I stopped in at the request of my wife and boys...I was not going to order anything until I saw the variety of flavors and how great the ice cream looked. Anyhow...no line on this day Yelpers - we walked in, ordered our ice cream, received our ice cream and marched right out - boy was it good! The ice cream comes from a family owned place in Wisconsin I believe...plus the owner (Pat, I guess) was very kind as she served us our ice cream...I ate all the left-overs that my boys did not finish :)

Okay, let's just say they have a great variety of flavors. Friendly service and all, but waaaaaaaay too expensive for ice cream. I got ONE scoop of ice cream in a cup and it was about $3.50. I could go to cold stone and get a better heaping spoon full for about that price. My friend got a waffle cone with two scoops of ice cream it was about 7 dollars. I was appalled, and I won't ever go back. Cool place though.

The ice cream flavors are abundant here! I had a scoop of green tea and a scoop of horchata, while my husband had two of the seasonal flavors--black licorice and pumpkin. I was pretty sure the ice cream was MaggieMoo's but it didn't say the name anywhere. The ice cream texture and the logo is very similar.

This is a staple in downtown Valpo. As mentioned before, they have an interesting selection of flavors. My husband can't help but order Fat Elvis, being a fan of the flavor and the musician. They have all the necessary flavors that kids gravitate towards. Why do I prefer Pat's over other local options? I tend to choose flavors for what I consider the mature palate. I really don't like ice cream all that much since I usually find ice cream to be too sweet. However, green tea ice cream or the pumpkin ice cream with ginger snaps has just the right amount of sweetness. And how can you not like a place that crafts its own varying flavors of waffle cones? The decor is a bit cluttered and has random items for sale on the counters. But look beyond these distraction and enjoy this mom-and-pop ice cream parlor that offers a great product mixed with a bit of Valpo history.

I like this place a little too much for my own good. I love the ice cream flavors but all the waffle cones and bowls they make are where it's at. I also like grabbing a couple tubs to go. I wish the seats were a little more comfortable and easier to bring a group to.

For starters, the ice cream here is decent (but nothing special) and the service was fine. However, the place has a creepy, cheap vibe, condescending and ancient signage and paper clutter everywhere. They also appear to be selling old sunglasses left by customers which is both disturbing and unhygienic. The decor is a bunch of strange, Hobby Lobby-esque paintings which do not go with ice cream parlor decor at all. Additionally, there is an additional charge for credit card purchases under $5 which they are technically not allowed to do according to the credit card companies themselves. I have no idea how they've stayed in business this long. Valpo Velvet is 10x better both in terms of ice cream quality and atmosphere.

Pat's is a great place. The restaurant is clean and the employees (and owner) are nice. They have a large variety of unique ice cream flavors. I wish they'd give a little more in their samples, though. They use a popsicle stick to scoop a little out for them and it's hard to get the feel for whether or not you like it with that small amount. I also wish they had more seating (inside) but, they're doing the best they can with their suite. The prices are a little on the high side, but, it's worth it for the occasional treat. My fave flave is Zoreo. :) Dark chocolate ice cream with oreo in it. Mmmmm. The german chocolate was also awesome as was the peanut butter cookie dough. The fat elvis wasn't too bad either. I never had the courage to try the black licorice because I don't like that candy. Like I said, many many unique flavors! They have coupons in the Entertainment coupon book if you want to save some $$$.

This is the only ice cream I will eat at Valpo. I am super sensitive to any additives that are so popular to sneak into ice creams and this place honestly puts nothing in that doesn't belong in there ( unlike Cold Stone and Dairy Queen). It is going to cost a bit more but unless you're an everyday triple scoop type of customer, it won't break your bank. And if you are that customer... well...there are more serious issues to deal with than paying too much for ice cream. The owner is also great, we've had at length discussions with her about importance of good ingredients -an area of great importance to me!

Great ice cream, but we've been there twice recently where there were maybe 20 people waiting and only 1 person working the counter. Too bad really. We left with nothing both times because we didn't want to wait. I'm sure we weren't the only to give up....

This is a cute place right off the square to get some ice cream. It was pretty good, how can you go wrong.
