, 'Mad Men'- esque paintings and properly dressed wait staff. The entire meal was two drinks, two entrees and an appetizer came out about $80 with tip. Well spent.

KY Brown Bake was AMAZING!!! Brussel Sprouts were excellent ( coming from a guy that hates them). Sit at the bar! Exceptionally smart regarding liquor! Don't pass this place up!!!

This was our first visit since moving to Hopkinsville in Feb. We had heard good reviews and knowing that it was voted #1 on a list that includes restaurants from much bigger cities, we knew we needed to give it a try. I made a reservation for 6:15 pm on Wednesday August 19. We arrived and were greeted immediately by a nice young lady and taken to a booth which was perfect as I hadn't requested one but prefer them. My boyfriend and his mother ordered the 1/2 order of deviled eggs w/ pickles and pickled onions $5.00- they gobbled them up and said that they tasted quite good. We agreed that the next time we go, we will try either the tuna or table side guacamole. The complimentary corn bread is good. For entrees, my boyfriend's mom had the crab stuffed tilapia $19.00 and said she would definitely order it again. My boyfriend enjoyed his chicken and waffles with brussels sprouts $16.00 and said that he liked it and is excited to try other items on there menu. I enjoyed and will order again the grilled salmon $19.00. The salmon filet is a good portion size- all of them were. I felt like we got our $$ worth. Sam was a very informative friendly gal that checked back often and knew the menu very well. Needless to say, we'll be back.

Harper House is probably the finest dining available in Hopkinsville, KY. The tableside guacamole was delicious. A server sets up a small serving tray next to your table with a peeled avocado (I think 2 or 3 for the large size) sliced in half and you choose your ingredients. Choices include red onion, tomato, cilantro, garlic, salt, lime and red pepper. At $7.50 for a small with one avocado, you're paying to watch but you won't get any fresher guacamole and it is absolutely delicious. The complimentary cornbread comes with a creamy bourbon maple butter that I could have eaten by itself. The cornbread was okay...not as moist as expected. The butter really rocked it though. The Harper House Salad can be ordered with a protein option. I chose the ahi tuna which was perfectly seared on the outside and crusted with black and white sesame seeds on both the top and bottom. The salad includes a house made bacon dressing which I forgot to order on the side since I don't eat bacon. It's probably tasty if you do like bacon. The dried cranberries were actually plump and juicy, not dried-up like raisins. A little more sweet than tart. The diced, crunchy green apples added a nice bit of tartness. The pecans are seasoned in house and I would have preferred a few more half pecans instead of mostly crumbs but overall the salad was very good with a generous portion of tuna. The ribeye was delicious and included a dollop of garlic butter on top. It was mouthwatering. The green beans were drowned under an overly zealous soy sauce application which made them too salty for my liking. The house made applesauce was creamy and slightly tart-sweet...delicious. Almost a dessert on its own. Warm, cozy ambiance and romantic lighting. There are a few televisions in the bar area and a banquet area upstairs. HH is a great little local restaurant with delicious food and great service.

This is the best restaurant within Clarksville limits. Food is out of this world and the service is perfect

Very nice owners and cool ambiance but the food needs help. With such a small menu EVERY item should be perfection and its not. The pork defiantly needs to be brined prior to cooking as the pork chop was horribly tough, meatloaf needs to be plated different (the bread in the middle like a sandwich does not work and is not pleasing to the palate or eye) the free cornbread was horrid and I am a cornbread connoisseur and I stopped at one bite. It was so so dry, tasted old and just yuck. I was just really let down by the missing perfection with the food. I feel like they do not taste their food, which is a HUGE problem. You don't serve people tough pork, I can get that at home. I come to your place to eat food I don't make at home. Work on the food it should be perfect for the prices charged.

If you're looking for a quick, cheap meal, this is not the place for you. If you're feeling sophisticated with a big appetite and willing to pay for it, you will love this place. Friendly service, good food and good atmosphere.

Although it feels like I came home (I grew up in Hopkinsville 30 years ago), I am an out-of-towner. Harper House was close to my location tonight. So, I called up to see if they could get me a table for one :( and was told to "come on down"! Glad I made the stop. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits. Loaded with local corn meal mush and drenched in what I best describe as a Thai flavored bouillabaisse. The shrimp were amply sized and cooked perfectly. Quite nice. Very warming and substantial for a main dish. House salad was tastily complemented with sugared walnuts, cranberries, and a super vinaigrette. The main dish aside, the complimentary corn bread was "country" to the core and I could eat a pan of it. Will come back if I am back in Hoptown!

Best steak I have had in a long time. The Macaroni and Cheese dish is to die for. So glad we stopped by.

Having grown up in Hoptown but not living there today I am glad to see that the town has a place that gives you the feeling of big city. We returned to town to visit friends and Harper House was a perfect setting. The ladies enjoyed the nice Christmas decor and the large screen fire place really left us with nice feeling on a cold night. Services was great and our food arrived prepared as ordered. Everyone made us feel welcome and we look forward to returning. Tommy Bev

After having dinner here with a friend I knew that I had to bring my girlfriend the first chance I got. That fell over the holidays and thought that would be the perfect opportunity to do so. Downside, New Years' Eve was a price-fixe menu and their table made guacamole wasn't available. Fortunately, their NYE price-fixe menu was good. Before that, though, Heather our server asked for our drinks. I convinced my gf to go with the Jack Sparrow, instead of the Orange Crush and she was glad I did. She loved the drink with the rum and st. germaine mixed well with the juices and hibiscus flower which, soaked up all the booze. The appetizers, a ravioli with pine nuts was a delicious and the torchon was all right. I could have used a warm knife to spread the torchon onto the truffle toast. The next course I ordered the French Onion soup and my girlfriend got the spinach salad. We ended up switching because it was too much bacon for her but was great for me. For the entree I got the Filet Mignon and I thought the demi glace was a little too strong for the meat but, overall it was a good meal with the potato flan being the standout side but the bacon green beans were also good. My girlfriend got the sea bass which I think was the better choice, so good that it was good days later. The turnover was delicious! I hope that they bring it back soon so you can enjoy it. The cardamom ice cream with the big chunk of pear with the smooth cheese, perfect. My gf's deconstructed tiramisu was interesting, with all the components spread on a plate with the cups holding the chocolate and caramel together were also made out of chocolate itself. A solid meal and a great way to start the new year.

New to town visiting my son and his family, our grand-babies and his sweet wife. We had the cheese curds for app. Hot and fresh! My wife shared here full rack of ribs with me and the caramelized baby Brussels- DELISH!! Great service from the waitress. Definitely a southern dark and cozy hide-a-way with big screen olé time Mickey and Minnie cartoons. Cool!

Let's start the review First One star for the food , delicious. Had fish tacos once and BBQ chkn another time. Finger likin good the drinks are strong and flavorful. Don't forget to try the Brussels sprouts One star for service. Eager to please One star for the ambience. Laid back yet can be semi formal with great music. Half star for presentation. Nothing special but not bad Half star for price. In NYC it would be a bargain. But it's not in nyc. So 4 stars overall. Great for BFE Kentucky. Would/am going back often

I am absolutely amazed. Who would have thought that I could find a top tier restaurant in a small town in Kentucky. I decided to bring my wife and a friend of mine here based on the reviews here but still I was leery. We have been coming to Hopkinsville every year for a few years for a bike ride and generally we stop in Clarksville because "there are no good restaurants in Hopkinsville". I was so wrong! Every aspect of our experience was top notch and far better than many places I have been - and reviewed - in large cities. We knew we were in for a treat when we were seated at a table directly connected to the bar and our bar tender/waiter Graham knew every nuance about the menu - my wife is very skilled at asking the hard questions! We ordered the deviled eggs, Greek tomato salad, and the table side prepared guacamole for our appetizers. Graham did a masterful job preparing the guacamole - presentation was fantastic and it tasted even better! They have an extensive cocktail menu and we took the opportunity to try a couple and they were also well above par. My wife had a Stella but she normally likes it in draft form. If I have any criticism at all is that I would have liked to see some craft brews on draft given that I am a craft brew snob - but I can understand the theme choice the owners have made. After much discussion with Graham we decided on our entrees. My wife was torn between the beef short ribs and the special for the evening - a ribeye filet - basically the eye of the ribeye. I was torn between the gnocchi and the seared scallops. I went for the latter because it came with a sweet potato gnocchi so I could have the best of of both worlds! Our friend Greg chose the fish tacos after Graham's description. Greg likes fish tacos but he was disappointed recently at a restaurant in Gainesville, FL so he was reluctant to try it again but Graham's description and the experience we had so far overrode the caution. The food was delivered in a timely manner and there were no issues - everything was perfect. Hot food, and correctly prepared. The scallops were perfect, perfectly seasoned, not undercooked, not over cooked or rubbery - just as Gordon Ramsay would want them to be in Hells Kitchen :) - the sweet potato gnocchi was amazing and just the right portion. Greg was very happy with his fish tacos which were ample in portion, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. My wife was very happy with her ribeye fillet - and as someone with a culinary arts degree and one time owner of a restaurant, she can be very demanding! For dessert they normally have some excellent, fresh, local made options according to Graham but on our visit they were sold out of those options. They did have other options and my wife and friend chose to share the salted caramel cake which they enjoyed. I chose to have a liquid dessert - a 15 year old Balvenie Single Barrel single malt scotch - oh so smooth! This restaurant is worth a visit even if you are simply driving north or south on I-24 and are looking for a place to stop for dinner. Take the time to get off the exit and drive into downtown Hopkinsville and you won't be disappointed!

Just a few notes to update my review. The last few times we have been there the food wasn't as good as when we started going there. They have completely taken the tuna tar tar off the menu which is a shame because it was their best appetizer. Also they keep changing their menu around, I know a lot of places do this because they have a summer and winter menu but they keep switching up the filet by using different sauces and sides which hasn't been a good idea for them. The ribs haven't changed and are still the best ribs around. Honestly if they changed the ribs I would stop going, it's the best thing on the menu. Their best side still is the mac and cheese which is also amazing. They need to stop being so fancy with the rest of their sides though. This is still the best place to eat in the area; it has just lost a little something that it use to have.

Brilliant, especially for being so far geographically removed from a big city. My friends and I try to hit up Harper House at least twice a month. The cocktails are creative and the food is fresh and presented beautifully. I'm a sucker for the scallops and a Bluegrass Manhattan (easy on the St Germaine). The bartenders and waiters/waitresses are wonderful and always full of suggestions. If you're there for the piano player, throw him a few tips, he's pretty talented. They used to have oyster Wednesdays (not sure if they still do it) but I felt pretty confident eating them, regardless of the fact the Kentucky's nearest ocean is about a thousand miles away, so that should say something about my faith in their kitchen. I'd say throw on a sundress or khakis, they won't turn you away for anything more casual, but it's nice to dress up.

What an awesome place, probably the best restaurant I've been to in the area. If you're into bourbon, they have a great selection, cocktails are pretty neat too. The food is great, a very contemporary spin on Southern cuisine, definitely a must stop if you're in the area!

Tripped into the place after a 750 mile from Orlando.......so happy we did. I wanted to order pizza to the room and the wife said, "no way", she was right. Ribeye, awesome, chix pot pie, equal. Service was great. Only problem, doubt I will ever be in Hopkinsville again. I want to come back! We need this place back in Chicago!

This place is top notch! Since there's so many reviews and you get the gist, I'll highlight the important parts. 1. Roaring 20s vibe. A bit of theater-esque style, complete with a projector quietly playing Three Stooges on the wall. 2. Bring bills to tip the talented piano player by the entrance. 3. Order the special, your taste buds will be pleased. 4. Nice presentation of food on the tray. It's definitely not tossed on the plate. There is time and effort put into every dish. 5. Show them your military ID, they give 10% off. 6. I'd dress fairly nice. Like a nice, non faded polo and khakis. I'll be back again and again...and again. You get the idea.

Harper House is, hands down, the best restaurant in Hopkinsville. The ambiance is charming and comfortable, with dark paneled walls and light floors. There are tables, small banquettes, larger booths, and seats at the full bar. The music during the week is mellow jazz, and on the weekend, there is usually well-done live piano music. At the bar, there is a large-screen tv showing a sports channel, but it doesn't detract from the main dining room's most memorable feature - a huge projection screen silently showing Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton, or some old western. Harper House has a seasonal menu, but there are standard offerings regardless of season. Everything I've tried there is outstanding, from the raw oysters to the fried dill pickles, from the shrimp and grits to the shepherd's pie and the scallops and gnocchi. My favorite offerings at Harper House are the vegetables. Chef Lane Meinert works miracles with simple, rich preparations of quality ingredients. The maple-roasted brussels sprouts, Sichuan green beans, and the blue cheese-stuffed figs are delicious on their own, and whether ordering an appetizer or a vegetable plate, will give you a delicious and memorable meal. Harper House has a full bar, and while they're more than happy to make you a cosmopolitan or old fashioned or a gin and tonic, they pride themselves on a unique and ever-changing selection of cocktails. Whether you're going in for a weekday power lunch, a special evening out with a sweetheart, or drinks and nibbles with friends, Harper House is the place to be. Finally: I don't have children, so I didn't think of this until I saw the "good for kids" question - there is a children's menu, with several fun options for munchkins, not to mention several breakfast-for-dinner and sandwich options that are also ideal.

For what Hopkinsville has to offer, I would say this place rocks the town. GREAT food selection, drink selection, and ambiance. They have a white wall playing old B&W movies (classic!) and a modern decor/setup. Server was great. I had the Fish Tacos which had an interesting twist on a classic dish - came in both crispy and soft shells together with cheese sandwiched inbetween. Fish was grilled excellently and I enjoyed every last bite. Their corn bread is very dense and very good. Also had the Guacamole and Chips, their fried pickles (v. good), and more. I even asked them to make me a fruity non-alcoholic drink and they surely delivered. Their food quality is excellent, and they are creative with their food. Their menu changes periodically so items mentioned in previous reviews may not be there when you go! A place like this would do pretty well in the Chicago area (where I'm from), but I'm glad Hopkinsville has something like this to eat at. :)

Really great restaurant. Quiet yet fun ambiance, but a bit on the dark side for me. Love the architecture of this building. The food is delicious and unique, which is something hard to come by in the Clarksville area.

Tasty, well designed restaurant. SLOW service and poorly trained hostess. She chatted with another when i checked in and set the nearby menus on my table as she sat patrons. Odd contrast for such a classy place.

Fantastic!! Happened upon the Harper house while looking for dinner. We were 30 min early and I peeked in the window and saw some movement. As I walked back to the car a voice called to me...it was a waitress. She told me they would be open in 30 min and we wouldn't be disappointed. She couldn't have been more right! We ordered the calamari for an app...perfectly prepared and not rubbery like some places. The mushroom soup was delicious. I had the shrimp and grits entree...wow! My wife had the gnocci with steak...some of the best we've ever had! The cornbread served was the perfect complement to our meal. Chris the owner spent a good 10 minutes visiting with us to make sure all was right. All in all, this was one of the best dining experiences I've had. Do yourself a favor...skip the food chains and give this place a try...your stomachs will thank you.

I bookmarked this restaurant based on someone else's review and I called today to make a reservation for tomorrow night and I'm already in love. The owner happened to answer my call and was just wonderful. He asked all of the relevant questions, of course, but then also asked if I was celebrating a special occasion, etc. He even went so far as to tell me where he'd be seating me (in a nice, over sized booth for two near the bar, which is what I like!) and told me that he'd be taking care of us his self. My husband can't have seafood so I told him that I noticed on the site that several people mentioned wonderful seafood dishes and I wanted to make sure there were other things to eat and he took the time to list several items for me. I'll be sure to update tomorrow how everything else goes, but he literally had me at "Hello!" UPDATE: I went in and had the filet, which was cooked to perfection, and everything was just wonderful. I don't know how to say this without sounding cheesy..... Harper House gave me... Hope. I moved here from Hawaii and have since felt isolated, deprived, boxed in....and then I came here and was in a place that could have been in Raleigh, or Cary, NC, or Hawaii, or New Orleans, or Hopkinsville, TN. The owner was wonderful, and as the AWESOME "Captain Jack" martinis that I had wear off, I realized that I probably totally talked the ears off he and his wonderful wife, but I can't say enough about this wonderful place and their food and drink menu. They really think about every detail, from the decor to the drinks to the dressings. GO ALREADY!

A diverse, eclectic menu of food but the service was sub-par. Went in on a Wednesday night and was one of three groups dining and yet it took 40 minutes for any of our food to be brought out. We ordered a Starter but it did not come out until after our main course. Loved the ambiance of the restaurant with the silent films playing on a big screen! However, I felt like much of their menu was "smoke & mirrors". Their food pairings appear to be trendy but does not live up to the hype. The mac & cheese and the fried BBQ chicken were delicious but nothing I couldn't have gotten at KFC with less wait time.

i am in big, fat culinary heart with harper house and i don't care who knows it! this place was AWESOME! the setting is crisp and clean, the music is tasteful and the waitstaff is friendly. started dinner with the whiskey shrimp. plump, tasty shrimp on crunchy ciabatta, with a super awesome sauce. the sauce was almost chocolaty, in the best way possible, with crisp green onions and fatty bacon. the hubby got the catch of the day: a nicaraguan white fish crusted with pistachio and almonds, with maple/cinnamon glazed carrots and a lobster, bacon and sweet potato gratin. the gratin was described by the hubbs as "lasagna-like", which is a high compliment, since lasagna is his FAVE dish. he walked away wanting more i had the benedictine scallops which were DIVINE. soft, seared scallops, tasting of salt and the sea. add that to gnocchi and veggies in a tomato sauce and the dish is complete. rob described the scallops "cauliflowery", but i describe them as heavenly. the one statement i could say is that they are a little heavy handed with the salt (and pepper with the scallops...i had chunks stuck in my teeth after eating). i'm a fan of the salt, but if you are on a low sodium diet, this place is not for you. we got dessert to go and are now munching down on red velvet cake w/ peppermint ice cream and chocolate raspberry pie. it's okay to be jealous. i would be.

Wow- loved this little town and this rocking cool restaurant,. We ate lunch here and it was FABULOUS!!! Had a wonderful salad and my dad said the homemade mushroom soup was the best he had ever had. The cornbread was delicous and the whole expereince was sooooo good. Great bar menu and gourmet food. Atmosphere was as good as food and wait staff very very good....

I went to this restaurant based on the yelp ratings and it didn't disappoint. Definitely not what you would expect to find in Hopkinsville, KY. The food, service, and experience was all outstanding. The bar has a wide variety of drinks to choose from. The shrimp n grits was unreal. It states on the menu that its the most popular item, and after trying it I understood why. Also a big fan of the maple bacon brussel sprouts. If I'm ever in the area of Hopkinsville again, I will certainly come back.

Definitely the best restaurant I've been to in Hopkinsville or Clarksville. Excellent food, well-trained server. Would have gotten 5 stars from me but for the LOUD cheesy lite-jazz piano player, slightly overpriced menu, and clientele consisting mainly of superannuated yuppies. What ARE we to call the yuppies now that they are in their 50s and 60s?

  • TJ N.

The service was amazing. Specially drinks were made with care avd a great beer selection (no draft all bottle). But the food just wasn't that great. I had the fish tacos avd the apple relish was good but the test was less than desired. The side of coconut rice didn't complement the meal and I paid for a side of asparagus that was fleet and over cooked. We were really looking forward to this place but the best part ended up being the projection of old commercials on the wall. I don't recommend it here and I wish I was wrong.

One of my favorite places to eat in all of KY. Good food. Good folks. Great atmosphere. The macaroni and cheese may be the best thing you have ever eaten. Nice beer selection and the bar is really very cool. Highly recommend.

Wow we've heard so much about this place and my wife and I finally had some time to visit Started with a pecan pie old fashioned then cheese curds. Then the sweet corn bread came out. Not normally a fan but this was like dessert. The main course was 12 oz ribeye with casserole and onion rings. The chef cooked the steak to perfection medium was my choice. Must come again and try the guacamole

This is a surprise in Hopkinsville. The best margarita I have ever tasted and the margarita was voted best margarita in Nashville. The meal was expertly prepared and rivaled some of the best restaurants in Chicago at a 4th of the cost. We started with appetizers of guacamole made fresh at the table and deviled eggs with candied bacon. Both were tasty and beautifully prepared. My entree was carnitas tacos. The shredded pork was seasoned to perfection and tender served with rice and beans lightly covered in a cilantro Crème fraîche. Followed by coffee and key lime pie. Very worth the drive.

I'm happy I went into this gem! We decided to try several items off the menu and we got the deviled eggs with candied bacon... mmmmm and we got the flatbread which varies nightly but Saturday night it was delicious! I had a Long Island iced tea that was PERFECT! We were seated near the bar and the bartender was courteous and very knowledgeable about the menu. He was also interesting. I had the stuffed tilapia and a side of the Gouda Mac and cheese -- all of which was divine! My husband had the chicken and waffles and they were different but delicious! We also got a chocolate cake to go that we shared later and it was very chocolate with a hint of fudge! I'm mainly sad that it's been there since 2009 and I have never eaten here! I've missed out! We will be back.

Great food, great atmosphere, great people. Menu is diverse but not overwhelming. All options are very good. Cocktail menu is very nice and not typical. Chef Brett is very talented and enjoys the art of cooking. We had a special dinner for my employees and it was amazing. Definitely worth your time and money.
