Stopped last night to try them out. Was very impressed with everything. All four sushi rolls we tried were excellent, service was the best I've had in a long time. By look at it now it's hard to believe this was a donut shop at one time Prices were very reasonable. I'll definitely go again!!!

This has been my second time here. The wait staff needs a little work but the effort is there and with that effort they grow on you. But the food is great and I would say the best in Florence.

I took my daughter for happy hour sushi. It was our first time here. We were amazed not only by the incredible, fresh and delicious sushi, but by the transformation that took place from the Dunkin Donut to the beautiful restaurant it is today. Don't let the boxy exterior fool you, this place is a gem, and half price sushi is never a bad idea.

I wish they had a better location. 42 is a nightmare but it was very good. Food and atmosphere.

Tried a variety of sushi, edamame and ginger salad. Service was great, atmosphere was nice, prices were better than some other local sushi places. LOVE this place. We will be back, definitely. JTB, Rock N Roll and Spicy Tuna were fantastic.

Great sushi. Definitely the best sushi in town. My wife and I have been twice. The first time we had great service. The second time our waitress was a bit rude, but the food almost made up for it.

As much as I would love to keep this gem a secret I really want to keep them around for years. My family loves sushi and Sea not only has delicious fresh sushi but the menu is perfect for the whole family. I love the chicken katsu. It comes with fun bites on the side. Everything we've gotten has be absolutely delicious and the service very welcoming. I really couldn't recommend them enough.

Better than I had expected and everything I could have wanted. Sea offers a cool dining experience. Including fresh and creative menu options from sushi cut rolls, hand rolls and box entrees.. Definitely worth your time! My new favorite go-to-sushi place.

Very clean decor, wonderful service, very broad menu. We had the chicken teriyaki dinner box and a Madame Butterfly roll. Beautiful and delicious!

Ordered the "Sea Soup," which was really good Also had the fatty tuna and red snapper sashimi. Good sized pieces of fish with a little roe on them Tasty stuff! The decor is also really nice. Would never know that the building once housed a Dunkin Donuts® Will definitely be back

Surprised to find good quality sushi in Kentucky. But I have to say this place is pretty good. The sushi are fresh, place is super clean and the service is fantastic! Those craving great sushi should definitely give this place a try!! Highly recommended :)

Sushi, five stars. Everything--and I do mean everything--else, two, maybe three. Which may explain the polarized reviews here on Yelp. Definitely not a first-date place. Definitely not a nice-evening-out place. But if you want the best darned sushi in the area, this is probably not just the best place, but possibly the only place. J and I showed up at 8:30 on a Saturday night and there were maybe five cars in the parking lot. Uh-oh. Inside, the place looked very nice, with pretty-good lighting, handsome displays of Chinese (not Japanese) vases behind the bar, and nicely spaced, comfortable-looking seating throughout. Pretty good for a remodeled Dunkin' Donuts. We came in, were greeted promptly and courteously, and chose to sit at the six-seat--and completely empty--sushi bar. When I say "completely empty," I'm referring to humans. Because on the counter by the two right-hand stools was a large battered brown cardboard box full of black napkins and one of those perforated plastic cylinders of forks. We expected our server to remove these when she sat us, but there they stayed throughout the meal and none of the staff appeared to find this unusual. The beer selection is thin, the sake selection nonexistent. We had green tea, which comes loose (= not in a tea bag) with toasted rice and is very good. The view through the sushi bar glass was disappointing. A half-dozen of the more common types, plus Hokkigai (surf clam, the triangular bits with the red tips) and Hotate (scallops). We ordered the Sushi and Sashimi Love Boat For Two, a darned good bargain at $53 (says 48.95 on their website), considering the quality of the sushi that was to show up in just a few minutes...not that we knew that yet. Since we were the only people at the sushi bar, we were able to watch the chef put our order together. And because all the other patrons had eaten, he got to it right away. Service on drinks throughout the evening was good, but then by the end, we were the only customers in the restaurant. It's a pleasure to watch a properly trained sushi chef at work, and this man was obviously properly trained. Quick without being hurried, never a wasted move, every cut performed with precision and full attention to detail and, finally, everything assembled into a beautiful presentation (see photos). When the chef passed the two boats over the counter, they were midsized works of art. They also clearly contained as much sushi as two adults could possibly eat, and these two particular adults can eat a lot of sushi. The sushi was not just good, but outstanding. This stuff would be top-shelf in San Francisco, Seattle, or Toronto, and finding it in out by the freeway in Florence is not just surprising, but astonishing. The scallops in particular were world-class and everything else was very good. Fried rolls we cooked correctly (e.g., crisp but not greasy), the rice was perfect (although served without the wipe of wasabi, which I prefer, but seems not to be the practice here). Only disappointment was the lack of Unagi (grilled eel), usually a sushi-bar staple. And yet. Many of the beautiful pieces of fish were incompletely cut, so the slices were stuck together at the bottom and had to be pulled apart with chopsticks or fingers before they could be eaten. Which, given the apparent skill of the man behind the counter, is just weird. But then so is a clean and nicely appointed place with junk piled on top of the sushi bar, or a restaurant with excellent sushi but a beer and wine selection inferior to the local Speedway.

Very good, very fresh sushi in Northern Kentucky. Don't miss the chef specials or the chef's special rolls. Place is very nicely decorated. It used to be a Dunkin Donuts. Now I'm Dunkin sushi! Highly recommend this place. Service is very good and friendly.

After reading all the positive reviews, I decided to take my wife here for a date night. The place was dead, but the atmosphere was intimate and quiet. We ordered sake and shrimp tempura for an app. It was decent but had more fried veggies than shrimp. For our entree, we ordered the chef's special, a caterpillar roll (spicy shrimp and eel and avocado) and a Godzilla roll and a large dragon roll. It was a massive amount of sushi and the presentation was artistic. The sushi was heaven on a plate and yes it was reasonably priced for the quantity of food you get. The only thing lacking a little was the service; the young man waiting on us was knowledgeable but not too swift with checking on us. But we will definitely be back, and the lack of patronage can only mean it's one of Florence's best kept secrets!

I gave them a 5 star review when they first opened, but I will now never go back. The last three times I've gone to this restaurant the service has been very unprofessional. The sushi comes out very slow, it easily takes twice as long as Cloud 9 sushi and they are never nearly as busy at Sea Sushi. I've had to ask for a refill on my water repeatedly by waving down the server. I always ask for Miso Soup before my sushi but the last three times I've had to ask for it again or just never receive it, and still get charged for it. This last time I went my girlfriend and I waited in our booth for 10 minutes with nothing in front of us except the check because the waitress was finishing her meal before ringing us out. My girlfriend had to pick up the check and wave it at her before she came to get it. I stand by my first post that the food is excellent 5 stars, but the service is well below par and they have not been improving; they are getting worse in my opinion. I wrote on my check I will not return. And I'm writing on here also. I WILL NOT RETURN TO THIS SUSHI RESTAURANT!

After all the other glowing reviews, we had our hopes up. Sadly they failed to deliver. All the food was bland, even the hot and spicy stuff. Spicy tuna roll? Dry and tasteless. Fried calamari? The sauce was good. Pad Thai was cloyingly sweet. The special Kamakasi was about the only thing that kept this above a single star. Oh, and the sushi came well after we finished everything else. We were the only ones in the restaurant ordering food too. The wait staff gave new meaning to the word wait. She gave us our check, saw me put the credit card in, and went to clean the other tables. After she had taken all the plates, so she knew we were done. Maybe they have two different chefs. I can't imagine anyone giving them a five star review ever. Don't waste your time. Go to Kroger instead.

My husband went here for lunch today and were pleased, but not wowed, but the place. Just about everything was good--the sushi, the salmon stir-fry, and the miso soup. Some exceptions to good were the ginger dressing on the salad, which was very good, service, which was also very good, and the temperature of the place, which was far too cold. Just to put this the temperature thing in perspective, I run warm and was nearly shivering. Unfortunately, the place was dead, even when we left right before Noon. I sure hope business picks up for them.

Average sushi. They just opened so maybe it will get better. Miso soup - good Seaweed salad - ok Salad - pretty tasty. Standard hibachi salad with dressing Sushi- rice vinegar was off and didn't taste right. Tempura used for the soft shell crab was soggy and was drenched in sauce Service was good

Went to this place on the recommendation of a friend. I was not disappointed. Tried the tuna tataki as an appetizer - very good. Then had a blackstone roll for dinner. The presentation was very nice, and the roll itself was great. The menu is very diverse - I look forward to future visits to try other items. I though the service was prompt, the ace was not crowded, and the prices were fair. Do not let the exterior fool you - this is some of the best sushi in Northern Ky!

I typically don't do reviews or follow them much. As a restaurant manager I know the positives are always out weighed by the negatives. With that being said I have been here twice in the last four days and have got eight different kinds of sushi. Everything was very good. Clean and fresh. I suggest the sea soup, jalapeno roll, and also the chefs daily specials! Tell a friend to tell a friend about Sea Sushi!!!

Very curious to see how a donut shop turned sushi restaurant turned out. The remodel was amazing, you would never know its past. The service was superb, and the food was equal parts visual art and delicious.

Avocado salad was very and fresh but varied from the waitress' description. The steamed dumplings were excellent but I was surprised to get only five based on the price of this appetizer. All good. The one thing that irked me was the hostess-waitress talking me into the $11.95 special on the board at the hostess stand. She did this at 6:05 when I walked in and then sat at the bar. I ordered ten minutes later, that same special, but 5 minutes later she tells me it is no longer available. Evidently it's a Happy Hour Special 3-6pm. No where written on the board. She whips out the menu to say I can order another special roll. But the $13.95 one she recommends will be an additional charge, stated after I order it! I think it's a language and culture barrier that I'm not going to battle. My rating will be based on the quality and thus far so good. Waiting on my entree sushi. Excellent raw roll and I would recommend this place. Looks like they have great lunch prices and of course that Happy Hour... You are probably wondering if she charged me full price right? She put in a 10% discount but explained it in a way that came across the polar opposite of customer service. Again...barriers. Come here and if you have a Japanese translator bring them along.

Sushi in Florence, Ky - not normally something that comes to mind, right? Prepare to be shocked - Sea Sushi has been recently opened by Manhattan (NY) transplants, family owned, and in a simple word, is incredible. Very high quality and attentive service. I recommend the boat for 2 as it gives exposure to sashimi, sushi, special rolls in one shot.

When I first saw that the old Dunkin Donuts was now a sushi restaurant, my first thoughts were don't think I'll be taking any chances on that place. But when I started reading some of the positive reviews on Yelp, I thought maybe this place is worth giving a try. I was first taken back by the atmosphere, dark, intimate and tastefully decorated. The interior is not at all reflective of the somewhat tacky signage and location of the exterior. I ordered the house salad with ginger dressing and one of their specialty sushi rolls. I was very impressed by the presentation and equally impressed by the taste. I coupled it with a glass of the house red wine that added to the entire dining experience. I would definitely go back and next time bring a date.

My husband and I were in the mood for sushi and had already passed our sushi standby, Muay Thai, on 42. Out of nowhere, we notice this new Sushi place, Sea! So we decided to check it out with pretty low expectations, since the place is tiny and used to be a doughnut shop and honestly, Sushi in Florence sends off warning bells. As soon as we walked in, my low expectations were blown to smithereens! It was classy and well decorated and we were immediately seated. The waitress was very quiet and not a very good English speaker, but she was very sweet and patient as I asked her to repeat herself a couple times until we came to an understanding. She filled me in on a secret item not on the menu. Then two wait staff and a chef brought out a whole fish on a plate, explaining that it had just been caught in Japan about a day ago! I was amazed and it looked very fresh, so we got the meal having no idea what it actually was. When it came out, I was doubly amazed! They had turned this fish into sashimi and sushi and the presentation was mind blowing. I will post a picture later. We had 2 other rolls, the Philadelphia roll and Spicy Salmon roll. Both were very good. At the end our tab was only $31! Not bad at all! We will definitely be back!

This place has almost left me speechless. Almost. This newly reconstructed restaurant has an amazing atmosphere coupled with an attentive and friendly wait staff who were very helpful on my first visit here. Our server recommended the fried calamari, which was delicious and served with a sweet homemade mango sauce. We ordered two standard rolls, (which were the Florence roll and Spicy Calamari roll) and two chef's special rolls, (King Lobster and Godzilla). The first thing we noticed was how beautiful the presentation was, then we dove in and discovered how amazing it tasted as well. The server politely pointed out which rolls were which, and the sushi chef stopped over to make sure the quality was great, which we enthusiastically told him yes. After being offered dessert, which we couldnt fit even if we tried, we got the bill paid and left. This place is very affordable, especially when you look at what you get, I will highly recommend Sea to everyone who doesnt want to drive 30 minutes north for a decent sushi.

Stopped in by chance for lunch. I was pleasantly surprised. Prices are not bad and quality very good. I try to stay away from carbs. The sashimi pieces were thick and fresh. I will come back.

This place rules. The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a sushi place. The dude behind the bar making sushi is such a badass. The hot tea was good and all three rolls I tried were equally amazing. The volcano roll is completely different than any other volcano roll I've had. Sushi is a perfect example of how Japan is smarter than us. It's so delicious.

If I had only one word to describe this place, it would be: "Eyecandy". Sea Sushi & Grill is all about the pretty. The decor of the restaurant itself feels modern, urban, with hints of traditional Japanese punctuated subtly here and there. It feels upscale yet cozy, without being stuffy. Very cool and hip but understated. The food is also gorgeous. Peruse some of the many photos from this place and you can see the care and artistry they put into their presentations. From wild and woolly (Godzilla Roll), to cutesy adorable (Sweet Heart Roll) to just simply delicious looking. Here, you definitely eat with your eyes first. Sea is not, however merely flash over substance. Their food tastes as good as it looks. Fresh, delicious fish, well seasoned rice, and combinations you wouldn't expect to pair well. Personally, I think the chef might be a little crazy, but completely in a good way. It seems like they really enjoy playing with their food, and you should definitely try one of the chef's daily creations. I was lucky enough to try the Caterpillar Roll, and I enjoyed that almost more than what I went for. They both were equally delicious in their own ways. They have other offerings too, but focus on various forms of maki and temaki (cut rolls and hand rolls). They do have nigiri and sashimi as well as tempura, hibachi, and other items I didn't try this visit. Their menu isn't as traditionally Japanese as say Matsuya, but that isn't their focus. What they do focus on, they seem to do very, very well. I definitely recommend Sea if you're in the mood for sushi, or more specifically, "hip-sushi". It would also be a great date spot. I mean c'mon, what girl could resist romantic conversation with Valentine-shaped sushi staring up from her plate?!

The best sushi in the tri state! We had steamed dumplings-the best steam dumplings I've ever had at a restaurant!, Singapore fried rice-sooo good!, and a Godzilla roll-the best tasting sushi I've ever had, and I've lived in Honolulu Hawaii.

Four stars for the sushi. Got off the highway seeing a sign for Bob Evans. I was at the light and saw Sea Sushi and Grill on the other side of the road and burned rubber in that direction instead. It was only me and two other parties in the place but the interior was very nice. It took a long time for the waitress to come out to get my order after she put water on the table. I was anxious to be back on the road. But she gave me a free salad with my order which eased my heart. I got the salmon nigiri, Philly roll, and chicken yakisoba, wanting to sample some of my favorites. The salmon nigiri was gorgeous and fatty, and it was very high quality. It tasted like some of the salmon sushi I had when I was actually in Japan. The Philly roll was one of the best I've had too; the tuna in it was generously portioned and high in quality. I didn't care much for the yakisoba. It didn't taste like traditional yakisoba. Overall, I'd recommend the sushi above all else here. I wonder what the hibachi meals would have been like.

Stopped in to check the new place out. Got the menu in the mail which sparked my curiosity. So I braved the construction traffic to give it a try. Ordered the "pick 2" sushi lunch special. Several special chef rolls looked appealing but they are not on the "pick 2" options. This was disappointing. However the Boston roll and Sweet Potato roll were delicious and beautifully prepared. So my disappointment was short lived. The atmosphere was attractive, clean and comfortable. They have both booths and tables and some traditional "floor" seating. The music was a little loud and out dated. The service was fast and friendly. The best part was the salad. YUMMY! The best ginger salad I can remember. I wanted to lick the bowl but resisted to spare the surrounding diners. This place is definitely worth braving 42 construction traffic.

We are always on the lookout for new sushi joints near us. This new place did not disappoint. We got their flier about 2 months ago and tried them for the first time tonight after reading the reviews on Yelp. We were very impressed overall. There were three of us (counting our 10 year-old critic) and we ordered the sashimi deluxe, unstoppable roll, and spicy tuna roll. We also ordered a house salad and 2 miso soups. The sashimi dinner came with a house salad and an onion soup. My son quickly devoured my salad and his miso. I enjoyed the onion soup, though I thought it was a bit beefy tasting. My husband really enjoyed the miso as well. The Bank Roll was featured tonight but they were out of lobster salad, so we chose the unstoppable roll. DELICIOUS!! ( you must try) We also ordered the spicy tuna, and liked the added crunch. The amount of "spice" was perfect on each roll. The sashimi deluxe came out a bit later (18 nice-sized pieces), with a lovely presentation. My son was especially awed with the neon lights. The food was so wonderful- it really did not need the flash. For the three orders and three sides, plus 1 beverage it was $55 (not with tip). Servers were very attentive, although I would like to have not needed to ask for water. We asked for sake. It was explained they are still working on their liquor license, more so than the state of Kentucky, it would seem. They did serve us complimentary sake, but I thought it tasted more salty-like soy. I thanked them and passed on it. So my husband ran out for a bottle of wine which they corked and provided wine glasses, at no charge. They anticipate having their liquor license by next month. She said they would have a larger selection once they had their license. This atmosphere is stunning...gorgeous décor and lighting. Food was divine. We will definitely go back!

The food is really good and I still love coming here. I'm updating the review based on the waitress. She is really nice but I feel the need to take away a star because every time I come here, she seems extremely frazzled and apologizes way too much. She's always running around like she's incredibly busy when she only has 4 tables. It definitely takes away from the atmosphere. And I'm not saying she gives bad service, she is really sweet. She just needs to chill out and calm down.

Yesterday I made my first trip to Sea for lunch with my mom and kids. I was very skeptical that Sea would be good, let's be honest the outside of this place and the fact that it was once a Duncan Donuts does not help the skepticism. I was so pleasantly surprised by the decor, food and vibe that I am just excited for my next trip back! I got the choose two rolls for $9.95, it comes with a salad and miso soup. The miso was so delicious, one of the best I've had, and the dressing on the salad was very good. My rolls I decided on were the tuna roll and Philadelphia roll. They were both beautiful and delicious! The only reason Sea did not deserve a 5 star rating for me is because of the service at lunch. My mom and my kids received what they had ordered almost 20 minutes before I received my order. Other than that Sea was great and I can't wait to come back!

Sea Sushi & Grill is a pleasant surprise. Once you step inside, the ambience takes you in. It's very nicely decorated with dark wood, exposed beams, and comfortable seating. We went expressly for sushi and did they ever deliver. The presentation is beautiful and the portions are filling. I had one of the Chef's specials, and it was delicious. Their menu has pretty clear explanations, which is nice if your looking to branch out of your sushi comfort zone. At lunch time on a weekday, we were the only diners there. But it seemed fairly new, so I'm sure the word will spread and it will get to be more popular. My only complaint would be the slow service, but hopefully that will pick up with their customer base.

Decor is INCREDIBLE!!! Inside the place, everything is New and contemporary. This location use to be the old Duncan Donut on 42 across from Bob Evans and next yo Quality Inn. I was invited to have dinner with Steve Wilson. Annie our waitress was very kind and very personal. So onto dinner, got the ginger salad, it was fresh and ginger dressing was great. I ordered 3 rolls spicy tunas, spicy salmon and dragon roll...all sensational. Steve ordered the hibachi chicken, it looked good. Desert was the moochi green ice tea. Overall I would highly recommend this place and I will be bringing my girlfriend Toey for dinner.

This is a beautiful well decorated sushi restaurant that will delight your taste buds. They really specialize in rolls here so if you have a hankering for sushi rolls so she me and bento than you will be thoroughly satisfy. They also offer stir-fry meals like pad thai and teriyaki chicken teriyaki beef etc.. The food last delicious, the sushi fresh, the server polite, quick and accurate. I would be happy to come again if in the area. I was extremely happy with the black spider roll tempura crab with warm eel delish.

I came here for the first time and I was a really disappointed with the service. The server was unskilled and unexperienced. This server was the only one there when I came in though. I knew what I wanted right away and order. I waited a little more then hour for my food then I asked where it was. Somehow they missed placed my order. :-(. Well they fixed gave me a discount for the mix up Now for the food it was simply great I will be going back there so stay tuned for a update.

Great seafood!! We were in the mood for sushi and the reviews led us here. We placed an order online since we weren't in the mood to done in and the presentation and packaging were great! Definitely plan to order more and dine in. The restaurant is has been open for about a month and there didn't seem to be any kinks that needed to be worked out.

I'm the only person in my family that enjoys sushi, so after receiving a flyer for Sea I ordered some takeout. Hubby picked it up so I didn't see the location, but the sushi was fresh and I enjoyed my craving fix. I will most likely be back, hopefully next time with some sushi loving friends instead of solo.
