Well Jack's Coffee Shop is not what it said. It is not a Coffee shop in fact don't even have coffee. But what they are is a true Big Burger Joint/dive, because they have been making the large burgers in Wichita for 50 yrs! They are small and very plain, like you might have expected to see back in the 50's, nothing flashy, not even a metal sign, just a new banner now! They also only make burgers, no Coffee, no Fries, no Shakes, just Burgers. I love the way the cook smashes the hand-formed patty down on the grill so that the burger hangs way over the bun and gets crispy on the outer edge. They have a Small burger that is 1/2 pound for $4.50, ( I did say small right) and the lg burger that is 3/4 pound for $5.00, and it hangs way over the sides of the bun. They come with a bowl of potato chips poured from a large bag and if you like fried onions it comes with a whole plate of them. Drinks are $1.00 and are what ever can drinks they have left in the icebox. You could also select home made ice tea or lemonade. They have mustard and pickles on the table, but no tomatos or other fix-ins. In closing this i will just say that I always leave full and a big greasy smile on my face. Will keep going back for years to come...

This place is for sure a dive. A step or two up from Bomber Burger but that doesn't stop it from making some good burgers. Mine was luke warm and little to no seasoning, but it did have a good beef flavor. The plate of grilled onions was a nice touch and out of the norm from other burger joints. Community bowl of chips was a little strange, but effective. Definitely worth a visit and an excellent value for lunch.

Biggest, beefiest hand-spanked burgers in town! When I need a two-fisted, cheddar-laden good old-fashioned burger, I swing into Jack's. Those gals can crank out some satisfying burgers. If you hunger for something simply greasy and soul-satisfying, get this with some of the onions on the side. you may spot me in the corner with a smile on my face and a bite in my mouth. Yum!

This is a burger joint that one just has to take a moment to look at the outside of the building to take it all in...This business is without a doubt on a shoestring budget. It operates out of what was once a house, and is a little difficult to find, so be sure to have the address readily available. The interior is actually cleaner that most burger dives with quite a bit of seating. The women are quite pleasant and we enjoyed talking with them. I had done my research before going in here, I got the smaller burger. Even the smaller burger is very large, the burger is so large that it extends beyond the large bun. The burger is very greasy and ok on flavor, sodium is not added. I also ordered sautéed onions with the burger. I came here to experience the burger and the "community chip bowl". The burger comes with Lay's chips in a bowl for the whole table. The service is good, but the kitchen time is somewhat slow. One needs to experience this place at least once, especially if in the area.

I've lived in Del Rio, Texas, and it was there that I visited perhaps the dingiest restaurant I've ever seen. It wasn't necessarily dirty or unsanitary, but it was clear that the pure focus was on the food. It was exciting, in a way, and that same excitement came rushing to me when I stepped into Jack's Coffee Shop, a restaurant that appears content to do nothing to let you know it exists, and is one of Wichita's must-visit restaurants just for the kitsch. I don't think I've ever visited the southwest side of town, and it was obvious why once I drove down there. This isn't what you would call an affluent part of town. It was largely residential, consisting of small houses that have seen more than a few years, and it was in one of these houses that apparently contained Jack's, though I didn't realize it until my GPS told me to make a U-turn. It looks like they renovated the house to make it into a basement. Cement floors, cheap drywall, a counter made from unfinished wood, and a mishmash of tables and chairs. I was the only one in the restaurant, and upon entering and convincing myself that yes, this was happening, I quickly perused all four items on the menu (large and small iterations of hamburgers and cheeseburgers) and went with a large cheeseburger. The woman took my order and went around the corner to start making it, but not before reaching into the fridge and getting my drink order - a can of soda - and pouring me a big-ol' bowl of grocery store-branded potato chips from a large bag. After a while, I was presented a large burger exceeding the boundaries of its bun on one of those plastic plates that's designed to hold a paper plate, some grilled onions, and some reusable food containers with pickles and jalapeños. The patty was cooked to the well side of medium, which was good enough for me - I would prefer these type of burgers let a little bit of the fat render, because I otherwise feel like crap for the rest of the day, and I had no complaints on the seasoning. The meat tasted of pretty average quality, though given the digs, I have no problems believing it. The onions were amongst the best part of the burger - cooked just enough to start turning brown and caramelizing, and you get darn near a half of onion's worth of them. I don't have a lot to say about the burger because, like everything else at Jack's that isn't the burger, it's all slapped together at the lowest possible cost and quality. There's a reason most restaurants don't serve generic potato chips from a bag, and give me plastic-handled mismatched silverware - because I can do that at home just as easily. While Jack's may have some decent skill at working a flattop grill, I wouldn't really want to return for any other reason than to show someone else that this place really exists.

You have to know where you are going or there is a pretty good chance you'll drive right by this place and not even realize it. The burgers are very large so I recommend the "small." The small is still almost the size of a paper plate (as you can see from the pictures). There are not fries at Jack's so I deducted a point. They do have "community" regular potato chips in a bowl in the middle of the table, along with various pickled vegetables. I recommend getting a side of fried onions for your burger. Cash only.
