The restaurant is located between the Original Pancake House and The Local, in a strip mall just north of 146th Street at Gray, and very easy to miss if you're not sure where to find it. The inside is clean, with lots of big comfortable booths and your basic orange/yellow/cattle theme color scheme. With pretty much the same menu that you will find at Indy area El Jaripeos and El Rodeo restaurants, Los Toros in Westfield delivers your basic Americanized Mexican fare. Chips and salsa were promptly delivered to the table within moments of our arrival. I liked that they brought the salsa in a little carafe along with 2 bowls, so we could pour a little into one bowl and mix it with the hot sauces on the table, and leave the rest mild for those in our group who are salsa wusses. The chips were fine, warm and crispy but nothing special. Same for the salsa, it served its purpose but did not stand out. My margarita was fine, nothing special and a little weaker than what I usually have at the Westfield El Jaripeo. The rest of our group was excited to see that they have Negro Modelo on tap here, and took advantage of their special pricing for 32 oz drafts. My Enchiladas Suizas was 3 cheese enchiladas smothered in chile verde sauce with soft chunks of pork. It was very tasty, with a nice mix of tangy sweetness and spice in the sauce. The pork was tender and flavorful. The beans and rice on the side were flavorless on their own, and greatly benefited from the presence of the chile verde sauce. According to my dining companions, the chicken fajitas were good with lots of pieces of chicken and fresh tasting vegetables. Chimichanga and flautas were just ok. Service was pretty good, coming by a few times to check on us while we ate, and then after clearing the table they left us in peace for awhile as we talked with our friends. We were not rushed or made to feel like we were unwelcome as we stayed an hour after we finished our meal. By this time, the restaurant was almost empty but still an hour away from closing time. I'd go back with groups and family, but not if I'm looking for something new or inspired.

It was a little different from other Mexican restaurants in that it gave a free cup of chicken soup. I ordered a special -- burrito, enchilada, and rice lunch entree. It was OK -- needed a little more seasoning in the meat.

My family and I have been to Los Toros now a half-dozen or more times. No complaints to speak of for any of them. The joint is kid-friendly, especially with their pour-as-you-go salsa/picante. Their tomatillo sauce is excellent, even if a bit spicy. The menu is typical Midwestern Mexican, otherwise, with a few house "especiales"--there's usually a good beer special, too. With friendly service to top it all off, you can't go wrong here.

Mexican food is not a favorite of mine so I have a hard time comparing Mexican food experiences to each other because it all tastes the same to me. From time to time I do crave a taco and since I had not eaten here before we decided to give it a shot. The menu is fairly extensive but it's typical fare and not anything unique. That said, I did find a nice selection of vegetarian combos on the menu and a decent selection of various fajitas. I opted for a bean burrito, cheese quesadilla, and tostada. All three items had just the right amount of cheese and "stuffings." My boyfriend had one of the fajitas dinners that had a lot of meat and and a perfect amount of spiciness. I also had a house margarita that was just so-so. Tasted heavy on mix and light on booze. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is prompt and friendly. I especially liked the bartender who had us try a couple of different tequilas after we asked which they typically use and which tastes the best. They keep the chips and salsa flowing here and they arrive seconds after you are seated. Overall a decent meal and a place I would go to again when the mood strikes.

Best nachos in town. I have tried a few other menu items but the nachos are by far the best. The service is good and efficient.

Los Toros serves good food at a decent price. My personal favorite in the Carmel/Westfield area. We've been here several times & haven't had a bad experience. The hosts & servers are always friendly & prompt...I've rarely had to ask for a refill. I love the Burrito Choris! Almost addicted to it. They have many meals with actual steak for the beef, not just ground beef (though that is an option). Traditional chips & salsa are plentiful & pretty good. Seating is good & you do not feel crowded. They have several booths large enough to sit 6 adults comfortably which is nice to find in any restaurant. They have several TV's (usually showing sports) but the atmosphere is not loud at all which is something I really look for when dining out.

I've been coming to Los Toros with my family for about two years now. We try going at least 3 times a month. The place is amazing! It never disappoints. The portions are huge so you are always leaving full. The staff are always so humble and are very quick when you have something to say to them. Never a long wait for food and the wait for a table is never longer than 10 minutes. Plus it's very cheap so you're getting a lot of food and drinks for your buck. All around best Mexican restaurant in the area. I recommend it to anyone!

I enjoy the chips and salsa here. Very good (not sweet) tomato taste. Not to hot, just mild...The older I get the milder the salsa needs to be. But any who....I can't steer away from the Taco's de Carne Asada. Three grilled skirt steak taco are the Boss. The other Mexican Restaurants around the area seem to boil the meat which leaves it chewy. This place grills the steak. I leave with the bill around $11 (tacos and tea) and a full tummy. Muy Bueno!!!

So with The Local wait too long we decided to come here. Decor is typical Mexican place. Chips and salsa was okay nothing great but not bad. I had a shrimp quesadilla it was full of shrimp and tasty. Margarita was pretty tasty too. Pretty typical Mexican joint. Service was good and prices were fair.

Fairly standard Mexican fare but a very nice restaurant with a bigger menu than most Mexican restaurants. The big plus from me is that they have cholula hot sauce on the table. Why other Mexican places don't serve that blows my mind.

This is our "go to" mexican resturant. You won't find better. They have all the usual tacos, burritos, and more, as well as American spin dishes, but then they have some wonderful authentic dishes. I just wish I could branch out from the chili poblano....

My family loves coming to Los Toros. It has become our go to Mexican place in the Carmel area. The service has always been good and we enjoy the food. The frozen margaritas aren't too bad either. I've never had a bad experience in over a dozen times or more going to this place over the past couple of years.

Wait staff were great, food came hot. It just wasn't something that would stand out.

Good Mexican food. Service is average. Take out is a challenge. First they have a hard time understanding over the phone. Next you can order 1 meal or 10 meals and they say give me 10 min. When you arrive nothing is ready. They also charge you an extra $.50 to do takeout. I have asked about this, and get no response. If you want another bag of their bottomless chips and salsa-they will charge you. So your better off taking up a table and dinning in. You will save money by doing so. Crazy!

This is the best mexican place that my wife and I have found in Carmel. my wife is from Arizona and swears that they have the best chiles poblanos that she has had since she left AZ. I almost always get the enchiladas suizas which are cheese enchiladas smothered in fork tender fall apart pork with cheese and tomatillo sauces. Flat out delicious! and if you like shrimp, try their coctel de camarron for a starter for 2 or a meal for 1. We Love this place. The service and food are always great..

Friendliest service in town! We love coming to this Los Toros. The food is good (I recommend the chicken chimichanga), and the salsa is good too. Clean atmosphere, and a place to dine as a couple and also very family friendly. We have been coming here since they opened, and have never been disappointed. I am a fan!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
