The Especial de Mazatlan was delicious (and came in a huge portion size - three of us couldn't finish the double portion size). The server was super friendly as well. My friends and I are traveling from DC and this was a great place to stop for dinner.

Many people love El Mazatlan, it's pretty cheap, it's quick, there's a bar, they can accommodate large parties, it can be a fun environment. However, I am not a fan. The food is very greasy and not at all authentic. The chips and salsa are not made in the restaurant, therefore they're not as fresh as at other Mexican restaurants. While the service is pretty quick, it can seem like you're rushed at times. If you like cheap and somewhat crappy Mexican food, this is your place.

Road Trip. Dinner. Great queso fundido con chorizo. The Mazatlan Especial was awesome! Huge portions. Hubby does not like shrimp so we asked for them on the side and I got them in a skewer. Everything was delicious. We stayed at a B&B and the owners had recommended a different place (Garcia's) but they close at 9pm and we were there just before 9 so they said it was closed. A very kind lady heard this and recommended El Mazatlan. Oh my, that was a great idea. The decor is very Mexican, the music as well -I decided here that in the future I will also rate Mexican places depending on how many songs I sing while eating : P Our server, Aide I think, was very nice and friendly. So was the cashier, a young man. I do not remember if we were pleased with the chips, but everything was awesome!

By far my favorite local restaurant. Such an amazing atmosphere with amazing staff. They are always so friendly. Veronica is the best waitress I've ever had at any restaurant. We go often enough that she has our orders memorized including the fact that I don't want the vegetables or pico. She even makes a point to speak to us if she's not our waitress. The managers that have been there a while know me by name and often ask how work is going and remember where I work. The food is amazing but the wonderful staff makes everything so personal and really care about their customers!

The real deal. Ask for the real hot sauce. Great enchiladas. Great chicken fajitas They were full of flavor. Service was outstanding. Corn Tortillas were grilled. The taco salad was great. Tasted like Mexican food from home. Don't forget the 48 oz. margaritas.

THE MOST AMAZING MARGARITAS I HAVE EVER.ever.EVER HAD. I live in Denver and dream about this place. The basement by the bar is where its at. Ask for the strong top shelf margaritas, I swear its worth every cent. Mix the green & regular salsa together. Order the Chef Special (Chicken, rice and queso - that's it, don't worry I was skeptical about this too). The service is amazing, the food is great the margaritas are award winning.

UN-AMERICAN RESTAURANT! My family and I ate at El Mazatlan in Glasgow, Ky at 11:00 Central on June 26, 2014, mostly to watch the World Cup qualifier between the U.S.A. And Germany. When Germany scored the lone goal, many of the workers cheered loudly and celebrated the American setback. If this had been a game between team Mexico and team U.S.A., I would have understood (I guess) celebrating American misfortune. Given that team Mexico had no dog in the race, so to speak, there was absolutely no reason to take pleasure in American misfortune except for the fact that their actions revealed an undercurrent of racism against the hosts of their new country. My point is that if there is such dissatisfaction at this restaurant towards the patrons who essentially pay their salaries and contribute to their profits, perhaps they should cater only to like-minded customers, (i.e., fellow Mexicans who lack appreciation for what a great country America is) . I, however, will choose to stay out of this hostile environment while suggesting that its workers might want to return to the friendly confines of their own country where they can cheer how they wish without offending those who support them. Oh, yeah, the food was good for a typical "all food comes out of three pots Mexican restaurant." Nice decor. Go back to Mexico if you can't stand Americans.

I admit to being a bit surprised that a place that appeared thoroughly authentic Mexican (or even Tex-Mex) was so underwhelming. I was brought here by my family, who lives locally, and was proclaimed by them the best Mexican in town. Certainly, this might be the case, however, it didn't quite hit the spot for me. FIrst - the chips were fine, but the salsa was weak. When I requested a spicier salsa, the waiter didn't seem to understand my request. Hot sauce was not on the table, and when I asked for some, I got a small bottle of Tapatio. It's a serviceable hot sauce, but more recently has been a topic of concern due to it's sodium benzoate content. No matter, however. Let's move on to the entree! I ordered the Chicken Chilaquiles, which were much cheesier than I had anticipated. Again, it lacked a certain spicy characteristic, and fresh flavors that I crave with good Mexican food. The drinks definitely seem to be a draw for some of the patrons, as that they are generous and rather inexpensive. The portions are generous for the food as well. You will not go hungry if you eat here. Overall, I would come here again, when in town, because my family loves this place. Otherwise, I would be hard pressed to return.

WOW! You may ask why a review starting with that only gets 4 stars. It is because, in my mind, five stars is for places that cost an entire paycheck. What doesn't work? The chips were weak and for that I am thankful. Had they been better I would have eaten more and not finished my dinner. My beer was cold. And good. However, I wish I had ordered the margarita like my wife did. It was fantastic! Much better than I expected from a little place like this. Plenty of lime, with just enough salt, and no hint of the usual cheap alcohol. Food all around was well received, but mine deserves special mention. Mazamolcajete was too much to say, so I just pointed. The side salad was unusually tasty, I know not why. It came, however, in a bowl as big as my head. I had to leave half to finish my dinner. A tasty mixture of beef, chicken and fresh tasting shrimp with cactus and other veggies, this came is a large black bowl with legs, made of volcanic rock. I have never (really) enjoyed something so much from any Mexican restaurant. Tres leches for dessert finished it off. Worth the drive, and unlike your usual tourist food.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
