I live in hard to find unincorporated Schererville with a Crown Point address. Not much delivers here but a few pizza places. When you are looking for delivery, that gets old fast. I happened on Golden Phoenix while searching the internet. They are 6 miles away from us, but I took a chance and called. They deliver to us!! Had to pay a slightly higher delivery fee, but that is ok, if the food lives up to our standards! And boy, did it!!! We ordered orange chicken, beef egg foo young, Mushroom Supreme, crab rangoon (which came free with the price of our order) and beef fried rice. Let me start by saying the ordering process was fantastic! The gentleman on the phone was very polite and helpful and took his time with our order. The delivery was freakishly fast and super friendly also. And what was most surprising, considering the fast delivery was the freshness of the food!! It was by far, the freshest we have had in the area in the 10 years we have been here! The egg foo young had the light brown sauce, which is hard to find here. The crab rangoon was THE BEST!!! Super stuffed and fried perfectly!!! Very tasty! And the portions were more than generous! The only negative we could think of were the egg rolls that came with a couple of the dishes were not up to par. They were the smaller, more processed seeming type. We will definitely make this our go to dinner delivery place!!

absolutely love this place! its the only chinese place i will order from. I have tried several chinese restaurants in the area and Golden Phoenix is the best hands down. I love their fried pot stickers and pan fried noodles. I have tried several dishes and only a couple have been just average. Their hunan pork is great! So is their beef with garlic sauce. I order smalls and always have enough for leftovers. I think their price is good too. Pretty in line with other restaurants in the area. delivery is fast too.

High priced food and very skimpy portions too.

The food was delicious. We ordered a wide variety of dinners and appetizers and we all enjoyed our food. My minor complaint is that I ordered a Honey Lemonade and received a can of Pepsi and a can of Grape Fanta, but no Honey Lemonade.

Golden Phoenix is on another tier of quality, good taste, and quantity. I love their beef fried rice in that the beef is of good quality and you get a good amount of it in the rice. The Kung Po chicken is my favorite. The sauce is tangy and has the perfect amount of spice to it. The vegetables in it are crisp and fresh. There is a reason why this place does great business.

Don't judge a book by its cover! Golden Phoenix is a true gem. Keep in mind that it really isn't a dine in restaurant. Take it home. When you walk in, they have a motion sensor frog thing that says "Welcome!", which is super creepy, but don't let it scare you off! They make everything fresh, they'll have your food ready very quickly, and if you have a problem they'll do their best to make it right at their expense. I've never had a bad meal from Golden Phoenix. I have had several $100+ orders for dinner parties and my friends are always impressed by how delicious everything is! Seriously, this place can't be beat.

This food is amazing. For the price you can't beat this menu and quality. The staff is always friendly and the food is done fast. I highly suggest the crab Rangoon, walnut shrimp, orange chicken and the won ton soup. Grab their menu and get some even better discounts by the coupons.

Best evah eggrolls - deep fried fresh - come out to the table hot enough to burn your face off. Triple Delicacy lives up to its name. If you're a first timer, make sure to order Governor's Chicken. ****CLOSED**** Golden Phoenix is dead; Long live the Golden Phoenix.

My family has been going to this place for as long as I can remember, and I have never tasted anything here that has been less than amazing. They sure know what they're doing, and they are very friendly and efficient. I highly recommend their orange chicken, egg rolls, and anything with "singapore" in front of it.

Yikes! When I walked in the cook was sleeping on a chair in the kitchen. As I sat waiting for my order, I had the chance to look around. Not the cleanest place in the world. It took about 5 minutes and I was on my way with the large general tso chicken. It was soggy and the chicken was tough. It did not have a lot of flavor and was not hot at all. This was my second choice in this mall and I will not be back.

I have a definite weakness for Chinese food. A definite weakness. That being said, I have a standard favorite restaurant that I patronize--and I am loathe to change. Still, late last night (or late for those of you who usually enjoy dinner before 9:00 p.m.) I found myself at the end of my errand list and absolutely famished. The Golden Phoenix was right there and, with a bit of trepidation, I ordered some take-out. A scant few minutes later, I was back in my car with a vegetarian egg roll and some ma po tofu just waiting for consumption. The verdict? As my rating indicates, it was A-OK--not the best Chinese food I have ever sampled, but definitely not the worst. The veggie egg roll was a little less crispy than I prefer and the tofu was pretty good--spicy, but good. Would I go back again? Under similar circumstances, yes. But I wouldn't make a special trip for it.

I get delivery here all the time. They are my favorite Chinese take-out place around here. I like things spicy and would recommend the Singapore Style rice noodles (spicy and curry flavor) and the crab rangoons are good too. Best pork fried rice I've eaten anywhere.

For the last 10 years I've been eating here a few times a month and in my opinion it's the best around. Great fried rice, soup, wings, chef specials, and lunch specials!!!

I ordered 3 things for delivery... 1 small order of beef lo mein noodles - not very good. 1 small order of combination fried rice - average. 1 small order of hot and sour soup - fabulous. My total - $17.10 Delivery was fast and the food was hot. I would definitely go back for the soup.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. We got a menu in the mail and have not seen a chinese food place that delivers in Schererville before so we gave it a shot. We got combo fried rice, general tso chicken, singapore rice noodles, crab rangoon, and BBQ pork. There was generous meat portions in everything which is usually not the case anywhere else. Plus you get containers that are reusable! We will be ordered from here again.

Cheap but not the best Chinese food. The chicken is kind of weird - stringy and pale. The chow mein noodles were good. There are better places around.

Ordered a couple party trays here a couple days ago and their service was superb!! I was hesitant to order here because on one of their reviews it says they don't provide any extra condiments, but it was the closest place to our hotel. Total was 200 for 8 big party trays and two of the trays were all shrimp!! She gave us a 10% discount which was really nice! Definitely worth it! She also gave us two full party trays of rice, one bag of fortune cookies, and a bag of reg Chinese cookies! I was really shocked because they were so generous! Orange chicken was really good but the salt and pepper shrimp was extremely spicy and I love to spicy but wool! lol

We have been a customer of Golden Phoenix for well over a decade. They have gone through some changes, which I am glad to say most recently have been phenomenal. First, to those who have never been to this restaurant, keep in mind that it is generally a carry-out restaurant (or delivery...more on that later). While they have a few tables, the atmosphere there would make White Castle seem like 5 star ambiance. With that said, you come here for the food and for that you will be well rewarded. Everything they make is home-made and traditional in style. The dishes we enjoy the most? Hunan Chicken (the sauce is rich, spicy and delicious). Sweet and Sour Chicken (usually very good, especially if the frying grease used is new and fresh). Pad Thai Chicken (yep, it's very yummy). Crazy Beef Noodle (excellent). And, our most recent favorite is their home made Hot and Sour soup. If you are a H&S Soup fan, don't pass it up here. The best we have had and at a fair price. Delicious! (I don't know what happened to one of the previous reviewers who said it was awful. Maybe they had a bad batch, as that happened a couple years ago for us, which is why we hadn't tried it again until recently. But, our last 2 visits, this soup was awesome! This will be a regular item on our orders with GP). Now, let's talk about delivery. We typically order at least once a week at Golden Phoenix and many times twice or more in a week. Most of the time we have them deliver. Why? They have the fastest door to door delivery service of any restaurant in the area. We live about 15 minutes away and they usually are at our door within 30-40 minutes tops. The delivery charge is fair ($3 or so) and we always leave an additional tip for the driver. On the off chance they screw up and forget something (happens rarely, but has happened), they immediately will send the driver back with whatever was missing. So, in closing, this restaurant has seen both good and bad in the last decade. But, whoever the current cook is at Golden Phoenix, they have refined the recipes and menu and have come up with some of the best Chinese carry-out in the area. Keep it up!

Well, this is my second time eating here. Currently I am at a friends apartment at the mansards and we wanted some Chinese food. Looked on yelp and found golden Phoenix and was even more happy they delivered. Another bonus they have online ordering through yelp which was really cool. I ordered large wonton soup, crab Rangoon, combination friend rice. Took about 35 minutes from order. Total with 5.00 delivery was $20.31. The food was great! The soup was the best and helped since I have a real bad chest cold. The reason I didn't give them give 5 stars was because there wasn't any complimentary egg rolls, white rice or plastic wear, items that are usually with take out. Especially considering how much we spent. All and all good food option for the lazy. And will travel a distance to deliver. Just don't expect any extra frills.

This food is awful. I have no idea why the ratings are so high. Everything is low grade, with terrible sauce. I've never had such horrid hot & sour soup, it was almost black in color & tasted dirty. I figured I can't go wrong with pad Thai, right? (Don't care that it's a Chinese place- It's still a bad tasting item to tell others to avoid) The sauce tasted just like ketchup! Beef and broccoli was TASTELESS. We've given this place 2 tries & both times threw 3/4 of it in the trash.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
