Food is good. Atmosphere is a little on the dull side. Wait staff was pleasant...handled our large lunch party well.

I think it is important to try new places- bc you just never know when you will find your next go-to neighborhood gem. My girlfriends & I were looking to try something new (to us) & we have all drove past this place a bizillion times, so this time we stopped in! Just pass!! Pass.pass.pass.pass.pass!!! Salad was old iceberg out of a bag (with nothing else) & the dressing couldn't even mask it. The lasagne reminded me of a cheap frozen dinner. The Fried Ravioli starter wasn't bad, but that will not be worth going back for. Looking for good Italian in the neighborhood, delicious and great service? I suggest you head to Cupinis, Regazza or Italian Delight!!!

I had a Groupon, which was accepted graciously (not always the case at restaurants). We were greeted quickly by the bartender as we walked in. We sat close to the door, which was a bad choice because a guy was sitting right outside the door puffing on a cigar the whole time. Everytime someone opened the door we got a blast of nasty smell. I already knew I wanted Chicken Parmesan, because that and lasagna are about my 2 favorite things when it comes to Italian food. The chicken was tasty, the breading was perfect. It was also a good portion size, but their sauce was definitely not my taste. The sauce was goopy and had entirely too much basil. Some of the stuff on the table was kind of sticky. I kept wiping my hands after I touched something. In any case, the food was edible. I might not go back, but it wouldn't bother me to go back.

Great place for hearty meal on a cold day. Big portions of pasta favorites that are guaranteed to keep you full or provide you some leftovers. I'm a big fan of the pizza too, and the option to carry out is a bonus. Try the Chicken Alfredo pizza, well worth it. If you're not in the mood for Italian, they also offer sandwiches and salads, that are a little on the lighter side. Also serves as a great low key neighborhood bar to enjoy a game and a few cold ones.

I've had the pizza here a few times at lunch and really enjoyed it. The baked pasta dishes look good too.

Ugh...this was an experience I plan to never repeat; not even for the Groupon. I should have read the reviews and ordered the pizza. But I ordered the Italian sausage, onions and peppers over linguine with the side salad. The side salad was ok. The house dressing, which has been raved about in other reviews, was too oily and really lacked flavor. The entree was exactly as listed on the menu; sausage, onions, peppers over linguine. The items weren't incorporated or cooked together to meld the flavors. Now I like onion but these were warmed essentially raw slices of onion with warm slices of green pepper. The only flavor was from the Italian sausage and the red pepper flakes I added to the dish. The service was ok. The server was anxious to take our order but pretty much non-existent after we received our food. This seems to be a popular place. But Sutera's, in my opinion, is a definite pass.

I bought a groupon to eat here during my visit to find an apartment in my new home. I came on a Saturday just after they opened for dinner (4pm) and there was only one other party seated. The hostess let me choose where to sit, which I appreciated. It's kind of annoying to be "assigned" a seat when there is barely anyone there! My groupon was for $20 so I ordered a dish to eat-in and a dish to-go. I ordered the chicken parm for "in" and the buffalo chicken wrap to go. My total was just under $20 My dinner came relatively quickly, still sizzling, and the plate was hot. It looked appealing and very cheesy. It came with bread, that was cold and probably purchased at the grocery store. I dug in, and it was a little on the hot side to eat. The breading on the chicken was still crispy, which takes technique. The biggest mistake in making chicken parm is presenting a soggy mess to the customer. This was not soggy. It was, indeed, very very cheesy. I didn't mind. It comes atop penne pasta. The sauce was pretty bland, and heavy-handed on the black pepper. Good thing I like black pepper. The meal satisfied my craving, but was nothing too astounding. I think this would be a great place to bring kids or picky eaters who do not want bold or shocking flavors. Oh, and the portions were very large. I only ate half of my meal and took the other half home. My server was very very nice and attentive. She happily accepted my groupon and checked on me just the right amount. I will be back if craving a large pasta dinner at a great price.

While I've had better Italian food I still love suteras. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff are great. I avoid the lunch and dinner rushes though because they do get packed. I love their cheese ravioli with Alfredo and their buffalo chicken sandwich. However, they do have their flaws. Some of the dishes are a little bland like the shrimp pasta and while their staff is super nice they tend to be a little slow. Overall, I don't mind going here early on Fridays for a nice meal.

Service was terrible but the pizza was great. Waitress was dismal and rude. Wouldn't go back to dine in if you paid me but I'll gladly get the pizza to go.

I've had very few bad experiences at restaurants before, but I've been to Sutera's on 3 occasions and it has never been good. This is the most recent. Pros: Located near my work and dentist (also a con). Reasonably priced, but approaching not so. Welcomed by a proper host. Cons: Oh... so many. The "steak" soup was more on par with ground hamburger soup. Some taste, but generally avoid unless you like your "steak" ground up like hamburger into your soup. The lasagna almost passed for soup. Mushy, runny, lacking substance or lasagna base of noodles for the most part. Service was awful, so awful it rates in my top 5 worst server experiences. I had to request what the specials were and I got "Well, uh, it's the cheeseburger" with a "I can't believe you are so stupid" look on her face. I did in fact see this on the chalkboard on the way in, the chalkboard was more friendly about it. My companion had the audacity to order coffee, which she would "have to go brew" and she ran off to do so while he was still talking to her. My drink sat empty for 40 minutes and was only offered to be filled up when my check had already arrived. I was never asked how anything was, nor was she approachable anyway. Our check was dropped off in the middle of our meal, again with no interaction whatsoever despite me asking her to stay so I could possibly spare a minute of her time to refill my drink and ask if the lasagna was always like this. I hope she was having a bad day, but I didn't get that impression. Summary: Don't bother if you want acceptable service and/or food. However, if you are a regular, they seem to treat them very well. I don't plan on becoming a regular of subpar food and horrible service.

Met friends here and took food to go. When I walked in, two waitresses sat at a table playing cards. One said hello, but did not get up. In fact, I wasn't sure who said hello because I wouldn't expect the wait staff to be sitting down at a guest table at all. There also doesn't seem to be a uniform, so I'm not sure who works there and who doesn't. I will say that the food I got to go was good: Pasta with olive oil and herbs, I added mushrooms. I did doctor it a bit at home with some fresh parmesan. The caesar salad was good - esp. the croutons. May get it for carry out, but probably not dine in.

For being as cheap as it was ($7 per meal, $3 for Stella Artois ), it was actually pretty amazing. The service was great, I wish we would have remembered our server's name so that I could give her a good review. The atmosphere was pretty good if you're looking for a laid back environment. It's a neighborhood bar, casual setting with sports on TV. My entree was a $7 (in-house made) Italian sausage sandwich with mozzarella and marinara and a heaping handful of fries. It was quite good. I've had worse food that cost twice as much and was only half as good. The tiramisu dessert was great! TIP: don't get the "chocolate sauce" garnish with it. The dessert itself was great, but you could tell that the sauce is Hershey's syrup and it made it seem...cheap. For the low price we were charged, and the great service and good food, I definitely think this will be a new favorite of ours.

We were there at 6:30 on a Friday and it was busy, good sign. We were seated right away and that's where it ends. We waited and waited as the staff ran around and tried to keep up. We sat there for over 15 minutes and no one said a word to us or gave us water. The manager/owner, idk who he was but he was in charge, stood by the bar and helped seat people and didn't lift a finger to run drinks or food. I went up to him and asked if we had a server and he rudely raised his voice at me and said yes, that everyone came in at once. I explained we had been waiting and didn't even have water. Instead of apologizing and offering to give us water, he repeated himself. We promptly left and will not be going back. I would have waited if we would have been acknowledged at least given water. Jerk.

thought it was time to review again! this is a place we head every few months and realized that I just need to take my own advice to order the pizza and not any of the Italian dishes. we love the pizza here (order Italian sausage, mushroom and peppercini) and the salads mainly for the Italian and Ranch dressing. bonus: buy a bottle of Italian to bring home! the servers are always friendly too! this is still one of our family favorites.

We decided to try it again with a Groupon. Great lasagna, and this time they had bread. I hope it can become consistent. If it does, we'll be regulars. They have been consistently good since my last review. Salad is eh, but lasagna is excellent.

Great chicken Parm! Good food at a reasonable price. Cozy atmosphere. The salads and pizzas are good....friendly staff.

I found the atmosphere very nice, staff friendly and food very good. I had the meat Lasagna and it was hot and delicious, the marinara is house made. The house made salad dressing (ranch) was great. The server never forgot me and could be said visited almost too often. I gave it four stars as I had to ask for the bread basket the menus said I would receive. I will dine here again.

Nice decor and friendly staff. Food was so-so on a good day. Chicken Alfredo pizza: probably the best dish. Thin crust and full of hearty flavor. Cheese/bread sticks: terrible, tasted like old cardboard. No oil, seasonings, or freshness. Chicken parmesan: average and overly cheesy Tiramisu: incredible, a must have to split with a friend

I had high hopes for Sutera...it used to be in my hometown a good number of years ago and I was SO excited to see it again. Granted, back then this was one of the only options that wasn't fast food, so maybe that effected my judgment of it back then. I was highly disappointed. The meat sauce was bland and I actually had to trade dishes with my fiance there. Glad I got to try it again, but unfortunately, it's a memory I should've kept in the past.

This place is dated and so is the menu. I really wanted to like Sutera's because I prefer local, family owned restaurants over the big chains. Our waitress was quick and friendly but then she only had our table and one more so she had the time. It was a weeknight, maybe a Wednesday or Thursday, at 6:30 and the place was nearly empty. The menu is standard Italian American stuff like lasagna, pizza, spaghetti, and salads. Everything ordered for our table seemed mediocre but inexpensive.

We had passed Sutera's numerous times on our way to get BBQ at OK Joe's, and it had been on our "try list." When we saw they had a Groupon available, we decided to purchase one and give them a shot. Sutera's is located in a strip shopping mall, but they have done a nice job with the decor, simple and clean. It's definitely a family friendly restaurant. We visited on a Saturday evening and it wasn't too busy, but the owners and their family were all there and they appeared to know most of the people dining in the restaurant. One big annoyance was that it smelled like a nail salon from the minute you entered the restaurant. The strong smell of nail polish was almost sickening, and it did not go away. I asked the waitress about it, and she said maybe somebody in the center was remodeling. The menu is limited and not very interesting. It's just straight forward, simple Italian food and pizza. The nice thing is that the prices are extremely reasonable, and all the meals include a soup or salad and bread. I ordered the sausage, onion and pepper pasta and my husband ordered the sausage bake. The salads came out and were served with a basket of saltine crackers. I guess if we had little kids with us the crackers would have been a bigger hit; I was not impressed! The salad was a mix of mainly iceberg lettuce with a slice of tomato; the homemade Italian dressing was the savior. Our meals came out quickly and were served with a loaf of bread (which would have been much better if served hot and crusty). I can't complain that the food was not good; I just can't say that it was great. I had more onions than pasta in my dish, so the strong onion flavor was a bit overwhelming. My husband's meal was better balanced. Both entrees were large portions; the strong point at this place is definitely the value, but for me I need a tastier experience.

B Went here for an early Sunday night dinner. Place was very uncrowded at 5:30 pm.Good interior, good service, very good pizza (Large Supreme- $13) and two good house salads with ranch ($3 each) and the ranch dressing is excellent. Down to earth staff. Great little inexpensive neighborhood itlalian- American red-sauce joint. And it is very close to home. I can see Sutera's becoming a staple in our dining rotation. Espeicially since they have multiple televisions and great drink specials ($5 pitchers on Wednesday! $12 bottles of Delicato wine, I think, on Tuesday, or is Thursday?) Looking forward to a return trip.

I really wanted to like this place, especially since I live close by. The décor and the services are great, but the food is just average. I even went back one more time to give it another chance, but it was still the same. Evaluation of the food: both pizzas I got were shy on the ingredient side, the chicken soup should have been renamed "chicken base and pasta," salad out of a bag, potatoes instant, and meatloaf boring ( not sure if it was prepared , but I suspect it was frozen.) This really could be a great place, but they need to step it up in the kitchen. Get someone that has a passion for cooking and who doesn't microwave everything.

We went there the other night maily because Oklahoma Joe's was too crowded. all I ordered was a turkey club and fries. It came on a toasted hogie roll and the turkey was so dry that w/ a slthering of mayo I couldn't choke it down if i tried. My boyfriend's spaghetti was so so. Overall I don't think I will go back.

Cozy, family-run, close to home yet off the beaten Plaza path, and friendly. I usually don't go out for Italian, as pasta is something I can easily and cheaply eat at home, but this is a nice little neighborhood Italian atmosphere, affordable, and with some of the nicest darned waitstaff you'd ever wanna meet. Totally worthwhile for a low-key dinner out. I was last there with a group of friends, and we kind of mixed and matched our food choices, sharing and sharing alike. Appetizer-wise, the spinach-artichoke dip is different than other spin-dips, in a good way. I haven't yet pinpointed the ingredient that accounts for the difference, but I'll figure it out, hah! It's very hearty and flavorful. For my entree, I went simple, a bowl of pasta with olive oil, "spices," and parmesan. Very tasty, VERY garlicky, and satisfying. My dining companions got the chicken parm, which one pronounced too salty, and he bequeathed the leftovers to me. I thought it was great. Portion size is generous. The salad was pretty basic, but elevated to something far exceeding basic with the addition of the house-made ranch dressing. Pretty awesome. The house wine is VERY good for its price point, it's a good place to drink. My friend had the bartender whip her up a dirty martini that was quite knock-your-socks-off and reasonably priced. Overall, a tasty, satisfying place to eat a relaxed meal with friends, while dropping a not-exorbitant amount of cash, and having plenty to take home for lunch the next day.

I was pleasantly surprised by Sutera's. Really nice staff- seemed to be family owned but I'm not sure. Definitely a place where the locals go. It has a nice casual atmosphere. I got the chicken Caesar salad. The Caesar dressing was the best i've ever had, really tangy and you can taste the anchovies. My husband got the chicken Parm. Not the best but pretty tasty for $10. We have lived down the street for a few years and we wish we would have tried this place sooner!

This is a neighborhood Italian-American restaurant. There is no pretension here of being upscale or fine dining. They don't even have a pepper mill. But for what it is, I like it a lot. I would be a bit happier, if they had fish on the menu, or some entrees other than pasta. But that is not the nature of Sutera's. Surprisingly, you can do very well here as a vegetarian. The veggie wrap is simply outstanding, and is in a whole-wheat tortilla, so is a very healthy choice. I have gotten it with the rigatoni with red sauce, which is excellent. They also have an olive oil with spices sauce, which I'll try next time. The mini vegetable supreme pizza with a side house salad is a good choice. Their house Italian dressing is a winner. While I am not usually a fan of salads that emphasize iceberg lettuce, this one is an exception to the rule. On Wednesday's, their house wine bottles are discounted, and their house wine is a good one: Delicato. If instead ordered by the glass, they provide generous pours on any day of the week. I really appreciate that, and I don't at all like the tendency of some upscale restaurants to charge top dollar for cheapo small pours, which they claim are "standard." A few blocks away, Cupini's has better pizza, but no wine or beer. If given a choice between Sutera's pizza with reasonably priced good wine or beer and Cupini's pizza with iced tea, which would I choose? Easy choice. You know the answer.

Spinach dip was great. My steak was very good. Salad was fresh. No complaints at our table. .....except for the the hair my daughter pulled out of her Fettucini Alfredo. Everyone enjoyed their meals.

It was a long day, no one felt like cooking, and family Italian seemed like the perfect idea. (Does anyone know if this is the same Sutera's that was at the Sharp's/Forbes location in Brookside 20 years ago? We were totally committed to that place!) Anyway, back to Westwood, Sutera's was exactly what the night needed. Not too fancy, pleasant service, a reasonably priced glass of house wine for me, beer for J, music wasn't too loud, tv's were present but muted. Pleasant and relaxing. I ordered the chicken parmesan special for $9.99 - included soup or salad and bread - a good deal. It was yummy and hearty. J got the sausage casserole and ate the whole thing (and then, get this, complained that it was too much food - there were two sausages - I pointed out, though, that one wouldn't have been enough. He is not in the leftover habit, more of a clean your plate guy. So hah, I'm the one with the yummy lunch tomorrow). Didn't try the pizza, but based on the other reviews, I would like to sometime. J did say that the sausages were like meatball consistency, like they have bread in the mix (the way our neighbor Lillian Cavalieri taught my Irish mother to make them) - I don't know if that's good or bad - but he did scarf the whole meal. Salad dressing was a little watery - I think they forgot to stir it before ladling it up - iceberg mostly - the blue cheese option helped perk it up. So, a good down to earth place. Conventional in a good way. Bring the grandparents, and the kids, or a relaxing affordable meal when you're tired. Maybe someday I'll solve the mystery of the Brookside Sutera's 20 years ago.....

Our group of four ate lunch on April 6. We arrived around 12:30 and was seated promptly. A lot of patrons were there at the same time. Drink orders were taken quickly and served quickly. Two ordered the lasagna with meat sauce, one had sausage, green peppers and onions, and the fourth had the lunch special. The entrees come with a soup or salad and fresh bread. All enjoyed their soup or salad. The main dishes arrived shortly after finishing the starter course. The two not ordering the lasagna enjoyed them. The lasagna, on the other hand, was baked in a casserole dish and was on the dry side. The meat sauce was almost non-existence, especially at the ends of the casserole dish. It was tasty enough, not just as moist as we would have liked. All in all, it was a good meal and we all would return.

We've driven by Sutera's more times than I can count and when a Groupon was offered, we jumped at the chance to give it a try. When we first walked in, I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere (and the crowd - it was quite busy). The interior was way more updated than the exterior of the building and the bar area was hopping. I assume that it's a pretty popular neighborhood spot (since there isn't much else nearby). The lasagna is fantastic and the portions generous. My fiance likes the lagagna supreme and I stuck to the cheese. Both were delicious. Entrees come with a house salad and your choice of homemade Italian or ranch dressing. Pick the ranch. I am not even a big fan of ranch dressing and I thought it was excellent. On our next visit, I ordered a personal pizza and my dude went with the lasagna again. The pizza was really good and I'll definitely order it for carry out in the future. Nothing about Sutera's is mind-blowing, but it is a great little Italian American spot that shouldn't be overlooked.

For a business lunch, the atmosphere is perfect. There weren't many people at 11:00 and we had excellent service. I've never had the lasagna here but the pizza has always been pretty good. For some reason I had a crazy hankering for a hot ham and cheese. Sadly, it reminded me of the ham and cheese from my junior high cafeteria. Not a fan of the thick hoagie roll at all. Overall pretty flavorless. My co-worker opted for the weirdest salad I've ever seen. Lettuce, pasta and sausage? He doused ranch all over it so it couldn't have been too bad. The ranch here is AMAZING! They must make it there. The prices are reasonable weather or not it is a special. Perhaps the key to this place is to embrace the weird and go for the salad. The ordinary things on the menu are absolutely ordinary but the gems are worth trying.

Other than the intimate friendly environment, this is one of the worst meals I've had. The lunch special, which wasn't a special price, consisted of meatloaf--oversalted and plain, mashed potatoes--obviously from a box, and green beans--absolute mush. My friend ordered the lasagna supreme, which was another oversalted cheese mess without a single identifiable bit of color or green. Thirty bucks for an unoriginal lunch for two. I could've made a lunch like that of way better quality and flavor for a third of the cost. Won't ever come back.

We have see the restaurant a few times while driving by and wanted to stop in. Finally we got the chance! A beautiful day out and we were interested in sitting on the patio but it was rather small and so we had to sit inside instead. The service was attentive and friendly. I ordered the meat lasagna, which was on special, and my boyfriend ordered the shrimp pasta. We started with garlic bread, soup and salad. Our soup and salad came out almost immediately which was nice because we were hungry. The server returned to inform us that they were out of shrimp so my boyfriend changed his meal to the bacon wrapped filet. After we had finished appetizers, I inquired about our bread and the server said she had forgotten but it was delivered with the meal. The meat lasagna was FANTASTIC!! I loved the flavoring on the meat was really great and I felt that the sauce tasted homemade. It was nice to have a meal that was exactly what I was looking for. My boyfriend always orders his steak medium-rare and usually is disappointed when it is too over-cooked. But tonight at Sutera's his steak was perfectly cooked and the owner even dropped by to make sure of that!! All in all, we will return and bring our friends!

Visited on a pretty Aug 15 evening and sat outside. Great neighborhood feel with attentive service. Not like a CPK. Not like a Spin. More similar to a Ricco's or The Other Place type of pizza/food. i liked my pizza - good old fashioned full of cheese and spicy italian sausage. Husband liked his lasagna - ate the whole thing-lots of good cheese on that as well. The salads were fine-not fancy or gourmet, just crisp, cool with veggies and italian vinaigrette.

We went here last night-we had a Groupon and it is close to where we llive. We arrived around 5pm, there were only a few gentlemen seated at the bar, I don't recall seeing any other patrons at the tables. Our server was very efficient, she took our orders for our drinks, brought them to us, came back to get our order all in a very timely manner. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip- we have both had better and I wouldn't order again. The hubby had the lasagna supreme, it was large and he couldn't finish it all, which is quite a rarity. He also said is was "good." I ordered the sausage, green peppers and onion over linguini. Not good. I knew it didn't come with sauce, but it was very bland. I mean, there ws flavor to the sausage, but not near enough to compensate the rest of the dish. I was very disappointed in our bread!!! We received one baguette with a few packaged tubs of butter. I was excited until I picked it up- hard and cold!! argghhh!! No, not room temp either, it was cold!! Not hard as in crusty. Hard as in tough- I had to use both hands to tear it apart. My husband (Mr. Laid-back) just rips off pieces and places it in his ramekin of bubbling sauce and cheese. he says he is using it to soak up the gravy....hmmm...the food is reasonably priced, but I would prefer hot, yummy bread with my meal. I will go back to give it another try, I always give em 2 chances!!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians.
