Great food. Big tacos for two bucks each. The adobado tacos are incredible with so much flavor. They made me visit two days in a row. The burritos are equally great. I loved the salsa bar. It reminded me of a taqueria I used to frequent in San Antonio a few years ago. The service can be hit or miss depending on who's behind the counter. Like another reviewer said, this place is definitely a gem. I hope this place stays open, 'cause it's worth the drive from the east side of Wichita.

All the ambience and decor of a bus station but that's not why you come here ...awesome cheap food. ..awesome fast ...the mainstay is the Carne Asada Burrito but as my trust of this place has grown ( and my tetanus booster has been updated) I have tried most of the menu and can happily report that I didn't sustain ANY injuries...this place is not just for late night alcohol induced stupor any more...tried the Hot carrots as they are great...don't bring a first date unless you have already roofied her and just really don't care. ..

What is there to say about Rene's? My dear Rene's. I always give a dumbfounded look when someone tells me they have never been to nor heard of my little diamond on the rough.I first discovered Rene's years ago, when I live just across the highway. Like many, I started with the Colorado, a burrito of cane asada and copious amounts of cheese. Literally the size of your forearm, it was the perfect end to a night of drinking and debauchery. Eventually I grew to try the super nachos (still a favorite of mine), the adobado tacos (to die for), and the tamales (mouthwatering). No longer do I only visit in the shadows of night. Its nice to go when there aren't droves of drunk people heading home from the bars. Make sure you try the breakfast choices too. The bacon - egg burrito pretty fulfilling too. They are open 24/7 (less Christmas), so you have no excuse not to go. You're welcome.

I don't remember how I came across this little gem, but years ago, when I lived in Wichita, I somehow ended up here, and I absolutely loved it. I believe the name of this place has changed a couple times over the past ten years or so, but the food has remained delicious and inexpensive. Open 24/7 for your late-night burrito cravings, Rene's provides a variety of great treats, some for as little as $4 for a meal. They have a salsa bar with a variety of fresh sauces to dress your meal with, and the staff is friendly, even at 3am. Try the Carne Asada fries, Carne Asada Burrito, or Super Nachos.

OMG! we came to wichita kansas on a short weekend getaway. we checked yelp reviews for this restaurant and said what the heck. we drove up to the restaurant what is a little hole in the wall. The line for the drive thru was around the corner. we knew we had struck gold. if you stop at this place you need to get the colorado burrito and the super nachos. we stopped again in the morning on the way out of town to pick up another colorado burrito. colorado burrito was the best burrito I've ever had and I am really not a fan of burritos.

Anyone who comes here needs to keep in mind that this is a fast food place. This is not a restaurant. With that said, I was not pleased with the carne asada taco. It tasted dry and unseasoned. The carnitas taco was really good though. I would almost dare say that the pork here is restaurant quality. So if you come here, I would recommend getting something with carnitas or adovada. I wish they would have doubled up on their tortillas, like these other authentic Mexican places do. The tacos crumbled apart with only one tortilla. They gave me an extra carnitas taco for some reason. I don't know if it was on purpose or on accident. But it is worth an extra star for that. This place is good for the late 2AM gut bomb you're craving for after a night at a bar.

Hole in the wall, but great cheap mexican food from the basic taco to the specialties. Open 24 hrs everyday makes it great place to always eat.

Driving past Rene's all the years gave me the impression they were a fast food place. Probably because it says so on their sign. But it's not the fast food Mexican like Taco Pronto or Taco Shop or Taco Bell; it's just a 24/7 taqueria, which are inherently quick through design. Upon opening my takeout container, I was surprised to see my adovada, carne asada, and carnitas tacos a bit more colorful than I was expecting thanks to hefty helpings of pico de gallo and guacamole smeared between each tortilla. Better yet, all of the meat got real nice and comfortable with the grill. My al pastor meat* was very nicely browned on their sides, as were the carnitas and asada. Flavors were deep, rich, and punchy for all except the carne asada, which was a little bland and a little chewy. With as much food as was packed into each of those tortillas, it's easy to see why this is such a popular late night drunk location. *I know I said I ordered adovada, but given the final product, the lack of an al pastor item on the menu, and the relative difficulty with finding carne adovada in Wichita, I think it's just a difference in naming conventions. Something that could be applied to a lot of Mexican restaurants around here, I bet, since I don't see most of them roasting anything on a spit in the classic al pastor style. I equate Rene's as the west side's version of Alejandro's and maybe in the same category of 24/7 Mexican as Abelardo's, but Rene's blows them both out of the water.

Will never be as great as Tacos Lopez!! Rene's is more expensive and quality is smaller & fatty meats!!

Over priced. Long wait time. Food isn't that great. Alejandro's is much better. Won't eat there again, unless I'm starving and it's 3AM.

Ordered: Carne Asada Burrito + Adobada taco Price: $6.82 Ambiance: Pretty standard fast-food joint but clean. Staff was very friendly, including the kids translating for the cashier lady that took my order. Food: The carne asada burrito was like the ones I love in California, no rice or beans, just tender carne asada with nice creamy guacamole and a little salsa fresca. The meat was properly salted and with no gristle. The adobada taco was equally delightful, a single corn tortilla coated with guacamole, salsa fresca, and heavily-loaded with wonderfully-spiced pieces of pork. This is the most flavorful adobada i've found in the midwest, so if you've never tried it, this would be the place to give it a try! Open 24, affordable, and tasty = best mexican food i've had in Wichita to date!

We love, love, love the Colorado Burrito. I've ordered the nachos twice, but didn't like them at all. I'll always go back for the burrito.

Very clean and food was out fast. I'm a big taco guy and I did not enjoy the beef or chicken tacos. Shells were a little burnt and wasn't a fan of the shredded beef they used.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
