I've been eating often at this restaurant for the last 13 years. It recently changed hands to another family member after original owner retired. I'm very pleased to say that the food is still just as fresh and tasty as ever and the new owner has been working tirelessly to freshen the interior and project a classic yet more modern decor. The menu retains the classic favorites with a couple modern twists available. Casa built a large customer base by serving great food quickly, reasonably priced (including the drinks) and a cast of friendly, attentive wait staff that never let my iced tea get below half-full. Whenever I'm thinking of Mexican food they are always at the top of my list. To continue, because some have questioned my sincerity, I arrived here as an active duty Air Force Master Sergeant in 2002 and settled in Derby - just happened to be close by Casa. Co-workers recommended I try it and I quickly became fond of the place for the reasons I mentioned above. For those who don't like refried beans you can request whole beans as a substitute (I often do), but you can skip to the bonus round and order Mama's bean soup - it's delicious! It could be a meal by itself.

Really wanted to love this place since it's so convenient to my house and had so many great reviews. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. My enchiladas were dry, no sauce at all. The beans and rice lacked flavor, also dry. Perhaps my food had been sitting too long before being delivered? I was surprised to see the waitress arrive with my families order without any tortillas. A Mexican restaurant where tortillas don't automatically come with your plate?! Really?!! The "hot" salsa was decent, the mild tasted like marinara sauce. No Bueno! If you're looking for authenticity, this is not the place. Thankfully, my madre and abuela taught me how to make the real deal when I can't find a restaurant to make it for me on a night out.

Our favorite Restaurant. The best Mexican food and the friendliest service you can ask for. A must for our our Family at least once a month, if not more.

This place is fantastic! Great food and ever greater staff! This family owned restaurant is one of the most friendliest eating establishments I've ever been too. The owner and servers always remember my family and we don't come a lot. They are always on top of the ball! The food is more authentic than most restaurants in town. I've never ordered something from here I didn't like. All you can eat tacos on Wednesdays is the way to go! It's usually pretty busy but I'd say that's because of the great service, location and delicious food! You won't be disappointed!!

This place is good. The bad reviews simply have to be from the competition. They serve well prepared dishes FAST. If you have to wait, it is because they are level full...still get it out fast. You can ask for hotter salsa. Staff is friendly and very detail oriented. The person that got sick everytime they ate there just can't eat Mexican food. I have NEVER had a bad experience at this place. Substitute a side with mama's beans, you won't be sorry...

Best Mexican food in Derby. Been going there for years. Related to Felipe's in Wichita. They have the same recipes.

Meh. I've experienced better is right on. Hadn't been in years because we didn't like it the first two times. Thought we would give it another shot. The taco's were good but a would hardly call a flour tortilla dipped in sauce, folded, mashed flatter than a pancake with melted cheese an enchilada. No heat to the salsa... BUT!! Free Sopapilla's are nice :)

The best place around to get authentic Mexican food! I've been coming here since I was little and it's amazing every time. The service is always amazing and they are very very friendly. Cheese enchiladas sound boring, but they are amazing. Ask for the hot salsa too if you want something extra spicy!!! Love it here!!

As a Texan I hold mexican restaurants to a high standard. I grew up in Haysville, only a short drive from Derby, and even after living in Texas, I still love the food here. The staff is helpful, though always very busy. If you go often enough they will remember you! Also, free sopapillas!

Very tastey food! Thankfully, this is not one of those restaurant that ruins every dish w/spices so hot you can't taste what you're eating! I've never been to this restaurant on a slow day, I don't believe they have those. :-)

Everyone from Derby always raves about thins place and I have no idea why. They use yellow cheese which I have a problem with on my mexican food. I get sick afterwards every time I eat here. The only thing I like here is the frozen strawberry margarita.

If you are "local" to the Wichita area, and are acquainted with the "Felipe's" family of restaurants, and you are partial to their cuisine, then this is the "Felipe's" of Derby, Kansas. Big plates of affordable but non-descript food sorely in need of some seasoning or zip or pizazz. The two salsas provided on the table are both, so far as I can tell, mild, but they are good enough to provide a bottle of "Louisiana Hot sauce" or something similar to kick up the octane, or you can order a side of jalapenos or ranchero sauce. The cheese in most items is the standard Velveeta-like processed yellow cheese that should have no place in Mexican food but covers almost everything around here. The chili verde pork contained in or poured over the burritoes, sanchos, and enchiladas IS tender and good, and if you have to choose your side, go with the light, fluffy rice over the pedestrian refried beans. Service is fast and friendly, even on weekends when the place is packed, and you need to save a corner of your stomach for the hot and fresh sopapillas - honey's okay on them, but try the strawberry sauce if it's offered.

This was a great little find. Free chips and salsa and free desert :) The lunch specials were priced just right and were just the right size. I cleared my plate and so did those around me. We also had very friendly and prompt service :) Well worth the visit.

On a trip back from Wichita, we were looking for a good Mexican meal someplace other than a chain. The guy behind the counter at the Goodwill recommended this place, and he was right! I was a little skeptical after tasting the chips and salsa. The chips are thicker than you usually get in a restaurant, cold in the basket, and bland. The mild salsa tasted like tomatoes, nothing else, and while the hot stuff was hotter, it wasn't any more complex. Our meal arrived, and when we dug in I was much happier! I ordered the carnitas, tender pork loin marinated in orange juice and served with pico de gallo, guacamole, rice, and tortillas. These carnitas were amazing...so tender and flavorful! The pico and guacamole were also wonderful. My husband had the steak enchiladas. Two thin pieces of steak were laid on top of two cheese enchiladas. He said the steak was flavorful but tough. The waitresses were wearing t-shirts emblazoned "Peace. Love. Nachos." but I think they should read "Peace. Love. Carnitas" ! The staff is very friendly and the place was busy, busy, busy on an early Saturday evening!

As a residence of Wichita, making a drive to Derby can be a pain, but if you're going to Casa Martinez, it's worth it. Everything on the menu is good. Tacos are homemade, the Fajitas are excellent, and the guacamole is good too. They have beer and a few mixed drinks: margaritas, daiquiris, and my favorite the Miami Vice...it's fruity, yummy heaven.

Several memories at this place - arguments with my girlfriend, then another time that went well - and with the kids now that we're married. So, it has that flair to it for us. Love the fresh chips and excellent salsa. Nothing surprising here, but excellent, consistent Mexican food. Definitely choose over a chain location. Help has been a bit slow, but we go in with that in mind. We always leave full and happy.

Pretty good mexican food. Friendly local staff. This place is packed for lunch whenever I go. Not quite as spicy as some other places but still very good flavor. Free Sopapillas!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
