Harrison Smith House Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

We celebrated our first anniversary in Bardstown this past weekend and made reservations at the Harrison-Smith House for our last dinner in town (mainly because it was right around the corner from our B&B and looked cute). I am SO glad we did. This was the best meal (and best service -- thank you, Nikki!!) that we had all weekend. Everyone in town will recommend that you dine at The Rickhouse (which we did), but it pales in comparison to HSH. From the ribs appetizer to my catfish entree and the delicate profiteroles for dessert... even my Fall Sour cocktail! Everything was superb. To the owners: if you ventured to branch out with another location in Nashville, we would be your biggest fans!

Impeccable! Every single dish was outstanding. It's not often I experience such an all-around amazingly-impressive dining experience. But from the moment I walked onto the property of this historic building and into its entrance, every detail was top-notch. The property, building and restaurant decor is beautiful and the food itself was really extraordinary. My friends and I ordered several appetizers and entrees to share. Every single dish was exceptional. The ingredients are fresh and local (I hear the vegetables are grown in their own backyard)! The food is fresh, simple and clean, not over processed or filled with filler ingredients as too many restaurant dishes are these days. The tastes of every dish we tried were exceptional. The chef is spectacular. Funny, that during my entire 36 years, I disliked catfish - or so I thought. The chef at HSH converted me! His pan-fried wild KY catfish was outstanding - one of the freshest, best-tasting fish dishes I've had. I am gluten free and HSH was wonderfully-accommodating to my needs! Don't forget to get the cocktails and desserts. Impressive and memorable as well. Let's just say I'm a massive fan of this place. I live in NYC and get to experience a decent share of supposedly "top" restaurants. Hands down, HSH is the all-around best restaurant experience I've had in years. I will count the days until a return trip...

Delicious!! Good friendly service! Wonderful meals! Highly recommend. Both dishes were excellent - Shrimp and Grits in red pepper sauce with greens and Crispy Amish Chicken and broccoli. Wish I had room for dessert, but I ate every rich yummy flavorful bite so leaving full with nothing lacking. My husband said he hadn't had chicken that tasty since his aunt used to make it in an iron skillet. We asked how they cooked it and it is pressed under a brick wrapped in foil - who knew?? Enjoy!

Great cocktails, great food, great staff! Had the old fashion, and my date had the pomegranate Cosmo and both were fabulous. Small menu selection, but the food was outstanding. Our waitress Candy was fun and attentive. Loved this place.

Awesome is only way to describe the whole dinner experience. I had the smoked fried chicken evening special which came with well seasoned green beans and greens cooked together for and outstanding side. I chose the Burgoo soup that was also incredible. The bread pudding was served perfect as well. Prices are what you expect for a 5 star dining experience.

Hands down the best restaurant in Bardstown! Look no further for high quality food. After a few disappointing dining experiences in the area we stumbled upon HSH. The food was fresh, nicely plated and on point. If you have a sweet tooth I highly recommend the bread pudding, simply delicious!!! They've only been open for a few weeks now and looks like the decor is still work in progress. Still a great place, check it out for your self you will not be disappointed!

In town for bourbon trail. Amazing dinner! Menu changes weekly. We had chicken thighs, flank steak, brussel sprouts, risotto. It was amazing! The desserts: the sticky toffee pudding was outstanding. The service was phenomenal! And the overall experience was a must do!!

While on the Bourbon Trail with 2 other friends we stayed a night in the beautiful town of Bardstown and decided to go to Harrison smith house after getting recommendations from the home owner of the house we were staying and also after seeing several great yelp reviews. We were lucky enough to get a reservation for 3 for a late dinner and we arrived 15 minutes prior to their kitchen being closed. Our table was laid out impeccably and our hostess Kandice was very warm, friendly and made us feel very welcome. For drinks I ordered the Old fashioned made with Elijah Craig bourbon and you could distinctively taste the bourbon in it which made this a very pleasing drink, if you are into old fashioned then I would highly recommend that you order this drink. To start off on the food we shared the salad (Grilled romaine, HSH Caeser, garlic crouton, parmesan ) which was so fresh, the romain was crunchy and had the right amount of char and the combination of the ingredients made every bite very delicious. For main course we ordered Wild Lake Barkley catfish, Grilled steak, Crispy Amish chicken thighs and each dish had a distinct character. One friend had the catfish was light and flaky and went well with the broccoli cheddar salad and the other friend ordered the Grilled steak which was cooked perfect medium rare and the combination with the caramelized onion sauce was right on and finally the dish that I had ordered Crispy Amish chicken thighs and the chicken was cooked perfect with crispy skin and stood out among the garlic rice grits, bell pepper and greens on the plate. The portions were large and very well presented. We were full and hence did not order the dessert but all their desserts are made in house. And the highlight of the evening was meeting Chef Newman who came out to say hello and we were able to visit with him and he was prepping for their Saturday night staff dinner and was gracious to have us try his cabbage salad which he had made for the staff which was just an explosion of great flavor with a lingering spicy kick to it. Overall this was a memorable experience and if you are in Bardstown please make sure that you don't miss HSH. Advance reservation is highly recommended. Kudos to the overall team at HSH, well put together and one of the best teams in the business!!!!

My coworkers and I came here for dinner the one night we were in town on business. We chose it based on the Yelp reviews, and we were not disappointed. It's in a beautiful old home with so much charm. It looks super fancy, but we were comfortable there in our relatively casual attire. The food was delicious. I mean AMAZING. The menu is small, but everything was cooked to perfection. They were even able to accommodate my coworker's dietary restrictions with substitutions. The chef came out at the end of our meal, and he is super cool. He's young but has a ton of experience and is so passionate about this restaurant. Loved it!

Fantastic meal. I can't stop raving about the meal I had at HSH. I had the Amish Chicken. It was boneless chicken thigh with ham cheese over spinach on bread pudding. It had a sauce that made my mouth water. DH had lamb smoked outside, we saw it being smoked earlier in the day as we toured downtown Bardstown, (by the way Bardstown is a place you want to add to your lists of places to see). The lamb was over rice with asparagus. I can't tell you much more he said it was good but, I was so into my chicken there was not much more conversation than how good my chicken was. Make this one of your stops. It was phenomenal.

Harrison Smith House is the bees knees! Apparently, this used to be named Circa, but they've changed ownership and the name. The interior looks a little like the Dragonfly Inn (Gilmore Girls reference) with an updated look. It's really comfortable and inviting. I didn't look all around, but there seem to be two dining rooms and a cute little (well-stocked) bar area. It looks like every detail of the restaurant from the placard indicating the year in which the building was built to the handsoap in the restrooms was purposefully chosen. The service was impeccable! All of the staff really went above and beyond to customize our experience. These folks are doing a bang-up job. I cannot say enough good things. One of the things that impressed me the most didn't have anything to do with my table's service specifically. There was a family of four or so (a mom, a dad, and two, maybe 3 little ones) sitting in the same dining area as my table. There was a little girl, maybe 3 years old, bopping all about the place. I think I saw a majority of the staff stop by their table and play with the little girl or say something nice to the family. The staff never even batted an eye about having a child running around the restaurant unfettered. Regarding the food and service to my table, everything was great. My server commiserated with me about other restaurants not having vegetarian/vegan options and, even when the options exist, they're all pasta. She assured me that the chef would make something really nice for me and she didn't lie. My dish was fantastic! I was dining with two coworkers; one fussy eater and one adventurous eater. The fussy eater had difficulty finding something that didn't have certain ingredients in it. The chef, as sweet as pie, came out and discussed it with him to get the order just right. I was so impressed with that. Fussy had the chicken wings with one "especially hot" one. He enjoyed the whole dish, especially the hot wing. The adventurous one had a dish with fish that he thoroughly enjoyed. The general manager also stopped by to ask us how our meals were, but not in an obligatory manner. He seemed genuinely interested in our level of satisfaction. I also liked the fact that I saw that same manager literally roll his sleeves up and help clear some dishes. HSH has a different menu every week so I can't quite recall everything we had now that two weeks have passed, but it was all delicious and filling. Well worth it. At the end of the meal, I asked for a box for my leftovers. The server boxed my food for me and, when she brought that box out, she noticed that it was pretty tenuous. Instead of sending me off with a broken box of food (which I've had happen before), she went and got a bag and carefully placed the box in the bag. How awesome is that?! She and all of the staff were wonderful and attentive. Should I find myself in or near Bardstown in the future. I will definitely return and I'll recommend that my coworkers do the same when they travel out that way.

Just finished our meal and my husband literally started clapping afterwards it was that good. He got catfish and I got the steak. Both were perfect portions and just simply amazing. We also split a side of rolls and black eyed peas. The rolls were sooooooo delicious. And the black eyed peas were awesome as well. We literally were licking our plates at the end. We are in town visiting from a big city in Illinois. This is literally the best meal I have ever had.

The Harrison Smith House opened up last week, where Circa use to be located. This is a must go-to restaurant in Bardstown. We met a couple for Sunday brunch. My husband got steak and eggs and was extremely pleased with his meal. I got the pan fried country ham and cheese sandwich with blackberry jam. The sandwich just melted in mouth. This comfort food was extremely satisfying, yet had a fine dining quality to it. It's hard to find a fine quality restaurant in Bardstown, and now I'm extremely thrilled to not have to drive to Louisville to dine at one. The menu rotates based on what's in season, so I'm excited to see what's in store!

What a Wonderful experience. The owners of this farm to table style restaurant have developed a true gem. We had the Crispy Chicken Thighs and the Smoked Pork. Both plates were delicious with wonderful presentation that was complimented by the attentive wait staff. Our water glasses were never less than half full! The owners whose names I fail to remember were constantly checking on us and seeing to our every need. They also shared some of the history of the HSH which is a wonderful setting for this type of southern fare. We were truly pleased with the entire experience. Their selection of locally produced spirits is also quite impressive. I thoroughly enjoyed the Willet 2 year Rye. We hope to return on our next Bourbon tour!

Calling this place a gem isn't good enough. This is the best restaurant I've been to in I can't remember how long. First, the food: if you come here and do not order the yeast rolls, you should be smacked. They are the best rolls I've ever eaten. Admittedly, they've got a very decent amount of butter soaked into them. Sinfully decadent. You've been warned. Both the boy and I ordered the panko crusted pork chop with rice grits and roasted brussels sprouts. Now, pork chops are not only something I enjoy. I could make a career around pork chops. These were absolutely delicious, and cooked perfectly. Both of us were greedily gnawed on our bones afterwards. My guy even tried taking my bone away from me. I growled and he backed down. Even though we were stuffed, we had to order the banana pudding. This is one of the best I've ever had. Creamy, fresh banana slices interspersed throughout the luscious pudding, with squishy Nilla wafers layered throughout. Amazing. Ok, so the food itself is absolutely, ABSOLUTELY worth the trip, but the people here...seriously the people are just astounding. We called them twice on Saturday night, once to try and get reservations at 9:15 pm (they close at 10 pm), and then again to see if we could push our reservation to 9:25 pm. When we got there, we were the only two people in the entire restaurant. Even though we were obviously the last table of the night, and actually stayed past closing, the host and our waitress were complete gems. Super friendly and attentive, they were just such a pleasure to speak to. I mentioned to the host that I hadn't ever tried country ham, and without another word he turned on his heels and went back into the kitchen. A minute later he came back with two cute little deviled eggs topped with their country ham for us to try. He couldn't let us go without trying it (scrumptious, by the way). I am a certified food nerd. I am obsessed with learning about food, cooking food, doing anything related to food. If you are a food geek yourself, you will love the attention and obsession these guys have with food. Forget being in Bardstown again; if I'm ever in Kentucky, I'm coming here.

A good restaurant is comprised of two major elements: good food and good service. The service element was somewhat missing in our visit to Harrison Smith House during our vacation (although we made good efforts to be friendly to our server initially). This, of course, ruined our meal and good time. About the food part, simple dishes such as grilled pork and baked apple were excellent. Appetizer dishes were overall good, but unimpressive. Perhaps, our expectations to this local "gem" from enthusiastic Yelp reviews were probably a little too much. Sigh...

This was a wonderful and memorable experience. Stating with the warm welcome as we walked in the front door, to the ambiance of the 1790 historic home turned Restaurant, the evening was beyond our expectation. The braised lamb shoulder, served over a pilaf and ratatouille was delicious. The lamb was moist and cooked to perfection. My husband had the grilled pork loin over corn bread dressing, and All we could say during the first few bites was yumm. This is a scratch kitchen - serving freshly butchered meats and most all the vegetables grown on premise or from a local farmers market. Don't drive by, stop and have lunch or dinner here. Wish we lived close by, this would be one of our favorite regular restaurants.

Amazing! So happy we made reservations prior to our visit in Bardstown. I had the smoked pork shoulder and my husband a shrimp dish. This was by far one of the best meals I have had in a long time. I was told by a few it seemed pricey but you pay for what you get. The atmosphere, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly staff not to mention the farm to table style menu. I am just sad that we do not live closer and we're not in town for the Sunday barbecue.

This restaurant is simply amazing. I have to say one of the best meals I have ever had in my life and I have traveled the world. The staff there is also exceptional. I live six hours away, but I am looking forward to going back very soon.

This place was amazing! The food (while fancy) is a good size portion and it's actually really delicious. The menu changes weekly though.
