Burgers on Hawaiian rolls are yummy. I think if you go in knowing what you are getting it will set your expectations better. This is 3 little burgers and a huge basket of fries. The Hawaiian roll bun makes the burger that would otherwise just be a burger. Worst thing was the location which is set at a terrible angle so you can easily miss it from the street. Come try it out, don't come in with high expectations, but enjoy a little something different.

I've been there twice now as I bought the Groupon that is 4 separate $5 deals. They need to step up their fry game as they appear to be frozen crinkle cut ore-idas. Maybe try some truffle fries or even waffle fries? Anyway I have enjoyed the burgers both times, the onions were grilled and was all that it needed in my opinion. If they could fix the fry situation I think it would be a decent little place for sliders. I went once after noon and had to wait a bit, then I went before noon the next time and didn't wait long at all. There was only a lady working both times and it's easy to get behind.

two months later, and they're sliding off the rails. It took 45 MINUTES to get a bag of 10 slider burgers, and there were only 3 orders ahead of us. The burgers were fine (aside from buns that were sliced crookedly), the peel-on fries have been replaced by standard crinkle-cut bagged fries, and the onion rings, although freshly breaded, were cold, limp, and there was only 4 onion rings for $1.99. Yes, there was only one guy running the place, but no one wants to wait 45 minutes for burgers that cook in 5 minutes or less. And while we didn't get any napkins in the bag, we DID get 29 packets of mustard and ketchup.

For as much as White Castle is tied to the history of Wichita (and the history of the modern hamburger), there hasn't been much of an attempt to replicate their product. When you think about it, aside from White Castle and their doppelganger to the south (Krystal), there's very few belly busters being offered in non-fast food restaurants. Maybe it's because the diminutive size was a necessity a century ago when clean meat was harder to come by, and people couldn't afford a lot of it. In an era where half-pound patties are the norm and I can order a sextuple monstrosity from Spangles, we live in a culture that doesn't lack for beef. I guess the other reason you don't see a lot of restaurants offering gut bombs is because they are a bit of an acquired taste. If we use White Castle as a template (again, if only because there's little else on which to build a consensus), the slider should be steamed to some degree - if not the burgers, than at least the buns. This provides a texture - or lack thereof - that serves as a signature, even if it misses significant opportunities to improve the flavor of the burger. Browned food tastes good, whether from the caramelizing sugars in some properly-cooked onions, or the changing proteins during the Maillard reaction occurring on the crust of my burger. Some browning should also occur on the bun, the toasted faces of it providing some textural difference to the meat as well as allowing it to structurally stand up to its juices. Whether steaming it or toasting it, do something with the bun other than serve it to me straight out of the bag. Plain white buns are unappetizing. The grilled patties were nicely proportional, average of average quality of beef, and sprinkled with a little steak seasoning or something. No real problems there. The onions weren't steamed, thankfully, but got cooked for a bit on the grill. I was pleased to see they were browned quite a bit, and together with a slice of pickle, served as all the toppings you need. Fries were out of a brown paper sack and barely cooked through. Salted when they came out of the fryer, though. While I was waiting for my order, I overheard another table talking about the legality of using Wimpy, from the Popeye comics, as the source of inspiration for the restaurant. I wondered about it too - Wikipedia says the comic's copyright is maintained for 95 years after from creation, on account of Elize Crisler Segar being a contract artist for United King Features at the time, so it's protected until 2025. While you wouldn't think the modern day would have much marketability for a surly, smoking, spinach-eating sailor and his anorexic girlfriend, Sony is preparing a new Popeye movie for 2015, so Wimpy's Burgers may very well go the way of that In and Out downtown that used to serve fried chicken, Pasta Piazza (née Bravo's Italian), and the soon-to-be-renamed Whole Foods health food stores. Besides, the name doesn't really make sense to me - why would Wimpy be offering us burgers at all? Wouldn't he want them all to himself? Maybe he's selling to Peter in order to pay Paul to make up for all of the earlier borrowed burger money. And if Wimpy, that burger-loving fool, made burgers for us, wouldn't he be more likely to offer us a big ol' burger? Unless the simple-minded man merely pursues the largest quantity of burgers, regardless of size. That's probably it. This location is a bit far west to enjoy the heaviest Douglas traffic of Delano, and the angular corner construction of the facade makes it difficult to see from the street from the east. I like the concept, but the burger construction could stand to be improved.

Went one Friday night at 8:30pm and they were supposed to be open till 11pm. They were closed, lights off, door locked, open sign in the screen door. Went back next week, ordered 10 cheese burgers, onion rings, and fried pickles. The burgers came with grilled onions, one pickle, and the patty, that had no seasoning. Watched the chick take it straight from the box and on the grill. Needless to say, the the burger was bland, the bun fell apart and was stale. I also asked for Ketchup and Mustard since there was nothing on the burger, and I got 3 ketchup packets, and 3 mustard packets. Nowhere near enough. Plus with the stale bun that was then stuck to the cheese, it was impossible to eat and enjoy. The onion rings could have used a little more salt, and the fried pickles were way too salty. Overall a total fail.......

I tried a new local burger joint that serves White Castle style burgers. The ambience is pretty simple and the space is pretty small. Seats about 13 people. The burgers overall were just ok, nothing spectacular or amazing stood out. The positive: the french fries were good The negative: they didn't have ice tea as an option as it wasn't hooked up yet and the bun was crumbly
