When it comes to BBQ, KC has an embarrassment of riches. Despite all odds, Roscoe's measures up to the best of the best. (+) Location - This little new kid on the BBQ scene is tucked away behind a gas station. If you find this offensive, I don't think we'd get along. (+) Libations - Coors original anyone? Not my favorite, but it feels right for Roscoe's. (+) Ribs - Simply triumphant. Somehow they explode with smoky flavor, and linger with subtle spice. Tasty before you even sauce them, and magical after. Unparalleled tenderness and moisture retention. (+) Pulled Pork - More of the same greatness. A bit saltier than the ribs (as it should be with pig), but carrying the same mix of smoke and spice. Fortunately, the pork flavor is not overwhelmed here. I was snacking on pork bits like potato chips. (+) Sauce - Classic KC style sauce with a bit more complexity than most. Being a devotee of AB's sauces, I wouldn't call Roscoe's the best sauce in town. Nevertheless, the hot sauce behind the desk is more than competent. (+) Slaw - The coleslaw is stone cold great. They add minced pickles and some spicing nuances to tweak a classic. It really worked well with bites of pulled pork. (+) Onion Rings - Solid. Standard fare, but very crispy. I like to shovel them in their hot sauce and some blue cheese dressing. (-) White Bread - Who eats the bread anyway? THE BOTTOM LINE: (+) Whatever your favorite BBQ joint is, Roscoe's might just usurp it.

Food is as good as the best in the entire area. Been there several times, food is consistent and delicious. Worth the drive for great BBQ. Much better than Bryants, by a 1000 points.

I was really looking forward to this place as a fellow yelper recommended it. It was decent but not quite as good as I had hoped. We went on a Saturday about noon and maybe that was a lil early for top notch BBQ. The burnt ends were not very burnt. They had no bark and seemed to just be the entire brisket chopped up. They were a lil dry but did have good smoke. The ribs were tasty. Onion rings were pretty average. The cheesy corn and Cole slaw were a weak point but I did enjoy the beans. It was a clean roadside place which I really enjoyed. I would like to try it again and would recommend it to locals but probably would not send the out of towners as there are other places that I would want to wow them.

Right up there with Oklahoma Joes. Ribs were tender and meaty. Pork tender was fantastic. Very generous with their portions. Impressive side dishes. We drove from Topeka just to dine here and we will return. Reasonably priced.

Never heard of a restaurant that forces you to order carry out an hour and fifteen minutes before they close. I live 30 minutes away so ended up walking out with no food with probably no intention of revisiting.

Roscoe's is about as good as it gets outside the realm of competition BBQ. Everyone knows of the Big three (Oklahoma Joes, Arthur Bryant's, Gates) and those other folks who follow closely behind (Jack Stack, LC's, Smokin Guns). Roscoe's is a new name, in a less than prime location. That doesn't detract from the food whatsoever however. Admittedly, I don't necessarily think roscoe's is for everyone. I believe a fellow yelper described roscoe's as artisan bbq. I think that is a proper description. It's not that roscoe's does off the wall things like RJ's BBQ shack for example. They do however do things a little bit differently and with a little more pride than most. I can't pinpoint what it is they do differently however. It is my personal opinion that the type of wood and rub they use is a little bit different than most. Roscoe's has it's own flavor, and there is a lot of it. This is a good thing. However, if you don't jive with they flavors they present you, you won't like the food. Roscoe's is making a statement. Part of that statement is not hiding their bark. Boy do they have bark. Boy is that bark delicious. Boys and girls, they are unashamed to give you bark on their burnt ends. In fact, if you come here, you better be getting beef and or some burnt ends. I'm not a big beef fan (I prefer my bbq pork heavy) but roscoe's has made me a believer. I was going to give roscoe's four stars. But then I thought about their beef, and their burnt ends. Everything else on roscoe's menu is four star fare, which is very good for here in Kansas City. You have to work very hard to get into the four star category. But their beef, with its copious amounts of flavor and bark is in it's own league. You have heard about Oklahoma Joe's burnt ends. You guys need to hear about Roscoe's. So make the drive to Roscoe's. Get some of their beef. Ask for some of their hot bbq sauce which they keep under the counter. The only thing Roscoe's could stand to do better is their consistency. I've had some days where things are a little dry. This however is not the norm. Don't take my word for it. Go try it. Take a bite and smile. Then, take a few friends with you. Tell them to come back with some of their friends. This place deserves to be known. It deserves to be named with the big names. If they keep doing things the way they have been, it's only a matter of time.

Continuing on my search for the best Q in the KC area, I had the opportunity to check out Roscoe's. This a bit out of the way place was a diamond in the rough. Very clean inside and the food did not disappoint. Trying my preferred fare of burnt ends and ribs with beans and slaw, Roscoe's would be a place I would return to, if in the Edwardsville area. The meats were served without sauce (preferred). The burnt ends were very good. Each piece had a touch of juice and moisture left as oppossed to being cooked dry. The ribs were a tad overcooked, but the flavor was very good. The beans were above average with a touch a spice, but the coleslaw was just average. Overall stars: **** Burnt Ends **** Ribs **** Beans *** Coleslaw.

Growing up in Tulsa, I was deprived of good barbeque as a child. No, seriously, we rarely had barbeque and my first real experience was with a Carolina-style joint when I was stationed in Norfolk, VA. Roscoe's is like jumping from junior high straight to the Doctoral Program at MIT. For a small, hole-in-the-wall joint they have AMAZING food! We were in town for the NASCAR race and found them on Yelp (something the folks at Roscoe's proudly show on their front door). We ordered the 'Family Platter #2' with ribs, sliced turkey (they were out of chicken) and pulled pork to go (thus I can't comment on eating in - but the family that runs it had a son doing a great job keeping the dining room clean while mom took orders). The food was AMAZING, perfectly smoked with the best homemade sauce I've ever had. Full disclosure, it reminded me of 'Rufus Teague' which is a gourmet sauce, but had several marked differences. Since I'm such a Rufus fan, it probably the reason I liked it so much. The slaw was very good, and the baked beans were heavenly especially with the bits of burnt ends in it. Since it is the only KC barbeque joint I've eaten at, I can't rate it compared to others. However, if it is the stick that all other joints are measured against, the bar is set pretty bleedin' high!

Lots of pride delivered in the excellent food. Great place to eat!!!! The workers can be a little short and not overly friendly, but I've found that to be typical for bbq places.

Best barbecue I've had in a long time. I highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area.

Best BBQ ever. Large portions, family owned and very friendly. Fed 6 of our family members for a very good price. Ribs, brisket, and chicken - tender and taste great. Cheesy corn, fry's are very good. Baked beans are heavenly. Roscoes BBQ sauce is very good. We made a good decision to make this our BBQ stop as we traveled from Louisiana to find good BBQ in KansasCity. 8 miles from Schillterbahn. If you in the area, you will be pleased with what you find here, I did.

Heard all the hype about this little hole in the wall BBQ place so decided to try it. As soon as you step outside of your car you can smell the BBQ aroma....The enterior is nice and clean and the staff is very nice. I went with my mother and father so we decided to order ribs, turkey, fries, coleslaw, cheese corn, and the BBQ beans. Ribs - Are very tender and meaty. You can taste the smoke immediately and hardly any fat. They cook them with no sauce so if you want sauce you can dip. The BBQ sauce taste like there is hickory. I thought it was really good. Turkey - Was very tendor. I dont like chewy turkey so this was perfect. Thought you could taste the smoke in the turkey without it being overwhelming. Fries - I thought they were ok. A tad over cooked but ok. Coleslaw - Instead of being chunkee they seem to blend it to make it almost like a spread. It had a pretty good taste. Cheese Corn - I have had this at Broebacks in Lenexa and although good here if I compare it it was not as good. BBQ Beans - I think if they added some smokey bits of rib meat or brisket it would make these beans amazing. Jackstack BBQ has the best bean vote from me and these would be a good 8. Overall with the great service, a clean place to eat, and good food I will come back anytime in the area.

Well helloooooooo smoke! At the advice of a fellow Yelper I went to this place for a business lunch and came away smelling like a campfire and belching smoke like an old locomotive. : ) The non-advertised, spartan, next-to-a-gas-station, KCK-but-should-be-Edwardsville location was right up my alley. Give me some meat, s'il vous plait. The trinity, for me... burnt ends, brisket, and my beloved pork ribs. BTW, this is artisanal, limited production Q. Don't go here set on one thing. They may be out of it. That is a good thing in my book. The trinity came and worship began without delay. I ate like a factory machine. Like a farm plow. The ends were the best I have had so far in KC. Fresh carved. Lean in most cases. Actually burnt. Seasoned. Smoky. And tender. Damn... they are better than mine!!! Then the brisket. Again the best taste so far for me in KC. Tender. Smoky. And completely absent of fat. All meat baby! And both beef products retained the essence of the meat. Beautiful. The ribs might be better than Smokin' Guns, my favorite... until today. As a last rights meal choice, I am stickin' to the St Louis cut masterpiece called ribs that are served up here. Firm. Yet yielding and tender. Not too fatty. Smoky. Seasoned just right. Sides of cheesy corn and beans were good, but casual observers to my meat eating prowess. The beans will please those who like smoke and molasses. Sauce is a good balance of sweet and sour... but the translucent nature of it said sugar sugar sugar in my mouth. I like spicy sauce if I even use any. You don't need sauce here. Trust me. Brownie points for paper towels, and soda choices that include Diet Dr Pepper [I am utterly addicted].

I am used to sauced ribs, Roscoe's are dry and I loved them. The ribs are so tender and have a great flavor! I always judge barbecue joints by their beans and Roscoe's is one of my favorites. The fries were abundant and perfectly crispy. The slaw was really good, I just like it a little sweeter. Can't wait to go again!

When you live in Kansas City you don't usually go to the big name BBQ joints unless you are entertaining people from outside KC. Instead you go to places like Roscoe's because the food is better, cheaper, and you don;t have to deal with tourists. Roscoe's BBQ is one of my favorites in KC and has my favorite burnt ends by far. The sides are alright; standard fries and onion rings, but their beans are fantastic. Cons for the place: lack of seating, parking lot is small and if your car rides low you can bottom out when entering/exiting the lot, and it's normal for them to run out of burnt ends on Fridays.

  • Ced L.

I went back to try Roscoe's...and today they were on their A game...I had burnt ends and their special sausage on white bread. ...the food was phenomenal! Sausage was 10...Burnt ends 9.25...I ate all the food without sauce...if you haven't stopped by here I want you to slap yourself...you are missing out... A special shout and thank you to the cashier who paid for my lunch because I was a service member...it is my honor to serve and you are too kind!

  • Matt K.

Best ribs in Kansas City, bar-none. But, you either better call early, and not wait until late in the day. That was the mistake I made last time I was in, and was greeted by a "ribs sold out" sign on the counter when it was time to place my order. Still, I went with a pound of pulled pork, and while it didn't satisfy my desire for pigcicles, it was still quite good. Totally worth the drive out to Edwardsville. A real hidden gem among KC's bbq scene.

Great little BBQ joint off the beaten path. The brisket, burnt ends, turkey, and pork were sampled and all tasted great. Worth the drive from KC.

Not sure where my last review disappeared to - maybe it's a conspiracy? Whatever the case, UFO, Area 51...I'm still pleased to say Roscoe's still has the best tasting burnt ends I have ever put in my mouth and chewed with my teeth! We are talking moist, succulent and smoked to perfection. I think there was about an inch of "bark". Think with me...a crunchy outside and a moist inner meaty flavour. Kudos to you! Don't overlook this place. You'll be sorry you did. Sincerely, should have gotten take out!

  • Gavin G.

Roscoe's is in my top three for traditional KC Barbecue. Everyone has preferences, and for me Roscoe's has the best burnt ends by far. They come out perfect and need nothing but a fork. Their backed beans are the 2nd best in the city and ribs are right near the top as well. BBQ sauce is a huge preference issue, but Roscoe's has a very unique sauce. It's darker and richer tasting than other places in town with what I think is a heavier molasses flavor. I never eat it, because my food at Roscoe's never needs it. It's almost always perfect as is. Picking my favorite BBQ in KC is like picking a favorite child; it really depends on the day and how I'm feeling. Roscoe's is definitely in the mix, but has that "forgotten middle child" vibe. It'll probably never have the big name recognition, but it's amazing stuff. The only thing to worry about is the AC vents in the floor. Depending on what you're wearing, you could get an unexpected, and intimate, draft.

Roscoes BBQ is a real treat. They rank right near the top of BBQ in Kansas City and the burnt ends are certainly in the top 3 if not #1. I love the beans too. I've tried beans at just about every BBQ place i go an so far none are as good as theirs. The area they are lacking in would be the fries and onion rings. Pretty ho hum at best but i can live with that for good tasting BBQ which i get every time. Oh, and grab some ribs too, you'll thank me later.

I'm a HUGE fan of Oklahoma Joes, but this place ranks right up there with them. I'm very pleased with the small town BBQ joint that's in my hometown! The ribs are delicious! The meat falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. Great flavor to them as well. My husband says "they need no sauce" as he grubs down. The baked beans have a great smoky flavor with pieces of burnt ends in them. And the NEW menu item "Pork Pie" has my #1 vote hands down. None of the other BBQ joints in KC including Oklahoma Joes serves anything like it. Its Frito chips, baked beans, pulled pork topped with coleslaw...you get a little bit of everything for a decent price!! Its a small business but does have booths and some tables. Not a good choice if you have a big group, unless you don't mind possibly not sitting with each other. Staff is friendly, restroom is clean and the food is awesome!! A family of 3 ate for $25!

So I'm breaking one of my rules. Generally I won't write a review about a place after one visit. Roscoe's has inspired me to be a rebel. First let me say that I must have a love for BBQ joints that are close to or inside of gas stations. Secretly I became excited as I got closer and saw that it shared a sign with the gas station. I can't explain it. I'm a weirdo. Anyhoo, it's a little quaint place, no frills, just how BBQ should be. Today's special was a jalapeño smoked sausage. It was pretty tasty. They also have a cheesy corn that was really good. For me, the star was the burnt ends. Oh how I long to have great burnt ends. So often I order burnt ends and they aren't burnt ends. They are just little cubes of meat that are masquerading as burnt ends. Then I am disappointed and then comes anger. Not here though, they were delicious. My mom even exclaimed that she clearly had been missing out on eating them as she proceeded to eat all of mine. The portions are generous, the staff was friendly and it was surprisingly fast. I am already looking forward to going back and sampling more.

4.5 stars (oh so close to 5!) I decided to make one last BBQ run before I left the KC area for good, and I'm glad that Roscoe's was one of the last BBQ joints I dined at. Roscoe's has the second best pork ribs in KC (second, in my opinion, after Oklahoma Joe's) - which is saying something in this city. They're not quite as smokey or seasoned as well as OKJ, but they're incredibly tender and fall-off-the-bone.They are also very reasonably priced in comparison ($9/half slab, $16/full). And their burnt ends? Probably my favorite to date in KC; filled with smoke and just the right amount of fat and bark remaining to make each bite a lusciously satisfying experience. The only down side is that I don't care for their sauce much (it's not offensive but very standard and sweet), but that's easy to forget as you chew through that beefy goodness... Don't be intimidated by the isolated gas station location. The place is rather clean inside and the staff are really friendly. The one thing I learned in KC was that no one BBQ joint can do everything right. Roscoe's has burnt ends and pork ribs in their back pocket, which is no easy feat for KC BBQ. Thanks for the delicious sendoff, Roscoe's!

Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. Small place - about 35 seats, but while there it looked like they do a fair amount of carry-out as well. As one reviewer mentioned, from the outside it makes you raise an eyebrow a little - not terrible - but once inside it is super clean and spotless. But the food is what it's all about and it was a great combination of very good bbq and very reasonable prices. Ribs were meaty and moist and brisket was top-notch. Beans were very good, a touch sweet, and loaded with bits of meat. The fries were crisp and HOT, as were the onion rings. I wish I could comment more on the sauce, but the ribs and brisket didn't need it. I think they sauced the ribs slightly before serving, but again, the meat was so well done it didn't need it. Very slight smoke taste, not overwhelming like some places...great balance. I like to make the rounds to local barbecue joints and will be back to this one to try some more items! Highly recommended and easy to get to...close to the Legends (just south) and right off of I-435.

Great place! Cheap food! Generous portions! Not wild about the BBQ sauce but the meat more than makes up for that. Doesn't really need sauce it's that good!

Wow. Absolutely delicious! I decided to take a chance on Roscoe's based upon the positive yelp reviews, and boy am I glad I did! I arrived at Roscoe's on a Friday night at around 6:20. (Note, there was a sign on the counter noting that the dining room closed at 6:40...heads up) In order to sample as much of the menu as possible, I ordered the two item dinner plate (added ribs for $3). I chose the cheesy corn and beans as my two sides. All of this, and a fountain drink came to right around $16.50. The ribs were phenomenal...fall off the bone moist, and delicious smoke flavor. The pulled pork and brisket were amazing as well. It was definitely a lot of food. The sides were incredible. I wish I would have gotten TWO sides of the cheesy corn, it really is that good. The beans were tasty...nice and sweet. You won't regret eating here.

Visiting from San Francisco and a coworker suggested this gas station spot. This family owned BBQ joint has incredible service and fall off the bones pork ribs. The cheesy corn was so creamy and delicious with chunks of ham. Their son even gave us a ride back to our hotel bc it was difficult to get a taxi. Wish I had time to come back and try more meat!

I truck in the area and always eat here every opportunity I get. Never a disappointment. The coleslaw is the best I've ever had! I time my meals at non-peak times as it's very busy then. Not one negative thing I've ever encountered here!

Food is great! I had a ham sandwich and a side of fries. Fries were frozen. But the sandwich made up for it. Meat is delicious. A generous portion. I will be back.

Family owned best bbq around! !!!! It's a little hole in the wall place but best bbq by far. This place is better than all the big name's like gates, Arthur Bryant. This is a must see place.

Man I miss this place... I came out on a business trip to Legend's Outlet and being from San Diego had to try some legitimate Kansas City BBQ. I used Yelp to find the closest and highest rated to my hotel and decided upon Roscoes due to the 5 star reviews, no matter how few. I am beyond glad that I did because it was phenomenal, the pulled pork was perfect and I tried burnt ends for the first time and was blown away. Roscoes BBQ Sauce was perfectly smokey and if I ever go back to KC this will be my go to spot. I loved it so much I went in the day after with 3 KC locals that I was working with and they all said it was comparable to their favorite BBQ spots throughout the city - one even said Roscoes had the best ribs hes ever had. It would be sad to see this place have hour wait times but it would be well deserved, keep doing what you do best Roscoe!

  • Julie R.

My husband knows his BBQ and he loved Roscoe's. Their burnt ends were awesome. Not a big fan of the coleslaw, because I like a sweet coleslaw. The amount of food you receive is excellent. Taste is great. We will be going back.

KC's best kept secret. No wait or hype like Joe's, but better taste, in my opinion. Attached to a gas station, so you know it's legit! Bring friends and family to share their big family platters and enjoy!

I came to Kansas City for a quick work trip and luckily had a little time to explore what this city has to offer. I spent my time away from work at Roscoe's and ONLY Roscoe's. The food was by far the best BBQ I have ever had, the sides were delicious and the beers were cold. The chef, which we found out was also the owner had just cut fresh ribs and let us know, and the young lady taking our order suggested the best sides for us to try. We over ate, and were over satisfied not with just our meal but with the entire experience. We ran out of free time, but we felt we experienced the best KC had to offer. Roscoe's service , atmosphere and, of course, the food are beyond 5 stars and I will gladly suggest this place to anyone!

Here's the great thing about Kansas City BBQ. Just about the time you think you've found your all-time favorite, some little joint comes along and takes a meat cleaver to your opinion. Roscoe's delivered up a plate of ribs today equal to, or dare I say better than Oklahoma Joe's or any other world class KC smokehouse, with sides of beans and cheese corn that were marvelous. A friend had a BBQ beef sandwich and fries. The fries are very good, but not in OJ's league (easily the best BBQ fries in the area). White bread? Why yes, as it should be, thank you. Getting the rib meat to stick to the bone so you can pick it up and gnaw off the meat yet it's tender, juicy and moist is the goal. Falling off tender, but not falling off the bone--that's the mark of a great plate of ribs. I dare say I've seen very few do any better, and my friend and I hit a new place every two weeks year around on the average. Roscoe's deserves a spot among the heavy hitters in Kansas City BBQ in my opinion, yet it's located on the outskirts of tiny Edwardsville west of Kansas City, Kansas. The meat is (as it should be) smokey, tender, juicy, not overly salted which so many do, and very flavorful. Their sauce is a bit runny, heavy on the sweet and smokey side. Just a little will do. Their beans are light years better than Joe's but not on par with other excellent providers like Rosedale. You know you've hit a great plate of ribs when you find yourself chewing on the soft end to get more good taste. Those ribs. I'll be thinking about those late tonight. I had my last meal around noon today and I'll sleep peacefully tonight. Must return. If you're wanting to avoid the line at Oklahome Joe's and the hype of some other familiar names, Roscoe's is definitely worth the trip out of town for a spectacular BBQ meal.

We were headed to a Sporting KC game and decided to continue our tradition of BBQ before a soccer game. We checked out Papa Bob's last time (just down the road), so Roscoe's was up this time. We arrived a little before dinner time, and the small place was about half-full. As soon as we ordered food, the place started to get busy and we got one of the last tables. I ordered a rib dinner with fries and cheesy corn and my girlfriend got a ham sandwich - with a drink our total was almost exactly $20. Positives: -Very tasty ribs! -A small, family run restaurant -Great prices, usually we spend more on a BBQ meal for 2 Negatives: -Fairly small and standard BBQ menu. -Off the beaten path a bit Roscoe's might not be the best of KC BBQ offerings, but it's a decent place with great prices and fills a big BBQ void on the west side of the metro. It's yet another place to check out if you want to avoid the madness at the Legends.

So this place looks a little sketch from the outside - off the beaten path next to a gas station - but completely worth going inside anyway! On a recent trip through the area, Hubs and I wanted to find good barbecue near our hotel. This place came up on Yelp and we were very glad. The barbecue was great, but the best thing we ate was the Cheesy Corn! It sounds a bit weird, but believe me, you will want the recipe (I should have asked while we were there). It is like creamed corn with heaping amounts of cheese melted in - AMAZING!!!

I had some time before my flight out so I decided to give Roscoe's a try, and am glad I did. I arrived at 11:30 on a week day and it was about 1/4 full. Parking was tricky but I managed. The place was filling up by the time I left about noon. I came for a pulled pork sandwich and a pulled pork sandwich is what I ordered. I asked the waitress how big the sandwich was and she said the regular was 8 oz. I didn't need a half pound of meat so I ordered the half sandwich. I wanted the half pound of meat but I listened to my doctor and went with the half sandwich. I picked the cheesy corn as my side. Ten dollars with tip for the meal is pretty average. I had to pay the tip in cash since their credit card slip didn't give me a place to enter a tip. The sandwich was made with plain white bread. The half sandwich had to be 4 inches tall. I had to thin it down with a fork before I could shove it in my face. It had the perfect amount sauce plus they brought a bottle on the side. I added a bit more but it didn't need it. A half sandwich is a good serving size although I am sure I could have managed a full. The pulled pork was cooked to perfection. Moist without being mushy. Smokey without the smoke overpowering the meat. Chunky without being too chunky. These folk know how to cook their pork. The sauce complimented the pork instead of overpowering it. The cheesy corn was tasty too. My only complaint was the temperature of the food. It wasn't hot. I think it should be served at 165 but what I got was barely warm. The last thing I needed was questionable food right before getting on a long airplane flight. The food is a solid 4 but I almost dropped a star for the low temperature. But, the taste won out in the end. The staff were friendly and the place was clean. Most of the places we eat when we are sent to KC are in walking distance of our hotel but Roscoe's is worth the drive if it fits your schedule.

Roscoes bbq is on Oklahoma Joes level, without the lines. Trust me, I love good bbq, and have been to all in KC. Roscoes is the real deal people. The brisket is my favorite, the fries are next to perfect, the ribs are amazing, don't get me started on their burnt ends! Go there people. I have a feeling that the lines will be out the door sooner rather than later. Go!

BEST ribs and cole slaw I've ever had! I'm visiting here from San Francisco and HAD to get some authentic Kansas City BBQ. I found this place on Yelp based on all the positive reviews and sure happy I did! The restaurant is run by the sweetest, down to earth, family. So nice in fact, when we had trouble getting a cab back to our hotel they went out of their way and offered to let their son drive us back; which we happily accepted. Best BBQ paired with the nicest people, doesn't get better than that! :) Also had the cheesy corn and beans as a side, AMAZING, you can't go wrong here!!

Two things that make this my favorite Barbecue restaurant in the Kansas City area. 1. The food. The food here is great and the staff is always friendly, even when the place is packed. 2. The story. I have heard that the owner was in a different line of work but always wanted to do BBQ. He either got laid off or quit and started this place. I like to hear about people who follow their dream.

Good food a little pricey. Kind of disappointed in the combo options. All in all though food was good and within reasonable price range though it's on the high end of the scale. Service was fast and friendly. Advice to roscoes add a lunchtime combo menu.

This place was amazing!! Get their pulled pork. It was so tasty! They have their version of a mac-n-cheese that is make you buy more. Over all great food, service and smell.

This review is horribly late.....without hesitation I can honestly say that I have at least 75 - 100 visits to this fine establishment. Roscoe's BBQ is a must stop for anyone looking for great BBQ. Seriously......drive past most of the other BBQ joints listed in everyone's "Kansas City Top BBQ" list and head to Edwardsville to check this place out. Not only do they serve up great BBQ they also do it at a great $$ value. Make sure you map it out cause it can be easy to miss and you will surely be disappointed if you do. This is a great family run place that goes toe to toe with all the greats in Kansas City. Roscoe, Mariann and the rest of their clan work hard to make this my favorite BBQ ever. Take note, you have to get there early, they close at 7 pm. My go to sandwich is Brisket on a bun........absolutely my pick for best brisket in KC. Always smoked to perfection and sliced just the way I like it. The portion is plentiful and tender, I always leave satisfied. Their crinkle cut fries are always my choice for the side. Cooked to the perfect amount of crunchiness. The pulled pork is also outstanding and most recently I have adjusted my nearly never wavering choice of brisket and now ask for the combo sandwich to include both choices. I tend to think most restaurants serve it too bland and expect to make up the difference with sauce.....not here. It's full of flavor, always juicy and never dry. They offer it with coleslaw, beans and Frito's and call it "Pork Pie". This is my wife's choice when we go. On the rare occasion, I do pass up the sandwich and go for the Ribs. St. Louis cut and awesome are how they serve them. Always pull off the bone tender and always rich in flavor. They have the perfect amount of "zing" in the rub and are perfect served dry. No sauce needed. Don't ask me how they do it, but they also have some of the best Coke to come out of a fountain I've ever had. Seriously, it must be the most consistently mixed Coke in town. I've been bringing my son Josh since he was a newborn (he's now 4 1/2), they are so great with him, even when he's in his cranky moods. Josh always insists on going to the counter to say "Hi" to Roscoe and to say "Thank you" before we leave. I hate to sound like like an overzealous fan-boy, but I sing praises about Roscoe's' to everyone that I can. By doing that, I'm shooting myself in the foot cause the place isn't real big and can get pretty crowded. They truly deserve to be listed among the greats in KC. I know that everyone and their brother maintains a BBQ Ranking list and Roscoe's is at the top of mine. (just in case you're curious, love it or hate it here's mine.....) 1. Roscoe's 2. Danny Edwards / Joe's KC BBQ (it's a tie) 3. Q39 (notice.....no mention of the Kansas City Trinity of overrated BBQ, you know who they are)

3.5 stars. I had high hopes for the pork ribs here, so maybe that's why I was disappointed. In my opinion, Roscoe's pork ribs are far better than AB's, but not as good as OKJ's. They are tender and fall-off-the-bone, but there is no bark and the mouthfeel wasn't right - I felt like the ribs were too wet. That said, the prices were very reasonable - cheaper than the other more famous places.

This place is the hidden BBQ jewel in Kansas City. Since my first review, Roscoes has gotten better and more consistent. Their best kept secret is the burnt ends which I believe are now the best in KC, bar none. They are as tender and juicy as Joe's KC, and have as much flavorful bark as LC's. The ribs are as good as ever, and the sliced brisket will not disappoint. Roscoes is worth the trip.

Truly top notch. Everything was great. I picked up the chicken, rib and meat platter plus some burnt ends and I can definitely say this will be a regular trip. Sauce is fantastic and good people running it. It's a little hole in the wall (best places for BBQ) and frankly, when it comes to good BBQ, it's in my top 2. Skip the Legends crowd and give it a try.

On a cross country drive, one of the great joys is experiencing the best of what each region is known for. After reading a few reviews on yelp while heading toward KC on I-70, I made the decision to divert here to experience KC barbeque. Roscoe's exceeded all my expectations, with amazing food (the dinner special of pork, burnt ends and ribs were to die for - and the beans are better than anything I've ever had then or since), great people, and a surprisingly nice dining room to relax in. The few minute trip off the highway is totally worth it, and its (for me) the best place to get it off of I-70. Next time heading near KC, I'm bringing a cooler with me to stock up. PLEASE start making your food available for shipment, since I want to bring the best of KC back to Virginia at Super Bowl time!

This place is the bomb!!!! Came in from Denver, hit Oklahoma Joes on day one. A buddy I work with brought me to Roscoes on day three and all I can say is OUTSTANDING!!!

Tried it based on yelp reviews. Really good food - try the "pork pie". I live in Shawnee and this is the best BBQ in the area. Simple and scrumptious.

Found this on Yelp when looking for good BBQ while at Great Wolf Lodge with the family. Little bitty hole in the wall with fabulous smoked BBQ. Nice local restaurant, friendly service and yum yum yummy! The sides are almost as good as the BBQ, we had the cheesy corn and beans.

Looking for a quiet place to grab lunch, we found Roscoe's Barbeque and went for a try. Roscoe's is one of those places that make you comfortable when you get there. The staff was friendly and helped immediately. The menu isn't big, but the food was really good. From the highway, it doesn't look like much and you have to watch for the sign, but it's worth it. It's not a big place, but it's clean and well lite, the food was served up quickly, and the portions were good. Made a great lunch. Thanks!

I tried Roscoe's yesterday cause I have heard it was a good BBQ joint and I am always looking for good BBQ. We walked in and went to order at the counter. I was surprised to see they dont offer any sausage and the menu was a bit small but I guess they get to the point with it. We got the #2 dinner of beef and turkey. It comes with two sides and we got fries and onion rings. We sat down and while we waited for our food I noticed the BBQ sauce is in a big bottle on the front counter. I am not sure why they dont have bottles on the table so you dont have to mess with cups of sauce? The lady brought our food and we dug in. The beef was amazing and had a great taste to it and you did not even need the sauce. The turkey was good and very tender. I found the BBQ sauce to be different than most places in KC. It was good but not great if I saw there sauce in the store I would not buy it. I thought the onion rings were crispy and very good but I found the fries to be a let down. I dont understand why you would use store bought fries when you could make your own? So to wrap it up I would go back and will go back but would just like to see them change a few things but a good meal.

Roscoe's BBQ is a tiny bbq place in Edwardsville. There are about 10 tables inside, so its not set up to handle a lot of people. However, they seem to handle it okay. Wait for my group was about 10 minutes after ordering. The menu they have is quite small, but at least they're doing it right. Ordered the dinner for two to split. The only caveat is the amount of meat was quite small. Had the burnt ends and pulled pork, all of which could fit into a sandwich. There were a lot of fries though at least. In all, there was enough for one person with a large appetite or two people with small appetites. Can't complain about how it was cooked. The meats were cooked well. Looks like if I come back here, better off ordering the meats by the pound instead of the dinner for two. It costs a little more, but looks like you get a lot more. Easily enough for 2 or more people.

Thanks to Reed N for pointing out this hidden gem. His review sent me for a visit. Located on K-32(Kaw drive) just west of 435, you might not even know its an eating establishment. Take my advice and seek it out. I agree it may be a KCK address but to me it is in Edwardsville. The dining room is small but clean. A real home town diner feel.Staff was attentive and friendly. Now lets get to the food. The smell of smoked meat envelopes you in the parking lot when arriving. The menu is posted above the ordering counter, with quite few options. We ended up ordering the Dinner Special where you pick your meats mix or match pulled pork, beef, turkey, burnt ends or ham..Add ribs too for only $2 more. Burnt ends were outstanding. tender and moist, with only the outer skin blackened...yet still flavorful. Dunked in sauce it was a taste sensation. Turkey was moist and smoky in its flavor. Pulled pork was extremely tender and fat free, nice smoky taste. The fries were in a huge basket and screaming hot from the cooker. Had to let them cool before you could handle them. We asked the owner if they cut their own fries, because they tasted so fresh, but she said they were not. One side with the dinner special was enough for two people. In fact there was so much food, we had to ask for a doggie bag. Both of us opted to sample the cheesy corn which had a ample portion of ham chunks, mixed in crisp sweet corn, drenched in a thick cheesy sauce. We were told this diner has been open about a year. I would definitely recommend any Barbeque lover to give it a try, especially if you are a western metro dweller. A short drive keeps you away from the speedway cluster or the drive back into the city, and gives you stellar food that rivals the in town big name places, at a reasonable price. Enjoy the home town personal service of the owners making sure that you are pleased with your visit. We were.
