This is an awesome place for Sandwiches, Soups and Salads. Easy order as you come in, get seated and quick to get food. Always bustling with people, and different soup and sandwich items to switch it up on a daily basis. The quality is great and I've actually become spoiled with such great soup that I rarely like any others unless they are homemade as well! The only reason I've withheld one Star is due to a few times when placing a call-in for pick-up, I've been extremely disappointed to arrive only to be told that the soup I'd ordered had sold out. I wish the order taker would check the availability before taking the order, most times that is the reason for choosing Tanya's for pick-up that day and no time for plan B once I'm already there. One more item for the "Suggestion Box", how about plastic "Soup Spoons" rather than the regular plastic spoons for To-Go orders, the regular ones tend to cut the mouth/lips + hot soup = not so good. Other than that, love the Tanya's team and the food!

Was driving into town on a Friday night and needed a place that would satisfy foodies, a vegetarian, and 2 kids. Yelp led me here, and we were not disappointed -- the tomato curry with jasmine rice soup was really good (the 8 year old like it!), the fruit gazpacho was sweet and cool, and the sandwiches were crusty and flavorful. Bread pudding was smooth and sweet. Service was fast and helpful. We'd go again, if we didn't live an 8 hour drive away.

I really like this place. The salads and sandwiches are very good, and the soups are fantastic. I recommend getting the flight of samples to try each soup, and if you really like one, then order a bowl. Cool atmosphere and staff. Plus, it is right across the street from the Donut Whole (one of my favorite places in Wichita). All in all, eat here. You won't be disappointed.

Never a bad meal. I love the city chicken sandwich and most of the soups. Best iced tea in town. Top notch service. One of Wichita's best.

Had forgotten how good was the food at Tanya's Kitchen!! So glad she is back cooking up those awesome soups and sandwiches!!!

I've had better food, and the service was less than desirable. Kind of rude actually! I won't be returning. I don't see what all the hooplah was about. Also, pretty expensive for the amount of food you get.

The Cream of Mushroom soup is bowl-lickingly good.

Simple, yet insanely delicious. That tomato curry soup on Fridays? YUM. Yes, it is pricey for soup... but oh, so worth it! Fresh and wholesome ingredients. Flavors to dazzle the midday palate... If you haven't tried the bread pudding, indulge yourself. Totally worth the calories. If Tanya ever decides to take this restaurant public, be sure to get in on the ground as an investor at the IPO. It is that good.

First time trying their soup today. And I made the bad decision of getting a large size soup instead of a small. And the first couple bites delicious, of course. But the soup was so creamy and thick that I was full within five scoops. And had very much left over. It was still delicious and great environment. Although when you first walk in it was a little bit confusing to how the restaurant works but after a while I got the hang of it.

Yeah - I'm all about this soup life. What's not to love? A great space in a great location, with a very nice patio. It was a little too windy to eat outside, so we ate in. I had a tomato bisque - creamy, complex and delicious. I also had a half chicken sandwich on panini bread - also delicious. The menu is a little bit confusing to someone who had never been there before, but there wasn't a line behind me so I didn't feel weird asking a ton of questions in order to make sure I got the right amount of what I wanted for the right price. Also - kudos for no styrofoam. I'm sure it would be easier/cheaper, but the plastic to-go containers were a nice touch. I'll definitely be back for lunch on the lighter side.

This place is insane!!!!!!!! Everything is delicious and the atmosphere breaks the mold of what you think Wichita is about in the food world. A fresh take of some local favors. Try Delilah's light lunch.... Absolutely heavenly!!!

Met a co-worker here the other day for lunch around 12:30, the place was packed! Upon first glance it's a really cute building, lovely patio outside, lots of tables inside, and lots of chalkboards with specials and drawings made by the employees! I went up to the front and ordered a sandwich that I can't quite remember the name of, it was a few different cheeses toasted on ciabatta bread with spicy mustard and red onions. I also asked to sample a few soups to decide what I wanted. I tried the spicy corn chowder but decided on the Tomato bisque. It was a really enjoyable lunch. the soup and sandwich were to die for. I also really enjoyed the little picture of what I'm assuming was the owner's pug. super cute! In a nutshell, solid lunch spot that's extremely vegetarian/vegan friendly but has something for everyone.

Just stopped be for lunch. I ordered a half "Lil Kim". I now wish I had ordered the full sandwich. Oh my it was yummy. It was the famous Gramps Rueben but with a twist, there was Kim-chi added. Have it a nice kick. I also had the chilled raspberry mole soup. Wow, wow and a great big WOW.

Got to try milano sandwich with tomato bisque soup for the side. The soup was huge to be consider as a side. Soup was well season and the cheese was a nice suprise addition to it. The milano sandwich was just ok, very plain and the bread was too hard for my taste.

Five years after being forced out of their previous location, Tanya Tandock is back with he made from scratch, original soup recipes. They also offer fresh made sandwiches and salads. A true delight.

Thanks to this place I've discovered my unwavering love for pesto! The Caprese BLT! OMG!! This is one of my favorite lunch spots and overall one of my favorite restaurants in Wichita. This quaint little spot located at the corner of Douglas and Kansas, one block east of Douglas and Hydraulic. Tanya's offers delicious sandwiches, refreshing salads, and soul quenching soups that are made fresh daily with seasonal vegetables. In the summertime, they offer 3 soups; A signature soup, a vegan soup, (one is also always gluten free) and one other. (4 soups in the fall/winter) The Signature soups offered weekly: Monday: Chicken Noodle soup with Mashed Potatoes Tuesday: Gumbo with Rice Wednesday: Chicken Curry with Apple Chutney and rice (HUGELY popular-go early!) Thursday: Potato soup and chili Friday: Tomato Curry with Jasmine Rice Saturday: Chicken Tortilla soup with chips and cheese I LOVE the cold fruit soups they serve in the summer. The Chilled Chili Mango Lime Bisque and the Chilled Blueberry Tarragon Bisque are two of my absolute favorite things to enjoy on a hot summer Kansas day. When I'm in a hurry I can call in my order and it's ready by the time I get there. You can get any of the sandwiches as a half or a whole, and all of them come with a side. That includes either soup, potato salad, pasta salad, or sometimes there's a special side. Depending on what you get, a sandwich and side will typically run you around $10. Some of the views I've read say they're a bit pricey, but the way I look at it I can spend $7 at McDonalds for something that is going to make my stomach upset, or I can spend a few more bucks and get real food that is made fresh, a lot of times with local ingredients that will leave me feeling refreshed and happy. It's totally worth it to me. Something else that I think sets this place apart from other restaurants is that they're allergy conscious and accommodating. Any of the sandwiches can be made with gluten-free bread, and there's always at least one gluten-free and vegan soup option. They're only open for lunch Monday through Thursday 11-3pm. Friday & Saturday they're open for lunch and dinner and offer dinner specials pretty much every weekend. I could seriously eat at this place every day. One other thing, the patio is awesome!!! If it wasn't 1,000 degrees in the summer, I'd eat outside more often.

I ordered the Delilah Sandwich with a side of Tomato Curry with Jasmine Rice. The apricot relish on the sandwich made it unique. The real star of my meal was the Tomato Curry soup with Jasmine Rice. The soup was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. It was so good! The portion was larger than expected considering it was a side. They have daily soup specials and during the summer time they offer cold fruit soups. I will definitely be back to try other items and specials. Service was good. Food is a bit pricey. This restaurant gets packed quick and indoor seating is limited. Outside patio is nice when weather permits. A group of us went on a Friday night and there was live music. I'm all about supporting local artists.

My husband and I stopped by Tanya's Soup Kitchen on our way from Oklahoma to Colorado. It was convenient from the highway and was a surprisingly nice lunch that we will definitely enjoy again next time we drive through! I had the Croquadille sandwich with pasta salad. It was busy, but efficient, and the staff was very friendly and helpful! Great food, atmosphere and customer service!

Tanya's Soup Kitchen is a spot that I drive by nearly everyday and always tell myself I should stop by. I finally got the opportunity to on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. It has a killer patio with cool wood work providing shade. I love the food at Tanya's because it's healthy, light, and refreshing. The service is friendly and even though the menu is fairly small it's not hard to find a variety of things anyone could enjoy. I got the Tomato Bisque Soup & Chef's Club Sandwich with a side of pasta salad. The gogonzola dressing really brought my sandwich to the next level. The soup and pasta salad really impressed me as well. In the end it's just really hard to beat a good ol sandwich and soup combo.

  • Bonnie R.

Overall a delicious meal! I couldn't get enough of the Milano sandwich with roast beef, bacon, parmesan, basil mayonnaise, and romaine lettuce. The pasta salad side was tangy and satisfying. My chicken tortilla soup had nice flavor but was a little cold. My boyfriend had the Chef's Club sandwich and tomato basil soup. The gogonzola dressing was a nice, creamy compliment to the turkey, avocado, bacon, and lettuce. The patio was spotless and comfortable, parking was easy, and the staff were extremely friendly.

All of the food is consistently delicious at TSK. Of course the soups are famous in Wichita but I don't think the salads get enough attention. The Ella is my favorite salad but my daughters prefer the Cleopatra. All of the salads are good! My absolute favorite soup is the chicken curry but my youngest daughter likes the tomato bisque so much she's sad if it isn't available that day. Whether you're gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan or a meat lover, you can find something you'll like at Tanya's. This is a popular restaurant so go early for lunch if you want to avoid a wait in line.

Stopped in here for a quick lunch and the soups and sandwiches were honestly pretty good. Felt down to earth and all of the staff were friendly. If I lived or worked in the area I would probably come here for lunch fairly often.

Stopped in today on recommendation and was glad I did. Curry tomato soup with jasmine rice. Unforgettable. I want that recipe and I think they sell them.

This was such a great place for lunch in Wichita! I loved every morsel. The menu has some surprising options. Loved it!

What a great place Tanya's is. Food is fresh and there is always a wide variety of things on the menu to choose from. Parking is plentiful so you don't have to spend too much time finding a spot. Inside has exposed brick wall and a large version of the menu on the wall. Specials are written on a dry erase board. FYI the items listed are there for a limited time. So there is a good chance what's listed might not be available. I would recommend this to anyone that wants a good comfort meal during the cold months.

I had the chicken and sausage gumbo and thought it was good. Their prices were high, but they do provide a decent portion for the soups. As far as the sandwich, it was decent, but I wouldn't say it was worth the $10 they charge for it. The place was clean and their decor had a country, homelike feel. The only thing that I didn't appreciate was that the servers seem to rush you. I understand that they sometimes get busy, but I think as a restaurant, you should be respectful and wait for customers to finish eating before you constantly come around asking if they would like a to-go box. We were there for maybe 25-30 mins before we headed out to have dessert somewhere else. Since I love soup, I might return to try their other soups and possibly their bread pudding.

Three years later and my opinion is largely unchanged. Tanya is a lively personality, and the creativity necessary to create four new soups every day is worthy of praise as demonstrated by the continuous line of people from the register to the door, but there's a lot of missed opportunity here in everything that's not soup. A thirty year veteran of the Wichita restaurant scene who holds cooking classes, a regular segment on KMUW, and sells books of her recipes thinks it's okay to charge nearly $10 for some dressed-up Sysco cold cuts and bread? In 2013, Wichita has come to expect more from our sandwiches. The true creativity nowadays comes in the weekend entree, but it's designed to be carried across both Friday and Saturday dinner service, so it's usually something that can be reheated easily. It's a small addition that doesn't change the fundamentally lunch-type atmosphere of TSK, even if the evening service has dimmed lights and alcohol service. This isn't a rag on Tanya. I suspect she is capable of producing much more than what is showcased at Tanya's Soup Kitchen. The problem is that the talent is very infrequently showcased - leaving the public to believe her expertise based upon her patterned template of soups and the weekly dinner entree. It's not enough to earn my adoration, but the lunch line is still going to stretch to the door, so who cares what I think?

Some friends and I went to Tanya's for the first time today. It was wonderful in all aspects! A couple of us had special requests and the staff didn't even bat an eye. Our food was delivered quick and every order correct. All the food was great! Tanya was walking around talking to customers and she is so funny and friendly. My friend said she would come back again because of Tanya before we even got our food.

I've moved away from Wichita and can only imagine how the food community is reacting to the news that Tanya is no longer with us. I reread my original review and hope that, if she ever read it, that she knew that I intended the utmost respect for her on personal and professional levels. In addition to being Wichita's most prominent culinary voice, she was a fun, creative spark in a city and a culinary scene that sorely needs it. I have sympathy for her family and friends, of which she had many, at her untimely loss. I hope that the restaurant will continue to operate and churn out interesting, high quality food to honor her spirit.

I've been hearing about this place for a long time, finally a friend of mine took me there one afternoon. It can get crowded particularly at lunch, but don't let that discourage you- the line moves quickly. You're in for a treat. They have seating inside and out and it's a very comfortable and friendly place. Some of the best soups on earth. Last week I had a curried rice soup with chutney (and other scrumptious things). I need to go back and have more. Their sandwich selection is very fresh and healthy. Order at the counter and they bring it to your table. WhaLa!

  • Katelyn N.

The sandwiches were okay, but the soup was absolutely amazing. It was creamy and just delightful. My favorite was the tomato soup. The downside was it was kind of pricey for just a soup and a sandwich. I wouldn't come back to this place.

    (3)
  • Howard C.

I feel soup and half a sandwich for ten bucks is a bit steep. The food is not bad tasting, but it's nothing special either. Their bread pudding was decent. The lay out is typical cafe-style. There's plenty of parking. It's close to downtown. I would not go back.

Want to treat your body and mind to a good meal? Try Tanya's Soup Kitchen. I have been wanting to try their food for 2 years now. Now that I've found their location I can't stay away. Their food is made from scratch and imagination. Try their classic menu or try their weekly specials. So far I have had half of the menu and although my favorite sandwich is their Grandpa Rubie (Reuben sandwich) I still continue to venture out to trying the entire menu. The atmosphere is simple yet warm and welcoming. The staff are friendly, ready to assist you and have an aura of positive energy.

I am completely in love with this restaurant. I have never tried the sandwiches because I only want the soups -- THEY ARE GREAT! I like the variety, I like Tanya's sensitivity to those who want gluten free or vegetarian/vegan or dairy-free. They make the best Chicken Curry on Rice with Chutney. It's awesome! I want them to stay open forever. If you are a foodie like me, you won't want to miss this restaurant. Be warned, however, that it gets super busy during the noon hour and can get hard to find seating. They do their best to accommodate groups, but if you come in unexpectedly with 12 people (like we did), there may not be a way to sit together. They stop the line when there are no more tables, and the crowd backs up. And even if you have a large group and there is a large table available, they won't let anyone hold tables while they are still in line. Best to get here when they open at 11.

  • Mc S.

Tanya's Tomato Bisque is the best. I had the Grandpa's Rueben, it was missing the cheese and wasn't toasted - and cold. I thought it was the Tanya way until I checked the menu. So how many stars to discount for an off visit? I don't know. I've been there before and will continue to go again.

After trying so many tasty, but patently fattening food in Wichita, my coworker and I wanted to cap off our week at a deliciously healthy place. We found it! I ordered the Blue North full sandwich with the small side of peach raspberry tarragon chilled soup. Needless to say I had Pharell's "Happy" going in my head as my taste buds were set on fire with happiness. I will gladly recommend to local and traveler alike!

Stopped here on our road trip after reading some great yelps. And it didn't disappoint! Huge portions, great food! Potato salad is a must! If you come on a day when they're serving creamy artichoke and Gorgonzola soup, get it! Staff was super friendly, only criticism would be that they should allow pets on the patio.

  • Micheal P.

This place is consistently serving up fresh quality lunches. While a few of the soups are nothing to write home about, most are exquisitely crafted. Options change daily and are inventive - creamy vegan tomato basil, cold potato, fruit gazpacho. I had a chicken sandwich with cheddar and apricot jam and I couldn't believe how light it tasted! While I enjoyed the soups and sandwiches, it was the salad that blew me away. A featured special - the roberto - with cheese, specialty meats, artichoke hearts, and marinated onions and tomatoes. It was divine! Perfectly dressed! Exactly what I was looking for. Well done, Tanya.

I was visiting my family in Wichita for the holidays, and I was so ecstatic to drive by Tanya's Soup Kitchen! I used to go to the old location behind Cox Communications all the time when I went to East High and even after I went to KU, and I had been waiting years (like everyone else) for them to re-open after they were forced to leave their old space! Luckily we drove by at lunch time and I made an executive decision for my husband (native Angeleno) and my sister to eat here! Everything was as wonderful as I remembered. We each ordered a full or half sandwich with a little soup. The Blue Key North was always one of my favorites, and the ciabatta bread of the Milano was perfect! I couldn't stop drinking the tomato soup, and Hubs enjoyed the taco soup. The next day, I brought everyone back for lunch again (no complaints here!) and my mm. We also tried the Junie, which was unique and delicious with the fennel roasted pork, the corn chowder, and the black bean soup. You really can't go wrong here! I live in Santa Monica, CA now, but if they opened a Tanya's out here, it would definitely stand it's own ground.

  • B.W. R.

We had the Milano (roast beef, Parmesan, basil mayo & romaine on ciabatta) and Cindy the Boy (ham, havarti & apple chutney on ciabatta). Potato salad & a "small" bowl of chicken curry soup were our sides. We split the sandwiches, and even though both were good, we preferred the Cindy. Apple chutney was a great addition. I tried just a bit of the blueberry bbq sauce from the Blue Key North- good flavor to it,too. The soup was excellent. A bit of a kick from the curry, but not too much. The prices were a bit high, but portions are good. Friendly service.

  • Jordan A.

My favorite sandwich is the croquadille. It has an amazing blending cheese with mustard and red onions on chibatta. My favorite soup is by far the tomato tarragon soup. All in all this is one of my favorite places to come. It has a very welcoming atmosphere and the employees always make you feel at home.

  • Tanna K.

their sandwiches, their soups is the BOMB, the seatings is almost always full and the line to get food is long during the busy hours.. but they handled it well. i love that they have many choices to pick from for soups, salads and sandwiches.

Tanya's foods are amazing and electric. Prices legitimate. The repurposed door made countertop face is awesomeness. I love everything about this place, it's owner and it's product. Try it you won't like it. You'll love it!!!

There is a reason why this place is filled during lunch hour -- food is awesome! The service by the cool dudes and gals is great too. I was in Wichita over the spring and summer for a business project and ate or picked up food here every time I could. The soups, salads, and sandwiches are tasty and made fresh. There are vegan, vegetarian, and pescetarian options as well. I will definitely be back whenever I am in Wichita.

Yum! I loved Tanya's Soup Kitchen. I ordered the Ella Salad (a chicken salad) and the Tomato Dill Bisque. I'm glad I got the the little size of each. Anything bigger would have been too much! I'm also glad that I went early. The place filled up quickly. They have weird rules about seating- you have to order before you get a seat, and can't send another member of your party to hold a table while you order for everyone. They actually have a sign about it. I thought that the rule was a little weird and unnecessary, but whatever. The Ella chicken salad was delicious. There were cashews and cherries in it, which really added a nice touch. There was enough dressing on it that it held together, but not so much that it was gloppy. It said on the menu that there was a "choice of dressing" but I was not given a choice. The dressing I got (some type of peach? apricot?) was good though, so I am not complaining. The tomato dill soup was so, so good. I had to restrain myself from licking out the bowl. The dill was not overpowering, and there was a slight cheese flavor to the soup. It was creamy and sweet. I also had the iced tea, which seemed to be subtly flavored with something. I sat on the patio, which was clean and pretty. It was decorated with flowers in pretty pots. They had a fan going, which was a nice touch on a warm day. The parking lot was large and there was plenty of parking, even after it got busy. I will be back! I want to try all of the soups!

I come here for lunch all the time. It's delicious. I often get the half Delilah sandwich and a soup of the day. My favorites are the tomato curry with rice and the cheddar ale. Yum! It gets really crowded inside so it's best to do an early lunch or a late lunch there.

I love frequenting local businesses and I am all for places that cater to those of us with eating restrictions. They have gluten free options, vegetarian and vegan choices as well. The problem is this: They usually only have one gluten free soup option and often it is the same for a week at a time. There is a significant upcharge for an already overpriced sandwich on gluten free bread and you can't have any of the sides due to cross contamination. The last couple of times I was in I did have some issues. First, about 6 months ago, I ordered the potato salad and found noodles in it from their pasta salad. I wrote on their FB wall to tell them and actually heard back from Tanya herself. She was very nice and assured me that they would talk to the staff about cross contamination. Then, just recently, I asked the guy making my food to please switch gloves because I saw him reach into the regular bread and then the gluten free bread. He told me it didn't matter because they couldn't guarantee my food was going to be contamination free anyway. I asked him to go ahead and do it anyway and he said fine but it wouldn't matter. I said I wasn't trying to make him angry, I just didn't want to get sick and he said, "Hey, we are just talking but I suppose you want me to use foil on the grill too" I said yes but was a little concerned about how my food would come out. They are also WAY too popular for their current location. You often have to stand and wait for others to finish their food before sitting to eat and the tables are all jammed so close together it can be awkward. They also sometimes run out of menu items all together. I really think a new facility and a bit more on the menu would make her even more famous! Overall, the food is tasty but overshadowed by mediocre service and prices. I will go there with friends but it isn't my first choice for good eats Downtown.

It was a cold, cold day in February and we were hungry. Looking for a good place with good food and per Yelp this was a good eating place. The sandwiches a little high in price but very tasty. We had the club, reuben, and the roastbeef. All good. The soups (chicken noodle, tomato and mushroom) were very good but not exceptional. Would recommend eating here to anyone who might be in the area. It is good food. Two can eat for around $20-25.

This place rocks. I have been following this place on Facebook for a year and finally made it in yesterday with a friend. My friend ordered a Caesar salad and blue key west sandwich. Salad looked fresh with homemade croutons but lets get to the sandwich....blueberry BBQ sauce. Enough said. I had one of the fresh soups....chicken tortilla. Best I've had. Downside to this place is table service or lack there of. For my $2 iced tea, a refill would have been nice but never got it.

  • Lan N.

The items we ordered did not for the most part leave an impression, but I can't wait to come back here and try other items. I got to try the olive and and the blue key north. They were both better than average, but nothing that impressed me. I also got the tomato bisque which was quite yummy and the chicken tortilla, which was just fine. I'd order the bisque again in the heartbeat. But the star of the show was really the bread pudding. Def one of the best desserts I've had here in ICT. It's up there with Juarez's tres leches.

While working downtown in the summer, I ate at Tanya's Soup Kitchen for 7 weeks in a row (sometimes twice a week). Yes, it's THAT good. My favorites include the chicken curry soup usually served on Wednesdays and the bread pudding. Whatever you order, you can't go wrong. Service is friendly and fast. My only complaint would be that everyone else in Wichita knows how good it is. The line can be long around the lunch rush, so get there early. One of Wichita's best lunch spots!

I used to eat at Tanya's when it was at the old Cox building. I had just about everything on the menu back then. Now coming back, it was just the same as I remembered it to be. I was eager to have the chicken soup over mashed potatoes, but that was not on the menu for that day. :( That is okay though, I went for the yellow squash soup with the croquadille sandwich. Both tasted great! I could have done with a little less green onion in the soup, but it was still very good. Others at my table had the shrimp and potato chowder which they said was very good and also a Ruben which they thought was just a tad on the dry side, but still very good. The building is well lit and the service was great. As we were waiting in line to order I noticed all of the tables were full. However, miraculously, everyone that ordered was able to get a table no problem, so the flow of the restaurant was quite smooth as well.

Amongst all the buzz for the return of Tanya's Soup, I can only find in myself a somewhat generous 4stars to apply to a Saturday lunch experience. 2 in the afternoon after the second week of being open, it was still a packed house of other late lunchers. Which is why I choose to take mine to go despite a warm atmosphere of nice decor and large sunlit windows. A friendly cashier and a speedy kitchen had me out the door pretty quickly but before so, a handwritten sign was taped to the entrance, "We have ran out food! SO Sorry!", to which I couldn't help but smile about because I just missed the cutoff. Let's start with the Saturday specialty soup, Chicken Tortilla. Nice. Very Nice. A delight to consume, start to finish and I was satisfied with what I considered a generous "small" size of 10oz. A very good soup...but I couldn't help think, this is just soup. Delicious Soup, But just soup. Following that, my disappointment was found in the Blue Key North Sandwich- "smoked turkey, blueberry barbecue sauce and provolone on an onion kaiser roll". The description alone had raised my tastebud expectations to an excited level... Unfortunately. The turkey was deli sliced and processed, the blueberry bbq sauce was practically non-existent (perhaps this is one of the items they ran out of...but that isn't a good reason to still serve me that particular sandwich), the provolone cheese was also skimped on, and the onion kaiser roll was pretty bland-tastic. The sandwich fail is what left me unsatisfied with the $10 lunch, but due to Tanya's reputation, the deliciousness of the soup, and the fact they closed early due to running out of food- I'm optimistic my next experience here will truly be 4stars if not 5.

Crazy busy but well worth the wait! I went for the soups and couldn't decide so I got the soup flight (best way to try 4 soups). I highly recommend the chicken curry and the shrimp corn chowder.

If you arent eating here, you are missing out. This place has a great vibe, wonderful friendly staff, amazing owner (wink @ Tanya) and crazy good food! Try everything you can. Special change daily and if you can stop in for dinner and music on the weekends.

If you're looking for a wide assortment of delicious soups then you have to stop by Tanya's. They have different soups available every day, and so far I have yet to try one that I didn't like. The sandwiches there are amazing as well. If you want to grab a great lunch you need to stop here. Be careful though, it gets busy!

Tanya's Soup Kitchen is probably the tastiest casual eatery in Wichita. Or in south central Kansas for that matter! My favorite day is Friday, tomato curry day! If you're with a friend, definitely split the bread pudding... it's completely amazing.

Simply fabulous food that is made fresh and made delicious. Tanya is one of the real food treasures we have in Wichita and it really shows in the quality of the food. If you have trouble making up your mind, go with the daily special!

Tanya's Soup Kitchen is the best soup and sandwich spot in Wichita. It's also the only place I've tried and enjoyed every item on the menu. I'm consistently blown away with the specials. North African Pumpkin Soup and Sweet Potato Chowder are two recent accomplishments I could easily eat daily and never tire of. While the food is truly wonderful, the dining experience is crowded and rushed. I've heard many references to Seinfeld's Soup Nazi though I have never experienced any shouting or ejections from the restaurant. It's just crowded and I try to get there as soon as the doors open so I'm guaranteed a place to sit. This is certainly not the kind of place you want to hold a business meeting as you might find yourself seated elbow to elbow with the stranger next to you. Everything on the menu is wonderful and worth trying at least once but here's my formula so I can order quickly and not hold op the line. If the soup is going to be big and flavorful like the previously mentioned North African Pumpkin or Sweet Potato Chowder, I go with the vegetarian Lulu sandwich. The Lulu is the perfect sandwich for not feeling overly full after a large bowl of soup. It's also a nice balance to the more exotic flavors of these soups without taking away from them. This sandwich also goes great with the curry and tortilla soups. If the soup is more traditional like chicken noodle, then I get a Milano sandwich to accompany it. I love the rareness of the roast beef Tanya's uses as well as the basil mayonnaise. I usually go for this "comfort food" approach on colder days or when it's raining. The Milano is also really good dunked in tomato soup. A large bowl of chili does not require a sandwich to fill you up. If it wasn't for the rushed atmosphere, I'd rate Tanya's Soup Kitchen 5 stars. The food certainly is but the dining experience could use some tweaking.

If you've never eaten at Tanya's, shut down your computer, get in your car, and drive there right now! It doesn't matter what you order: soup, salad, sandwich, or even a dinner entree: every single thing is amazing. If you want lunch, get there early or they might run out.

Ate here for lunch yesterday and I very much enjoyed it. This place is cozy and cute and serves yummy comfort food. The atmosphere is bright and homey with nice little homemade touches despite it being in a somewhat strip mall kind of place. I loved the counter made of old, rustic doors. So cool! Onto the food-I had chicken tortilla soup and chicken salad on a bed of greens. The soup was good. It was your typical chicken tortilla soup but due to the wonderful ingredients seemed unique and different. The chicken salad was AWESOME. This was my favorite of the two things I had. It was simple, but so good. It had fresh herbs mixed in along with raisins. The flavor combo was just perfect. If I lived in Wichita, I'd be coming here way too much to get my fix of this chicken salad! My boyfriend got the tomato bisque and the cuban sandwich. I have to say, I LOVED the tomato bisque! After I tried a bite, I immediately wished I'd ordered it. My chicken tortilla was good, but nothing compared to the tomato. I'm not sure how to explain it, so just take my word for it and order it when you go in. The service was great and was efficient like a well oiled machine. There was a constant stream of people and the kept things moving along perfectly. Well done.

Today was my first time trying Tanya's, and it was delicious. I got the 1/2 a Chef's Club and a little side of Creamy Roasted Red Pepper soup. I was amazed at the "little" side of soup- it was larger than a cup of soup at your average restaurant. The sandwich and soup were both amazing. For dessert we got the bread pudding. I'm not a big fan of bread pudding, but there's was excellent. We did have to wait about 10 minutes to order because there weren't any tables. The staff was very courteous, and three different people offered us samples of soup while we waited. I was a surprised at the price- mine was $10 for just a 1/2 sandwich, side of soup and a drink. I thought it was a little high, but after seeing the size of soup it's understandable. I went with a picky eater, and they ended up not eating because nothing on the menu looked good. So I would steer clear of this place if you have picky kids.

I'm not usually one to focus on the faults of a place and I know that I haven't reviewed in quite sometime, but I felt compelled and I hope you find my review objective and not disgruntled. Let me start off by saying that the food is amazing as it was in the old Tanya's day - although slightly on the pricey end ($9 for a sandwich and a side - really) Of course complaining over a couple bucks higher than I think it should be is kind of petty and pointless, because the price is fine for the quality of ingredients. The major complaint I have is that of the service. Not so much the service, because everything was fast enough, but the manner in which they treated me and my friends. We work downtown and have 1 hour for lunch. Tanya's is on a level of place above fast food so it's not exactly in and out. We wanted to make sure that we had enough time to eat and enjoy Tanya's the way it should be, so we called in our order ahead of time. We arrived and our food was ready (bonus and props), but as we sat down we could feel the glare of the waitress on the back of our necks and before too long she was hovering over us and with a stern attitude telling us that the tables are meant for people who ordered here (CALL INS ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO EAT AT THE TABLES!) We didn't understand the hostility and I understand if they want to have enough room for everyone who walks in, but it's not like we brought in some McDonalds bag and plopped our happy a$%ess down. We ordered their food to eat at their place. We continued to eat while all the time being stared at from across the room by a very unpleasant person. I want to once again tell you that the food is great (if just slightly pricey) but you must order there - if you want to eat there - or you will be shamed into leaving and if you don't leave you will be haunted by their evil stares. SHAME!! I'm not sure I like their attitude towards a large portion of their downtown clientele and the only reason I didn't give this place 1 star is because their food is good (and I wanted you to take this somewhat seriously and not just an attempt to angrily spout off about a poor experience). (I emplore Tanya's to take a closer look at their policies and customer relations - I'd hate to have to miss out on the rest of their food for the rest of my life, because of the evil stare of a not so cordial young woman)

I've only done takeout at lunch. Service has been fast. I've had a couple of different sandwiches and soups, and all have been pretty amazing. Some have been out of my normal comfort zone, but have not disappointed. Seems a little pricey, but hasn't kept me from going back. Be sure to give it a try.

With Tanya Tandoc's original restaurant closing it's doors in 2004 due to a dispute with then landlord Cox Communications, Wichita was left in a soup vacuum. Then the rumors started, first in only hushed voices, then they grew louder and bolder that a new Tanya's Soup Kitchen would open. Then sure enough on a few Wichita Eagle blogs details started surfacing about this apparently long awaited redo of a local favorite. The new space is was custom designed for Tanya this time around and with lesson's learned from her previous restaurant, such as inclusion of a separate to-go register, easing the line somewhat. I had been meaning to try this for quite some time and it wasn't until recently that I had that opportunity. There has been quite a buzz, perhaps generated by the generous coverage it was afforded, but either way I was excited about a new restaurant to try. When I arrived on a Saturday miday for lunch the place was packed to capacity, perhaps even beyond but ill get to that in a bit. The menu is located on a large chalkboard upon entering and it has a good range of sandwiches, salads, and other various lunch or lighter affair. I was a bit surprised by the lack to soup choices. when I was there I believe there were only 3 choices, maybe 4. I understand that the storage of soup is a big undertaking but for a soup venue it just seems like a small offering. Though perhaps their approach is quality over quantity. While standing in line i did see something almost right out of Seinfeld. A couple standing in front of me decided that upon seeing an open table in they would device and conquer. With only the woman now left in front, the lady at the cash register noticed the man sitting a table with neither an order flag or food. Apparently he was asked to give up the table for patrons that have already ordered, or in other words NO SOUP FOR YOU! The couple took great offense to this and decided to leave. Meanwhile i had already ordered my tortilla soup and Cuban sandwich. I really enjoyed my soup, it had just the right consistency and flavor. Perhaps the only thing it really was missing was a bit more spice heat. The Cuban which was inspired by a recent poll i found to be somewhat lackluster, neither exciting nor particularly bold as a Cuban sandwich should be. It wasn't bad but i won't be in any rush to try it again. I'm defiantly going back to try more soups and sandwiches and overall, i think Tanya's Soup Kitchen is a welcome addition back into the Wichita food scene.

WhaLa!

    (4)
  • Katelyn N.

The sandwiches were okay, but the soup was absolutely amazing. It was creamy and just delightful. My favorite was the tomato soup. The downside was it was kind of pricey for just a soup and a sandwich. I wouldn't come back to this place.

  • Howard C.

I feel soup and half a sandwich for ten bucks is a bit steep. The food is not bad tasting, but it's nothing special either. Their bread pudding was decent. The lay out is typical cafe-style. There's plenty of parking. It's close to downtown. I would not go back.

  • Trinh N.

My favorite sandwich is the croquadille. It has an amazing blending cheese with mustard and red onions on chibatta. My favorite soup is by far the tomato tarragon soup. All in all this is one of my favorite places to come. It has a very welcoming atmosphere and the employees always make you feel at home.

their sandwiches, their soups is the BOMB, the seatings is almost always full and the line to get food is long during the busy hours.. but they handled it well. i love that they have many choices to pick from for soups, salads and sandwiches.

I've had better food, and the service was less than desirable. Kind of rude actually! I won't be returning. I don't see what all the hooplah was about. Also, pretty expensive for the amount of food you get.

Well done.
