I understand that there is not much to pick from, while driving along this stretch of I70, and I really like to support local eateries, but this one needs to be skipped. Eat at the Pizza Hut instead. I ordered the French dip and "Homemade" French Fries. The Roast Beef was cooked to death AND microwaved, and the roll was a nondescript piece of nothing-bread which was also microwaved. The middle of the meat was COLD. The fries were cooked in oil that was not hot enough, resulting in raw in the middle, limp, greasy fries. Yuck. The bright spot was the super hard-working, friendly server. She is the only reason this place gets more than one star. Too bad the food is not up to par.

This is nice little place to stop and eat. Food is good.. service is fast and people are very polite. Very clean and easy on and off the highway.

Right off I70, great place to stop on a road trip. Easy to find. Good price, great service. It's this cute little A-Frame building with cozy booths and big front windows, serving traditional American diner foods. We were there for breakfast and enjoyed all we had. I had oatmeal, hashbrowns, and toast (all vegan)... and about 8 cups of coffee :D The waitress was on top of the refills and to tidy up the table. She was always around to top off my cup with fresh coffee. The coffee and hashbrowns (very thinly shredded, not greasy or burnt) were notably good. We will be stopping here again on our next trip through KS. I would suggest you do the same.

My sweet little 94-year-old mother said that's the worst pancake I've had in my whole life. The pancake was so tough I had to try to cut it for her and did so with great difficulty. The link sausage was greasy and overcooked and hard to cut also. I don't think there was an extra charge for the fly that bothered us the entire meal. The young waiter did his best, but this is definitely not a place I would return to.

Friendly service and homemade pie. Great meal with the family! It's nice to find a place where everything's not the same prepackaged foodstuffs. This place is not fine dining, but one of the better down-home places we've tried.

When you're presented with endless fast food joints like McDonald's, Sonic, etc. etc. anything different will seem like a gift from heaven. Jake and Chet's Café is no gift from heaven nor did it pop up from hell. It's just an alternative from the chains with a couple of different items on the menu. The food was okay, no atmosphere to speak of, and the staff seemed to be friendly but a little inefficient.

Only non fast food place I saw. Got the special , bacon cheeseburger Mac with salad bar and a unique Texas chili. All pretty good $8.95 for all. Had a decent menu. Right off route 70. Place is called JAKE AND CHETT'S RESTAURANT. NOT , NO NAME.

Ok definitely 3.9 for a little small town cafe, no one in the car wanted McDonald's and the ice water was plentiful, the food was quick and hot and the bathrooms were clean. What else can you ask for! We had the cheeseburger, which my 8 year old son devoured, the patty melt that my husband also destroyed. Onion rings, fries both pretty good, hand made fries that were a little wilty but overall fresh, I wonder if they brine them all day before frying? The onion rings described by hubs as moderately tasty, but def not fresh and he's had worse. My daughter ordered the half burrito and it came with chili and cheese and lettuce smothered, not bad but def frozen fried. The service was quick and the atmosphere homey and clean. All in all a good spot for some diner food off I-70. Don't expect a greens salad with any kind of glazed nut and cheese other than cheddar here, no fancy sides like broiled Brussel sprouts, but they have fried pickles and cottage cheese. And a cute little display case for their slices of pie, $3 a slice, add a buck for a la mode, flip your little brown coffee cup over and boom, you've got dessert fit for for any traveler.

Staff was fairly rude, food was standard. Walked in, we asked if we should seat our selves. The response was read what's on the sign next to you. We sat down, second thing said to us was, "I am assuming you all need coffee." Waitress: "Oh no we don't thank you." U.S.: "So what do you want then?"

Fast food is a lot easier to find, but Jake and Chet's is worth the hunt. (Also, the name is really Jake and CHET'S, no double t in Chet's name.) They don't make it easy for you to find. The road sign outside the restaurant claims the A-frame just a couple hundred yards north of I-70 is a Chinese restaurant, and only the sharp-eyed will notice the Jake and Chet's sign in the afternoon shadow. My wife and I both had burgers, and they were obviously made of fresh meat and freshly pressed. The juice pooled on the plate. My wife had the fries, which were browned and home-made - delicious, but not quite as good as the cup of perfectly-peppered cup of Chicken and Dumpling soup that I chose for my own side. WOW - that was home-cooking, and wonderful. The service was good, the prices were right, and the food was delicious. A perfect road stop between KC and Denver!

Stopped here on the way thru I-70. Super sweet people working and the burger was delicious! It's a little hole in the wall local place and definitely worth the stop!

Not a place for a quick bite to eat, but a place to sit, chat and enjoy a home cooked meal.

Excellent breakfast! Biscuits and gravy were above par and the coffee was great too!

This is a great place where even if it is a little more expensive than the typical diner, you are getting a good value for your money because it's homemade. Hamburger patties are hand made, homemade fries needed salt but I really liked that they were made in house. Chicken salad had a whole chicken breast on it plus 2 hard boiled eggs- lots of protein. Someone in our party got the taco burger and it looked amazing. It was huge!

Waitress was very rude and for no apparent reason. It was early in her shift, and there was only one other table with 2 customers. We were very polite, but she treated us like we were idiots who were wasting her time. Food was just okay.

We just ate a great dinner here. Was looking for a place to stop on I-70 and pulled up Jake & Chet's on Yelp. It's a super-cute A-frame building. They had a big sign up so it was easy to find (must have put that up since the previous review). Nothing fancy here, it's hearty diner-style home cooking. We had the pork chop, fried chicken and hamburger steak dinners. Came with one trip to their salad bar (not massive, but it's just fine), potato, peas and a big dinner roll. They also serve sandwiches, burgers, and breakfast all day (open til 10pm). Looked like a locals place - lots of people were paying by check! They do take debit cards. Definitely worth a stop if you're on I-70!

Very happy with this breakfast. Everything was fresh and tasted great! If I'm ever in Wakeeney Kansas again, this is our breakfast spot.

When driving cross-country, the portion of the trip through Kansas can be overwhelmingly boring. It seems like there is nothing out there, but this cafe in WaKeeney is a great spot to stop for some simple diner food and great pie. We snagged the last two pieces of apple pie and my wife - who loves to bake - was impressed. Beyond the food, this place has a good helping of mid-century character and locals too. The assistant police chief caught a quick dinner while on duty and another older local was catching a nap between bits of his country fried steak. If you don't get a big enough dose of mid-century rustic for here, wander downtown and checkout the old stores that may actually be frozen in time in the 60s.

Excellent Liver & Onions! Homemade fries. A little off the interstate but worth the side trip.

Four of us went in on the way back from Colorado and two of us thought it was great while the other two thought it was just ok. I had the Philly sandwich which didn't look like much but had excellent flavor. Another had the Reuben that he said was spot on. The two dished that were considered average were the open faced roast beef that was too salty and the chili that was good but kind of bland.

Wow, what a find. Jake and Chet's Cafe is a little hard to find on Wa keeneys main street. Don't let the appearance fool you. This is a real diamond in the rough. They have a rather wide ranging menu of American foods. Good food. Very friendly wait staff.

What a gem for this dive. Great home cooking with low prices. We hit this place via recommendations from Yelp, while driving through Kansas. Pancakes are plate size. I chose the big Jake which had a plate full of biscuits and gravy, 3 strips of bacon, two eggs, and hashbrowns. Total cost $8.25. Great food and great value. Our entire party of 6 was very satisfied with this place. Glad we found it.
