While staying in Danville, I realized that there weren't many restaurants in this area of Kentucky. The choices that were presented tended to be less then satisfactory. Old Owl Tavern did not disappoint! I had the BBQ pork, which was delicious and tender. I also was able to indulge in the Happy Hour appetizers, also wonderful! A cute place with very good food.

This was a fun little stop while out driving around. We actually had driven out to Lincoln's homestead park and came through Harrodsburg on our way back to Lex. We stopped here for linner (late lunch/early dinner kind of thing). turns out we came at the perfect time (3:45) because the restaurant was empty when we arrived but by the time I went inside to visit the ladies room about an hour or so after that, the place was packed inside. We were starving so we ended up ordering way more food than we should have. We ordered 2 apps and then 2 entrees. I wish we had stuck with the 2 apps and then maybe had dessert. The appetizers were good. We had the garbage fries and my only complaint was it needed way more ranch. A mess of fries bigger than my head and a little tiny cup of ranch that held no more than a tablespoon or 2? :( The beer cheese was really good and those pretzel chip things they serve with it were awesome! I like things when they're crispy but not when they're crunchy. Bacon is one of those things. I prefer a light crisp, not a hard crunch. Anyway, these had a crispness to them but were still soft and pliable in the middle. This was my favorite. I ordered the hot brown and it was "okay". I was very disappointed in the corn pudding. It's a very wet, loose pudding. Not my cup of tea. My husband had the ribs and he said they were okay. We'll come back but we might stick with the apps, especially if it's happy hour.

We arrived at 4:15 on a Saturday from out of town due to being there for a football bowl game. I don't guess they expected such a crowd from us "out of towners". Only had two servers to start with. We had a total of 15 just in our group. There were other groups from our hometown there too. So needless to say service was very slow to start. Once they got going when they had more staff arrive, they were able to get the crowd moving. The food our group had was good. I like not having to season my food more. And it all arrived to us hot. I didn't hear any negative comments about the food. Several of us had country fried steak that was as good as homemade. My brother in law had a burger and said it was one of the best he's had. Definitely try this place just don't be in a great hurry.

We stopped here based on other reviews and a lack of other options in the area. It was pretty good. My husband has always wanted to try 23 yr old Pappy Van Winkle and they had some! $80 for a shot, but relatively cheap as it's as high as $120 in Chicago. (Not worth $80, tastes like any other whiskey!) I had the crab cake and he had rinds. Service was solid and food was good. Nothing to knock your socks off, but solid food for the price and service was really friendly.

This place was a cool little historic tavern with a solid menu and a cozy atmosphere. The menu that is a real show stopper though doesn't have any food on it. It's the bourbon list. I was able to just order Pappy Van Winkle straight from the menu. If you like bourbon, you'll like this place.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant!!! The hot brown is great, their green beans are stupid good, and their ribs are to die for. Fork tender ribs. And the BBQ sauce is way too good. I'm not a BBQ person but I order the ribs almost every time. They go for $18 and I think that's a steal. Service is always good and the bar is classy. I can't rave enough about this place. I've eaten here countless times and not one time have I been disappointed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

We took our mother here tonight for her birthday. We were disappointed in the service which was very slow - I finally had to ask about our two of our three appetizers - they had been forgotten - our second bottle of wine was forgotten. Dinner was mediocre - i.e one steak ordered medium rare was brown all the way through. We didnt stay for dessert.

At most establishments, I opt for bar seating. There is just something to be said about dining at the bar. You get a completely different experience. Usually, the bartender is the "show" portion of dinner. They are friendly and entertaining. Our bartender/server on Saturday evening seemed almost shy. The drinks did not constitute more than a "meh" reaction. I hate to poo-poo anything, but I cannot help myself. The food was a step up, starting with the fried green tomatoes. They were tasty and satisfying. The crab cake, though, was not a happy representation of its namesake. It smelled like crab, but it did not taste much like one. For it being a special...I was a little confused by the lack of flavor and presentation of the overall dish. After a long drive, though, I was not going to groan too much. Just a little extra effort is appreciated with delicate recipes like crab cakes. The rest of the reviews give Old Owl high marks, which may mean that I had an off experience and may have been halucinating thanks to an 8.5 hour drive. Or, it could be, like we were told, that there are not many other dining spots in the area. I did like the interior AND exterior. The Shaker influence appears in the simplicity of the furniture. It feels homey.

During our stay at the Beaumont Inn, and after a day of visiting ditilleries, my significant Otter and I enjoyed a late lunch/early dinner here with friends who live in the area. The Old Owl is nicely decorated and we were immediately greeted and offered a table. Service was friendly and attentive throughout. The Otter and one of our friends ordered Manhattans with a bourbon suggested by our server. Another friend got the special Owl cocktail which seemed similar to an Old Fashioned. I was bourboned out so I got the Kentucky Ale. All beverages were very much enjoyed. The otter ordered the special - ham and friend chicken - and said everything was fantastic. I got the pulled BBQ sammich along with a salad and o-rings. Everything was delicious - the BBQ was sweet and spicy with a lot of flavor and the o-rings were homemade. Our friends got pasta and a burger and seemed to like their orders.

The ribs, sweet potato fries and chef's veggie medley were very good. Service is just a little slow but friendly. I would recommend

Great food and beers. Atmosphere is nice. Nice gem of a find as we were traveling central Kentucky.

I really like the atmosphere of this place, especially in the winter with the fire going. I've made it a tradition the past two years to take my family there for Christmas when I'm back home in Kentucky. My only complaint is that they don't take reservations and it is ALWAYS packed for dinner, so my simple dinner plans on my last visit turned into an over three hour ordeal.

This is a hidden gem! It's off the beaten path by Beaumont Inn. The food, many local specialties, is amazing! I had fried chicken livers with cream gravy, fried green tomatoes and country ham pot stickers--SO delicious! Our server, Scarlet, was the best, too. We'll definitely return to Old Owl Tavern when we're back in the area.
