I wldnt eat anything from Felipe's for free. So salty and food wasn't hot, it was served at room temp. Sooo disappointed and sad. Beans were just sprinkled with shredded cheese; both were not served hot. Beef enchiladas were sooo salty and also at room temp. Salsa obviously from can (processed), not from scratch. Felipe's wasn't what they were anymore.....

Felipe's offers some of the most bland, inauthentic Mexican food I have ever had. Maybe it's just because I spent most of my life eating Mexican food in Arizona and New Mexico so I have a different idea of what 'authentic' means, but I just cannot understand why this place gets praise at all, let alone why it gets praised so frequently for being authentic. Most of what I tried here was completely boring, unadventurous, and downright flavorless. From the weak jarred salsa to the docile beans and rice to the totally Americanized enchiladas and tacos, there wasn't a hint of spice or spiciness to be found anywhere in the food I tried. For the most part it was inoffensive, dumbed-down cuisine. But, I happened to order the carnitas which were completely awful. Carnitas should be pork cooked low and slow until the marbled fat has melted out and delicious, tender meat is left behind to be pulled apart into nice stringy bits that are then roasted in some of the meat juice. At Felipe's, you get thick cuts of tough dried out pork with large blobs of fat stuck to it and no discernible spices added. Authentic? Not even close. Simply put, they were not traditionally cooked, so by definition they are not authentic. And the fat on them was disgusting. Look at my photo, you can see how fatty it was. I'm not exaggerating. Absolutely nasty. I couldn't finish the stuff. Now go do a Google search for images of carnitas and see if you can find one that looks like the photo I took. To me, that's objective proof that this place isn't authentic. Maybe people have had better luck ordering different items. My wife's salad, for example, was pretty tasty, fresh, and had plenty of chicken. But the food I got ran the gamut from forgettable and mediocre to just plain terrible. I won't ever be back and, frankly, I am little disheartened about eating Mexican food anywhere in Wichita after this experience.

I've been here before and expected better. Unfortunately the food was uninspiring; actually sucked. Only the rice was good; light and fluffy. Decor is not too bad and would be a good spot for drinks though.

Good family owned mexican Restaurant which has been around since mid 1960's. An authentic Wichita staple. Originally started by Don Felipe (RIP) and his wife. Traditional americanized mexican dishes. Excellent staff and enviroment. The bar/lounge area is very popular and offers great CAZUELAS.. hefty fruity tequila drinks. This place has been around for a while and has remained consistant. Good place to go for lunch or with family and friends. visit tonsilcleaner.com for bad breath solutions. I love this place. I used to live in Wichita and eat here a lot. We have not always gone back to eat here when we come in town, but got in this time. And, we will be coming back. It was wonderful, bertter than I remembered. I only get the Felipes special with pork, because it is so good I do not want anything else. Salsa and chips good too.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
