High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. High Cholesterol at Applebee's

Well, steaks and ribs go hand in hand with cholesterol. Being their signature dish, it will be a challenge to find low-calorie, healthy food for those concerned with their cholesterol levels. However, you can always opt for their salads and other light foods to keep the cholesterol in check.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Cholesterol

If you have high cholesterol, then you must avoid eating sandwiches, wraps, and tacos at Applebee's. While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. It is also advised to dodge the Three Cheese Chicken Penne and Chicken Fajita Rollup. Any main meal with over 100mg cholesterol is not idle for someone with high cholesterol. So, skip those items at Applebee's.

So.. I grew up in the small village of Ottawa, KS. Back in the late nineties some big news came our way- We were going to get an Applebees. For a town with two Dairy Queens and not much else, this was huge. To this day, it still does good numbers and is packed most any night. It's fine-dining for Ottawa. I liked Applebees as an adolescent but my taste these days are a bit more discerning. I'm a grown-up now, I wear big-boy underwear. Applebees is about the most bland food you can ingest. There is not one thing on their menu that I can eat. I hear their salads have a sort of redeeming quality but I wouldn't know. Always packed, half-assed service. Over-priced drinks and bad food (if you can even call it that). This is one Kansas City original that I am not proud of. Plus, they completely stole their entire concept from Chappell's in North Kansas City. Now that is a place that serves great food and is truly orginial. Take the drive and go there!

The Applebee's that I have been to have been OK. Their baby back ribs are tender and pretty good but like most of their food, it's over priced. It won't keep me from ever going again but nonetheless for what you get, over priced.

We all know Applebee's is NOT a foodie mecca, so I'm not going to pretend that they offer grand gourmet dishes. It is what it is: a chain with bland, somewhat satisfying, generic meals. And while they don't offer specific vegetarian options, you can make anything meatless if you just ask. I like the Santa Fe Chicken salad sans chicken. It's pretty tasty and filling and a good lunch choice. The Florentine Ravioli is also pretty good if you ask them to leave the chicken off. For anyone who cares, they also have an Under 550 Calories menu as well as a Weight Watchers menu. I think it's pretty cool that they offer dishes that fit into different people's diets. If only they offered specific vegetarian dishes. I've never had anything but great service here. Whoever said they paid for refills was obviously drinking something other than water, tea, or fountain drinks. Because those are always, of course, freely refilled.

Ok so I've seen some not so good reviews here, but all in all...here's my story.... The very first time I went was a few years ago. It seemed as if I was hardly noticed. It was not a great experience, in fact I had called their main number and mentioned that unless something had changed, I would not go back. Fast forward a few years...in fact, the last two weeks. I can say that after that call, staff has been more friendly and attentive. The bingo nights are really fun as are having Stephanie as my waitress. Her blue eyes and her smile...sigh, but anyways the food. Despite that bad first time, thankfully I have never had a bad entree, appetizer, or dessert from them. Refills have been free. Most recently had the parmesan chicken--previously the double barrel whiskey steaks. Everything was hot and fresh--the appetizers and the desserts too (where appropriate!). Maybe some changes had been made, but I can say that between 6 PM and closing, things have been great for me here and that's why I go back. For a chain, their menu and pricing are value laden. Not just a meal, but fun!

Meh. It's Applebee's. I usually have spinach dip and a henny and coke while my daughter has a grilled chicken breast and broccoli. This was my daughter and I's go-to-sit-down-lunch-place for a while. The service here can be slow at times, but it's typically very friendly. And the good is as predictable as one would expect from the mostly trucked in and microwaved menu. My daughter enjoys coloring with daddy while we wait for her chicken. And somehow she always eats the broccoli here.

Food comes out frozen often, clearly a sign of bad management and pre-made nuked food. Didn't even offer a refund or even to remake the dish, just nuked it again.

We only go to this location for the best waitress on earth, Dawn. The other staff is just fine, we have no complaints. Their food is always good. The service time (for food) is always good. The restaurant is always clean. The atmosphere is always. Parking could be better but hey what can you do lol.

  • Kevin W.

Another disappointing experience. The staff is subpar and clueless about the menu and waiting tables. The restaurant has a worn out dirty feel to it. I was seated at a table that hadn't been properly cleaned and had to ask for the table to be wiped off. The food was ok...nothing special. I tried one of their new chicken sandwiches with house chips.

The most amazing service! Dawn's attention to detail and interaction no one compares! We always know we will be taken care of when we see Dawn coming our way!

Neighborhood frequent. Food is decent. Typical pub food. I've had up and down service but recently service is on the up and up. Eric brings a fun service character that entertains as well as top notch attention. Jumps behind the bar to pitch in. Never standing still. Always smiling and hustling. Stop in, ask for Eric. You won't be disappointed.

It was a late night after a big Royals win at The K and Applebee's is open later than most restaurants. We poppee in and sat at the bar. The bartender threw a long-winded drink specials pitch at us and absolutely nothing she just said was anywhere on the stack of regurgitated corporate menus fanned out in front of us. Fine, water and iced tea it is. A 5 minute wait for water and tea...no lemons...didn't even ask. We had to distract her from her never ending sidework once again and ask for lemons. We ordered our food. All but 2 of the appetizers are half price during late night, so the value is pretty good. It's mediocre corporate cookie cutter cardboard, but it beats the drive-thru. As far as the food goes, we got pretty much what we expected. Run in the mill food. We've had better, but we've had worse. The bartender on the other hand. Blah! It's a shame how many people out there call themselves bartenders who truly don't know what they're doing when it comes to their craft. I ordered the spiciest wings they offered. My drink went dry and stayed dry for 10 minutes if not better. She was too busy gabbing with some dude who was sitting at the corner of the bar. By the time she got around to filling my drink, we were ready for to go boxes. I clearly had a substantial amount of chips and queso blanco dip left to box up. She gives me this tiny rectangle to go box made for a half a sandwich. Why did she do this? Because it was all she had behind the bar and she was too lazy to go into the back and get me what I needed. She sees that my to go container won't fit the contents I was packing up. What does she do? Hands me another mini-sized box. I finally had to spell it out for her that I'd like the proper boxes. I went to the men's room while she went to get what I needed from the back. OMG! An explosive terrorist swooped in and bombed the men's room. Both stalls had been bl-ass-ted and left for dead. The smell and sight about made me hurl. That sealed the end of my visit to Applebee's this evening. I got the feeling that the staff here really doesn't care about their guest experience, or the cleanliness of their restaurant. I was prepared for mediocre food, but not for less than mediocre service, and not for the complete disregard for a clean atmosphere. The good value on the food is the only reason for 2 stars. This was a sure fire 1 star experience otherwise.

I got raw boneless chicken wings and I've been sick already once. I'm just glad I was able to stop my daughter and neice from eating any. We left because the raw chicken already was making me sick. Thanks Applebee's!

Nearly Everything that came out had something wrong with it. Our party of 4 didn't eat anything at the same time - we got the 2 for $20 meals that included an appetizer. Two meals came out cold and another the steak was undercooked. We told the waitress and the manager told us she would make it right (meaning the food and bill). We received 3 hot meals to replace the cold ones, but the meat was cold in the middle on one dish. Told our waitress and she made sure it was cooked right the 3rd time. Our waitress was really nice, but had only been there 2 weeks and had too many tables to wait on. In the end we didn't have to pay for dinner, but I wouldn't recommend going here.

This location is despicable. For my to-go order they put my American BLT sandwich in the same box as a pasta dish. The pasta was dripping in grease, and it didn't look the right color. The biggest thing that gets me is the lack of effort for whoever put my sandwich bread down into the pool of grease. It was soaking, not just wet when I got the food. The bread was truly very, very wet; like a sponge, you could wring it out. Then the manager gives me attitude when I ask for another sandwich. Then I go one more time after this, because they are close to my work, and I happen to get the same manager who gave me attitude. She said "I made sure they put them in separate containers for you". Are you kidding me, it's a special request to not have soaking bread? Needless to say, I won't be back.

Worst place I have ever been. So why did the waitress write down our order? Heck I think the kitchen ordered for me. I ordered a sirloin MEDIUM with a loaded baked potato. What I got after about an hour wait was a extremely well done peice of something and mashed potatoes. The place was not packed, when they finally brought our food they didn't even know who ordered what. Really? I didn't eat one bite and will never go back to any Applebees again. What a waste of my time.

I don't expect the world when I go to Applebee's. Just affordable decent food. The service was poor. Had to beg for it. Quesadillas burger was terrible. I asked for medium well, it was medium rare. The inside was soupy and greasy. Will not be going back to this one.

  • Mike M.

Christina Strait is the worst resturant manager I've ever met. My steak was undercooked & she disagreed with me when there was blood coming out of a medium steak. She proceeded to tell me how she liked her steak medium rare and it looked good to her. Flipping the attention to yourself is not in any Management Handbook. I normally don't take time to do surveys like this but the quality of service by the management was so poor that I thought it was my duty to speak up. Save your money & travel a few more blocks to Chili's. Much friendlier & better food.

Your hostess was extremely rude. I will say that out of a few Applebee's I go to this experience was truly disappointing. I doubt I'll ever come back here again. Nor send my family ir friends over to this location. I didnt get her name but she was a Girl with red hair thin about 5 ft 6 & Caucasian.

So, I know Applebees is not supposed to be a fine dining experience, however they tout that you can get a good quick lunch, so we I headed there with some coworkers to do just that! We all ordered off the "express menu" (after waiting 10 minutes to even be acknowledged). 15 minutes later or waiter reappeared to ask us our order again, as he could not read what he had written. Really? So clearly our order had not even be placed yet! We waited and waited, then after 45 minutes of no food (again, express menu??) we decided to leave. When I told the woman at the front that we were leaving after 45 minutes with no food, I got a shrug and an "OK." We left, hit a fast food restaurant where we had FAR better customer service! You know your in trouble when the 16 year old behind the fast food counter outshines your "waiter" There was nothing, good or quick about their (not) express menu. Everyone has a bad day, but there is no excuse to get a shrug and an "ok" when your customers are leaving without ever having been served!

I've worked in a few different restaurants and know the ups & downs inherent in the business, so I'm not one to rag on them. But having read the reviews here, I'm going to be more forthright. This place is terrible. Me, my pregnant wife, and two young sons (2.5, 1.5) showed up at around 5:45 tonight (Monday), gift card in hand for $.99 kids night. We had gotten the gift card for Christmas and were excited for a night out - something of a rarity for our family. There wasn't hardly anyone in there yet, but it was still early. We were welcomed by two stone-faced hostesses, one of which was kindly holding the door for us. One of them grabbed a couple kids menus and seated us two booths from the door. No biggie. Doug showed up quickly, but wasn't in a rush. He would be the highlight of the evening. He took our drink orders & came back relatively quickly. After obliging our request for another minute to decide, Doug took our meal order: the chicken broccoli alfredo, cowboy burger, a kids grilled cheese, and a kids mac & cheese. And we waited. And waited. And... ...waited. Doug came over after 20 minutes or so to say the kitchen was just really slow. O rly? I kid you not, there were *maybe* four other tables, and a couple in the bar. So we waited some more. Another 10 minutes. I should have known better by now, but the food. was. terrible. My alfredo sauce was chunky and tasteless, probably a day old and reheated. My broccoli wasn't the lest bit tender except for the tips. The chicken was actually pretty good and the noodles were fine. My wife's well-done burger was warm at best. The white cheddar cheese was shredded - not sliced (seriously.) - and the bbq sauce wasn't even noticeable. The kids' grilled cheese was almost cold, like they toasted the bread and then put the cheese in the middle; the taste didn't make up for it (and I rather like cold grilled cheese). Their Kraft mac & cheese (the same kind you make at home) was ok, but odd that they'd put it on the menu. in summary, whatever you do, don't go here.

It's Applebee's, OK? Not exactly a leader in innovative cuisine. We like to go in for the half-prices apps late at night though. And this location has music bingo on Sunday nights, which is just darn fun.

If you find yourself craving frozen food from a chain restaurant, this location is a pretty good choice. The service has always been good here and they run the microwave long enough that everything is warm and well-cooked. I think this is one of the older Applebee's, so it shows its age a little, but it is always clean.

  • Patrick C.

Very disappointing experience today. Ordered at 12:05 and at 12:45 still no food. Three of us had ordered of the "lunch" menu, soup and salad and a sandwich. On the way out let the hostes know we never received our food and she was like "ok".. Needless to say we all won't be returning

Well, this is going to be an interesting review. I am not an Applebee's fan per say. However, I have been there more frequently because it has been convenient and holds larger groups. I cannot deny that their 2 for $20 deal is pretty good. Plus, you get an appetizer with it. The last two times I have been here I ordered the same meal and the first time it was great, the 2nd time it was undercooked and nasty. What I didn't like was the staff and their treatment which is where the 3 stars come in. A group of friends came in late one night and wanted to order the 1/2 price appetizers. We did not sit in the bar area because we were a larger group. The waitress made it a point to tell us that they were "allowing" us to have the 1/2 appetizers even though we were not sitting in the bar area (as if she was doing us a huge favor). Well, then she said that we could not order water and get the 1/2 price appetizer, but we had to order a drink. We didn't argue with her, but I looked at the menu and nowhere on the menu does it say that we have to order a drink. The manager came by and I asked him what he thought about that, and he said he wasn't sure. We looked together and he didn't see it either. He was cool about it and said that next time it would not be a problem. So overall, I was not too happy about the water thing, but the fact that the manager was cool about it made me feel like he cared. I don't mind coming here, but it would not be my first choice.
