Hands down, best ice cream place I have ever ate at. Great service- they requested many of their popular flavors and allowed me to sample then before I ordered. I'm not from Kansas City, but I will definitely be going back!

Busy place, but yummy ice cream. I rarely take the time to enjoy an ice cream shop outting, but I prefer Sylas & Maddi's for the unique flavors. Fun place for date night, or an afternoon treat with the kiddos.

Stopped here since it was the only place open on the 4th of July around us. Lot's of options and always looks busy but it made my belly very upset. Not sure if it has gluten in their basic ice cream or what. Normally places will give you a "pup cup" if you have a dog in the car-not this place. She wanted me to buy a junior for almost $3, instead I had her give me a small sample spoon. I ordered the reese's ice cream, jason got the snickers and I can't remember what my niece ordered. It was pretty disorderly in there, it would have been easy to walk out without paying. Cute place Busy No Pup Cup Made me, a gluten free person, sick. Disorderly

Homemade hard style ice cream. Sweet cream is the base for almost every flavor. They had a good 20+ flavors available. Three sizes including junior, small and medium. The junior was plenty for a snack. You can get it in a cup or waffle cone they make in house. About five people working which was sufficient on a busy night and they were able to accurately tell us everything in each flavor. We were allowed to taste any flavor. Well lit out door seating. Free water cups.

Charming little ice-cream parlor located near the huge AMC complex, it feels old-fashioned in the best, most inviting sense of that word. Roomy & brightly lit, with the delicious smell of handmade waffle cones assaulting your olfactory sense from the moment you crack open the door, everything here has a nostalgic appeal that begs you to jettison the diet in favor of these creamy delights. There's a wide variety of flavors, from traditional to creative, and they don't mind giving you a generous taste or three while you dither. Scoops are generous, and the price very reasonable. I have a hunch it's going to become a post-movie destination.

Can't resist homemade ice cream!!!!! And Sylas & Maddy's has some darn good ice cream! I was quite surprised to stumble upon this local establishment smack dab in the middle of strip mall central in Olathe. They make all their ice creams and cones in house. The flavors are good...not too crazy, but interesting enough that I sampled plenty. :) Lots of candy bar mix ins, cake flavors, coffee, etc. Add to the delicious ice cream the fact that the staff were very friendly. They are proud of their product and happy to let you sample as much as your heart desires. Glad we found this place, and I'm looking for excuses to come back!

After a couple hours at Cosmic jump with our super active preschoolers, a friend told me we HAD to come here and get ice cream after. I assumed the place was new because I've been in the shopping center before and had never noticed it. We waited a few minutes for our turn, which gave us plenty of time to look over the menu. Our kids both ordered lemonade sherbet in a cake cone. With the junior option, that's the only choice so I ordered the banana pudding in a cup. It was okay, but not amazing by any stretch of the imagination. Plus there was no where for us to sit because the two large groups before us took over all of the seats and tables. Of course after we left, I discovered that they were in the entertainment book I recently received (in July they're only $5 with free shipping - well worth it!!) so we might head back just to use it if we're in the area.

I love this place! The ice cream is all really good and inexpensive too. I love taking all my friends here and they love it as well. I first discovered Sylas & Maddy's in Lawrence and then my friend told me there was one in Overland Park which I was stoked about because I don't want to drive all the way to Lawrence for ice cream. They change out a few of their flavors every now and then but the main/popular ones are almost always available. My favorite flavors are... Green Tea - Which is only offered in Lawrence sometimes Mint Chip - Mint ice cream with chocolate chips Strawberry Bug (?) - Strawberry ice cream with Oreo bits Also, on Tuesday from 6PM - Close they have college night so if you show your college ID you can buy a single dish/cone and get one free (the other party member has to be there though).

Since my review, I've tried a lot of other ice cream places in the area. This is still hands down the best.

  • Noah M.

Wow! I've heard great things about the ice cream here from friends in Lawrence and I saw there was another location in Olathe and I was in the area so thought I'd stop by and try it! AMAZING! Soo many varieties and combos its endless! Right upon walking in you're greeted with the fresh smell of waffle cones! The menu board is colorful and unique! They have local favorites like rock chalk Jayhawk and tigers track for our local colleges! I got butter pecan and Jayhawk and both were super creamy and delicious! I'd be here everyday if I didn't live so far away! I'd also like to point out how cheap it was here! 12 bucks for 3 double scoops! Very affordable!

Sylas & Maddy's Rocky Road just rocked my world! I've been eating Rocky Road ice cream since I was a kid and tonight I had the best Rocky Road I've ever tasted! It was LOADED with marshmallows, which is my favorite part! Also, I was impressed that the girls behind the counter were able to move the line so quickly! Great service! I asked if they had Rocky Road and the girl waiting on me actually went to the back to get it! I was so impressed with her customer service!

  • K G.

Yummy! Many unique flavors. Patient staff that will let you sample a couple before you decide. There was a line on Friday night but it moved along. Everyone in my party of 7 enjoyed their selections in the homemade waffle cones. There is some outdoor seating.

  • Grace R.

I love this place! The flavored are so unique and the staff is very friendly. They let you sample flavors and are very patient with small children. The only thing that leaves room for improvement is the lack of seating, and $3.00 seems a little steep for a scoop ice cream. Other than that I love this place, and will definitely be back.

Growing up in Lawrence, I've had Sylas & Maddy's ice cream quite a bit. Their ice cream is unique, delicious, and very inexpensive. The Olathe location is a little hard to get to since it is right by Target and AMC, but well worth the hassle. The staff is always super friendly and knowledgeable. I recommend trying the Dinosaur Egg or the Kansas Twister.

  • Libby J.

Great ice cream but poor customer service. I was told I could not use a gift card because I picked out the wrong item. Ok- But it is a gift card. Why couldn't they take the amount of the gift card off of my order then? But instead of explaining it -the woman said I needed to pay and to next time get the correct item. Wow! I guess they feel they can treat people like this since they are always busy.

  • C S.

Oh my goodness... where to begin... I tried 6 samples, and I totally expected the staff to get impatient with me, but they did not. I ended up deciding on cotton candy and birthday cake. Definitely the best ice cream I've ever had--- I even ordered a pint to go because I live far away!

  • Lauren M.

Tried the Peanut Butter Freak & Rock Chalk Jayhawk flavors for the first time (never been here). Very good, but nothing out of the ordinary. We went for date night, and were pleased with our flavor decisions. My husband really enjoyed "The Dark Side" which was super dark chocolate flavored. I can't remember the other flavor he got but we enjoyed it.

  • Anna L.

Great place for ice cream!!! Very reasonable price. When you walk through the door, you're surrounded by The smell of Fresh waffle cone. Yum!!! It has very fresh ice cream and so many delicious flavor. Coming back really soon!!!

  • Rachel R.

This is the beat ice cream place in Olathe. They also have a location in Lawrence. I love the selection of ice cream flavors. There is something for everyone. Make sure to take advantage of the waffle cones! They are made fresh daily! Da bomb is my favorite flavor.

  • Sonny S.

Best homemade ice cream in town, the staff are so nice and don't mind that our kids are indecisive and want to try different flavors before choosing. Great place to come during the summer with the family to hangout outside and eat our ice cream.

  • Laurel A.

Always a great treat with delicious ice cream and a menagerie of unique flavors! Stop in for a cone or bring home a carton, all of the flavors are delicious and sure to bring a smile to anyone's face.

My wife and I love this place! Staff is very friendly and ice cream is delicious!!! Definitely worth a trip across town to to get some ice cream!

For good ole traditional ice cream, this place meets my standards. I was happy to stumble upon this place in a small plaza next to Miracle Ear and Sprint, across from Burger King. Had some samples and couldn't decide because the variety of flavors did not disappoint me. I ended up getting a mix of Dark Roast Expresso with some chips inside and Maddy's Mud which was Coffee ice cream with brownies and oreos. Oh it was ice cream heaven in a cup. My hubby loved his also, he got a mix of Pistachio Almond and Butter Brittle. Although, immediately afterward he saw Kansas Twister and realized he liked that more, that will be first on our next trip. Average price is $3 to 4 for single or double scoop. Small sit down area but a cozy mom and pop style shop that they said has been around 14yrs impressive and keep up the great work.

Loved the chocolate mocha- talked the kids out of 31 flavors on a road trip. All were so glad I did. The waffle cones are amazing.

  • Daniel H.

Ice cream! There were too many flavors to remember to list but I believe somebody else took a picture of the flavors. I tried the Blue Moon ice cream flavor and no it didn't taste like the beer. lol It was supposed to taste like Froot Loops and it did! I ended up going with a single scoop of Cookie Dough ice cream in a cup ($3.35 total) while a single scoop on a waffle cone was ($3.75 total). The staff were really friendly and nice. My Cookie Dough ice cream was good and I can't believe it was homemade. There was a sign that read "Made fresh daily" so you know it wasn't old ice cream. lol I would definitely come here again for some ice cream if I was in the area. Yummy ice cream!

Amazing ice cream. GO HERE! Perfect for a date when it's nice outside, or take it home for a night alone watching movies, ice cream is always a good choice.

    (5)
  • Bryn C.

The ice cream is always so great here. The waffle cones are always fresh with a whopper in the bottom of the cone to keep the ice cream from melting out. I didn't even know that this location was still open but was happy to find that it was when I was in Olathe hankering some ice cream. I love all the choices and attempt to try something different each time but often end up with either Gold Dust or a classic sweet cream.

  • Zach G.

Seriously, this place is the bomb. I'm not even a huge ice cream fan, and this place gets 5 stars easily. I went to school in Lawrence, and knew how good Sylas and Maddys was, but never went to the one in Olathe, despite living 3 minutes from it for 3+ years. Until recently... I was reminded of the greatness of Sylas and Maddys, and cannot get it out of my head. It's like a long lost lover that did me wrong - I am always thinking about it, but doing my best to stay away. Cursing its name and missing its caress at the same time. The flavors seem endless, and unlike Baskin Robbins, they look fresh, not crystallized from being frozen for so damn long. I really don't need my ice cream to look like Walt Disney. I've tried the birthday bash, and the rocky road, and both were smooth, delicious, and sweet without being overbearing on the sweetness (a little sweet goes a long way with me). The rocky road could have used a little bit more on the marshmallow and nuts front, but that's really getting in to the #FirstWorldProblems side of things. I need to try a (house made) waffle cone, because they look absolutely delicious. The staff are very friendly, and there is a little seating area outside (and in) should you decide to devour it immediately. This is also a perfect after-movie destination on a warm evening.

Best place to get ice cream. It can get busy. But the workers are friendly and happy to let you try the flavors.

  • Lisa S.

We love Sylas and Maddy's. The service is friendly. They'll give you samples to help decide which flavors you'd like to get. One scoop is HUGE and you can get it as 2 flavors that are actually 2 big scoops themselves. Love getting the waffle cones. I like the flavors as there are many unique combinations with several flavors in one container. Those are my favorites. Something for everyone.

bitter ice cream review sando (as opposed to a compliment sandwich): The customer service sucked. Whether or not the guy was a greenhorn, there was no need to be rude and uptight to a paying and polite customer. Too much attitude... Unique and appealing flavors There was an eyelash baked into my waffle cone.

  • Phon W.

Best Ice Cream in Olathe, hands down. I go there often and have been there many times and I still like to try different flavors....If i'm in a coffee mood, Maddy's Mudd is delish. There are too many flavors to name but I'm sure they're all good.

  • Khalil B.

Friendly customer service, lots of unique homemade flavors and the best shake in the city!

    (5)
  • Elizabeth N.

I don't even think this is ice cream. It is like frozen cake. It is so chewy and thick that it almost requires a knife and fork. The flavors are really cool, and I'm glad everyone else likes it I guess. I wouldn't want to try a shake from here- it might choke you!

  • Kristen L.

Been coming here for years and yet to be disappointed. Great service, 20 plus flavors of hand dipped ice cream(unlimited sampling), homemade fresh waffle cones, shakes and sundaes.... Their portions are generous; one scoop is plenty for me. And it's reasonably priced. They always have some seasonal flavors. Right now they have Pumpkin Pie, Cinnamon, and Apple Pie. The Pumpkin Pie was incredible; taste exactly like pumpkin pie...so creamy and full of flavor!

What would a summer night be without a visit to Sylas & Maddy's? It is so worth waiting for...yes, you will be in line during the summer. You may have a favorite flavor, but honestly, you can't go wrong with the delectable concoction on a cone. Sweet and savory goodness. The employees have always been super. They are always patient and super friendly. If you see a table that is available when you get there...GET IT!! Seating is limited inside and out.

  • Veronica H.

Best ice cream I've had in a long time! The biggest complaint I would have is that the floor could use a deep cleaning, but the ice cream was so good I didn't care about the floor. The customer service was great too. An employee happened to be there on her day off and saw it was very busy, so she pitched in until the crowd was taken care of. Awesome!

  • David M.

This is homemade ice cream at it's best. A Kansas original, we have never been disappointed. The "sweet cream" ice cream (vanilla) is awesome, but my favorite is blueberry cheesecake. They make it all in Kansas. Their original store is in Lawrence. Our family is a fan of both. Take an awesome trip back to the past and enjoy a handmade waffle cone, with ice cream made in Kansas! I love this place.

  • Arian E.

This place has pretty darn good Ice Cream. It's no Bi Rite or top shelf custom icecream, but it's pretty good for KC standards. The waffle cones are good. Epic mint is quite nice, but the KC Tiger Tracks is fantastic! Highly recommend. The help is really friendly, and the service great. The clientele is made up of fat, middle aged white people. But, it is Johnson County, Kansas, so that is obviously redundant. I took a ping-pong here this last visit (Chinese girl) and one couple gave me disapproving looks (wtf?) and several fat white guys stared openly at the attractive younger asian girl with me. Sorry guys; she's already purchased for the evening!

This place is fantastic and i am a mizzou alumni with a negative view of anything that starts in Lawrence...

  • Michael R.

Its ice cream. Generally, its tough to go wrong with ice cream, although some flavors you can find at the grocery store do try. Sylas & Maddy's has lots of interesting flavors. Obviously, if a flavor looks bad to you, you should avoid it. But the good flavors are good. Price for a scoop of ice cream is above $2. One scoop is enough for one person. You might be able to split it. You can get it in a styrofoam bowl or a waffle cone for a little more. Apparently, you can get it in a sundae, but nobody in my group wanted to do that. Nice thing is its within walking distance from a bunch of restaurants, perfect for finishing a nice meal or getting the bad taste out of your mouth.

BUTTER BRICKEL ICECREAM! this is the only place where i have been able to find butter brickel icecream. cute little icecream shop in the kc area (olathe). semi expensive for what you get.

my absolute absolute very favorite ice cream place!! I've been going here since I was a kid and still continue to today. I try new flavors every time but my absolute flavor will always be Wedding Cake. The amount of ice cream they give you are so much more than other stores and the prices always beat the other local ice cream stores nearby in my opinion. And the people working there are always so nice and friendly to talk to! Definitely the best homemade ice cream store in the area.. I love Sylas & Maddy's!

    (5)
  • Shana S.

I have been going to the various Sylas & Maddy's locations since I was a freshman in college. I love this place. I'm glad they've expanded outside of Lawrence, so that I can actually go there without a 30 minute drive to wise up and turn around. They have so many great flavors. It's like Baskin Robbins on crack. Good crack. They also have a lot of other options besides the scoop in a cup or cone. Shakes, malts, floats, ice cream sodas... I need to try these other things, but I'm always just so happy with a scoop of ice cream. Sweet cream. Cotton Candy. Blue Moon. Rock Chocolate Jayhawk. I would go here more often, but it's ice cream. It's not good for you, so don't expect it to be. Don't go if you'll have a guilty conscience.

Great home made ice cream but place is run down. It is clean but old and not in a good way.

Always delicious! Same price as crappy Dairy Queen. Better quality by far. And you get just as much. Sometimes even more! :D

I was stoked when I found out Sylas and Maddys was now in KC. I fell in love with the rich homemade ice cream in Lawrence, and it was worth heading out to Olathe to indulge. The butter cream ice cream mixed with peanut butter cups in a waffle bowl may be the best dessert ever. The ice cream is thick and rich but in a good, yummy homemade way. The interior is always pleasent--it has an old fashioned ice cream parlor vibe that is hard to find and I have never had an unfriendly or negative experience. I respectfully disagree that it tastes like store bought Breyers. You can absolutely taste the difference and freshness that accompanies lack of preservatives and slower churning... YUMMY, YUMMY, YUMMY. If it weren't for my constant look out for my "girlish figure" I would live in Olathe just to eat Sylas and Maddys everyday--It is that good.

    (5)
  • Amanda P.

The sweet smell makes my teeth ache! There's definitely something different about homemade ice cream; texture, taste, consistency, smell. I must give credit where credit is due. For Sylas & Maddy's to make homemade ice cream, with the smooth rich texture of store-bought...that's pretty impressive. And the taste is amazing. I love the parlor appeal of Sylas & Maddy's, and the ice cream is so good. Personally, I could just sit in there and sniff the store all day if I didn't think I'd kicked out for being a weirdo. It smells so good. Recommendation; plain ole Vanilla in a waffle cone.

I don't really care for ice cream, but my children do. However, this is good stuff. Very rich and just not your typical ice cream. It is a bit on the pricey side, but think about making all those flavors and the ingredients that go into icecream..SO WORTH IT =)

    (5)
  • Jen S.

Amazing ice cream! Soooo many flavors it was hard to choose. My favorite was cookies and cream. Everybody was super friendly too.
