I would rate this place lower if I could. I took my wife here last night so that we could enjoy a night out and what an awful decision it was. This was not the first time that we went here and had issues. The service we had was slow...it took them almost 20 minutes to bring out a glass of red wine. I would understand the long turnaround time if it was busy but it wasn't...it was a Monday. We saw the majority of the servers standing around in groups talking. My wife ordered the minestrone soup and it made her so sick she couldn't finish her meal. When we returned the soup and told the waitress that she didn't like the soup she asked if we would like something different to go...I said yes and asked for a different soup to go thinking this would be comped...when I got the bill I saw they charged me for an extra soup. The bathrooms were dirtier than a Speedway gas station...the urinal in the men's room was broken and paper was thrown all over the floor. I would like to also thank the person that peed all over the floor in there...I was so grossed out that I flushed with my foot and wouldn't touch anything with my bare hands. While we were waiting for our food we saw something so gross...we watch a server with pink hair standing at the service window scratching the dandruff off here head for almost a minute straight while expediting food. $90 later for a dinner for four...we left and will not be returning ever again.

My husband and I went there last night for our anniversary. They were not busy at all but it seemed to take quite a while to receive our bread and our drinks. I ordered pasta in a tomato cream sauce and it was more like pasta in a tomato water sauce. It did not have much flavor. We also ordered the lobster mac and cheese to take home for our son. He said that the lobster was either artificial or so overcooked that it was rubbery. Very disappointing anniversary dinner. Not sure if we will go back. Very expensive for so so food.

It's a chain. The staff can learn how to be more attentive. Waiting on refills of water and asking if we needed anything would have been nice. Food is okay nothing really sticks out for me. Went here twice for lunch and both times the check was over 50 for 2 not including a tip. Thinking that they didn't have a different menu I asked for a dinner menu on the way out to see... No they do have a dinner menu and food cost more there. There's a few other choices in The Region for Italian that aren't a chain and a lot better. Good thing because this isn't a place I'll pick but if I'm with someone who wants to go that's fine.

I had a really bad experience here. I was so excited to try out a new local place and I was so disappointed. Waitress was awful and kept forgetting stuff. The food was bland and thrown together and for the price I will not be returning.

This is the 2nd time I've been here. The food wasn't memorable. By that I mean I literally couldn't remember what I got the last time I was there. This time we ordered the calamari which came out way too quick. We're talking 5 minutes or less. I'd almost bet that they just made a ton, had it laying around for someone to order it and just put it back in the fryer for 2 minutes. I then ordered the lobster macaroni and cheese. Tasted ok but I smelled something funky. The other 3 in my party smelled as well and they couldn't tell if it was the sauce or what. I didn't want to chance it with the lobster so it went back although this may be the first time I've ever sent something back at a restaurant. The waitress was apologetic. Came back 2/3 times and apologized and asked if the manager had come by yet. He never did come. I told her I was not upset at all and I actually felt bad because it may have been perfectly fine but it just smelled wrong. Got chicken parm to replace the lobster mac. It was fine but the damage was already done. I had already had to use the rest room twice and my stomach was bubbling. Here I am 12 hours later and it still is. Could've been the calamari, could've been the lobster mac but it really doesn't matter, I'll never go back again. I recommend Ciao Bella or Anthony's for a better experience.

Stopped here for dinner one evening. I wasn't super-hungry so I just ordered a side salad and caprese plate, in addition to a glass of summer sangria. Salad was pure iceberg lettuce and a few shredded carrots. Dressing - house - was plentiful and very good. I will say the caprese plate was generous, although the balsamic drizzled on top left it all very bland. Service was average. I did have to insist on being seated in my requested area.

This was first time to this restaurant. I went with my wife and one of our best female friends. One of the Carrabba's restaurants had recently opened back in Fremont, CA but never had an opportunity to eat there so we were pretty excited about this opportunity. The first impression was not so great (from the seemly tired hostess). She didn't even invite us with a salutation/greeting...let alone a smile! We waited for an acknowledgement but then my wife decided to say, "Highhh...how you tonight!" Then, she responded with a greeting...somewhat too late! We were tempted to walk back out but am I so glad that we decided to stay! We were seated by the hostess and as she left we were discussing the hostess's bad first impression...then here comes flying to the rescue, Jeff, "THE SUPERHUMAN SERVER/WAITER WHOM LOOKS LIKE THE COMEDIAN VINCE VAUGHN", to SAVE THE DAY...YEAHHHH! My wife explained to Jeff the crime which had just taken place and he immediately began to rest assure us that he would resolve the situation by using his SUPERHUMAN SERVER/WAITER skills and his COMEDIAN VINCE VAUGHN looks to resolve the matter! Lol Once, Jeff realized that it was our first time visiting, he begin to inform us about the restaurant and all that was available. He caught my attention when he expressed how we could sit at the salad bar and see how the chefs make the different salads and appetizers. So I commenced towards the salad bar area. As I sat, I was met by a friendly smile from Matt and then met Nate. These two guys made me feel very comfortable, as if I was at the family table of their own home. First, Matt asked if I had been here before? And, I answered, "No." He then begin to ask Nate if he should cook the shrimp? They looked at each other and nodded their heads in a yes manner and Matt says...I'm gonna hook you up? Do you like shrimp? I say, "Yes!" He preceded to cook and hook me up! Jeff made me share the shrimp with my wife and girlfriend...when both of them didn't even need it! Wife doesn't usually like shrimp and girlfriend is allergic to it; but needless to say...they both said that it was the best shrimp they had ever tasted! It was (as the young kids say) "FIRE!" So as time went by..."Super" Jeff asked what I like to have as an entree, because my wife and girlfriend had already ordered and was waiting for me. I don't know if you get it but..."Super" Jeff was going back and forth from our original table to where I was seating at the taste bar and serving us all...and I mean WELL! I wanted a soup to go with my meal but couldn't decide which one so Jeff asked the chefs if they cold give me taste of ALL three...Wow what service! That was not it then he preceded to bring me out some bread and oil as well! "Super Jeff" was on it with his Super Speed, Super Service, Super Smile, and Super Congeniality! He continued like this to the end! And Matt and Nate's conversation while they fed me some of the best shrimp and soup ever was so great and then met Matt's beautiful wife Cory...and just topped the evening off! The manager also seemed like a pretty nice guy as I saw him mingling with others in the restaurant! Thanks everyone...especially "Super" Jeff! Definitely will be back soon!

I have been to this restaurant three times. The first time went okay, the service was sub par and the food while good just seemed overpriced. Me an my wife paid about 70 dollars for two dinners and two drinks with an appetizer. The second time we went we had an absolutely amazing waitress/server who literally wowed us with her detail and insistence that everything come out perfect. I ordered a steak with asparagus, yet my asparagus was cold as ice and she refused to let me eat them. She went back and demanded they serve me hot fresh asparagus. She mentioned something about the cooks not putting up orders right continuously and it annoyed her. Also she went out of her way to entertain my two young children by bringing them fresh strawberries (free of charge) to munch on and crayons to color. I would've had several complaints about the food had I not had a great waitress whop made sure she fixed everything. Our third and most likely final time at this restaurant I felt I way overpaid for my meal an received luke warm (if that) service from our waitress. We decided on this place for labor day, it wasn't really busy surprisingly. We waited at least 8 minutes before even seeing our waitress and another 10 before even being served water. We ordered, i got the baked lobster mac and cheese with soup and an appetizer of zucchini fries (which were very good btw). My problem was it took 10 minutes after I ordered for me an my wife to get our soup and salad. My wife ordered a sangria and they gave it to her all in a big wine glass because they were out of the usual glasses. It upset my wife because she wanted to share it, she would've thought with it being a 12 dollar drink they would ask her first if it was OK to dump it all in a big wine glass. The waitress brings us bread but no butter (which my wife loves) so we ask for butter an we don't get it till after our dinners have arrived. My lobster mac was runny and didn't taste baked at all (18$ btw) and again we saw no trace of our waitress for 20 plus minutes. I then ordered a jack and coke (8$!!) and it was extremely watery. She also took forever to bring it to me I wanted to drink it with my meal but again was let down by the service. I feel the food overall is very good at this place, but the prices are way to high for the service and portions received. More like a glorified Olive Garden with mostly sub par service staff.

The one on blanding. We went Friday night and the hostess gave us someone's buzzer who never showed. Cool BUT Us and two other couples apparently sat there for twenty minutes with no server coming. How rude ? So many walked by and didn't even look at us. The couple next to Us even said when they waited like a half hour for attention it took an hour for Their food to come. Not coming back again. Service sucked and didn't even eat. We just walked out.

Well the food is ok my waiter suck I was going to give her a tip change my mind she didn't come and ask me if I needed. Anything I had to ask another person to help me she gave me no bread. She's doing a lot of talking so I'm keeping my 20 dollar tip

My husband had been to this chain before and since it is new in town we decided to try it. The waitress was very friendly and full of energy though it was the end of the night. She asked us if it was our first time and went over the menu a bit. They have a lot of wine selections as well as some specialty sangrias! My hubby was happy that they had a few craft beers on tap. We took a little while to order. Prices range anywhere between 12-25.00 depending on what you want. They have small dish and large dish versions. Some items are marked to show that the dish is under 600 calories for those of you that are watching. We ordered our meals and it came with soup. I had the minestrone and it was very good. It was hearty and wasn't super brothy with potato. My husband had Sausage Lentil... I tried it and it was so good!! So if you see that this is their soup of the day and you like sausage you will like it!! The bread they brought to our table was delicious! You do not have to use the oil they being for dipping, you can ask for butter if you wish. I ordered the Pollo La Scala which is a chicken dish with white wine, mascarpone and roasted red pepper sauce. I decided to pay an extra 2.00 for a side of fettuccine instead of getting potatoes. The dish got to my table and I was a little shocked. For the price, there really wasn't much there. Of course I realize that I am always over served at other restaurants. I ate bread, soup and my meal and I was comfortably stuffed. I did not mind the portion. Some people might be sad that there is not more though. The chicken was pounded thin and coated in sauce. The sauce was slightly sweet and very tasty. I have had better fettuccini (sp) at other places but this was still very good. My hubby had Pollo Rosa Maria which is chicken that is stuffed with fontina cheese and prosciutto, topped with mushrooms, grilled and covered with basil lemon butter sauce. He got a very healthy serving of garlic potatoes and I tried them. They were very good some might need to salt these as they were not salty at all. His chicken was so good that I wanted to trade him. His dish had a wonderfully grilled taste and that basil lemon butter was something I enjoyed. For a soda, beer and 2 entrees we paid about 42.00 before tip. We would go back.

Went online to get on the waiting list before we arrived. Saturday night expected a wait, no big deal. Went to the bar to get a drink before dinner while we waited. We stood there for 10 minutes before I had to say "dude can we get a drink? He looked at us like he was in another world. Asked for a Heineken and a glass of wine. Asked what size wine and didn't acknowledge the beer. Asked again if i wanted a drink and then he says out of Heineken. Walked out because of the horrible service at the bar, couldn't make it to dinner. Good luck getting past the incompetent bar tender.

Great food & service. A definite go back, & I'm not even a big fan of Italian food! The whole family enjoyed the experience, 3 times better than Olive Garden but a little more expensive. Your getting a much better quality at here!!!

Came here over the holiday break with some friends and family, and I have no idea how this place could be so packed for being just another chain restaurant. It's as authentic as Olive Garden, tastes about the same as Olive Garden, and might actually be more expensive than Olive Garden. Most of the main dishes are pretty basic -- variations of pasta and tomato sauce -- and while tasted ok, it was not impressive. The appetizers were also nothing special, and the calamari was actually disappointing. My overall experience with dinner was just underwhelming. The only saving grace is the service. If there are people waiting outside in the code [again, this was over the holidays], they came out with complimentary hot drinks. Once we got seated, our waitress was energetic and fun, despite having such a crazy busy restaurant to help serve. I don't know, maybe this place is good by Schereville standards, but in the grand scheme of things, this restaurant is just average. If you really want Italian and can get seated relatively quickly, then that's great, but it wasn't worth the 45-minute wait. They don't take reservations, so the only thing you can do is just call ahead and put your name down in advance.

I'm not a chain restaurant basher. Had many a fine meal in chains. However, I'd point you to other local establishments over this place any time. While busy, they were able to get us in quickly. The server was energetic and nice but I think he could brush up a bit. When we ordered the "Antipasti Plate," his response was, "You mean the sampler, right?" Oh, and it wasn't antipasti, bruschetta, mozzarella sticks, and calamari. The bruschetta and mozzarella sticks weren't bad. The calamari was very bad. Salty, rubbery, and fishy. Here's my first local recommendation, you want good calamari, go to Dante's on 45th and White Oak. Good pizza and family italian there. We ordered the main courses soon after arriving. It arrived nearly an hour later. I'm all for timing and enjoying a leisurely meal but we went way past that. The salad was meh. Simple romaine, balsamic dressing, some shaved carrots and 2 kalamata olives. Yup, meh. Once it arrived, my daughter's noodles had no butter and the kids broccoli wasn't plain, as ordered. Our server brought extra buttered noodles, bless him, he was trying, and really was nice. My prosciutto wrapped pork medallions were lukewarm and dry. The sautéed spinach wasn't bad on the side though. My wife had been excited to try her dish but after a few bites, I believe her quote was, "it's bland mac 'n cheese." Disappointed. In defense, my son loved his chicken fingers, declaring them the best ever. He's 5. The second reco I'd make, if you want a more upscale italian experience, I'd still go with Cafe Borgia. Maybe a little pricier but way better, by far. As we were leaving, the lobby was packed and there were people waiting outside. Maybe I'm just being harsh but I don't think we'll be back for a while. Hopefully they'll have ironed out some of their kitchen kinks.

Great place if you have the taste for some good pasta. I had the Fettuccine Carrabba and it was very delicious. My wife had the chicken Parmesan and I had a taste of it and it was yummy. Our waiter was very friendly and was very prompt. We been here for dinner and lunch I we enjoyed our meal both times. I recommend Carrabba! Enjoy! #SeñorFood

Visited Carrabba's last night with the wife and 4 good friends. We were told the wait was going to be about 35 minutes but we were seated after about 20. The waiting area looked like it would be comfortable if you had an opportunity to use it, but I didn't. It was so packed that I was forced to stand in the way of waiters and waitresses making their way to their tables, and patrons excusing themselves for a bathroom visit. I apologize again. It was just that busy. For an appetizer my friends and I ordered the sampler plate. The calamari was exceptional. For my entree, I ordered the Fettuccine Carrabba. The portion was small for the price, but it was delicious. Although my entree portion was smaller than I would have liked, I was ultimately satisfied as a result of the fresh bread we were provided, and my side salad. My wife ordered a flatbread pizza which was tasty as well. Out waiter, Patrick K, definately knew his business and had no problem rolling with punches our group threw at him. Patrick was a great sport. Overall our experience at Carrabba's was a great one. I would recommend that people leave their children at home when they visit Carrabba''s, it's a bit pricy and almost formal. If your kids want Italian food, take them to The Olive Garden and tire them out with those tasteless endless breadsticks. Personally, If I'm going to a place like Carrabba's, I'm doing so without my children. With that being said, I surely don't want my date night experience being ruined by someone else's annoying children. All around good time. We'll be returning.

I had the the soup and pizza lunch special and it was excellent. The sausage in the pizza was spicy and added the right amount of zest. The bean soup was tangy and filling. Its service is great and a great place to eat.

Fantastic Italian food with great service! We came here for a nice dinner and that's what we got. Our waiter was very polite and gave us some good suggestions as well. I had the Chicken Marsala and peach sangria, both were both awesome! I would definitely go back.

Great opening night. The food was amazing. This fits nicely in the area as it feels somewhere between fine and casual dining. You don't need a tie or a dress but the atmosphere would work just as well if you wore one. I had a sausage soup (a bit spicy and I loved it), and the breaded seared scallops dish with garlic mashed potatoes. Would have loved slightly larger portion sizes but in the end, I was quite content. Don't forget to stay for the deserts and by all means, try the wines.

It was good..... but..... I would've given this place 2 stars, but they're just too new and need to find their rhythm. The flavor was great, but a little cold, and dirty dishes were "never" taken away. We ate cake on the same plate I put oil on. But the food was good, and thats the most important. Ill try it again in a few months, and if no better, ill change it to a 2.

  • A C.

My wife and I just didn't have a good experience the 2nd time around. 1st time it was good w a party of 14 that's why we returned. This time the calamari was too salty, my wife's minestrone was pale looking like a bowl of boiled vegetables very "sad-looking" she said, then something was floating in ice water, my filet was raw and not medium rare, and this side of shrimp n scallop spiedino was way undercooked my wife spit it out. LOL. So from the beginning if it wasn't appetizing everything else after will fall apart and perhaps the kitchen did? The consistency was definitely not spot-on, great first impression though. I feel that restaurant chain vibe to "just get the food out so they can eat" type deal overlooking the time and quality of what's cooked, or I probably should have ordered a pasta to play it safe. Staff service was great though. We may not be coming back for while, but that hype of this new Italian restaurant is still alive n kicking in the area.

Service was good, however, was seated at a cramped booth with six people, mother is handicapped & using a walker. No place to put coats. Food was just ok, way overpriced for quality. Will go to Cafe Borgia next time.

[EDIT: Had to dock this place a star after actually going to Little Italy in Dyer. No comparison at all. Makes Carrabba's seem like Applebee's in comparison.] This place is quite good. And I give them credit for being one of the only upscale chains (think Cheesecake Factory, or PF Chang's, or Pappadeaux) that has even thought to set FOOT into Indiana. It's funny, all we ever hear is how awful Illinois taxes and how great it is to live in cheap Indiana. So...why do so few businesses come here? Food for thought. Given its success, you'd think they were giving the food away for free. So this should be a wakeup call to developers that, despite having the worst traffic/road layouts in the history of the modern world, Northwest Indiana can and will support nice things. Maybe the Whole Foods will be the tipping point. Who knows. But at least I can come here and pretend I live in a nicer area!

Went here for lunch which can be a risk if the kitchen doesn't have it's act together. I had that exact experience here. The waiter was very good and knowledgeable, we actually got a table quickly. When we went out, the whole lobby was packed. The food was pretty meh. I got spaghetti with meatballs, it was $14.95 for a small plate of noodles with some meat sauce and two cold/raw/frozen on the inside meatballs. Definitely not worth what I paid for it. The meatballs were really mushy on the inside, they are definitely made the night or days before and frozen, a huge faux pas for a place with these prices. The meat sauce on the spaghetti was pretty good. I got minestrone soup and in keeping with the condition of the day wasn't hot. I can't figure out why they can't come in for work early enough to heat things up for the lunch rush they know is coming. I typically don't like going to chain restaurants, but the one in Mobile was so good I had to try this one, and like a typical chain restaurant the attention to detail here isn't there. The money spent on the building was well spent, I wish they could put a little more into the kitchen staff managers. Just ok, wouldn't go back because of the food quality vs price.

Service was horrible! Our waitress was so rude. Our table was right next to the area where they keep the carpet sweepers out. Just so tacky. I will never go back there again. Food was just OK. Nothing that I would be dying to try again. There is too much hype about this place. Thank goodness there was not a two hour wait for a table on the night we went. It just wasn't worth it. Make the trip to Maggiannos!

The only reason for anystars is the great service. The staff is great. I had eaten at the chain in florida and it was wonderful. The one thing that is the biggest turn off for me is the cost to portion size. My date ordered a steak and mashed potatoes. The steak was undercooked and the size of a deck of cards with one scoop of potatoes. And salad. .. $25. Their salads lack everything. It is basically bagged lettuce and carrots with a small amount of their dressing. I had ravioli which was small(a can of ravioli) Also with the same poor salad $13. Maybe they need time to adjust but could have spent 1/2 that at olive garden and atleast had a real salad.

After hearing so many good things about Carrabbas, one of their restaurants opened in Schererville. So, the wife and I decided to give it a try for lunch today. What can we say? In one word, "WOW!". Upon walking up to the restaurant, we noticed a nice patio, which is a nice touch for summer dining (not so much for a snowy, winter like day today!). The decor in this new location is very inviting. Very comfortable booths and tables. In fact, a booth for two is an oversized version of what you would normally find. Again, very comfy. But, it's the food that is the big winner here. A nice selection at lunch (and we're told, an even larger dinner selection is available). We ordered the Chicken Parm sandwich, as well as the Steak Marsala sandwich, both on fresh Ciabatta bread. While waiting for the sandwiches, we were treated to excellent, fresh, warm bread with a wonderful seasoned oil for dipping. Typically, we would ask for some butter, but the dipping oil was very flavorful and the bread was awesome. Now, for the sandwiches. Huge portions. Super tasty. Enjoyed home made garlic mashed potatoes, along with the Orzo. Both were excellent accompaniments to the sandwiches. The marsala steak sandwich was fantastic, with the best Marsala sauce ever tasted. In fact, we ordered a side of the marsala sauce and it came with a huge amount of mushrooms and the richest, tastiest marsala you will ever have. Carrabbas is everything that Olive Garden wants to be. Great food. Huge portions. Upscale interior (with cloth napkins, which is a nice touch). Just awesome. If you are looking for a terrific italian restaurant, with fair prices and great food, look no further. Carrabbas...Thanks for coming to Northwest Indiana!

Very good food. We were all satisfied. Party of six came out for my birthday dinner.Waitress friendly and came back many times. A bit pricey for my taste. Appetizers were a bit salty. Love the atmosphere but noisey. Not a place to go if you want conversation. Hard to hear the other side of table. Would like to try lunch menu next time.

Really good food! I has the Mezzaluna ( I think that's what it was called ). It was semi ravioli with cheese and chicken in tomato basil sauce. The staff was friendly- except for the hostess. It was Mothers Day, it was busy and it was obvious the hostess was crabby. Overall it was very good, nice atmosphere but a little over priced. $12 for a glass of regular house wine.

It was ok. Not great. And not really worth the money. The soup was pretty good. However the main courses were generally bland with occasional peppery spikes. If you're looking for Italian at a restaurant chain, I'd go with Olive Garden. I'm not coming back here.

We were a party of 3 that had "reservations" for 6pm on a busy Friday night. When I called they said they don't take reservations per se, but if you "call ahead" then when you get there, they will only make you wait 1/2 of the time of the "walk-in" customers. So, we get there at 0610 and they had no record of us. We sit at bar for 45 min when we were told our wait would only be 30 min. Finally, after my husband inquired to our table, the host sat us. From there, everything was great. Our waitress, Maya, was just perfect, friendly, timely service, food was delicious. I've heard people compare this chain to Olive Garden, I'd say Carraba's is a very high step above Olive Garden without much more of a price increase. We will return. Oh, we did find out that they way the call-ahead system works, if you are even 2 min late, the system will have no record of you. I think they should fix that, but it is a good thing for you to know if you plan to use that service.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
