Food: I like to consider myself a breakfast sandwich connoisseur. I'm fairly picky and I am not easily impressed. Needless to say we came here twice on our short stay because the sammies were THAT good. We had the egg sammie both times - once with the english muffin and once with the house made biscuit. Immediately after biting into the biscuit I felt like kicking myself for not ordering it the day before. It was hands down the best biscuit I've ever had. It was the perfect amount of flaky savory goodness. The fresh chives baked in added unexpected flavors and made the biscuit look pretty perched on your plate. We added bacon and sausage to the sammies too. Both times we were very happy. Smoky flavors and cooked to perfection. Service: The staff and owner were super friendly. I really enjoyed that the owner recognized repeat customers and made everyone feel like a regular. It was very apparent that he loved his job. Ambience: Very relaxed and casual. You could come in sweats or a more dressy outfit and I don't think anyone would judge. Other: The set up was cool. There were tables outside on a patio like area or downstairs. They are also dog friendly. Our local friends who took us there brought their new pup, as did plenty of other customers. The owner even brought out water dishes for them. Super nice. Plus it gave me a chance to drool over other people's puppies!

I started visiting this place as an inviting study nook during my endless hours of graduate work. It also happens to have a tasty menu if you want more than just a latte :) I haven't eaten a huge variety on the menu, but what I have sampled - mainly sweet pastries, muffins, and scones - are fresh and delicious. The ambience is cozy but sophisticated, with leather armchairs situated next to a wrought-iron stove in one corner and intimate booths at the other corner. Service is fast and friendly, and I've never had my drink blended not to my satisfaction. If you're in the neighborhood and want a delicious and inviting place for lunch or a coffee break, definitely visit the Anchorage Cafe!

Quite simply, one of the best cafes I have eaten at. Bar none. Came for just a cup of joe and a small muffin. But the ham and leek-biscuit breakfast sandwich caught my eye. Good call, because it was outstanding. The cured ham was sweet, not too salty, and melts in your mouth. The leek biscuits were the perfect combination with the ham and sweet stone ground mustard. Talk with a guy (owner or manager) and we spoke about how all their ingredients were locally grown and sourced. Made my breakfast even better.

Had french press coffee and the chocolate cake. It's a nice quaint place with a cottage feel. The chocolate cake was made in house (but was a little heavy for my taste). The coffee was nice. Overall a good experience but nothing out of the ordinary.

This may be off the beaten path for many Louisville residents, but it is well worth the drive to Anchorage Cafe for their superb small plates menu that is served on evenings (Thursday through Saturday). Three friends accompanied me to dinner, and we made sure to sample as much as we could. The charcuterie is a must, served with mortadella dotted with pistachios, salty prosciutto with bacon and honey, and rabbit liver pate smeared on house-baked bread studded with currants. The cheese and crackers impressed us even more, especially the peppery Sapori d'Italia, served with sliced strawberries and a thick balsamic syrup. We each ordered a small plate and chose to share. The duck con fit with sweet potato hash was lovely, and was topped with a poached duck egg. The egg was so perfectly cooked, the only way to describe the yolk is "sexy." My favorite dish of the night was the rabbit with gnudi, which are similar to gnocchi (only made with ricotta instead of potato). They were pillowy, soft and decadent--think of the filling of cheese ravioli turned into a dumpling. The waitress and chef were both extremely friendly and helpful, and they were kind enough to let us sample a few dishes on the house. A duck con fit pizza topped with arugula and another sexy poached egg was stunning, and the house-made pawpaw ice cream was fragrant with nutmeg and perfectly accompanied by a crispy walnut topping. Some strong, fine coffee rounded out the evening. I recommend this place to anyone who enjoys an affordable fine dining experience. Delicious! **This was a review I wrote on Urbanspoon in 2011, and I am copying it to Yelp. EDIT: It appears that Anchorage Cafe has discontinued their weekend tapas menu, but Chef Andrew Myers is currently at The Holy Grale.

I came back to Louisville to visit friends (alright, alright, the food and drinks were also motivation), and this was on the list of places I must go. They have been featured in several publications, and all have raved over the menu; which is saying something, as the Metromix 2012 best restaurant is next door. This cafe is close to where I worked when I lived in 'The Lou" and I would frequent this place often. Bruce (the owner) works to source his food locally, which means that the menu changes frequently depending on what is in season and available. The chef does an excellent job of getting quality food and putting together a delicious meal. The lunch menu consists mostly of soups, salads, and sandwiches; there is a regular menu, along with features for the day/week. I went with the Marksbury smoked ham with Kenny's black pepper cheese, lettuce, mayo, on Blue Dog's cereal bread. Blue Dog is a town favorite when it comes to bread, and glad to see Anchorage using them now for their sandwiches. The sandwich did not let me down; it reminded me of why this was on the must go to list. Now, I didn't mean to deceive anyone as I raved about the lunch menu, but this is a cafe, and they also have great coffee and pastries. The coffee is from Argo Sons (Matt used to work at the cafe, and decided to start his own roasting business), and they bake their own pastries in house. I had the chocolate/caramel pie and an Americano. The staff is also very friendly, and you will probably see Bruce talking with customers and seeing what people like and what can be done better.

Beautiful space, I would've been content spending the whole day there. There were many things on the menu I would've been happy to try. I went for the Pimento Sandwich with a side of pickle and my friend had the Turkey Sandwich on a Pretzel Roll. Both sandwiches were tasty, we would order them again. The Raspberry and Banana Italian Soda I got was really good, but a bit sweet for me. My friend's Mango Smoothie was excellent. Their bakery case had a whole bunch of goodies in it, and the drink menu had a little something for everyone. The staff was really sweet and patient. There's no reason I wouldn't go back for more!

After a confusing first few minutes and some assistance from a helpful employee (do we park in front or back?--wherever you want; are there inside tables?--yes, downstairs; is there a server?--yes/no, you order at the counter and they bring it to you), my parents and I enjoyed a delicious Sunday brunch. It was hands down the best brunch in the area. Fresh, local ingredients were well-prepared, beautifully served, and eagerly consumed. Delicious! I am often disappointed with meals out, particularly brunch, and this was simply phenomenal. The sweets were also delightful. We picked some up before we left. The prices are very reasonable, considering the location and the local ingredients; most items run from about $6-$9. Portions seem small by modern standards, but I was quite full when we left. I'll definitely be visiting again!

The food at Anchorage Cafe sets a new standard for restaurants everywhere. I highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich or the poached eggs. The service however is lacking the thoughtfulness one would expect to accompany such a unique and delightful place. We had to trudge back upstairs several times for things the waitresses forgot to bring with our food (fork, drinks, napkins). Even still, I was so happy with the setting and the food that this place ranks 5 stars in my book. One thing to note is that it is right next to a much swankier restaurant. A newbie could easily walk into the wrong restaurant, so just be careful! Come for a meal, pastry, or just a coffee and you will experience something unlike any other cafe you've ever been to.

The wife and I frequently make weekend trips to Louisville to pickup items and shop for things we can't find in our rural KY community. As is our habit we explore new dining experiences each visit. This week, after much debate, we decided to try Anchorage Cafe based on Yelp reviews I'd read. The Yelp reviews are RIGHT ON THE MARK for this place....great food, nice atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. My Chicken and Grits was great and an unexpected dish for this little Cafe. My wife had the Farmers Burger on pretzel roll that was delicious...cooked exactly the way she requested. For desert we shared a deliciious slice of home made Pecan pie...not as good as my wifes P-pie, but not bad to top off this dining experience. This is a great little spot that we are adding to our favorites list. We will be back next time in Louisville.

Without extolling Anchorage Cafe's virtues over the course of 5,000 words, I'll simply note that they are very much on par with Intelligentsia Coffee's shops in Chicago. This is, very simply, the best coffee shop you will find in Louisville.

This is my favorite cafe in Louisville. The people are super friendly, the pastries are AMAZING, they offer a children's menu that is reasonably priced (grilled cheese, PB&J), they have local/organic/healthy options, good sandwiches/salads, and the espresso is prepared well (usually). It's also beautiful inside. My only complaint is that they suffer from the ever-so-annoying-problem of inconsistency with the drinks. Matt makes excellent drinks. No one else makes them as well as he does. I hate walking in to a place and knowing that since my favorite barista is not there, my drink will only be "ok". But, their "ok" drinks are far better than most drinks you can find anywhere in town, including $tarbucks (not that that says anything, but if you are a $tarbucks regular, I suggest trying this place because it will be much better coffee and you will be supporting a local business). I am a huge fan of this place, and I love to support what they are doing.

I am currently reviewing Anchorage Cafe as a coffee house, because that is what I went there for and all I had. I am always on the lookout for good coffee, and I heard that there was this cafe in Anchorage that served good coffee. So, I made the trip to the east end to see what this place was all about. Location: Anchorage is a small place nestled between Hurstbourne Pkwy, Westport Rd, 265, and Shelbyville Rd. I haven't explored the area fully, but it's pretty separated from the busy roads mentioned above. Anchorage Cafe is a two story unit, with the kitchen and barista bar on the top floor and seating downstairs. You can enter from either floor, with parking available for both. The inside is clean and comfortably warm (temperature-wise); I'm so tired of freezing cold coffee houses. There are a couple of bar stools for the counter upstairs, but most of the seating is downstairs. The downstairs seating is primarily wooden tables and chairs, though there are a couple cushioned chairs. I was a bit wary of carrying my coffee down a flight of stairs, but I definitely appreciated the separation from the noisy bean grinding that is the norm for coffee shops. The bathrooms are single units, one for men (for sure) and one for women (I'm assuming). The men's restroom was spacious and clean. I wish there was a changing table in there for those with babies. Service and Coffee: I am combining service and coffee sections. The service here was excellent, though I have to say I was there after the lunch hour rush, so take that into account. I was able to have a nice conversation with the barista, Matt, who was very knowledgeable about their coffees. I wanted to try a single origin coffee in a pour over. We discussed a couple options for what kind of pour over, and I followed his recommendation, though it was different from what I usually prefer. He poured me an excellent cup of coffee. I think the barista is an integral part of the final product (along with bean quality, roasting method, grind method). I also had very pleasant conversations with another barista and the owner. They offer Counter Culture coffee, which is excellent. They offer house blends, which I usually don't have and didn't here, and a couple single origin beans. They say they only use beans that are no older than two weeks (from roast date) on their site, and they are open to sharing roast dates in person, which I like. I got a cup of the Ethiopian (Worka) as a pour over and bought a bag of the Papua New Guinea (Baroida). Both are very high quality and full of flavor. I can't chime in on their house blends and regular drip coffee, but I would assume that it would be enjoyable for most just looking for a nice, hot cup of coffee. Conclusion: I am really happy to find another coffee house in Louisville that offers high quality coffee, and has baristas with the skills to handcraft a good cup of coffee but who don't act snobby about coffee. They also seem to really care about being a part of the Anchorage community, which I am not a part of but appreciate. I would like to try their food some time.

Such a cute little place!! Anchorage is beautiful anyway, and they nailed the ambiance at this cafe. I have been for weekend brunch twice, and my boyfriend and I have not been disappointed. The food is good, appropriately-sized portions, and tastes fresh. I really enjoyed the cappuccino, but my British boyfriend was not excited about the tea. Overall, cute & quaint spot great for a casual meal and nice conversation.

SO DISAPPOINTED! :( I had heard so many great things about this place and had yet to try it, so I decided to take my mom to lunch here recently on a beautiful, cool summer day. I went in ASSUMING it was going to be great...it didn't even occur to me that we wouldn't love it. Boy, was I wrong! Because there were so many things that were bad other than the food itself, I just figured I'd list them (in order of appearance): 1) Menu online doesn't match the actual menu, either for prices or items listed 2) While it was cool out, the inside was very hot and muggy and flies were buzzing around everywhere, making it very unappetizing 3) The first 3 things we tried to order they were out of (e.g, soda machine wasn't working, no ham for the pork sandwich, ice cream, etc) 4) The gal taking the orders was not friendly and rushed us along 5) Mango tea had not an even remote flavor of mango and little ice that melted quickly 6) They planned their product delivery (you know, all that stuff they were out of) during the lunch rush and were trying to squeeze past people while carrying big boxes 7) Probably the worst thing was watching the presumed owner (a middle-aged man) allow his female staff member to carry several boxes of product from the truck in the parking lot upstairs to the restaurant while he casually chatted with customers and looked around outside. There was one point when she had what was clearly a heavy box she had just carried up the stairs and I thought for sure when he saw her he was going to grab it and carry it in, but INSTEAD he simply stepped out of her way so she could pass by. Not at all the sign of a gentleman or a leader. As for the food, again, it was NOT GOOD :( I ordered a chicken salad sandwich. It was absolutely forgettable. I don't think it even had salt or pepper and was therefore incredibly bland. My mom ordered a pulled pork sandwich that was very fatty and not 'pulled'. The chips were sparse and over-fried. The best thing about our meal were the homemade pickle slices we received as a garnish. THOSE were good. Sigh...I wish this review could have gone totally differently. Unfortunately, the ball was in the cafe's court and they totally threw that sucker outta bounds. Next time, we will stick with the Village Anchor.

Stumbled across this place after I left the gym. It's in a quit little area called Anchorage, the whole front is shaded and sits across from some active railroad tracks. I couldn't believe that they were still serving breakfast at 330pm...win! The egg on croissant sandwich was amazing! The service was very friendly, the way you would expect a little mom/pop place to be. Huge bonus! If you have your shoes on and want a nice little walk, mosey on out the back down to the anchorage trail...it's 2 miles round trip, quiet and very pretty!

I've seen Anchorage Cafe several times over the past few years on my way to the Village Anchor, but hadn't stopped in before yesterday morning. A friend who lives in Anchorage mentioned that they made delicious breakfast/lunch and were a quiet place to work on your laptop. Sounded like exactly what I needed during my brief stay in the outer part of the East End! Being that it was 9 am, I was so ready for a hot breakfast. They have a small, but thoughtful menu that includes locally sourced products as well as a large bakery case. I chose a fried egg and cheese sandwich on a house-made, chive biscuit ($4.75) and a can of San Pellegrino ($2.25). Many locals swear by their coffee offerings, but with this humidity I wanted something cold and juice like. I took a seat downstairs, where all the inside seating is located, and fired up the laptop. Several outlets in the room allowed for four of us to work without having to share an outlet/space. My breakfast was served soon after ordering and it was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever seen. A large, flaky biscuit with egg and melty, cheddar cheese arrived in a basket with a few grapes on the side for garnish. I had been asked at the counter how I liked my egg cooked and the over medium was perfection! I got my work done while enjoying a savory breakfast in this light-filled, open space. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Anchorage during morning/brunch hours.

FOOD TO TASTES LIKE REFRIGERATOR & ATTITUDE NOT NECESSARY. Anchorage Cafe delivers on a lot of great things, but unfortunately you'll get a healthy dose of attitude with every serving. The girls at the front must hate their jobs. We frequent Anchorage Cafe for their delicious Cafe Mieles, but I'm ready to call that quits. Could they hire someone with people skills & enough energy to produce a smile every once in awhile? Four times in a row their baked goods from the display case have TASTED LIKE THE DISPLAY CASE. Not even my six year old would eat the homemade Oreo. Each time I called as soon as we'd driven away & kindly explained the issue, noting that they may want to look into it. The response was annoyance & the girl acted like I was the problem. Again, rude. Take your business to Quills, where people are friendly, the desserts are delicious & the coffee is incredible!

Oh my goodness. This little place is just so quaint and comfortable. One of my best friends recently moved to Birmingham and she was in town for a weekend and we decided to grab lunch here. What a perfect choice!! As soon as you walk up (especially on a beautiful, sunny day in spring), you feel like you're in a scene from a movie. The trees and outdoor seating area are a perfect place to sit and chat while you drink coffee and catch up with a friend. They list their daily specials outside and there are more choices on the menu inside. It all sounded so delicious, it was hard to not order one of everything! I ended up going with the superfood salad, and my friend got the banana bread (yum!) and we both had iced coffee. Anchorage Cafe is definitely going to become a regular spot for me!

Early afternoon on a Saturday in fall, this is a pretty drive and a picturesque spot for a brunch. The outside tables are iron, the foliage is pretty, there are lots of families and cyclists seated. This seems to be the normal clientele. Inside it appears more like a coffee shop than an eatery. There are baked goods in the display case and beverage items to the side. A small sign with the newest dishes listed sits out front. The staff isn't exactly welcoming. You won't get a chirpy greeting or any conversation. If you're new, they won't tell you that you need to wait for your drink and they'll bring your food to you. They aren't rude, just don't expect the height of hospitality. This is rather evident by the 10 signs posted in the building about restrooms being for customers only. The coffee is excellent. Not a smidge of bitterness to be found. The cafe mocha has just the right balance between coffee and sweetness. The food dishes are made with many locally sourced ingredients. Their taste is decent. Really, the draw is the coffee. If the temperature is right to eat outside, eat outside. If you choose to eat inside, the traffic from out to in will insure that you eat with flies.

I really dread doing this review because I want this place all to myself, LOL!! I ordered a fried egg and cheese on a pretzel croissant and added a house made sausage patty and a mocha coffee. Oh my goodness! Sooooo good! Especially the sausage! So when my brother asked me if I wanted to go to breakfast the next day, I told him he needed to try this place so we went again. I ordered the same thing but added yet another sausage patty to my sandwich. The lemon bread is amazing and I'm not even a big lemon bread fan. We also tried the eclair and coconut macaroon. I am impressed. I love the atmosphere and scenery. You order upstairs and the tables are downstairs. I think it has a New England feel to it. Just so you know, the small table downstairs on the right...on the weekends, it's mine. If I see you there and you look like you read this review, just know I will hover and stare at you if you're sitting at *my* table. You best get moving is all I have to say. I hope I don't regret writing this review!

Adorable little cafe next to an amazing walking trail! We just moved here and this has become a staple place to eat/get coffee a couple times a week. Just a heads up to moms, this cafe is not super stroller friendly unless you are sitting outside (indoor eating area is downstairs).

Loved Anchorage Cafe. Came here on a rainy Monday morning (Memorial Day) and definitely enjoyed my breakfast. You order at the counter and they bring your food out. I ordered their coffee, egg white wrap, and shared the potato salad with my friend. All of the food was wonderful. The wrap had egg whites, spinach, mushrooms, goat cheese, and pesto. Never would have put those together, but it really hit the spot. It's located in a very serene location, which I definitely enjoyed. Highly recommend!

Smallish seeming place that looks more like a coffee shop at first glance. Don't be fooled, the food here is totally worth a try. The pulled pork is as a good as any BBQ restaurant and comes with a fresh, homemade pickle. If you're here on a nice day be sure and eat outside.

This place is great! Nice cafe with plenty of options in the middle of anchorage. Anchorage trail/park is right next to the cafe nice place to go and hang outside. The turkey sandwich on the pretzel bun was great, the chicken salad was also very good! They also have some good looking deserts, we will have to try one next time.

I'd chime in with others regarding not wanting to share this little gem, but it wouldn't be fair! Anchorage Cafe is a fabulous place to have breakfast on Saturday mornings after a nice walk on the Anchorage Trail. I've been a few times, only for breakfast, but it's hard to get those chive biscuits out of my mind. The biscuit sandwich is SO GOOD. And if you're looking for a fun espresso drink that is available year-round, try the Anchorage trail latte. Outdoor seating is excellent, but don't miss the expansive downstairs seating as well! I can't wait for more warm weather so I can spend more time out here.

The food was delightful and reasonably priced. I ordered the Farmer's Breakfast to get a sample of everything, and others in my party had breakfast sandwiches and the caprese benedict. We all left with clean plates. The only thing that keeps me from 5-stars is the seating availability. Upon arrival, the outside patio was mostly full, but it is all metal chairs and tables. We happened to select a very uncomfortable table with wobbly chairs on the cobblestone patio. Only when leaving did I notice that there is a second patio around back, with plentiful (and much more comfortable looking) outdoor dining. If we return, I will definitely go to the back patio. My dog gives it 2 stars. He did not like the cyclists' clacking shoes, loud voices and/or tight pants- not sure which. He barked nervously at their approach. He will join me on the back patio.

Have gone here for several years, and used to enjoy some sort of consistency with coffee and pastry. I still love the eclairs, but find the rest of the pastries to be way overly sweet and unsophisticated. At one time, the coffee bar would make a coffee shake, in summer, with ice cream and espresso, just as one would expect it to be made. Went in recently and the barista claims the shake is no longer on the menu, and they make frappes, etc. with powder - the usual crap. NO effort to help the customer, acknowledge how easy it would be to just make one . . . I suppose poor effort from an employee only reflects poor ownership and poor training with no emphasis on personal touches or customizations. WTH? How complicated would it be to make a customer's drink? Mine are better at home anyway . . . maybe the constant annoyance of smoke in the kitchen from whatever smoking/cooking/grilling is going on just makes employees disgruntled. LOST A CUSTOMER TODAY PERMANENTLY. No more visits, no more introductions to new people, no more cash. Not wasting my time on trips out here to hear this kind of story. Good coffee bars/cafes don't hesitate to make drinks that long-time customers have had before, or, Coffee Gods forbid, create a new drink the customer suggests! That's how it used to be done before the "third wave of Me" in coffee shops. Good owners know this and train accordingly. Thus..... one star here, stay away unless you just have to sit in the outdoor patio somewhere for brunch. I write coffee/pastry reviews though. Go in town somewhere else!

Came again on our way down south this year. Except it was so good we stopped twice. Once on the way down and once on the way up. A few highlights Brioche french toast is out of this world. The raspberry pancakes were excellent, but I would say I prefer the blueberry pancakes. The breakfast sandwich with bacon, fried egg and cheese on a biscuit was one of the best I have ever had. The grits slayed as always. And finally the smoked pork and hash browns with 2 poached eggs were really good. It came with guacamole which was unexpected but it was ok. Not really into it. Otherwise everything was fantastic. Also make sure you check out the bakery. We tried a florentine, which was good but not earth shattering. Same goes for the chocolate biscotti. But the macaroons more than made up for anything. I have never had a macaroon like these. Seriously blown away. We will be back next year for sure and if you live in this great city and are sleeping on this place you are insane. Get into it.

I frequent this quaint, welcoming place at least twice a month. Their coffee and espresso options are phenomenal and as good as you will find anywhere in Louisville. I am a big fan of their espresso, the best quality I've had in the area. Anchorage has a wonderful, pleasant feel all it's own, and this spot fits right in. Though I usually don't order food, everything I've tasted was high quality and delicious, though maybe a tad more expensive than some. This place is certainly worth a try!

Visited Louisville, KY for the first time on Derby weekend and Anchorage Cafe was on of the must go to places on my friend's, Jacob M, list. We went for brunch on Saturday, May 4, 2013 - I am so happy to have experienced it. The cafe is located in between an "antiques" home decorator shop and another restaurant, the structure of the buildings make it a picture perfect scene. When you first enter the cafe you are facing their desserts and pastries, which to me of course meant, I must eat my dessert first. I ordered a milk chocolate cupcake with coconut. YUM. It took every ounce of self control and decorum in my body to not order another and patiently wait for my breakfast. I ordered the farmers breakfast (two eggs, ham, bacon, biscuit and hash browns). One of the things that absolutely loved about Anchorage Cafe is that the menu items list which farm the item comes from. From the eggs to the cheese, you will know which farm it was brought from. At first I was confused and thought it was the style in which it was cooked, I quickly found out that the name before the ingredient is the source. As you can see from the pictures I posted, our meals were freshly made - what you can see is how delicious they were. Service was very friendly, the owner was at the counter when we placed our orders and thanked my friend for bringing us to his establishment. I loved Anchorage Cafe, the food was amazing and I loved the location. I can't wait to come back again to try it during a different mealtime.

Just had lunch at this wonderful establishment. The food was fantastic for a quick bite and the staff was very friendly. I had never been here before and a young lady cammi was very knowledgeable about them menu and what was good. I ordered the smoked pork this is a must have item, very tasty.

It's almost too good to share how great Anchorage Cafe is. Almost. One of our favorite ways to spend a weekend morning is coffee (SO GOOD) and sweets from the bakery case at Anchorage Cafe and a hike on the trail. Fewer things are sweeter. First, my personal favorite is the mochas. Best in Louisville. Squeaking in at second is the bacon cheddar chive scone. Life changing. Third? Anything else IN the bakery case. Gluttony? Maybe. Do I care? No. Macaroons, cupcakes, pies, ingredients fine enough for royalty and baked to perfection. You're welcome. Seriously.

In June of 2012 the Courier-Journal gave this restaurant a very good review and I took their advice and visited many times. At that time the Anchorage Cafe offered small-plate dinners that were outstanding and chef Andrew Myers made great meals. Since then chef Myers has long since left and so have the small-plate menu which was replaced by a brunch menu. The Anchorage Cafe went from perhaps the "best" over looked restaurant (due in part to its being next to the Village Anchor) to a good eatery. The food isn't the same, the last time that we went the fish tacos were even dropped on to my table top. The food just doesn't measure up to what it had been, its still good just not what it was. And my pet peeve is that the website used to be updated on a regular basis to reflect the dinner specials which are now called brunch specials, I always looked forward to those updates but that doesn't happen these days. Even the facebook page isn't updated prior to Fridays brunch time and many restaurants like this one seem to over look that some of us are willing to make a 35-40 minute drive for a great product but with the Anchorage Cafe having such a limited brunch menu why don't they do something basic like updating facebook which would cost them ZERO overhead. Not all of us are limited to breakfast, coffee or pastries. Instead I used to like this place to be the start of a good weekend with a nice dinner.

Immediate love for this place. I cannot believe such a fabulous cafe is hidden in Anchorage, KY. Anchorage Cafe boasts local food and coffee (calling themselves a "farm-to-table" destination, which I love,) and serves breakfast, lunch, and weekend evening dinners in addition to the full service espresso bar. (And craft beers, wine, and treats... so much happiness in one place!) The company uses current harvests and fresh market finds, so the menu is consistently changing. The sign outside proudly showed off the special autumn drinks, so I deliberated for a while over the numerous craft choices. Toasted Marshmallow Latte? Salted Caramel Mocha? Cherry Almond Mocha? Maple Spice Latte? With so many decadent choices, the patient and super knowledgeable barista helped guide me toward my final decision of a Pumpkin Spice Latte. It was so perfect, I almost bought a second cup on my way out. I was momentarily upset when I saw there were only a couple of barstools surrounding the bar, as I was hoping to have found another coffee shop office in this area of town. But alas, Anchorage Cafe came through for me, offering a complete downstairs level with numerous booths and tables and outlets... spacious enough to set up my laptop and far enough away from the loud bar to have some quiet work space. Even if you aren't a frequenter of this area like me, this cafe is definitely worth the trip to the east-end. Local, delicious, cozy, sophisticated, and thoughtfully crafted.
