Good old school fast food! Great atmosphere, and good music on the juke box. If you haven't tried the cherry milkshake you need to now! You will not find one like it anywhere else!

Winstead's is good, but not my favorite place in the world. I do like their burgers, so ocassionally stop by for one. I have had mixed experiences here... sometimes good, sometimes annoying. I use the drive thru. This time, everything was fine. They were fast and friendly. Sometimes they miss one or both of those qualities.

Well, golly-gee, I was kinda expecting to be joined by Richie....Potsy....or, in a real dreamstate, The Fonz himself! The vibe was 50's chic but not overplayed....just a good, down home town burger joint! This small chain has a basic menu of steakburgers and ice cream parlor treats plus a good few choices of the breakfast variety, all priced very reasonably. I had a single burger toppped with chili and cheese on THE BEST BUN I've had in a long time - it's so flufffffy! I don't usually eat wheat these days, but it was late and I had been driving many miles and I just wanted comfort food...the french fries helped round out the craving! I be-bopped right along the highway after this simply fine grind!

Didn't feel sanitary to me. Food was only so-so. Staff and service were amazing. Juke box is free! But it's hard to hear.

I had hope for a great burger and fries. What I got was shoe leather with decent fries. Don't feel this location is worth a second chance based on other reviews.

I like Winsteads and I have been eating their burgers since I was a child in the 60's. But this location should be condemned. The interior is worn out and the bathrooms are filthy. Is anyone paying attention at this business? I will never stop at this location again.

Not good. Burgers so thin. I wager even the double I had didnt weigh 3 oz, both of them together. Don't waste your money. Go to Grandstands, wish i had've!

I had an awful grilled chicken sandwich here for lunch recently. The service was friendly but that's the only upside as far as I'm concerned, the facility is tired. You can get much better food at Steak and Shake and a better atmosphere too if you're looking for this type of food.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I saw roaches and a rat on the corner while at the drive through. The guy on the intercom, said they were out of everything, then stated, "I'm just messin' with you man." If you like Winstead's DON'T GO HERE. They get your order incorrect. The food taste just a bit better than what I imagine tar would taste like if you were to eat it. Save your money and avoid this place. The health department needs todo an investigation here.

Stopped by to sample a burger and decided on a chili cheese dog with the 50/50 rings and tots. The food was hot and delicious! Since it was a cold day I had several cups of coffee, which was fresh and hot! The server, Samuel, was friendly, attentive and good answering questions about the menu! Will definitely visit again!

I love Winstead's. So it's about time I wake up and smell the coffee, because the proverbial coffee is actually terrible. I took my husband, an avid Steak 'n Shake fan, to this location when we were in town visiting family. I grew up visiting my grandparents in Kansas City every Summer, and therefore eating steakburgers at Winstead's and slurping up Skyscraper Sodas with my cousins. It's a nostalgic place but also historically a pleasurable experience in and of itself, as I'm a huge fan of their thin and crispy steakburgers, onion rings, and sodas. First of all the service was terrible with a capitol T. The server forgot our drinks and we had to wait until after our food was served to get them. She was never really around except when we heard her apologizing to other tables about her poor service. She even thanked one table for "not being douchebags" as they walked out, which sounded like they might have had every reason to be. It ended up being a comical experience after all was said and done. The food was okay. They were serving new tater tots, which were promised to "knock our socks and shoes off" but were overcooked, sad little things. We had ordered a Half and Half to share, so at least we had the onion rings. The burgers were good, except that somehow while eating mine a piece of cardboard ended up in my mouth. I thought it was a grilled onion (they do get extra points for offering grilled onion for free) but further inspection proved otherwise. My cherry limeade was the shining star of the whole experience, though I was halfway through my cardboard burger before it arrived. As we left, our server thanked us for our patience with her and her terrible service. I will be back again with hope in my heart and a hunger for steakburgers, as a dog returns to it's vomit.

This isn't that great of a Winsteads. I've been to others much better than this. We decided to bypass the long line at Ikea (poor choice), and stopped at Winsteads. The place was brutally full, with only 2 girls working the restaurant. We chose a booth and the girl finally came and waited on us. Once we got the food, I noticed my bun was cold, not just cold, but refrigerator cold. The fries, barely done. And that really grossed me out. The cherry limeade was absent a cherry, and had barely any lime sherbet in it.It wasn't stirred. Probably made by the over worked girls. They were so busy,I didn't send the cheeseburger back. Instead, I gave them a 1 star review vowing never to return. Seriously, this place needs to close. Bad all around. Won;t make this mistake again.

Winsteads is a 50s style diner that has been around Kansas City for 40 + years. I like their steakburgers a lot. You must order a double though, the single is too small. And order the fries and onion rings (50/50 combo). Their ice cream malts, shakes, sodas are authentic. However, after eating here I often have a stomach ache!

Best damn steak-burgers on the planet, and the shakes aren't bad either. They put Steak N' Shake to shame in nearly every category. It's a shame the location I visited wasn't particularly busy during lunch hour, but so it goes. If you're visiting KC, you must dine at Winstead's at least once.

I love old diners and places that have a rich history- it makes me feel like I'm part of that history. But, besides for my own self-inflation, Winstead's definitely lives up to the hype. They are a traditional diner-- no surprises here --that offers a fairly simple menu of burgers, onion rings, fries, malts, and milkshakes (I've never been for breakfast). The burgers aren't ginormous...if you are really hungry, I'd suggest getting the double as someone else said. But I just got a single and the 50-50 combo of rings and fries (amazing idea Winstead's btw). The 50-50 combo is perfect for those of us who can't decide between the two. I'm so glad Winstead's doesn't force me to make that choice! :) On our way out, I got a chocolate malt to go, and it was good, but not 'malty' enough for my taste. And, like one of the other Yelpers, I did get a stomache afterwards. However, I don't think it was because the food was bad, I think it was more because it was so greasy and I usually try to stay away from greasy/fast food most of the time, so my tummy wasn't used to it! BUT, I would definitely go there again!

Winsteads has an excellent steakburger for the price. I agree with the other posters that the burgers are not big--however, this shouldn't detract because the price of a double or triple is so cheap. I would recommend getting at least a double--my girlfriend has no problem polishing off a double with cheese. If I'm hungry, I can easily eat two doubles. As far as the menu goes, the offerings are very minimal. If you do not want a burger, you should probably go somewhere else. I believe they have a grilled chicken sandwich and grilled cheese but I have not tried these. Perhaps one of the greatest things about taking an out of town visitor to Winsteads is the novelty of the Skyscraper. The Skyscraper is a massive shake that is meant to be shared by a group of people. It comes out in what could be a large flower vase. The taste is ok but its size is unlike anything I have ever seen before. Frugal Total for Two: Double with Cheese and Lettuce $3.89 2 Doubles with Lettuce, Tomato, $3.70 each ~$12.00 after tax

I like Winsteads food especially the crispy chicken sandwich. The drive-thru service is slow but I know the food is being cooked to order so always fresh....and they have the best Vanilla Cokes!!

I am a Winsteads addict - it is by far my favorite fast food joint. Their steakburgers are yummy, but really thin, so ordering a double is similar to a Quarter Pounder. Also make sure to either try a limeade or the butterscotch shake - you won't be disappointed.
