The new owners have done very good things with this place. It'd been a few years since my last visit and my wife had never been, so I figured it was as good a time as any to give them another look. Glad I went with my gut. The burgers really aren't all that much different from nearby Jack's across from North High. Similar seasoning, similar freshness and even a similar means of cooking - with an appreciably larger staff behind the counter here. What does stand out is the sheer amount of fries you get with your meal. The other thing that made me take note was the fact that the owner is one of the cooks, and enjoyed making items that he encouraged us to try. First was a pair of thin-ish, puffy tacos he had made and were pretty impressed. He also made a couple of cheese enchiladas which were less impressive but still tasty. In all, great neighborhood joint. They have regular specials on certain menu items each week and are worth seeking out.

I always forget to take a photo before I eat but this is so good I couldn't wait!! One of the best burgers in town and I've tried other fantastic items as well!

They have trouble going when they're busy but these guys make up for it in their good nature and politeness. Plus the food is amazing !!!!!

Pretty yummy. I had a hard time adjusting to the concept of famous burgers and Mexican food but honestly they're good is pretty legit.

The young man that took my order was obviously new and wasn't very good at taking orders yet, but their .99 taco special on Monday's is pretty good. Salsa is very thick and there was no silverware to scoop it out of the containers and I was still hungry after 3 tiny tacos. It sounds bad, but the place is ok

Positives: Eager young people. Small enough to be friendly. Food was good tasting, even if lukewarm at best. Cons: On "Tostada Day" they were out of salsa. The fried rice was cold. I didn't have utensils and when I asked for a fork they told me they would have go out to the "back storage" to find one for me. Perhaps they could have looked in to those problems instead of shooting the breeze with a friend in the seating area when I walked in.

Lunch 4/10/14 first off the floor where you ordered was so greasy it was a slip hazard the double hamburger was in fact served hot alas the meat was dry I could tell right away it was a FROZEN patty not a seasoned hand formed fresh hamburger Come on whats the point?Sure it filled me up and was good price but put some effort into it and use fresh hamburger was not anything I would go back for and had to wash my jacket that eve to get the greasy onion smell out of it

If Charlie's has one thing going for it, it's perhaps one of the most egregious misuses of punctuation in the city, this side of "Kababs...". Though it's not reflected here, the actual name of the place is Charlie's "Famous" Burgers; the use of quotations in this case make no sense in any context other than irony, though I doubt that existed when their sign was made. If Charlie's has another thing going for it, it's perhaps the hottest burger I've ever sunk my teeth into. Like, mouth-scaldingly hot, which I wasn't even sure a burger could do, though it was an unwelcome surprise as I was trying to eat and navigate the slender lanes of 13th Street back towards the 135. I don't know what caused it, though I assume there's some combination of time from grill to mouth, heat of grill, and the excessive amount of fat that had been cooked out of the burger. Like Marilyn Haggerty, I also tend to talk about things other than the food when I have little good to say about it. One (actual) thing Charlie's has going for it is their use of seasoning, as my burgers were well-seasoned and fries were plenty salty. That's about it, though - the burgers were a bit dry and chewy. Squeezed between a slice of American, a poorly distributed collection of the standard MOP (mustard, onion, pickle) accouterments, and your run-of-the-mill bun, and combined with thin but greasy fries, it makes me wonder if perhaps Charlie's was indeed using that "famous" claim ironically, after all, because very little stood out to me here in comparison to other Wichita burgers. Another run-of-the-mill neighborhood burger that's popular with folks in the area, but probably not worth the trip.

Best burger in town! I love dining in this little tiny place. I grew up eating here. They have a new owner now and have updated the building quite a bit but it's still the same awesome burgers and fries with new additions like tacos and burritos. It's great!

Charlie's is a burger shack in the middle of a parking lot (sort of). Nothing fancy here. You can expect good-old greasy goodness, like, cheeseburger and fries. Their onion rings are very nice, too. They're crispy from the outside and juicy inside. Very interesting interior design. I don't know why I get lost in time a bit when eating there....lol.

Burger and fries were both good and full of flavor at a very fair price for what i got. However, it only had pickles, no lettuce or tomato. Prompt and friendly service. Will visit again next time I'm in town.

Charlie's burgers ROCK! I agree with William and Candy. Great burger, no frills, great price. Under new ownership for a while now and nothing has changed other than adding bison burgers (skip those, a bit too dry, they cook them too long). TONS of fries when you order, so get one and share it with a friend unless you're starving. I'm gonna say William is almost right. Charlie's makes my top 5 in Wichita. Probably about #3. A definite must-do.

Even though its in the name, I had not heard much if anything about the 'Famous' burgers of Charlie's. ...But I should have. There are well seasoned burgers, then there are burgers cooked on a well seasoned grill... I believe this to be the later. For under $6, Charlies Combo will hit your mouth with a drink, fries, and a double 1/4 cheeseburger. One sure to please most burger stand lovers. On both of my visits, 3 things came together to form this 4 1/2 star experience. The shoe string french fries were fresh, crispy, and seasoned heavily- as fries should be. I want ketchup to be an option to my fried potatoes, not a requirement. Shaved/chipped ice in my drink. Ice chewers, do you realize what a rare thing this is? The burger itself was cooked right, and to me, on a grill that held the secret to their blessed taste. Or perhaps I have no idea what I'm talking about and taking a stab in the dark. But without a doubt, this wasnt your average, local burger hole taste. Exception being, the bun. Ugh, the one fault. The most generic, on sale, bread meat case available on the market.

Charlie's Famous Burgers have a slightly above average taste and they come with pickles, chopped onions and mustard. They are an enjoyable size, not too big not to small. The fries are what make the experience - other than the fact the restaurant itself is in an interesting location (feels like it is in the middle of a parking lot as mentioned below).

Not many times are you handed a bag of food from a drive through where fries are spilling out of the top. This is exactly what happened when I went to Charlie's for the first time. A huge cup full of shoe string fries and a greasy double cheeseburger filled up a brown paper bag to the brim. The burger was the perfect combination of greasy and delicious. Also, the Dr. Pepper with the crushed ice hit the spot to wash it all down. I didn't visit this place when I worked only a few blocks away, but I'll make the special trip there now.

Well Charlie's has a new fan. Thanks Candy for reviewing them because I didn't know they were there and didn't have them on my list to try. I am on a Quest to find the Best Burger Joint in Wichita and there are alot of them. Charlie's is another true Burger Joint and I love that about it. It's a small place but has tables inside for dining in or a drive thu, and a nice selection too. The prices are nice also too. Thee single Cheeseburger is about $2.39 and the double is about $3.19 . I got the Charlie's Special, which has a Double Cheeseburger, Fries and a drink and was only $5.50 including the tax. Very fair price. My Burger patties were about 1/3 LB and fit the bun just right. It was nice and juicy and had a good flavor and grease was not just running off it. It came with sliced pickles, chopped onion and mustard on it. The fries were homemade and cooked perfectly crispy and not overly salted. I was very pleased with my Burger and fries and will go back, when in the area. They may not be the Best Burger Joint in Wichita, but they are on the my list and will most likely make the top 10.
