This place is a treasure. Chris is a true part of the community and challenges me to try new things as he gives advice on craft beer and cheese. My only issue is the hours. They are often not open when I'm in the mood to blow some foody cash. An extra hour on Friday and Saturday would do the trick.

This is where I tried chocolate covered gummy bears for the first time. I can never repay them for that.

Chris, the owner, was very accommodating and friendly. The wines he helped us select were well received and well enjoyed. Would definitely recommend shopping here.

HA! I visited Valparaiso with the idea that it had nothing good to offer... Well was I wrong! Valpo has the Old World Market & Delicatessen so take that! Step in to a 'French market' with checkered floor and white tin ceiling to find sweets, baking and spice items, sauces and condiments, pasta and sauces, oils and vinegars and beer/ale [and wine] that make up their large variety of products. Plus they're a delicatessen so they have great cheeses and meats. I'm becoming a wine-o so I went straight to the back of the store to the wine selection. My good friend Yelper Nicole V. would be happy because they have her favorite white wine Gazela Vinho Verde. It's part of their shelf of $15 and under wines. I had to buy myself the Black Cat German Riesling which comes in an adorable wine bottle that is, you got it, a black cat. There are great options for those who go Gluten free. The organic falafel chips are one tasty recommendation. The store gets shipment in of fresh breads from Boudin that arrive half baked and are finished off in store's oven. Nothing but doughy goodness! If you live in the area, join their e-mailing list to find out about monthly wine tastings and events.

Oh, the cheese, the CHEESE! Old World Market has what I like to call the Wall of Cheese. By wall, I mean cooler but damn, that's a lot of cheese. Despite growing up in Hobart, I never stopped in until we were in need of some cheese for an Irish pub type birthday party we were throwing for my brother. I checked the website and lo and behold, cheeses from around the world! The Cahill Porter cheese was a big hit and I couldn't resist the Champignon mushroom brie. They also have the usual gourmet-type stuff: oils, herbs, wine, specialty sodas, etc. along with my sister's beloved Strongbow cider. Service couldn't have been friendlier and I'll definitely stop in again. I've got designs on that Truffle Tremor!

Nice place. Great grape leaves and friendly service. Not sure how a deli rates five stars but you folks have some passion.

Nice little place. A very good selection of cheeses and some nice deli meats. Also, olive oil, vinegars, wine, and beer. Other comestible foodie accessories, too.

You can't go wrong here! The cheese, the wine, the meats, the bread, the lovely cold items in the cold area ALL DELICIOUS! If you have a friend who is a foodie, or you are looking to put together a lovely meat and cheese platter, you can't go wrong here. They will make suggestions for cheeses that will go well together. To be sure that it is a cheese that you will personally like, you will even get to taste it before purchasing. My mom planned her best friend's wedding and Old World did some of the catering with tastey foods. They helped with wine and champagne selections and couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. This is a lovely place to go whether it is a special occasion or just any old day!

This little shop has a nice variety of gourmet items and cheeses and is just so darned cute. Now, the prices are a bit high as I remember it, but if you need good wine, cheese, or oil and happen to be here in Valpo they will have it. The deli is also very good. They are very friendly and know food very well so if you are trying to make something just ask. If they don't have it, they will brainstorm a solution. Another nice shop in this very cute town square.

I love this place, it rocks!! It's great to have a place like this out here because it's like what downtown Chicago has all over. They have nice selections of cheeses, meats and wines and there's always something new to try out. It's located on the square too, so it's a great way to spend the afternoon walking around and then stopping in here.

John and Dee are wonderful. I wish I could afford to go here everyday to buy everything in the store. They offered to buy my favorite pasta sauce, but when they found it cheaper somewhere else, they told me to go there instead. They always have samples that have introduced me to some wonderful new cheeses and meats. Their wine recommendations have always been spot on. I have yet to be disappointed with this store.

Fabulous business full of great people who are always willing to help. I had some of the most amazing cheese I've ever had from there. It was goat cheese marbled with honey! SOOOO good ad the wine he recommended paired perfectly with it! What a gem in Valparaiso.

This place is a beacon in the darkness. Cheese, wine, fresh bread, beer. What more could a sane person ask for? The owner is frequently behind the counter; staff is always helpful and knowledgeable; makes me feel like home.

A wonderful little place. I'd describe is as a small deli and market that carries many gourmet ingredients that aren't available in the local grocery stores. Some of their pre-made items such as sandwiches and antipasto salads are very good and reasonably priced. If you are looking for something specific and hard to find or just a quick lunch item this would be a reat place to look. Also i'd really suggest trying their pretzel bread, it's great and even better when used for a sandwich.
