I really wish we had this good of an Italian restaurant in Lawrence. Seriously! Yummers! This was our second time to eat dinner here. EVERYTHING has been delicious. Bread - excellent. Cesar Salad - great. Champagne Shrimp - to die for! Bruschetta wine - just wonderful! Oh yeah, and the Chocolate Mousse cake for dessert - there is a heaven. Get over here and keep this guy in business! FYI, we split everything. Portions generous.

Hidden Gem! Luigis competes with the best of them. Fantastic authentic Italian food, nice atmosphere and the waitress was great. We will definitely be back.

High quality delicious food, authentic atmosphere, fair prices. I've been there many times and I've never had a bad or even mediocre meal! We have hosted family events there and the service has been wonderful. The meal presentation is something that makes it stand out in Ottawa, and the variety of dishes offered rivals Italian options in even bigger surrounding cities.

This charming place got our 5 star rating as soon as the bread with dipping oil reached our table. The stars would have increased exponentially if I could use more of them to rate. The waitress and chef were beyond helpful and legitimately concerned about our enjoyment of the meal. They cheerfully worked with my food allergies, were prompt and attentive, and oh so nice. Both of our dishes were the kind that make you sit back in wonder--the pasta sampler and seafood de mare. So authentic and esculent. Eat here.

This place is wonderful! The calamari is perfectly fried not greasy at all. My bf and I shared the Luigi's special and I highly recommend it. The sauce is creamy and delicious. We also shared the combo plate with meat lasagna, manicotti, ravioli and spinach lasagna which was also very good. Decor is very cute and clean and our waitress was very friendly. If you are ever driving near here you definitely need to try it out.

The food was amazing! Very delish and more traditional style. The bread and dipping oil was absolutely the best I have had. Prices were very reasonable and the staff were very nice and quite attentive. I love that they had Italian beer!

Really good, nicely prepared and presented food. My family and I didn't know what to expect, and were pleasantly surprised. We have not had Italian food this good since leaving Chicago 13 years ago. Everything was excellent - we had chicken pomodoro, linguine with clams, shrimp florentine, and Mediterranean pizza. For dessert we had cannoli and tiramisu (homemade!). The coffee was nice too, and worthy to stand with the excellent desserts.

Wow! An excellent dinner from start to finish. There is a nice ambience which makes you forget you're in Kansas. The menu is extensive with the exception of the wine list. My husband is allergic to tomatoes, and there were several non tomato base dishes from which to choose. I had the Luigi's special with sausage and a creamy marinara sauce. Delicious! And portion size was more than generous. We finished with a piece of not too sweet lemon cake - limoncello. Very enjoyable!

Our new favorite restaurant in town. We plan on many more visits. Tremendous value for the quality and amount of food. The house salad dressing was particularly tasty. With quick service, a warm atmosphere and candle light, Luigi's offers its dinners an elegant and unique experience in the area.

My friend and I worked up an appetite after hiking nearly two hours on the nearby Flint Hills Trail and wondered whether a decent restaurant existed in downtown Ottawa. Luigi's bright yellow awning on Main Street caught our eye, as did the sign for Italian food. We arrived about noon and thought the three other tables of seemingly happy patrons was a good sign. The waiter (Romeo) was breathtakingly gorgeous with angelic curls, classic Roman features, and a heavy Italian accent. We heard a man yelling Italian through the opening to the kitchen. Our chances for decent food just increased and we found out as we were seated at tables with linen tablecloths and napkins that the restaurant is family owned. The menu had enough variety, but mostly pastas and pizzas, not the place for a main course salad. We both ordered pasta dishes: Pasta Diablo for me and Pasta Pizzaola for my friend. Then the bread arrived. A mass of cloud-soft homemade goodness, tender and warm. Real, salt-free butter. The salad greens were crisp and creatively assembled, more than just iceberg lettuce, and the dressing a simple olive oil with a kiss of balsamic. Yum! The pasta was firm, not mushy. They call it Diablo for a reason. It's spicy. I found the chicken pieces a bit strange, rubbery, not flavorful, but edible, especially smothered in the sauce. My friend's Pizzaola sauce over Italian sausage and angel hair was better. No dessert. Romeo's blazing smile was all we needed as we left. Service very good. Food very good. Value: Excellent. The whole meal, including iced tea, came to only $18 + tax.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
