So many flavors to choose from. Great place for ice cream on 6th st. For the price you get a lot of soft served ice cream in a cup, cake cone or waffle cone. I had the cake cone for 2.49 which was more ice cream than I was expecting. Make sure you get lots of napkin as it melts fast.

This place is great! I had the cheeseburger with fries and finished it off with a black cherry/ pistachio ice cream. Delicious! The service was excellent! Highly recommend!

This is the best little place in Covington for casual dining. We walked over to Main Strauss from downtown just for their blueberry cheesecake ice cream because it sounded so good, and it was worth the walk. Seriously, go try that stuff! The staff were so inviting and chatted with us for a few minutes while we ordered and waited. It gave me a real Andy Griffith vibe which was really nice. The setup itself is different; you walk up to an outside counter, order, and sit down outside. The clerk brings you the food or ice cream you ordered when it's ready. You can see into the place and it's quaint and small but they seemingly have enough kitchen to fulfill the orders. It looked like only three guys were running the place when we went. There are benches and tables in this lovely little sitting area surrounded by trees and rod iron fencing. Honestly, this place is too adorable. I loved being there. It's a pleasant little small town diner with great ice cream, a lovely seating area, super nice people running it, and a great location in Covington. Bring the kids, bring your significant other, bring the parents and grand parents. Everyone should try this place.

Hi yelpers - I want to update my review on Piper's. While the rating didn't change, the park across the street from Pipers did, I feel like it needs mentioning that if you need a space to stop while you're on a road trip, especially with children, this is your spot. Pipers does have lotsof seating, but when you have small children sitting is for a limited time only. The playground across the street is huge, and much more playable than the one they removed. The second piece and update my review is that Pipers has a lot of food options. I basically had come here before for snacks and softserve, but we have now tried the hotdogs and hamburgers they offer - not only is the meat offered local (most food have local options available) but they have what's called "smart side" which is a healthier side option. You'll probably see us at the spot throughout the summer!

Had such a great experience here! Some friends and I came for ice cream over the weekend and our expectations were exceeded. It is so refreshing to be greeted in such a welcoming manner, the owner was great and explained how the place worked, some of their specialties and was patient while we chose which flavor combo to choose. There are 40+ flavors with a million different combo options. They blend the different flavors fully versus a twist appearance. The German chocolate ice cream was amazing. All their flavors are lactose free as an added bonus. We also got the chili cheese fries which were fantastic--tons of cheese options as well. The owner sent a personal thank you via Square, the payment service. I am looking forward to coming back!

Some pretty tasty soft serve. They have over 40 flavor and you can mix them. Love the variety but the flavored didn't blow me away. The flavors are mixed when you order them so multiple flavors aren't swirled. But you can't go worming with soft serve. The menu also looked like it had some interesting items.

The walk up ice cream window is great. Good soft serve with a ton of flavoring options. The flavors are all syrups, so not amazing, but my 6 year old nephew thinks the endless flavor combinations are the best thing in the world next to ice cream. This is a great area to bring the family for a walk and a fun treat.

Returned for breakfast with a friend. LOVED the lamb sausage sandwich with basil honey bun. It was divine and hoping to return soon for the same.

Ordered an apricot soft serve and it wasn't that good. I was expecting a creamier texture, by the time I had turn the corner, a good portion was already melt.

You've gotta try this place, great food with friendly service in a cozy environment. I've been looking for a hot dog stand like this for years. Now I could be a regular. The soft serve ice cream and old school bottle of coke added to a perfect quick lunch in Covington.

I tried this place today after hearing/ seeing all the great reviews. Note: the ordering and seating areas are oudoors, but in lots of shade. I loved learning about all the favors and how the ice cream is made with natural fruit extracts and flavorings. I ordered the black raspberry ice cream on a waffle cone. It was great! The soft serve texture was slightly looser and a bit more melted, but very tasty. The owners seemed very professional and friendly. Nice spot in Covington! Will definitely go back!

This restaurant offers unique food items using many organic and/or local ingredients. I love the shaded outdoor seating atmosphere and now there is a small indoor seating area. Friendly owners/chefs will answer any questions about their restaurant. Breakfast is served all day. Seven Hills coffee is served and the menu is ever changing.

I love this place. The whole walk-up window and outdoor seating idea works for them. It's a great place for people watching. Chip, the owner, is very nice and is proud to tell you where everything on his menu comes from. It's locally sourced if you're wondering. So far, each visit I've made here I've enjoyed everything I've tried. The soft serve ice cream is definitely a must try. They currently offer 40 flavors and you can combine up to three. It's soft serve like you've never had before. And if you check in, you can get a nice discount on their ice cream. Make a visit to the MainStrasse Village and stop by this little outdoor cafe.

Such a gem! I am kicking myself for never checking this place out and having lived in the area for a few years. What's wrong with me? Don't answer that, we don't have the time. So, after a perusal of the menu and an introductory convo with the owner (believe his name was Chip) I decided on the vegetarian burger and side of antipasta. Yummy! The burger, like almost everything else on the menu was either handmade or locally sourced and was great. The antipasta was fine as well. The meal was actually preceded by a cup of soft serve ice cream with a few flavors that hit the spot. I will definitely be back and will try to bring a few more people that can enjoy this feel good kinda place. Oh, and the outdoor seating area is perfect for enjoying passersby and great weather. You can hear the bell chimes from the nearby Carroll Chimes Bell Tower. See photos of it here: therivercitynews.blogspo…

I can't believe this place has been right under my nose this whole time! A walk up window with outside seating. Saturdays they have all you can eat pancakes for $7 and breakfast served all day. I got the scrambler which was alright, and tried a little bit of my boyfriends Guinness goetta chili--which was hearty and very very delicious (recommended so long as your not anticipating "cincy style chili")My favorite was the soft serve- over 40 flavors which you can mix (up to three) and glaciers which are soft serve mixed with traditional ice cream. They had so many different flavors so I'll def be coming back to try more. Also, if you check in they offer 50% off a soft serve.

If I could give Piper's ten stars, I would! Everything about this cafe was basically perfect. The fact that 95% of their products are from local resources is what made me want to go here. And on top of that, the food was delicious and the man working was the friendliest! I had seen an advertisement on a car and it just caught my attention. My mom and I came here for breakfast and they had great choices for everyone! And great vegan choices which makes my heart happy. The slight challenge is that they only have outdoor seating, which I'm sure is great in the summer, but not the winter. Overall, I'm going to say- YOU NEED TO TRY PIPER'S! Now!

While attending Covington's MainStrasse Oktoberfest over the weekend, we stopped into Piper's Cafe for ice cream. They have a walk up window and feature 24 flavors of soft serve ice cream in addition to hot dogs, burgers, and breakfast served all day. All of their flavors start out as vanilla, flavor extracts are added and mixed in, then the newly flavored ice cream is pressed out into a cone. You can combine up to three flavors, or we found that the $1 kid's cone was a great way to give multiple flavors a try without mixing. Piper's is located near Goebel Park and with so many festivals taking place in the MainStrasse Village I'm sure we will be back for more.

I am so glad to have found this spot, every one calling it a little gem is absolutely right. Tucked away on a side street, you'll literally miss it driving right by if you don't know to look. But stop, check it out, and you'll be so happy you did. Food is great, outdoor seating (in appropriate weather) is so very pleasant, and the local, healthy, options abound. Or you can go indulgent, and those are very good too. The staff is friendly, the prices are fair, there's nothing not to love about Pipers.

We only had ice cream but they have a soft serve ice cream that is way better then that stuff at most places. It's rich creamy goodness. They also have like 100 flavored. A nice courteous staff as well.

I haven't had their food yet, will review when I do. However their ice cream is so yummy! Soft serve of over 40 flavors and its lactose free! I got "red velvet cheesecake" and it was amazing. Will be so fun on a hot summer night to come back!

Delicious soft serve. Very affordable. So many flavors... anything you can think of, they have! Love the location and the outdoor seating area. Perfect for sitting outside on a nice night and having a soft serve cone.

Yum! Piper's is a little walk-up window with a great menu (breakfast all day!). There is a nice outdoor seating area for good weather. Their vegan burger is one of the best I've ever had, and it's hard not to be tempted by the many flavor milkshake options! Extra bonus: Piper's dedication to support local businesses by using local providers. Great spot to pick up a meal and go!

Great place and some vegetarian choices too! Indoor seating for rainy days too. If you sit inside be sure and turn on the radio :). Mushroom burger was great but the house made ketchup is wonderful with the rat tail fries.

This was my first time ever having/hearing about Piper's Cafe. All I got was the German Chocolate soft serve which is perfect for the hot days we've been having lately. I'm only giving 3 stars simply because the German Chocolate soft serve was good but didn't live up to my expectations. My friend on the another hand got the Mocha shake and it was amazing. I will be coming back to try the food and more flavors!

Great food, fresh, tasty, very interesting menu, charming location, great prices, and impeccable service. I've had both breakfast and lunch here. Recently tried the new "Best Exotic Hotel" sandwich; the curry spices and raisins absolutely make it! I love that the menu is fresh, local, and frequently updated. Have yet to try a hot dog or some of the famous soft serve, but will certainly be back to do so.

Piper's truly is a hidden gem! At first I thought it was just an ice cream shop, but man was I wrong. Their menu is packed with locally sourced good. If you can't decide on any of the delicious treats then go with a hamburger. Trust me when I say you won't be disappointed! Not only is the menu locally sourced, they try to put a very healthy spin on everything. Needless to say if you are looking for a quick delicious bite, then Pipers is for you!

Very good for breakfast and loved the outdoor seating. Also had Goetta for the first time mixed in with eggs, hash brown potatoes, bell peppers and onion and Chipolte Colby. Excellent and highly recommended!

Love this place- My boyfriend and I recently tried it for the first time for ice cream. They have an unbelievable amount of flavors. My boyfriend got strawberry cheesecake and every single bite tasted of both flavors. Not like usual ice creams where you get one flavor. They also have non-dairy options. I am not a big fan of dairy and got a glacier freeze and it was just as delicious!! As crazy as it sounds, I now prefer this over Greaters! They have breakfast/lunch/dinner foods as well. We will be back soon to try those. Can't rave about this place enough. Reasonable prices and so convenient.

The service is fast and friendly, and everything I've had so far is delicious! My favorite is the goetta and Guinness chili. Plenty of outdoor seating and a convenient walk up window. A must have in Mainstrasse.

Yummy ice cream! My husband ordered a chocolate soft serve and I had a mocha chocolate. It was a perfect after dinner treat. The owner helped us and was very friendly.

Two stars for two out of four, plus a cheap kiddy-cone of softserve.... summary: 1. vegan burger - 2 stars 2. grilled cheese - 4 stars (great tomato and bread) 3. covington hot dog - 1 star (billed as a 'Chicago dog' it was all mustard and no Chicago. Bun was neither steamed nor toasted... and no poppy seeds. need to rewrite the menu on that one guys...). came with soggy shoe string fries 4. Chicken Sausage biscuit: 4 stars (awesome sausage patty - credit to the producer, not the cook...) Piper's menu features local and simple ingredients at a walk up window right in Mainstrausse. From there, it's hit and miss. We stopped by with friends and our kids because of the rock garden, tables and fenced in area, perfect for keeping the little ones confined and occupied. We started with the egg and chicken breakfast biscuit. The chicken sausage was excellent, the biscuit, great, the eggs good, and potato hash browns soggy, and the organic ketchup awful (note that I'm a Pittsburgh kid, and I'll take Heinz and the HFCS any day...). Unfortunately, we tried the biscuit first, and then followed up with the vegan burger, grilled cheese and the covington hot dog and fries with our friends. verdict: Don't let the organic/local/fresh vibe fool you...get the $0.75 kid's soft serve cones and move on.

Stopped by their takeout window for one of their 24 FLAVORS OF SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM!!!! Yes, its true. And you can mix and 2 flavors together! For $2.25 you can get a cup. For $2.50 a cake cone. For a little more, you can get a waffle cone. Amazing! I found success with a butter pecan and caramel. Also good was the maple nut and strawberry cheesecake. Not so successful was the strawberry peanut butter or the amaretto. The possibilities seem endless! They do have to individually make each cone because of the personalized flavors. This means you may have to wait about 5 minutes for your cone. Completely worth it in my book. Checked out their food menu, which looks very interesting. Definitely want to go back and try brunch on their patio some time.

5 stars because my burger was delicious and they delivered to my door. nice change from pizza/pasta. no complaints, will be ordering again. i really don't know what they did to the burger but it was the best burger i have tasted in a long time. I got it with their TED cheese and bacon. If you don't like blue cheese (i don't), don't be put off, the TED cheese tastes more like a creamy cheddar.

On my most recent trip down to Northern Kentucky, I stopped by here with my friend for lunch. I got the Grilled Cheese with Tomato Basil Cheddar - it was PHENOMENAL. It came with a side of "Rat Tail" fries with a homemade ketchup which is delicious. Everything is fresh and locally sourced, and they have vegan options on the menu. They also have a great selection of drinks - instead of Diet Coke or Sprite, they have Switch Soda, Jones Soda, Arizona Ice Tea, etc. There are picnic tables set up right outside to make for a nice charming little lunch. Next time I head down I definitely want to try the breakfast and then come back later for the ice cream! With great prices and great food, this is definitely a place to check out if you're strolling through Mainstrasse Village.

My fiance and I stopped in a couple weekends ago. First of all, the gentleman who served us was just an absolute pleasure. You could tell her was truly proud of what he served. The food was good! Since it was our first time we got a lot of stuff and shared it all - chili, french fries, grilled cheese, hot dog, and ice cream (wow - putting that in writing makes me feel very ashamed!). The fries were great. They have a unique seasoning that's very good. The grilled cheese was the bomb. We got the TED cheese (I think that's what it's called). Didn't care for the mustard on the hot dog - but the dog itself was great and the pretzel bun it was on was even better! The chili was different but good. Ice cream was good too! Definitely recommend this place!

What a great little spot, good food and 40 flavored of soft serve ice cream blends that can be combined. Today a workmate and I took our wifi cards and laptops and had ice cream outside while we worked at one of the tables there. We got up and walked over to watch the clock tell the story of the Pied Piper... It was just perfect. This is my kind of place, nice staff relaxing and in a great neighborhood and beautiful little nook of Covington, I wish we had a little place like this in Raleigh.

Great fries! The TED grilled cheese was amazing and the outside seating area is very cool. I recommend it!
