This is a good, but not amazing coffee house in downtown South Bend. The espresso was simply so/so, as was my breakfast sandwich. The ambience is nice, and there is free wifi and power outlets galore. But I would probably not make a special trip here. The next time I'm in South Bend, I'll probably be giving one of their competitors a try.

I really wanted to like this place so it could be my work spot. It has a great location and nice setting but the service was beyond subpar.

I still love this place! I purchase the whole bean coffee to use at home. Always consistent with roasting. Food is great, baked items YUM. They have a GREAT staff and treat you like a friend. I like the fact it's a local business that believes in working hard. Nothing negative to say about Main Street Coffee!

This is a great alternative to the lame coffee places downtown. Chicory was cool way back before Between the Buns bought it out, and South Bend chocolate was always an also ran. Solid coffee, ok bakery, and solid Wifi make this a place to go. It is not open Sunday and I really wish it were. I live downtown and doing anything on weekends can really be a pain. They roast their own coffee at their second location - in a small town nearby, and that is a plus although the coffee does not strike me as innovative. I will keep drinking it and see what I think in a few weeks. I am happy that this location is no longer a church or if it is they hide it well. A few years back some church group ran this space and had lame local band Student Rick play and I was too creeped out to go in here due to the odd mix of religion, bald rock "stars" and other oddities. Too bad this place is not open Sunday.

My base order was a simple, 8 oz, double Americano. The 1st demerit here is due to staff listening skill as I received a 12 oz, which is too dilute for my taste. On the topic of taste, if one likes the Starbucks style roast, then this will likely please, however I found the beans to be over-roasted such that there is a pronounced, deep scorch (aka burnt note) to the flavor. For a fresher taste, they should have their roaster dial in a City-Roast and make sure it's always less than a week old. Baked goods were okay. Their was nothing that screamed unique, and the sugar load was dialed pretty far down on the sweet scale.

I have lived in South Bend for many years but recently came to Main Street Coffee House for the first time a few weeks ago, looking to try something new. I was greeted by a friendly barista and the wait for our drinks was not too long. I ordered the specialty latte of the day, something with hazelnut, coconut, and white chocolate, which was absolutely delicious. I also got the double-chocolate-chip muffin which was INCREDIBLE. The prices are reasonable, especially for the size of the drinks. I have already been back twice since my first visit and each time I've been thoroughly impressed and pleased with my experience. The cafe has the perfect ambience to read, study, relax, and talk to friends while enjoying your coffee. I love Main Street Coffee House and would recommend it to anyone as the best place to get coffee in Michiana. I'll definitely be back plenty of times in the future! :-)

If I ever move to South Bend someday, it will be to live in Main Street Coffee House. I canNOT get enough of this place. Coffee drinks are delish, cozy armchairs and nice ambiance, and the best baked goods like, maybe, ever. Also in the winter they have blankets and little portable radiators. You know what I mean? The kind of place you could eat a scone or a pumpkin bar and then pass out on the sofa for three hours. That's this place. Seriously. The granola bars? The peanut butter and cranberry ones? THEY ARE SO GOOD. THEY ARE THE BEST THING. PERIOD. Scones- go directly here and get a raspberry white chocolate scone. Do not pass go. Do not collect 200 dollars. After you finish it, if they still have them, get a frosted pumpkin cookie. Then polish it off with a granola bar. Then try another one of the many amazing looking pastries that I haven't tried yet. Then do it again tomorrow.

Main Street Coffee is a student's dream. I love to cool out for a few hours while I pretend to work on my dissertation. Big pluses: their "stay a while coffee" gives you free refills all day. I try to avoid being a cheapskate by also ordering my lunch there, which is pretty decent as well. They stop selling hot food at 2 pm, which is reasonable for an establishment of this size, but don't plan on grabbing a late meal here. The environment is generally quite cozy, though it can be crowded if you come in around lunchtime. The downsides: if you park in downtown South Bend, you've gotta move your car every two hours. Bummer. Also, the music they play can get kind of repetitive. I mean, I like Adele as much as the next guy, but enough is enough after a certain point. Still, these are minor kvetches--after all, I come here all the time.

Quad shot large latte is the standard... That is worth 5 stars by itself! 4 shots... Did you get that? Four shots of espresso in a large. I love caffeine! Just to review, four (4) shots are in a large latte!

Good strong locally-roasted coffee in a comfortable setting. Friendly folks. You can get around to go- bean or they'll grind it for you. About $11.50 per pound. Delicious pastries.

This is a cozy little cafe in Downtown South Bend, perfect for studying, with ample space and seating and free wifi. It's not usually that crowded so it's a really relaxed environment. I've come here on many a studying outing, and always get a lot done. Prices are fairly reasonable, and I like the coffee, as well as the food options I've tried. They have pretty much the standard menu selection, including sandwiches, pastries, and soups. And I absolutely love the 'Stay Awhile Coffee' option, which lets you get unlimited refills of coffee for a very reasonable price, as someone else mentioned. It's also open until late on saturdays!

I was there this last week for an evening event where there was musical entertainment. This is a nice place and I liked the atmosphere. Because it was cold outside I was looking forward to ordering a hot sandwich or bowl of soup. I was disappointed because every item I asked for wasn't available. I eventually just ordered coffee and a dessert. But, you could have made more money if you'd had hot foods available. Others behind me were disappointed as well.

Loved the vibe and the location. Had the breakfast enchilada and loved it! Good coffee and hot chocolate.

I was not impressed. It is nice to have coffee at a place that's not a huge chain, but that is the only redeeming factor here. The coffee was bitter and overpriced.

I've been here several times over the last few months. Each time I've been there the employees seem inexperienced and tacky. The lady helping me had no idea what the specials were and lacked the dignity and manners of a professional. :/. Maybe things will get better in the future. Also the decor is more "cutesy coffee shop" and not real stylish....strikes me once again as slightly tacky. If the prices were a little lower, help was friendlier, and atmosphere was a little more quality then I'd be a fan!

I tried their Chai Tea today and it was great!! Their desserts (strudels and such) looked great..I was hoping for a cheaper pricepoint compared to Starbucks but I think it was higher...I sure hope the rest of their menu lives up to their $4.55 Chai Tea...

Main Street -- in the former location of Ugly Mugs -- is, for my money, one of the top cafe options in South Bend: 1. Friendly staff! 2. Decent sandwich and soup options! 3. Nice flat tables to work on, with a good number of electrical outlets! 4. Free wifi! 5. Free refills on plain coffee! 6. Open until 10pm on week nights and 11pm on weekends! Is it the most absolutely amazing and noteworthy cafe I've ever been to in my life? No, but it is a pretty good place to grab lunch / read / do the kind of work you do in coffee houses, and I think it's pretty neat that they roast their own beans in Nappanee. And while I've been enjoying having the place to myself (there have never been more than 3 other people there...) -- it's like a library, but with natural light and refreshments! -- I hope that their customer base picks up. Because, honestly, Michiana: we have a dearth of cafe options. We need to work to keep the good ones open.
