Well we decided to come and give this place 1 more try because of the prime rib dinner on Friday night well we are very disappointed in this place we stood and waited to be seated and finally sat ourselves not 1 person come to help even the 3 old ladies next to us were waiting forever to get their order taken finally I stopped a waitress got our order n drinks hubby starts eating and finds a damn hair in his food!!! I can't believe we went back to that place it's a joke! Do not go there to eat it's a waste of time and money!! Never again!

I've been going to this place for the past couple days and I'm very pleased. The bar is a little small, but there are plenty of tables and the service is good. It's very clean and doesn't smell like your typical bar. There are good drink specials every day as well as food specials. I got the prime rib special and it was huge. I've also had the ty burger, grilled chicken sandwich, and chislic appetizer. All we excellent. I hope to come through Chanute again just to eat and drink at Mel's.

Came back for lunch and ordered a burger with sweet potato fries at the bar. About 10 minutes later, another guy sat next to me and ordered chicken fingers. 5 minutes afterwards, another guy sat down at the bar and ordered a reuben. So this is now 15 minutes that I've waited. 10 minutes later, chicken fingers and fries show up for the guy sitting next to me. 5 minutes later, the reuben shows up. So it takes 30 minutes to make a burger and sweet potato fries??? I know you have fries and burgers because I've been watching them come steadily out of the kitchen. Waited another 15 minutes and told the waitress that I had to leave. She said that my burger was coming up but I said that I had to get back to work. She asked me if I wanted the food to go and I replied that I didn't have time to eat anymore. She told the manager that I was leaving and I could here the manager saying sarcastically "oh no!!!!!" So I waited 45 minutes for a regular non-special burger with sweet potato fries to not show up while everyone else was eating around me. Never coming back. Service at Benchwarmers is so much better and more sanitary. I saw the manager bringing out a burger with sweet potato fries to another guest. She got to the end of the bar, saw that there were a couple if regular fries mixed in and with her bare hands, reached in and began individually picking out the regular fries and tossing them away. So this girl pretty much contaminated the food by using her bare fingers to remove excess fries. I almost puked in my mouth just watching that. That's a health code violation!!! Never coming back and I'd advise everyone else to go to Benchwarmers for better food and service.

Service consistently messed up or mixed up orders, everything from drinks to food. Fries and burgers were dry and burnt. French dip was simply disgusting. Dining room feels dirty and was so cold we had to keep our coats on. Requested condiments were not brought until meal was almost finished. The only thing they did right was keeping our drinks refilled. When one member of our party told the waitress he was brought the wrong fries she just patted him on the shoulder and said, "Well I'm sorry princess." Would never recommend to anyone, ever. Even my enemies.

Had lunch there today and my wife got a Rubin and I had the Cheese Steak with provolone. Both were excellent. Great food and great service. Highly recommend. I would say the best food I've had in Chanute.

Large portions, low prices and great food! You may have to wait a little longer than other places, but the taste and portions are definitely worth it. If you are ordering for lunch, call and order ahead of time. The brisket and pulled pork nachos are my favorite! This place is also good for a night out, beer is cheap but mixed drinks are pricey compared to other bars in Southeast KS, though.

Awesome burgers, wonderful service and warm atmosphere. Love the personalized ceiling tiles. Great sports bar/tavern where everyone knows your name. Make sure to stop in for some of the very best food Chanute has to offer.
