Despite the different name (an annoying trend in Wichita), Livingston's has a menu that's a carbon copy of its Jeanne's Cafe sibling in College Hill. This is probably why I wrote off visiting the place until recently, when I wanted some breakfast and had forgotten why I wrote it off in the first place. Well, I'm here now, so let's do this. I wasn't particularly impressed with my meal at Jeanne's, and the Cook's special with a small order of biscuits and gravy, hash browns, and eggs left we equally unimpressed, though they were fairly well-prepared - the over easy eggs certainly did have runny yolks, and the potatoes had more crust than not. Plus they were seasoned, which - in this town - is more of an accomplishment than you might think. Still, nothing that would make me want to return. Judging from the menu's description of the eggs benedict as including a "cheese sauce," it's obvious these diners are committed to serving the same simple diner fare that their great-grandfather did more than a century ago. And while that's more than enough for some people, I'm looking for something more out of my dining experiences. Should I be docking Livingston's when it's clearly a person issue with the type of fare they choose to serve? It's hard to say, and it's even harder to rectify when I gave five stars to Brint's Diner. All I know is I'm getting mighty sick of terms like "stick-to-your-ribs type of food" and "like mom used to make." I can make some fine eggs and coffee myself in the span of ten minutes. This isn't why I go out to eat. Livingston's Diner had crazy quick service and the hasbrowns are leaps and bounds above The Beacon. If that's all you need, I suggest you try Livingston's.

Service was horrible, so slow, had to wait a long time before getting to order. Food was bland, and bacon looked uncooked/raw, I didn't try it. save your time, if you're looking for a good breakfast, this isn't the place.

Good food. I made the mistake of going on a Sunday and it was very busy and the food was slow coming out. I wish they had some biscuits on the table.

It is my own fault. When neither the menu specified the cheese nor the waitress inquired what kind of cheese I wanted in my cheese omelet, I should have expected nothing more than Velveeta. And, Velveeta is what I got. The eggs were so tough they couldn't even be sawed into bites with the butter knife. The biscuits were frozen - or some commercial version - makes no difference, they were cold in the center. The gravy tasted like the water had just been added to it; but maybe it had just been poured from the can because it wasn't even warm. The coffee was brown dishwater. Once you got their attention, staff was friendly and moderately attentive. Twenty bucks for two wretchedly bad omelets, cold biscuits and gravy (I didn't order the gravy, but I got it anyway.) and unpalatable coffee is an affront I won't endure again. Wanted to try a new place today, so I chose Livingston's. Price was average. Paid $27 for 2 adult and 1 child's meal, and a side of onion rings. I ordered the turkey sandwich...very disappointing. It was on toasted sour dough, which did not taste like sour dough, and they buttered the bread! The turkey was also smoked turkey. Had I known that, I would have opted for something else. The salad was not fresh. You could tell it was "bagged" salad like you would get at a grocery store. It was drenched in dressing. No croutons or other toppings on the salad. Very disappointing. My sister ordered a full size salad (can't remember the name but I think it had grilled chicken), with Italian dressing. It was creamy Italian dressing and tasted funny and the worst part was the cheese on the salad--it was some kind of sliced cheese. She did not finish it. I ordered a chicken strip kids meal for my daughter. It wasn't your typical "kid friendly" meal. It came with a scoop of mashed potatoes and green beans. She didn't get a choice of sides. Oh, and it only came with ONE chicken strip...in my opinion it should have been at least two. I have never been to a restaurant that serves only one... We shared a side of onion rings. They were only $2.99, which is the only good thing. They were very bland...we left over half of the plate. The waitress was friendly but only checked on us once. Our drinks weren't refilled. Atmosphere is very casual, as expected. The other patrons dining were senior citizens. It wasn't busy at all, plenty of open tables and the food was served quickly. That was the only plus.

I ordered a breakfast special with two eggs, 4 sausage links, sourdough toast and hash browns. None of it was remarkable, and the sausage links were so distasteful that they kept me from finishing the meal. I should've learned my lesson -- had a similarly unsatisfying meal at the sister diner (Jeanne's Cafe in College Hill.) Moved my review from a 1 star to a 2 star simply because the servers were friendly and the place was clean. Food quality was not acceptable to me. The Good Egg is my go-to breakfast place so far.

Went for breakfast to Livingston Diner. This was my second visit in less than 12 months. Ordered a "skillet" breakfast which consisted of potatoes, onions, green peppers ground sausage and two eggs. I thought that the dish was over-seasoned and was too large for one person to consume. A serving half the size would have been sufficient. I don't understand why restaurants insist on serving such large portions! Both the patron and the restaurant would be much better off if portion sizes were smaller. On the bright side, the wait staff and service was excellent. My earlier rating was 5-star, but because of the portion size and over-seasoned dish I rate Livingston's on this visit at a 3.

Excellent service! The food was average and I wasn't overly impressed; however I will likely return due to the service we received (great service is rare in this town).

The food here is consistent, tasty, and comforting. I ate here a lot as a kid and come back every time I am in town. The place is family run by great people. The biscuits and gravy, skillets, and omelettes are my favorites.
