Small place but a great place to go for Mexican. Really had good tacos. This is a must place to put on your places to eat list .

On our way to Texas from Idaho; finally some authentic Mexican food! It was delicious!! I probably would not have stopped here but read the yelp reviews. Worth the wait.

OMG. Go here. This place is the quintessential hole in the wall and it's amazing. Daily specials that are priced perfectly. I went 2 days in a row it was that delicious! The soft corn tacos are delicious along with the burrito! It is in a gas station but that doesn't take away from its deliciousness!

I visited this restaurant last night and the experience left a very bad taste in my mind metaphorically speaking. I had been here one other time a few years back when they first opened and I recalled thinking it was pretty good, so I figured I'd give it another shot. When I walked in I noticed it was extremely hot as though the air conditioner was not even turned on. No big deal to me since I was planning on getting my food to go. I only thing i ordered was one regular marinated pork burrito for $4.99 at 5:48 pm. You may wonder why I know the exact time? For the next 20 minutes I sat in the extremely warm dining room waiting for my one burrito I ordered. Finally at 6:18 almost to the second I got my food and left extremely upset, without so much as an apology. I could understand if they were really busy, short staffed, or something else like that, but there is no way it takes 20 minutes to make a single food item particularly when it's an assembled item with only the meat to cook. So I got home with my burrito and I realized just how small this $5 burrito was. I'd include a picture for reference because I actually took one. This thing was literally no bigger than one of the $2 burritos from Taco Bell. I felt like the combination of time spent and dollar value for what I ordered was lacking and that is a serious understatement. Taste wise however the burrito itself in all its tiny glory was pretty darn tasty which is the only reason this review got a 2nd star. I'm sure I was probably just an isolated case in terms of food prep time but I don't believe the price is justified for what I had. It I very likely that I will never visit this establishment. I am like many others the most harmful type of patron to a restaurant as I don't throw a fit and I don't beg for apologies expecting to be given some free item in return for my troubles. I will just leave quietly and write a review if the experience is beyond my expectations or far below, in this case you can guess which one. And word of mouth is the most powerful advertising medium. I won't be recommending this place to anyone.

For authentic Mexican food, this is the place! Food has been fresh and tasty every time I've been here. Best guacamole I've ever had - I could eat tubs of it. I'm a big fan of their carnitas - always hits the spot. Soft or crunchy, corn or flour - all equally delicious for so cheap! When I have it to go, they always give me extra salsa (red or green). This place is definitely worth the trip off a beaten path. Note: They only take Visa or MasterCard if you don't have cash

  • Michael W.

Dollar tacos on Tuesdays are the best deal in town. Staff is always understaffed and run with the bare minimum. Some of the staff is pretty rude. The dollar tacos are worth it though.

  • Ethan T.

Was not impressed with the over all look and sanitation of the restuarunt. Rice tasted like sweat and beans were dry. Would not recommend to anyone outside of Salina.

  • Jill H.

A MAZ ING!!! Who would have thought there was a GREAT Mexican food place connected to a little nondescript gas station in Salina??? Definitely a "come as you are" type of place. The pork green chili was good and once I poured some queso and salsa on the burrito #1, I was in heaven!! Everything is made from scratch. The restrooms and seating area was very clean. Will definitely be coming back!!

Driving through KS on our way to Dallas. We love Mexican food and figured we'd give Taco Master a try based upon reviews and we were not disappointed! Tacos are delicious!!! We tried the crunchy and soft tacos and they were the best tacos I've had! We tried the chicken and beef...so full of flavor. The rice was good too! Chips are homemade

Nice place to stop if you want to eat in Salina. It's a few miles off the interstate but it's well worth it. The staff are very friendly and food was prepared quickly. We got there around 12:30pm and they were already out of beef barbacoa. I got the burrito special which was fine. They were not heated which was fine but they're specialty tacos are where it's at.

  • Scott P.

Found Taco Master on Yelp and glad we did! Al pastor soft corn tacos were excellent, and the hard shell variety were quite good as well. Service was outstanding - all of the employees were extremely friendly and courteous. Chips and salsa to start the meal were a great touch, and the entire experience will surely bring us back.

  • Michael W.

A Salina "Must Try". The food is delicious and well priced. Taco Tuesday is the best deal in town, and the best part is they are WAY better than you would expect for a $1 taco. It's nice to dine somewhere that the owner is genuinely grateful for your business. See you Tuesday!

  • Melanie R.

Vapple is very good. Love the fish tacos.

  • Jose T.

I went three days in a row here. Great food and the workers are super friendly. If you leave there hungry, it's your fault. Try the burritos, you won't be disappointed. If you like spicy, ask for the EXTRA HOT sauce they keep out of reach of novices. this will be my regular stop next time I'm in Salina.

  • Darrin S.

I visited Taco Master after hearing various raves from friends and Facebook. My first visit was on a Sunday, I quickly realized that this food was something I wanted to come back for. If you are in 100 mile radius on Tuesdays, you gotta make a trip for their $1 taco special. Believe me they are like no other, even at $1.89, these tacoes are to die for. Their staff is super friendly, and the owner genuinely cares about his customers. I would put this on a place you must visit in Kansas, great job Taco Master!

Update: vegans can get Cali Burrito with no meat, no cheese and no cream, add guac. Wow. 1. These guys made me a wicked awesome vegan taco (x2). Every time I am in Salina, I will eat here. 2. Attention Salina Bankers!! Can you please eat at this place, and then note the 5 star yelp rating (which is hard to get), plus reviews claiming this is the most authentic Mexican food in Salina? THEN, can one of you mucky mucks Please bank roll a loan for these guys to move out of their current location (in a gas station) and into a nice shiny new kitchen/dining room? I mean, what does it say about Salina as a town if some of the best food is dispensed from a gas station? It's just not NICE. And it kind of scares the tourists away. I expect your loan ROI to be good since these guys know how to cook. Thanks!

  • Pat H.

We came in looking for some vegan Mexican food based on another review. Deanna waited on us. She didn't know for sure how to help us at first but made a quick call to the owner and worked it out. We got veganized Cali Burritos and a couple bean tacos. They were excellent and we were very happy with Deanna's friendly and helpful service. This made our night after walking out of a local restaurant /bar where we were treated rudely by the bartender for asking about vegan options. We're only in Salina once a year for three days but we will definitely be back next year.

  • L J.

Excellent tacos, friendly people, will absolutely stop here again when passing through!! It's a hidden gem inside a gas station which is the next hot trend!

Amazing tacos and guacamole inside a gas station, no less! Stop here if you get the chance, you won't be disappointed. Very friendly staff too :)

Found this place on Yelp and gave it a try. Delicious . Hard shell taco's ample meat in a crispy shell, beef chimichanga special had rice and beans with it. All delivered by cashier/server. Clean establishment, friendly people, good food, good value.

  • Cnr L.

I recently tried the quesadilla and their nachos. They were awesomely delicious. The nachos will be a must-order next time I go. My rating shows 4 stars but should be a 4.5.

  • Kyle M.

Hidden gem at Salina gas station. The chicken dishes are not worth the time but the steak and pork is awesome! Definitely worth checking it out.

    (5)
  • Deyanira G.

I went on taco Tuesday and my order was never placed. When I asked for my taco salad they asked if it it was ground beef or chicken. I ordered chicken but was given ground beef. I learned my lesson, never go on taco Tuesday. Yes, some of their food is good like their tortas and taco salad but their fish tacos are bland.

My favorite Mexican food in Salina! I eat here like 3 times a week. Awesome daily specials!

    (5)
  • Melissa W.

Excellent food! This little gem is tucked away on the side of a gas station. The food is fresh and to die for. I had the pork green chili with rice and beans and would order again in a heartbeat. The serving size is perfect. Not too much, not too little. They fry their own hard taco shells on site. Major plus. I will eat here again.

    (5)
  • Chris D.

Surprisingly great. But that's why I trust yelp because driving into the gas station will leave you doubting. But make it in and you want regret it.

    (5)
  • Ben S.

This is the best mexican food in Salina. I've never written a Yelp review before but I had to write one for this place.

    (5)
  • Caryn M.

Excellent tacos! Had the carne asada and al pastor on corn. Stopped on a long drive based on yelp reviews and were very pleased. People are super nice, prices are super reasonable and food was great! Gas station next door leaves a bit to be desired but don't let that deter you. Food is well worth the stop!

    (5)
  • Lindsey I.

Kinda weird location but soooo good! Ive had one of the specialty burritos as well as an a la carte burrito and they were both great! If you're driving through you won't be disappointed. And if you live here and haven't tried it, you should!

  • Jewels M.

Delicioso! You kind of have to look for this place but it's worth it. Fresh, friendly, filling and affordable.

  • Lori D.

We stopped here based on the Yelp reviews and were pleased to find a tasty little gem! The staff was very welcoming and friendly. The guacamole was fantastic and has some heat. We ate the tacos with beef and chorizo which were very good! There are three tacos with a generous portion of filling. The frijoles are also quite good but a little salty. I highly recommend the Taco Master -don't be deterred by the location.

    (5)
  • Mike M.

Damn good, everything tastes homemade and authentic! Hard shell tacos are made with a grilled tortilla making it really good! I was really surprised by this hidden gem! Recommended! As a matter of fact, I made it a point to bring the rest of my family here when we came back to Salina! Keep up the good work guys! DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED!

  • Kristine M.

So good!!!!!! We were a little afraid when we drove up since it's next to a truck stop but don't let the location scare you!!! Great place!!!!

  • Crista S.

Driving thru Salina and found great reviews for Taco Master so decided to stop in. Everything we tried was fresh and tasty. Food was delivered fast. Great guacamole and chips, fish taco was yummy as was the corn taco with fajita beef. Accidentally ordered a torts instead of a gordita. Happy we did, it was fantastic. Should definitely check it out!! Bonus, everyone was friendly :)

  • Buck C.

Ahh Tacos as they should be. If you think tacos are what they serve at Taco Bell come here for a little enlightenment. The slow cooked pork tacos are especially good. I've had tacos all over America and in Mexico as well, and I must say these are some of the best.

    (5)
  • Julia F.

The food was excellent! The guacamole was made fresh and without onions as I requested. The pork was tender and delicious! The staff were friendly and helpful! If you are ever in Salina check them out.

  • Terence S.

I'm from SoCal originally, lived there 30 years, and still return frequently to visit family, so I believe I know Mexican food. This place isn't quite up to par with the best Mexican restaurants there, but it's still pretty darn good. We had the Tacos Mexicanos, the Burrito #2 (beef), a standard (shredded) beef burrito, and chips with guacamole. The tacos were really good, but they had chorizo in them, and chorizo can make anything taste good, even your socks. The standard burrito had more beef in it than the special Burrito #2, because the special had rice and beans, and we paid more for it. Tip: unless you like rice and beans in your burrito, pass on the upgrade. The beef in the burritos lacked a little bit of flavor. They should come up with a slightly better marinade. Still, it was pretty darn good. Everything was fresh made, including the guacamole, which is always a big plus. Overall, if you're stuck in Salina for the night and you like Mexican food, this place won't disappoint you.

  • Jana W.

This restaurant is the best authentic Mexican food in Salina. They have no complaints from anyone. I've been eating here since they first opened and it's still amazing every time I eat here. Try this food you will be a amazed.

Carne asada street tacos were very good! Employees were very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely plan on stopping by again on our way through Salina.

  • Jen F.

Want taco truck deliciousness from inside a restaurant at a gas station? I know, sounds strange, but you really want to Eat here. Had heard reviews from friends about it being amazing. They were right. All walks of life come out for their tacos, burritos, and such. You don't pay for the extras of beans and rice, just for the main dishes. And you don't pay much. Excellent value. Excellent food made fresh, and tasty.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
