This is one of my favorite restaurants in Nashville. The atmosphere is great, but what keeps me coming back is the food. How best to put this...? I LOVE IT! While my family loves their burgers and pulled pork nachos, I actually don't eat red meat, but I still find plenty to enjoy here. Warning: their kicked-up cole slaw is ADDICTIVE! I CRAVE it! However, if you don't like spicy food, you might want to pass on the cole slaw. It is seasoned with cayenne pepper. Some days it has a slight tingle, and other days it is on fire, but it is ALWAYS delicious! Some of my other favorites include: *Black Bean Burgers: They are on the appetizer menu because they're mini burgers, but I love to order these as my meal. *Spinach-Artichoke Dip: It is full of large chunks of artichoke, and it's delicious! *Vegetarian Nachos: While many of my friends and family LOVE the pulled pork nachos, I enjoy their veggie version. They are totally different from other nachos. The toppings include corn, black beans, cheese, bbq sauce, and a drizzle of a creamy ranch-like sauce. It's AMAZING! *Chicken wings: These are my dad's favorite, and I will admit that when I eat poultry, these are awesome. They grill them instead of frying them (like most places). You can choose from buffalo, bbq, or spicy teriyaki sauces. They are all good, and you can even eat them plain without sauce and they're delicious! *Portabello sandwich: I think this sandwich is amazing. It's a huge portabello mushroom cap grilled then topped with mozzarella, carmelized onions and and avocado spread (similar to guacamole). My dad is a huge meat-eater, and even he admits to loving this sandwich. This sandwich can get messy, but it's worth it. *Pizzas: Their pizzas are tasty. My favorite is their spinach-artichoke pizza. AWESOME! Lastly, if you get a salad, I highly recommend their bleu cheese dressing. They make it there! It's AMAZING! I'm probably forgetting something, but I hope this gives you enough helpful info. By the way, their seasoning can sometimes lean toward the spicy side (esp. in their soups). However, even if you do not like spicy food, there are options for you here. My dad can't handle anything spicy, but he loves this place, too. If you are sensitive to spicy food, ASK YOUR SERVER. They know what is spicy and what isn't. They can guide you toward the non-spicy items or they can ask the chef to tone down some of the items for you. Give this place a chance. It's excellent food!

Great pizza, love the Busted Knuckle beer. Very friendly place and great waitstaff. Very small, but very nice place. They will let you taste the beer before ordering.

This place was pretty neat! I liked the decor a lot, it's log cabiny. Food is very good, you really can't go wrong with any dish. My friend and I had pulled pork nachos appetizer (great!) and veg. sandwiches (mushroom and black bean). Also they make their own root beer which was great. They also let you taste their beers before you decide (if you want them), I recommend this, because all the beers are very unique tasting. We couldn't figure why they didn't have fries with sandwiches (chips or slaw), but the substitute mixed salad was great. Place is somewhat small, so you come at a peak hour with more than two people, you may have to have hope you find a seat.

Good food, great beer - this is exactly the kind of place needed in South-Central Indiana. Or wait, would that be South-east-Central Indiana? Either way, keep doing what you do, Big Woods!!

Glad I stumbled on this slightly out of the way brewpub. A nice wood beamed ski lodge-esque building is hidden on a little street slightly larger than an alley west of Van Buren and north of Main. Excellent craft brewed beers. Limited menu, but choices that will appeal to carnivores and vegetarians are available. I tried the French onion soup to start. It's a bit non traditional. Served in a large bowl, loads of onions in a broth seasoned by nice fresh herbs. It's topped with grated cheese that's melting as it's delivered to the table and instead of soggy bread in the broth it's topped by tasty, crunchy croutons. A nice variant of a classic. I also tried the pulled pork sandwich. Mounds of nicely smoked pork with just a smidge tangy of horseradish sauce smeared on. They provide a side of sweet BBQ sauce. Wise choice not to slather on the sauce back in the kitchen. It would overwhelm the sandwich. Better to be able to add it to suit your taste. I also had a mixed green salad. Nice fresh greens and I enjoyed their house made bleu cheese dressing. Definitely much better than the basic 'gallon jug' salad dressing most restaurants serve. On to the namesake products... I enjoyed their nice creamy, smooth stout. There's a nod of similarity to a famous stout from Ireland, but with a nice stand alone identity of its' own. I also enjoyed a pint of the red, which was rich and robust. The red made a nice compliment to the smokiness of my pork sandwich. I overheard diners at nearby tables commenting favorably about the pizzas, too. I may have to try one next time I'm passing through the quaint, kitschy berg of Nashville, IN

We like to think we are regulars at this gem of a restaurant/brewery. Food is creative and always good. Prices are reasonable. Service is small town hospitality. APPETIZERS: We started with the Spinach Artichoke Dip ($7.95). - Yummy, perfectly seasoned, fresh, and not huge proportion, which is good. Then on to the Freshly Baked Pretzel ($3.95). - Toasty, soft pretzel with a cheese sauce; basic and good. MAIN: The Big Woods burger w/ cheddar ($8.95) - Not overcooked, which is a sign the kitchen is paying attention and has respect for the meat. :) Veg was fresh, bun was tasty and toasted. BEVERAGES: Way too many Six Foot Blondes (light ale) We collect the pint glasses. Will be back soon! (Ask for "Coach" the bartender) There menu is at: locu.com/places/big-wood…

I've been here several times and always enjoyed it. The atmosphere is great, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the beers and food are good, and they even occasionally have live music. On my most recent stop I had a burger with slaw. The slaw has a bit of a kick and everything was great, it just really hit the spot. Had a shandy, which was good for a hot day. All of their beers are good and they always have seasonals. If they have their pumpkin on tap, I'd argue it to be as good as Schafly's and Dog Fish Head's. If you're a brewer, they have a small brew supply shop, and they also have a pizza restaurant just up the street (which is also great). They even occasionally have brewery tours and classes. The only complaint is that this place can be soooo busy! Why on earth did no one think of opening a brewery in Nashville sooner?!

I really used to love coming here, but now, not so much. This establishment is good, but after experiencing better, I can no longer consider it great. The beer is OK. Honestly, and I'm really into beer, there's nothing on this list I'd go out of my way for. And I used to, a lot. It's not bad though, and I'm certainly not complaining. If you're in the area, I'd encourage you to stop in. The food is pretty decent. The nachos are my favorite, but there's nothing on the menu I couldn't make at home if not improve upon. Avoid the chili. It's ground beef and kidney bean soup. I've never had chili this soupy. Hardly any toppings. Extremely spicy. It could work, the elements for greatness are there, but the execution is either naïve or lazy. The service is fine. When it's busy you can expect to be attended to in a timely fashion, but there can be a lack of warmth, which in my opinion is part of the big woods experience. Mind the flies. I killed six of them last time I came, and it was an extremely unappetizing experience. Will I return? Not unless I'm already in the area, which unfortunately is very unlikely. I've made some nice memories at big woods, but I'm afraid that's all this place will ever be.

3 star food, 4 star entertainment, 4 star beer. Wish there was a 3.5 star rating. This place is good if you like a more intimate setting and not big crowds and aren't too picky on food temperature. On the upside, the pulled pork is smoked and is delicious, the service is pleasant, and their wrap around porch is quaint. They sometimes have live music shows. The food was tasty, but 1) the tacos are a very small portion, 2) we waited extra long for our food to accommodate a well cooked burger, but upon delivery the burger was medium and was finally served correctly after all other diners finished their meals, 3) the portabella mushroom sandwich was served room temperature not hot and 4) the BLT sandwich is served sans sliced bread - instead it's on a bun. I really wanted a BLT sandwich, but it's just not the same on a bun. While this is an honest critique, it was overall good and I'd recommend it to anyone who isn't in a hurry and wants a local culture experience, and would not be bothered enough by these types of small issues that it would ruin their experience.

Big fan of both the brewing company (smaller location behind the pizza restaurant on the main road) and the small bar area within Big Woods Pizza. The brewing company can get very packed. Best places in Nashville, great beer, and very good beer.

Walking around a little town I came across this jem of a place. It has a kick back and enjoy the day kind of place. The girl who was the waitress was really nice and you were stuff about the beers. Recommend stopping in here for play any day of the week.

Love love love! Can we talk about the pulled pork nachos?! Melt in your mouth amazing. I love their beer flights, you get to taste everything including the special. I love the environment of this place in the cabin. Only downfall 1 bathroom, so be prepared to wait after your drink. Amazing beer and even better food!

Not only is their beer fantastic, but so is the food! Their burgers and pulled pork nachos are killer. My only suggestion would be to switch out the fried rice side for something a little more enticing. It isn't bad, but leaves something to be desired. The wait staff is friendly and on top of things. BWBC is a great lunch or dinner spot and I would definitely recommend it to everyone that enjoys a good beer with their meal. A must stop Nashville spot.

This place made me pretty unhappy. We came for lunch, and my table all ordered sandwiches/burgers, while I thought I would be cute and different and ordered the Ahi Tuna "Street Tacos". I cant fathom what street would ever serve these, because it was a completely ridiculous dish. And to top it off, I thought (and the menu didn't say otherwise) that my dish came with a side, like the others. Nope! I got to pay $2 extra for a sauce cup full of broken potato chips. Thank god the table ordered apps, because I would have left as hungry as I came in. So this plate of "tacos". You got three, 3-inch flour tortillas, with a teaspoon of cabbage and red onion on each. There is a thin strip of tuna (actually really well prepared, I'll give them that, even though there was no seasoning to it whatsoever) and then the tiniest drizzle of sriracha mayo. Oh and a slice of lime. That is it. For $11. (well, $13 if you count my awesome side!) The sandwiches and burgers looked fantastic though, and the service was acceptable. I guess I am just kicking myself for ordering the stupidest thing on the menu.

The beer flight is a fun choice but the BBQ wings were really dry, too spicy (and I like spicy), and way too smothered in sauce.

Had a perfect day in Brown County and wrapped it here for a brew and a bite. I had the Knuckle Beer and loved every sip of it. Our server was fantastic and the atmosphere was cozy and comforting. Perfect spot to relax and eat some good food after a day of shopping and hiking.

There are many reasons to go to Nashville, but Big Woods is a guaranteed reason every time. It feel like you've been welcomed into a nice log cabin retreat and you feel like you're at home. The beer is tasty and fulfilling, plus the selection can not be beat. I had both the porter and a fruit beer, both of which would rival some of my favorite craft beers. I would go there for the beer alone, but I'm leaving out the best part... The pizza, OMG THE PIZZA! I'm sorry to bury the lead a bit, but this is some of the greatest pizza that I have EVER HAD. The crust tastes like the best garlic breadstick you've ever had. It's overflowing with cheese, sauce, and garlic. The toppings are huge and numerous. I'm getting hungry just typing this review. TL;DR... Go there, drink beer, eat pizza. I don't care if you have to drive all the way from Alaska to try it; I would.

What a cozy local brewery in a quaint and cozy little town. My husband surprised me with a little anniversary weekend getaway to Brown County, Indiana. There was an event going on- "Taste of Brown County" and as we were walking around, we saw Big Woods Brewing Co and decided to give it a shot as we both love craft beer and local establishments. The beer and the food did not disappoint. We each had a sampler of 5- blonde, amber, stout, and two different IPA's. Loved them all but the IPA's were my favorite- a little hoppy, a little floral and easy to drink. The hubby had pulled pork nachos and I had chili and house salad. The huge plate of nachos piled high with smokey pulled pork was amazing. The next day, we explored the cute town and found the 2nd location for Big Woods Brewing Co. which was all about pizza. Yum! We weren't too hungry, so we shared the breadsticks with olive oil dipping sauce and more beer of course. Delicious made to order breadsticks.

I went to Big woods around September. The pumpkin beer was fantastic! Just know they pour less than a regular bear because of how popular it is and there's a set amount brewed. Caution: if you sit outside, a bee may take a bath in your beer. Have no fear, they will see place it with another one.

Amazing food. I had the tuna tacos. My husband had the portobello burger, it was also well seasoned and perfectly grilled. The beers are cold and flavorful. This bar food has raised the bar!

If you read my review for Brown County State Park, you'll see that my intention after hiking was to get French onion soup from the Hob Nob. You really should try and do that, but my plan went awry a few weeks ago. We were in Nashville on a BEAUTIFUL Sunday, when lots of people were down and out to enjoy the lovely weather. We also got into town just as church let out. My belly didn't have the patience for the line outside the Hob Nob, so we went to Big Woods instead. It's a place we found at the end of our last trip (after we'd eaten), so we were happy to try lunch here. 1) They have a great porch with seating. 2) They use every single square inch of indoor space for seating that they can. It's tight. 3) Their pumpkin beer was very likely the best pumpkin beer I've had. Even my non pumpkin beer drinking husband loved it. 4) Their food was delicious. I had a burger. Husband had the pulled pork sandwich. They have a grill and a smoker out back (no kidding), where they grill and smoke the meat they serve. The kicked up cole slaw was indeed kicked up. Really good. I would avoid sitting on the short side of the bar, if you can help it. The bathroom door is at the back of that short side of the bar and people line up behind the barstools to get to it.

Where do I begin... my boyfriend and I discovered Big Woods about a year ago when visiting from Kansas City. Instantly, we fell in love with the place. The food is great and we love the beer. Since then, we've moved back to Indiana and continue to visit regularly. Every time we go, we enjoy the food/drinks/people/atmosphere. The servers/bartenders are always very friendly. The only downside is that you might have to wait awhile to get a seat since its a small place. But even while you wait, you can have some beer :) We're about to attend the first ever Quafftoberfest and I know it will be awesome. I love what Big Woods/Quaff ON! have done over the past year... easily a top brewer in Indiana!

Love the food and the creamy stout. We split the chicken asparagus sandwich and the pulled pork and couldn't decide which one we liked better! Place is a bit crowded but we were lucky to not have to wait.

A little off the main path this restaurant was a great place to grab lunch! It was packed which made me think it was going to be good, and boy it was! I had the Hoosier Ale, it was a red brew like a Killians, and my husband had the Pumpkin seasonal and both were great! We started with the pulled pork nachos which had a great BBQ flavor and shared the chicken fried rice which was surprisingly good for a brewery. We ate and drank every bit of what was set down. It's a very relaxed atmosphere and the service was good. I would definitely recommend trying it out if you're in Brown County!

Big Woods Brewing Company is affiliated with the Big Woods Pizza joint off the main drag in Nashville. The Big Woods Brewing Company is smaller, 21 years and over only, and located off of a side street. It's worth hunting for, however, because it has a great cozy atmosphere. I had the barbecue ribs special, which were tasty but not out of this world. They are cooked on the grill outside. What was out of this world, however, was EMILY'S GARDEN PIZZA, which was an olive-oil based white pizza with asparagus, tomato, spinach, mushroom, feta and mozzarella. Served on crisp crust, this pizza had a great balance of flavors, with none of them overpowering. There aren't a lot of seats here...there are only 8 tables inside plus bar seating, which makes it nice and toasty inside during the winter. If you have a party larger than two people you'll be waiting a while during prime time. Overall, it's a great choice in Nashville, worth a try.

I have never had a larger flight than the one I had at Big Woods, and I split it with my date. I wish I could tell you about the pizza I had in great detail, but I was so mesmerized by that extensive flight and all that craft beer. Bravo for going big, Big Woods!

Hm... I'm thinking that this is officially getting added to my top breweries list because of how delicious they are! Big Woods is in Nashville, Indiana, a little art colony village north of Bloomington that deserves a day trip on your next weekend off. The shops and restaurants are spectacular in themselves, but the star gem is Big Woods Brewing Company and Big Woods Pizza. Yellow Dwarf and Six Foot Blonde are two of my favorites, both being lighter and on the American Ale side of things, and they are even more phenomenal when partnered with their pizza! Buffalo chicken, barbeque, and the margherita pizzas are the closest to my dear heart of a stomach and I could polish one off whole if i had a stretchy pair of yoga pants on and no desire to be healthy. There you have it! Now, what are you waiting for?? Take off work, visit Nashville, and "Quaff on!" at Big Woods!

The food is a 5, the service is a 3 (based on multiple visits), so I'll split the difference and give 'em a 4. If you're not in a huge hurry, this is a GREAT place to stop in Nashville. The burgers are amazing, and they have GREAT beer. The servers are friendly, that's for sure, but if the house is more than 1/2 full, you should plan on a pretty good wait for your food, again, based on multiple visits. If I'm in town and have plenty of time, it's my go to place. If I'm in a rush, I'll choose somewhere else.

  • Sonya A.

I love me my Indiana beer and Big Woods is definitely in my top 3! Very smooth but still flavorful. I loved the red ale and the wheat. They do serve from a full menu in the Tap Room which is awesome! There are all sort of sandwhiches, apps, entrees on the menu so come with an appetite for beer and food. The live music was playing on the patio. Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 - Our server was awesome, he had such a good sense of humor! Location: 4/5 - Small and cozy.

Good beer, good food, good service! There are not a lot of options in Nashville, but this is a must stop. It is a nice spot to relax and enjoy the cold beer and fine food. Megan is a great server. Ask for her to be your server.

Food is wonderful. Beer is so so. Terrific relaxed ambience. Great wait staff. Unfortunately, the owner is from the East Coast and a jerk to locals. So we won't go here anymore.

  • Zack P.

This place is great! I had the Cross Hair double IPA- it was well crafted, hoppy like it should be and a great complex flavors, that complement well. The buffalo chicken pizza is extra spicy, huge chunks of chicken and lively onions. The pulled pork bbq pizza is amazing. The toppings are HUGE, worth the upcharge. The crust has a hand tossed feel- light and fluffy. The biggest thing this place has going for it is the staff- hospitable and VERY kind. They go the extra mile to make sure your experience is great.

What a cute hidden gem in the middle of Nashville, IN! I've been to Nashville many times but we had to follow the signs on buildings to get to the brewery which was just a little off of Main street. There's not a lot of room but you can tell that Big Woods Brewing is already outgrowing themselves. John and I came for the food and beer and we sat at the bar - a little uncomfortable as the chairs are not tall enough for the high bar, but it was decent considering we weren't planning on being there for hours. We ordered a flight that had samples from each of their brews (8 total, 7 house and 1 seasonal). Definitely do this, it's how I learned that the Hare Trigger IPA was my favorite, but the Hoosier Red was a close runner up. The menu reminds me of upscale bar food - burgers and chips, sandwiches, pizza, salads and then four high-end choices of teriyaki salmon and other pricer (and larger) entrees. I had the Busted Knuckle Burger which was one of the most tender, juicy burgers I've ever eaten. Swiss, Portabella mushrooms and a crisp but soft bun made me one happy eater. John ordered the pulled pork which is made daily and served with BBQ sauce on the side and garlic/horseradish on top. The Kicked-Up Slaw was just OK - it had a little bit of hit but had I known how mayo-ey and creamy it was I would have passed for chips. But if you like that sort of thing then you would love this slaw. The only downside is that they don't sell bombers of their brew in the brewery. You can go to the local IGA and pick some up before you head out of town.

Absolutely fabulous beer, food, and service! This is an absolute gem! I will fly back to Indiana for this brewery alone! Fantastic Beer: I had a tasting flight and tried 8 beers on tap. All of them were incredibly smooth and wonderfully enjoyable! Yellow dwarf wheat ale was awesome with light citrus notes. Six foot blonde ale had an unexpected flavor and was very enjoyable. It was surprisingly more flavorful than most blonde beers I've had. Timid virgin pale ale was a very light pale ale and is also very enjoyable. Hair trigger IPA was very smooth not bitter, but still had the grapefruit flavor, also very good. Hoosier red ale was fantastic and very smooth and quite sweet. Busted Knuckle was very enjoyable for a light brown ale. Stone head stout was amazing! It started with a coffee flavor that filled your mouth then transitioned to dark chocolate, and finally smoke. This was my favorite by far! All beers were incredibly smooth and quite enjoyable. Fabulous Food: We enjoyed everything we ordered so much! The buffalo wings were awesome. I am a wing fanatic, and these were great. They had such an enjoyable smokey spicy sweetness! They are not your standard buffalo sauce. They weren't as spicy, but they were savory and so flavorful! We also enjoyed the spinach dip wich was quite tasty, the pulled pork nachos, the spinach salad, and the Supreme Pizza. Finally, the blue cheese is absolutely amazing and home made! Service: The service was casual, but friendly, prompt, and courteous. Sarah French was our waitress and she was great! The price was also quite reasonable. The only downside was that parking was a little difficult.

Love this place!!! Went twice in one weekend. First got the ribs special, which was fall off the bone amazing! The sides were average (mashed potatoes pretty average & beans a little better with onions, bacon & green peppers). Husband got pulled pork burger and loved it. They don't have fries, which is a bummer. Second day we got the supreme pizza without pineapples, but it has everything else including pulled pork. Very good! Both days I got the Amber Ale because I like wheat beer. Husband got some IPA type, can't remember. He loved it too! Bought a glass for only $5.

There are two separate buildings, one is a restaurant mainly, and then the one I went to which is a bar where they serve the beer they make. Mmm, beer. It's pretty good beer. Looking forward to going back, and having more beer. =]

The food and beer is great but service is not. Waited over 30 minutes for our check and when we asked for it she got mad and told us to wait. The place wasn't even busy when we were there. In a side note the craft beers are great and pizza rocks.

We loved this place!! We went to Big Woods to get a beer to recover from a terrible experience at another restaurant. The bartender was Coach and he was awesome. His kindness and attention to detail made our experience wonderful. The beer was great! The app we got was great. Overall, the entire experience was fantastic. We will be back!

This is definitely a pleasant place to enjoy some comfort food and some nice craft beer. I decided that given a snowstorm hit, what better to do than drive 30+ miles to check out a brewery I've been threatening to go to for months. Perfect time, and no excuse not to. Nonetheless... The place was pretty packed, but we were able to get a seat. Seats are pretty close together, but not awkwardly close. The server was attentive, as well as more than happy to bring out samples for us to enjoy with our previously ordered pints. I enjoyed the beer. There were a few I'd have liked to see a little more kick with; but solid beer. They were out of the salmon (what my buddy ordered) but he seemed happy with his substitute. I chose to have a large boel of chili. It was pleasant. The view out the windows is pretty peaceful too. Oh yeah; and the heaters on the patio to allow folks more room to drink is always a plus. I'll definitely be back here from time to time, though it is a little out of my direct route of travel. Ill work on my excuses to head south...

Brown County is such an active area to visit, so it's cool to have a local brewery nearby to relax and have some casual beer + eats in. Great location, in the center of little Nashville, Indiana and just a short maybe 5 minute drive from the State Park! Quaff On! :)

I'm always wary of restaurant quality in tourist towns, but Big Woods came through nicely on both the on-site brewed ale my husband enjoyed, and both our pizzas. Highly recommend the alfredo sauce with chicken and bacon! Nice salad with fresh mixed greens, a good value for $4. Four stars because the service was a little slow, the pizzas are fairly pricy, and the noise level is horrifying. But all in all, a good experience.

This is a cozy little place just off of the main drag. Good selection of appetizers, sandwiches, pizza and other stuff. I had the vegetarian nachos with corn, black beans, jalapenos, onions, cheese and barbecue sauce. It was great! Would definitely get it again. My wife had the potato/cheese/bacon soup and found it tasty. She also had a greens salad, which was pretty basic except for the house made blue cheese dressing. We both had a beer from their craft beer selection. No wine is served. Our server, Lynda, was very sweet, friendly and attentive. Nice outdoor seating area. This is part of a larger set of Big Woods enterprises, including a place called the Big Woods Pizza Company. We will return the next time we are down there.

We stopped in for the first time recently and I was a little disappointed as I'd heard several people talk about how great their food is. I felt claustrophobic the entire meal as their tables and walking space is so crammed (as I was coming out of the bathroom, the door slammed into a customer's chair), the service was subpar and the portions for me and most of the people at my table were small. My burger was ok. Not anything to write home about it but nothing substantially wrong with it either. Generally an unimpressive experience.

Being a resident of Brown County I can say without reservation that both Big Woods locations are the jewels of Nashville. Pizza is always delicious and cheerfully served. The beer is fabulous. Busted Knuckle and Stone Head Stout are my husbands favorites, while I enjoy the Hoosier Red. Emily's Garden pizza is so good and really any entree is a winner at Big Woods. Don't be put off if there is wait time, it is really the best eats in Nashville.

We try to visit each time we come to Brown County because my husband enjoys the different beers that are available. Wine is also available. The staff is very friendly & knowledgeable. The food is good, the only thing available for a vegetarian is a salad. My husband loved the bacon-hamburger. I had the ahi tuna tacos. They were very good. I asked for the sauce on the side as I don't like food too spicy.

Wow, as many other reviewers have already done, I must use the word "gem" to describe Big Woods Brewing Company in Nashville. It's not on a main road, but follow the signs past the Big Woods pizza place, and you will find this gem. I got vegetarian nachos. I would just like to say that I was basically shocked to see this and a few other vegetarian things on the menu in a small town in southern Indiana. Shocked in a very good way. Now, the vegetarian nachos aren't exactly healthy and don't include many "vegetables" per se, but they were truly the best nachos I've ever had. I would've never thought to put barbecue sauce on nachos, but it was a win! Other pluses include the fantastic service, cozy décor (despite the dead animal heads on the walls - not a huge fan of those, but everything else outweighs that annoyance), and craft beer that the boyfriend enjoyed. The prices were reasonable, too. If I come back to this charming town again, I will likely make a stop at Big Woods again too.

My boyfriend and I take a weekend trip to Brown County 2-3 times a year (from Indy) and this place is a staple of that trip. We each start with a flight of beer followed by dinner. I've had a few of their dinner specials (all very well executed), but I am a sucker for nachos and their pulled pork BBQ nachos are the best. I wish they had more seating - especially as busy as BC can get on a nice weekend. Since it is a brewery people like to sit and chat while ordering beer after beer (myself included) but this begins to impede on the fact that patrons are waiting for a table for lunch or dinner. We usually head there for a late dinner which helps with this conundrum. Excited for our next visit and dreamy of their nachos until then...

Big Woods is going to be a staple in Nashville, IN, for some time. My wife and I stopped in for a late night beer and snack. We were one of maybe three groups in the establishment at the time. Our waitress was great and described the beers to us. I went with the Hoosier Red and my wife got the Knuckle Buster. Their special brew was the Chocolate Milk Stout. Now I like chocolate milk and I like beer...but some things shouldn't be combined. We placed our order for the pulled pork nachos and awaited our beverages. Our waitress first brought out samples of the Chocolate Milk Stout. I was surprised how good it was! Now it wouldn't go with pizza or nachos, but the beer was very well made. The beers we ordered were great as well. The nachos arrived and we dug in! Son, we tore them bad boys up. The pork is perfectly smoked and would stand alone. We got the large and it was plenty for both of us. I've enjoyed the pizza in the past, but it's been too long for me to write about it. I'll be sure to update this review when I dine here again. There are so many good options for food in Nashville, but if you have a hankering for some beer...especially craft beer, check Big Woods out.

The beer was the best I've had in a long time. I didn't even mind the IPA and I usually hate IPA. The brewery is small. We were crammed against the window and could hardly maneuver around to get to the restroom. The atmosphere is casual, our waitress was friendly, but the hostess rubbed me the wrong way. We ordered the pulled pork nachos which were good, but nachos make me mad. Not every chip has all the good stuff on it! But the chips that did have the good stuff were super good. I bet the atmosphere is a lot more fun in the summer or spring when it's warm. They have a porch with heaters on it and some people were braving the cold, and they looked surprisingly warm! I'd go back for the beer, Maybe with a smaller group, though. Definitely not a place for large parties!

Awesome place for beer and the best grilled wings I've ever had! Order them naked with triple threat on the side. Yum! I had the Hoosier Red beer. It is very pleasant with a smoky finish. This is the best place in Nashville!

This is our go-to tradition in Brown County! Great pizza, great beer, GREAT service! Love how the chef brings the kids a piece of dough to play with during the wait! The growlers-to-go are a hit too!!!

Follow the signs and you will end up at this gem! Not to be confused with Big Woods Pizza, which is around the corner. We were told there was a 15-20 minute wait, but after seeing a plate of food go by, we decided it was worth it. You have to be 21 to be on the premises, and while you wait you can order beers on tap. This place came highly recommended from locals, and I was told the pulled pork nachos were the "bomb". I'm not a nachos fan, but I did indulge with the pulled pork sandwich with kettle chips. I was not led astray, perfect balance of smokey and sweet once sauce was added. This place has a small ski town brewery feel, cozy, warm. Patio seating is heated in the winter, and just right with a coat. I will be returning my next venture to brown county...

This brew pub blows away a any competition in town. The food is great & very fresh. You can tell that everything is made to order. There's even a grill master standing to the side of the building! Try anything with pulled pork; they smoke their own. The menu has a great variety! But, how cool is it to have a microbrewery in little Nashville, IN? Take a tour of their brewery on a Saturday afternoon & enjoy a sampler of all their beers afterwards! The atmosphere is fun & energetic & you can tell this is THE place to be in town. Quaff on!

I was elated to be able to sit outside and breathe in the local air. Fabulous. We've tried the Busted Knuckle at our own local watering hole and we were not disappointed by drinking it at the source. I highly recommend the pork nachos. The large is more than enough to share. The BBQ sauce is sweet and the jalapeños are fresh and zesty. We were anticipating greatness in the black bean burger based on the menu description. Sorry to say that its beauty was the only appealing part of it. It definitely needs more spices and was terribly bland. Enjoy this spot. We loved the company and the charm. Service was top notch.

Busted Nuckle is hands down my favorite beer right now, so a visit here is always good. The food selection is typical of an upscale bar atmospere. Actually feel there food is pretty good. I have met 2 of the owners and a great group of guys. Make sure you try pumpkin ale and there Santa brew. I heard they have a ginger bread beer coming out soon

Atmosphere was incredible. Food was fabulous. I had the pulled pork and the kicked up coleslaw. Chris had the mushroom swiss burger. Scratch kitchen; food was extremely fresh and seasoned perfectly. In the brewery no kids, but there is a pizza parlor that allows the kids. Pizzas look very delicious with nice thin crust with substantial toppings. Salads looked great also. Now for the beers. Chris had the Hare trigger IPA... nice happy beer. I sampled the busted knuckle and it was very nice with some Carmel ly deep notes. I settled on the six foot tall blonde (I'm a weeny when it comes to beers)... very nice light beer. Was cold and went down very fast and smooth.

I drove 3.5 hours to go here, only to be told they were out of their signature beer, Busted Knuckle. This is in my top 3 ales. It was on a Saturday at 1:00pm and I waited 30 minutes to get a table, only to be extremely disappointed. The least they could of done was let people know about this before waiting so long. The most they could of done was give me one on the house.

Sal and I both got the beer flight of eight 5 oz pours for ten bucks each. We probably should have shared, but it kept us merry for touring Brown County a little more. We split the chicken wings that was a mix of all three of their wing sauces and watched the semi final of the Soccer World Cup and had a great seat at the bar. It's a friendly little brewery right in the middle of town, no one under the age of 21 is allowed inside though!

Thank god we found this place , The hand crafted beers are outstanding , wife and I have visited at least 100 micro brewers in the last 10 years. their wheat beer has moved to the very top of my list.we had a vegtable nachos, sounds weird but the naco's have sothwestern favors with corn, blackbean, chives ,onions, tomatoes and a house barbeque sauce great flavors would have never thought about southwestern items on nachos' wow.if your in Nashville Indiana ( brown county ) you have to drop in for a well crafted beer and nacho's or pizza I hear their famous for them.

Whether you are from around the Nashville area or not you should plan a trip to the area and circle Big Woods Brewery as one of your main events. In a quiet cozy little rustic town, Big Woods Brewery brings everything to love about Little Nashville. Their small yet excellent selection of homemade brews will make you forget all about your typical domestic and foreign drafts. Their New York style hand tossed pizza stands on it's own against just about any big town pizzeria. The menu is a one page front and back map of perfection, sure to leave your taste buds satisfied and then some. The service is second to none. They greet you with a smile and ensure your experience at Big Woods is a great one. This establishment is a well kept secret and a great representation of the town and it's people. Do yourself a favor and make this a must top on your summer adventures.

We would always stop in here during a ride to Nashville. Great beers and the pulled pork nachos rock. Now we live in the area and enjoy stopping in for a beer and the nachos more often. If in the area a must stop!

Best place to enjoy great beer and food in Nashville! I'm so happy that they are opening a location in Bloomington. This is my go-to place every time I'm visiting Brown County or just passing through, as the rest of the restaurant and bar options in Nashville are pretty underwhelming. My favorite thing about this place (aside from the beer) is the rustic and cozy atmosphere. It kind of reminds me of bars I've been to in Asheville, NC that have that free-spirited, woodsy vibe.

Loved this place. They have great servers and we accidentally found out about the Rally in the Alley they hosted on the Saturday before St. Patty's day. The food was good, they had a special menu for St Pat's day and green beer. The BBQ pork nachos were recommended by a local shop owner and were good, I would add a little more melted cheese. The Irish stew was perfect, made with Guinness. I'll definitely go back!

I LOVE this place. Their beer, their people. their detail to how local craft beer needs to be. A perfect balance of harmony, happiness, and hops! Their Big Woods Pulled Pork BBQ Nachos are the best nachos on the planet. Trust me. Their beer is great. I love the Yellow Dwarf Wheat. I could honestly say it is a beer I could drink everyday. The staff is amazing. They cater to every need or want you might have. Friendly to a fault. I feel that everybody they hire is screened to make sure they are kind, respectful, and beer knowledgeable! The location is small, but the atmosphere is TERRIFIC. If I had the money, I would model my bar after this place. You have to be 21 and over to eat here, so no kids. I am a father and I 100% agree with this. They have an amazing place called Big Woods Pizza ( bigwoodspizza.com ) that caters to the whole family. Worth checking out! Go here. Stop thinking about it and just go. Have a flight of beer with your spouse or a friend and sit back and relax. QUAFF ON!

It's hard to find good food in Nashville. Arts and crafts? Those are easy to come by. Candles and pottery? Everywhere. We find that often businesses in Nashville close early (if they are even open at all) -- so it was nice to find a restaurant serving decent food at good prices late into the evening. Plus, Big Woods brews their own beer! (note: no liquor here, just beer) Most of the food we sampled was average but for sure, we enjoyed BW's pizza. We ordered "Emily's Garden" -- a white pie with spinach, mushroom, tomatoes, black olives, squash, mozzarella and feta cheese. The veggies were super fresh and the thin crust had a great crunch. The feta was a light dusting -- not overly salty or pungent at all. The server brought me some various beer samples to help me make up my mind -- both of us LOVED all the beer we drank. There was also live music the night we dined here. In closing -- a 3 star restaurant for sure, but given the competition, I'd rate Big Woods a 4 for overall dining experience.

Very good vegetarian selections. We had the spinach artichoke dip app that was delicious. My boyfriend got the beer flight with all of the beers avail on tap. He liked the seasonal strawberry blonde the most. For a meal I had the black bean burger that was pretty good and my boyfriend and friend shared the BBQ pizza that they liked. My boyfriend thought the BBQ sauce was a little too sweet but otherwise fine. All in all a very nice dining experience.

Location: 5 out of 5 Nasvhille has a cute feel to it, and it's really not that far away from the northern entrance of Brown County State Park. Parking may be tricky depending on your mode of transportation, as Big Woods does not have a dedicated parking lot. You can find paid lots, or if you are on a motorcycle as I was, you can park on the street in between cars because the marked spaces are HUGE! Service: 5 out of 5 What a high point of my visits to this place. I first showed up at around 12:15 local time, and was greeted warmly by one of the waitstaff. He was apologetic in letting me know that there would be a slight wait, but did direct me towards an outdoor waiting area that they had set up with portable heaters that day (it was chilly). Upon being seated in the bar area, the bartender was the perfect mix of local charm and genuine hospitality. Leveraged against the fact that the Colts were playing on TV, thus leading to a very large crowd in the restaurant and a very heavy workload, I was appreciative of the way that she took care of all the customers that were sitting in here area. I went back later for dinner, and the young lady that served me at my high top table was equally as friendly, polite, and had a very nice sense of humor. I noticed that during the time I was dining for lunch and dinner, one of the proprietors was in the restaurant, talking to all of the customers. What a great time I had when I asked if I could see the brewing operation, and he said, "sure!" and took me on an impromptu tour of the buildings across the street/alley. Quality of beer: 4 out of 5 Although I will freely admit that I don't like all types of beers, I do find it helpful to try as many as I can when I'm traveling to local breweries. Big Woods had a palette of 7 types of beer to try, and I'm glad that I had a chance to do so. At the time of my visit (Columbus Day weekend, 2012), they had 2 different IPAs: an American style and a more mellow variety. I liked both very much, and I would even venture to say that patrons out there who are usually intimidated by IPAs because of IBUs won't be overwhelmed by either of these varieties. Their flagship called Busted Knuckle was delicious, and is described as a hybrid ale, similar to a "light" porter. I don't care they want to call it, but it was smooth, had great malty characteristics, but wasn't too "chewy" or "dense" like one might expect. If I were to skip any beer on the tasting menu, it would be their Six Foot Blonde; note that this is a personal preference, because there may be those of you out there who enjoy blonde ales very much so. Their wheat beer was awesome - not too citrusy but still crisp and light. Lastly, and I don't know if I skipped one because it's been awhile - but the seasonal amber ale (almost/kinda-but-not-really like a Marzen) was my favorite. Great malt characteristics with noticeable alcohol content, but well rounded in taste and mouthfeel to a point that I didn't really notice any alcohol harshness. One note - they don't filter any of their beers (see my pics) so just because the beer may look hazy doesn't mean it tastes funny. Quality of food: 4 out of 5 Two words: pulled pork. I don't know how to tell North Cackalacky this - but the pulled pork that Big Woods serves is superior to both eastern NC, as well as Piedmont style, pulled pork. There, I said it, and I stand behind what I said. I can't describe what the pulled pork here tastes like; I can only proffer that it was tender, juicy, well seasoned, and stood up extremely well on its own with no sauces or even moisture providing agents. Truth. The stout chili I had was tasty and well seasoned, I just wish it were slightly thicker and not as watery, and the buffalo wings I'm pretty sure had some grilled sear marks on them that in conjunction with the spicy hot sauce - was fantastic. Interestingly - they offer fried rice as a side dish (or a main dish too, I think) which has bacon, carrots, eggs, and onion in it. It probably wouldn't pass my parents' seal of approval of authenticity, but man did it taste good as a side dish on a cold fall day. Their menu also includes burgers and other sandwiches, pizza, pasta, heavy apps, and some salads. Vegetarians will have no problems finding something(s) good to eat. Price: 3.5 out of 5 Pints ranged from 4 to 6 bucks, sandwiches were about 10 bucks each. Not expensive, and probably commensurate with what you'd find in the Nashville area as a whole. Overall: 4 out of 5 A very strong 4 out of 5 (more like a 4.4), and definitely a high point of my most recent trip to the Brown County area. The brewery and restaurant are extremely resourceful and clever in how they do things (ask for a tour, you'll see what I mean), and the overall restaurant interior is inviting.

I'm just reviewing the brews, didn't have any food here yet. I had a red ale and it was quite tasty. My boyfriend had the IPA and didn't care for it as much as some others. I tried it and was glad I ordered the beer I did. I'm looking forward to going back again and trying their stout and have lunch! The outside seating is very nice and a great place to relax after doing all the walking and shopping around the area!

This place is wonderful. It's got a lot of charm and looks like a log cabin from the inside. The staff is very friendly and moves around quickly to get the food out to you in a timely manner. All the ingredients are fresh and tasty. The crust is good, the sauce is good. All around I really enjoy everything I've had here. Even the salads were surprisingly fancy, fresh, and delicious. This is unusual for your typical pizza joint. They certainly elevate the food beyond a basic pizza place. They have a great beer selection including some they make themselves and even draft root beer. The bathrooms have chirping bird sounds in them, which is a funny surprise.

All of these fucking places are listed as American (New). That is a lie. What is not a lie, is that this place has some pretty great beers. And sliders - that I got to go. I had one of their IPAs, which got me sufficiently buzzed. For a tiny town like Nashville, not bad motherfuckers. Also, met some screenplay writer from Evansville who lived in Manhattan for 8 years. Cool! I'm visiting from Brooklyn. Also also, got a real real dirty look from one of the guys who works here. Like, a look that says - "Get out o' ma cuntry town ya fuckin faggot." Here's some advice for you - I don't dress like a "fuckin faggot." I dress "fuckin hipsta that betta than u." I'm no homo. Well, actually, homo.

Man, do I ever just love this place! Best beer in the world, no. Best food in the world, no. One of the coolest places anywhere, yes. There is just something about the charm of Nashville, be it hokey or be it cartoonish. Something simply is wonderful about getting away to the back hills of Indiana and realizing it is only an hour or so south of our beloved Carmel. Sitting back in a rustic environment enjoying a delicious stout, and packing up your growlers to haul back to Sweetwater Lake. Go there today, honestly.

After checking a ton of reviews and much debate about where to have dinner tonight we decided (after all the great reviews we had read) to walk down to Big Woods Brewery and are we glad we did! It was amazing! It was very busy but we didn't have to wait long for a table. Our waitress, Miriam, was so attentive and fantastic. I had the Pumpkin Stout seasonal brew -- it was phenomenal! We started with the chips and salsa (very good). My hubby had the BBQ pork nachos which he said were wonderful, and I had the house special of BBQ ribs, mac-n-cheese (done in a white cheese sauce -- delish) and a combination of roasted rutabaga and cauliflower. I have the say they were the best ribs I've ever had! No sauce needed and they fell off the bone! We will not hesitate to eat here again -- in fact, we can't wait!

I don't enjoy writing bad reviews. In fact, I truly enjoy giving proper credit to establishments that truly deliver in customer delight. This is not such a review. Have you ever entered a restaurant only to discover you have to wait... You know, wait in that "unhappy place" where hungry people sit with their families, waiting for someone to recognize that they, too, are human and deserve the love and recognition we all angst for? Now imagine that unhappy place is filled with people waiting upwards if an hour. Not a pretty site right??? NOW- imagine going into a place named Big Woods Brewing (the kinda place that makes AND sells beer) and being asked to leave the BAR area so the restaurant patrons don't feel like the place is too crowded... And being promptly moved to the unhappy place to enjoy our beers with a dozen hungry, unhappy souls sitting on hard wooden benches. WTF??? I know of no other place that would ask anyone to leave their bar area, where their real profits are made, to sit out in a place intended to hold people already disappointed with their experience. The beer was indeed good and the serve did what she could to make me feel better about her manager's poor handling of a situation. That said, the setup and attention to customer service is nothing short of sad. Zero points for effort.

The pale ale tasted of garlic and bleach. Completely unpalatable. We both hoped this was an anomaly and maybe something was wrong with that batch. We ordered the flight of 7 and were just really underwhelmed overall. I think we've been spoiled by Indy's craft brews. The wit and stout weren't bad but didn't stand out as "good" either. We didn't order any food but noticed a guy cooking meat on a grill...a nice touch. Server was friendly but she didn't bother to tell groups which beer was which in the flights, just sat them down and walked away. I love the look of this place though...very rustic looking. Hopefully one day I'll make it back down and can try some food and give the beers another shot.

I love their Busted Knuckle beer! Why it costs more than the others, I don't know. Supply and demand? I want it enough that I'll pay more to be supplied it? Hmm, that's probably true. I have sampled all of their beers and have particularly liked their red, wheat, and black wheat. I've been here several times, sometimes for food and beer, sometimes just for beer. Service has varied dramatically, based on how busy it is and who your server is. At times, the server has acted completely inconvenienced by having to serve me. I come back despite the spotty service because 1) the beer is good (see above), 2) the food is delicious with lots of vegetarian options, and 3) What is more satisfying after a long day of mountain biking at Brown County State Park than a pint of beer?

We checked this place out after zip lining near Nashville. The place has a nice ambiance and initial impressions were good. It was a bit of a wait for a table but it was a Friday night so that is expected. We sat in the "bull pen" waiting for a table and were served some beer pretty quickly. We both got the Hare Trigger IPA and it was very tasty. We were seated in the bar area, which is pretty small. We ordered and were served food quickly. We got the chips and salsa to begin. The chips are the blue corn and the salsa was pretty spicy, which I like. I ordered the Pulled Pork BBQ Nachos. I ordered the small order and I still couldn't finish them all. They were amazing. I wasn't sure about the BBQ sauce on nachos when ordering but it really was perfect! The meal had fresh jalapeno's on it so watch out for those if you don't like hot stuff. I ate most of them and tried not to cry at the table. (I wished I would've ordered a water beforehand but the waitress was quick at getting one for me.) My hubby had the pulled pork BBQ sandwich with the spicy coleslaw. He enjoyed his meal and it was plenty of food. Overall, we had a great meal and service. They were very, very busy but our waitress was attentive and fast. We will return! My only complaint: The tables, while they are pretty, are not good for people with long legs. The fancy woodwork takes up any legroom space. I'm 5'3" and I was cramped. My hubby is 6'4" and he had to sit pretty awkwardly to fit.

Wow, what a pulled pork sandwich, their burgers are pretty awesome as well. I can't really speak for the rest of the food as we did not have any other food. Now on to the beer, let us just say this was my reason for wanting to go here in the first place. I took my seat at the bar with my girlfriend ordered the large flight of beers and man what a carefully orchestrated ballet of malt and hops graced our palates. My favorite was the Hare Trigger IPA, the bonus was the pulled pork sandwich.

When this place came into view down a narrow alley off the main drag, I felt like one of those heat-delirious, joy-maddened cartoon characters who, after crawling through a punishing desert, finds an oasis of lush foliage and beguiling harem girls. The dining scene in Nashville is beyond dreadful, and I had nearly given up hope of anything approaching a decent meal when we spotted Big Woods--a modern (if, er, woodsy) brewpub tucked away near the far (eastern) end of the downtown strip. They have a tiny dining room, so we waited a few minutes for a table, eschewing the outdoor seating. It would be nice out there in cooler weather, but we'd been baked in the late-June sun all day and appreciated the air conditioning. The inside was very handsome, though. I loved the entire aesthetic, and the chairs in particular; on a table tent were listed all the artisans who had contributed to the construction and decoration of the place. Nice touch, I thought. First things first: I'm sorry to say that their beer is terrible. The blonde shouldn't even have been served, as the waitress told us up front that it "wasn't ready yet." It was thin and metallic, yuck. The pale ale was better but still a weak effort. The Busted Knuckle Red came out looking like a stout, which the waiter warned, but I was still shocked. If this is a red ale, their stout must look like motor oil. I didn't bother to find out. I'm happy to report, however, that the food was delicious, to my mild surprise. My ladyfriend and I shared the tasty spinach and artichoke dip, which contained huge chunks of artichokes and was not overly creamy. I had the pulled-pork sandwich and spicy cole slaw, and both were top-notch. And finally, I can't resist describing my experience with the bathroom. 1. There is no lock on the door. Trust me, I looked EVERYWHERE. It's a single, unisex restroom for the entire bar, and there is no lock on the door. How long has this place been open? Are they still waiting for the door guy to come and install the lock? There was a dude perched on a stool at the bar directly in front of the restroom door, so perhaps he's a regular stationed to gatekeep the facilities? It doesn't help that the toilet is directly beside the door, so if someone barges in, you have zero potential to turn yourself or to stuff your piece back into your pants. 2. There are several "bathroom books" on the back of the toilet. Some of them even admit it on their covers (The Big Bathroom Book of Jokes, et al). And these books have been used. VERY well-used...or ill-used, perhaps. I mean, rumpled and dog-eared. Ew. 3. There is a framed, signed photograph of...Sir Sean Connery. Highlander-era Sean Connery. I couldn't make out the dedication, but that adds to the mystique, I feel. Is it possible that Sean Connery has actually visited BFE Indiana and eaten at Big Woods Brewing Company? Perhaps one of the owners met him long ago? Family heirloom? Bought on Ebay? Of all the things to find in a restaurant john in the middle of nowhere, that has to be possibly THE most unexpected. Of course it adds immensely to the charm.

As a vegetarian, when I travel I rarely expect to find good veg options on the menu. Especially in the midwest. And most places that have a veggie burger, just nuke a Morningstar farms patty and call it a day. The black bean burger here has to be one of the best ones I have ever had and it is hand made. They also have a portabella option was was great as well. Great beer and a great veggie burger. Place will be packed on the weekends, so be prepared, but worth the wait. Vegetarians and vegans wanting great craft beers and food, you are good to go!

My husband and I visited Big Woods in January '12 and Mom and I stopped today for a quick beer. We ordered the cheese dip with tortilla chips and, oh man! it was lick the bowl good. The chef was willing to share the recipe. I ordered a beer and it was okay but the IPA that was more my style was out. The brew master happened to be sitting at the bar eating and walked next door to the pizza place, got an IPA and said 'Compliments of the house'. One of the owners, the brew master, the bartenders - all were cheerful and friendly and my one quick beer turned into two pints and several tastings of other brews. This small brew pub is a little gem down a one way alley in Tourism City Indiana.

This place rocks! We had the rib special and BBQ nachos and they were both great. Some of the best ribs I've ever had! The Busted Knuckle beer is just great! Try this place...you'll love it!

Long Story Short: Bring adult diapers So here's my (long) story of this place. I was there last Fall, and the place was packed... I was with a group of 4 and we were told it would be a 45 min wait... no big deal, this place must be cool and worth the wait... we put our name on the list, go wander around town and come back about 40 min later... we wait another 15 min and get "upgraded" to the waiting area (not on the street) where we can drink beer. It sucked that it was crowded and we didn't have a table yet... but I had my beer, and I was happy. After I was half way through my busted knuckle, we got a table on the crowded deck and put in an order for food and appetizers. Half way though my second beer I had to piss (beer does that to me). I was patiently waiting behind 5 ladies to use the one-person bathroom when I see my waiter walk by with my appetizer. I'm starving and decide I can hold it a bit longer (praying that the bathroom line will diminish by the time I finish the spinach artichoke dip) and I head back to my table. I finish the spinach artichoke dip, drink some more of my beer... OK, I *really* gotta go now. I'm now waiting behind 3 guys and 5 women. The line is LONGER. Great. 10 min later The guy behind me gives up and decides to find a public restroom down the street. I keep waiting... I'm now down to 4 people in front of me... and I see my waiter walk by with my dinner. But I'm half way through the line, this is the point of no return, I *must* go! The bathroom was neat, but after waiting as long as I did, I didn't really care about the nick nacks on the wall. It was business time, and there were 7 people behind me as misrable as I was not long ago. By the time I got back to my table (on the deck), my pulled pork sandwich was cold. Fantastic. I loved the atmosphere, the staff was great, my friends loved their (warm) food, I enjoyed the beer... but why the hell is there only 1 toilet in this place? How is that even cool with the local building code? I'm sorry but that just ruined my whole experience there. If I ever go back, it will be with the mental preparedness to piss on the side of the building if necessary.

I always love visiting Big Woods.I found them in the alley purely by mistake last year and was surprised by the atmosphere/food and great beer. A nice contrast to the "milk them for all you can get "places common to Nashville. The 6 Foot Blonde IPA was a huge hit with my party and I always love the Busted Knuckle Red ale. Seating is at a premium but there is an outdoor area. The bathroom features a chalkboard that everyone writes on. And the door DOES lock. And my Yelp app did NOT find it so I could check in.

The best thing about this place is the beer--very good craft beer. Having said that, the food was good too--once we asked for some modifications. For instance, the french onion soup a friend had was very good--but needed more broth. The pulled pork sandwich was amazing--when you added more barbecue sauce. Just the little things--but the waitress did a very good job keeping us happy! It's just a block over from some of the shops downtown Nashville is known for--so leave time for shopping!

Adorable. Fun. GREAT service. Got acknowledged right away. Was asked to sit tight while they wipe down a table. Lots of people - good activity for a 3 pm on a Friday. Got a great table with a great server. She was fabulous. Talked us through everything from our big flight of brews to our appetizer choice. Very attentive. When we asked for a local place to stop at (popcorn place) she was very honest said she just moved to town and didn't know but she would ask. Followed through and made our stay fabulous. We scarfed up our buffalo beef nachos and drank our brews in time to hit our spa appointment at 5. Life was certainly good at the Big Woods Brewing Co. My best friend can spot a brewery a thousand miles away - great suggestion on her part and I would totally go back again. It was a blast. No wonder it was packed!

Great place. Great atmosphere. Service was wonderful. The staff seemed like family. Didn't have any food, but it smelled delish and the people who were around commented on how good it was. Out of the 6 or 7 beers they had on tap we really liked 2 of them. Will report later and tell you what those are. BTW, they only serve beer and go figure only the breweries. :-)

I'm not going to poo-poo on someone's all-American dream of owning a brew pub, but this place is nothing special. I admit, I am a beer snob, hard to please and probably wasn't in the best mood ever after being sat a dirty table, and then getting attitude from the waitress after waiting several minutes to get a menu or our drinks. I probably should have left, but I am persistent and wanted to try the place---after all it was recommended by a local and I wanted to see what the hubbub was. We ordered a Busted Knuckle Red Ale and a Big Wood's Stout. Like I said, I'm a beer snob and I just wasn't impressed. The Red Ale tasted like that Red Ale kit you get at a home brewery supply--generic at best. It didn't leave me satisfied and when I delved into the Stout, I wanted my mommy. Like not in a good way, but because I wanted a hug to let me know that craft brewing hadn't become so homogenized that flavor no longer mattered. We stayed and suffered through our rude waitress, over priced hamburgers (the meat was dry and flavorless) and as my husband put it, "well,it's better than budweiser" beers. I'm not sure he was right, but I'm hoping from the rest of the reviews that this was a complete anomaly or that these folks get to a quality brew pub and fast so they know what they need to expect from their local watering hole.

Fantastic find here - right off of the main strip in Nashville, Indiana... these folks have spent the time to make their food and beers worthwhile. It's a great place to sit outside and relax after doing your shopping in Nashville. I recommend the blonde or the IPA, both stellar beers.

Big Woods is our favorite place to eat in Nashville. In fact, it's probably one of our Top 5 places to eat--period! We normally eat here 3-4 times a month. So I feel like I really have a lot of dining experience here and am well-qualified to leave a review. First of all, yes the bathroom door locks. And the bathroom is always clean! The beer is great! They did have a little trouble getting everything adjusted when they first opened, but we always have a great beer when we come. I have tried them all, and frankly, it is very difficult for me to pick which one is my favorite! Also, they come out with a new beer every so often, which adds to my dilemma! But folks, it's a microbrewery. So just enjoy the individuality and personality of the beer! Nashville is very tight with their liquor licenses, so you can only get the beer they brew. But that's the fun part--it get's you out of your Budweiser-rut! The food is great! I have no clue what the other review was talking about--again we eat here often. The cheeseburgers on the grill are so good, that my husband never orders anything else. I like to try everything on the menu, and I think I have. I love it all! My favorite is the pulled pork nachos--which are a first-timer's must have!!! The black bean burgers are a very tasty vegetarian option. I have never had a bad or boring pizza there. The staff and owners are great! We always have great service and the atmosphere is very friendly. We have brought a lot of friends here and sent a lot of friends here and they have all had positive experiences as well. I could go on and on, but I'm getting very hungry and hoping that my husband gets home soon so we can go there for dinner tonight!

First off, let me start with what brought 6 college students 40 minutes out of their way to Nashville, IN to Big Woods Brewing Company on a Sunday afternoon. It was an atypical Saturday night that resulted in a widespread case of serial hangovers. The remedy, for this dilemma was to go Big Woods for some Sunday beers and some good food. Having never been there before I thoroughly enjoyed the quaint patio seating and natural lodge look to the building. My compadres and I decided to sit outside and ordered a round of Busted Knuckle drafts, which were great. As someone who likes to drink IPAs, I found myself favoring the Hare Trigger more than the previous beer but both were above average. The Hare Trigger had a slightly less bitter taste, was more smooth and paired with my main dish well. The melodic tunes of John Cougar Mellencamp serenaded us while we sat, drank and reminisced on the previous night's festivities. It was a brisk 38 degrees so the patio heaters were on. This one heater in particular was making a hissing sound that stoked our already, very prominent headaches so our friend Jeffrey decided to turn it off altogether. I ordered a Spicy Bacon Ranch Cheeseburger with kickin' cole slaw. It was magical. If I kept rankings for the best cole slaws I've ever had in my life, this would be top 3 - No contest. My fellow diners also enjoyed their chili (huge bowl for the money), the pulled pork nachos (creative, yet delicious) and the Big Woods Burger, which my less articulate friend described as only "good." Overall, I would rate this place a perfect 5/5 because I received great food, great beer and a complete hangover cure. The only thing that could have affected this perfect rating was hearing JCM's "I need a lover" twice in one sitting. However, this really embraced the heart of Indiana and I let it slide. Additionally, my friends vacillated between adding value to my day and making socially awkward comments. The great, small town vibe this place gave off makes it one of my favorite places to enjoy a lazy Sunday and libations with some pals.

Best meal so far in Brown County. Great atmosphere...we sat on the patio...awesome service. I had pulled pork nachos, and hubby opted for pulled pork sandwich. The horseradish on his sandwich gave it an unexpected, yet pleasant, zing. Salad was great as well. Nice selection of beer if you're into that (which I am not.). If you are over 21 you should definitely check this place out. It's a hidden gem!!

DO NOT PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD! They added 20 bucks extra tip to my tab, and 1000 bucks to my friends tab! Visa removed the tab, but still not a great experience. For a micro brewery they didn't really perfect there craft. The best beer was the IPA, the others were just drinkable. Food not great either, had a curry soup that was bad, and burger that left me unsatisfied.

So with nothing else in town open we picked the one place we could find open for dinner past 8. We had some micro brew beer, Busted Knuckle was surprisingly good, that is coming from a Bud only drinker. The blonde was not bad either. Food was good but not anything great. I have a feeling the cook can probably do better if given a chance to change up the menu. I would love to see fresh pretzels and beer cheese, not frozen pretzels and nacho cheese. Pizza was ok, crust could be improved on. Pork nachos I had high hopes for and they definitely have a different taste, less cheese and more sauces(whatever they are). I will say the thing I liked the most about the place was the employees. The bartenders are extremely friendly and make the night much more enjoyable, or maybe it was just the Busted Knuckle, either way it was a place I would return to again.

Four stars might be a bit of a stretch for Big Woods; I would have given it 3 1/2 if I could. I thought the food here was excellent. The Zesty Pulled Pork BBQ Nachos rank as some of the best nachos I have eaten. The smoked pork, the spicy corn, and the drizzle of peppercorn ranch and BBQ sauce over the top made for a delicious, creative, and unique take on this most hallowed of appetizers. We built our own pizza with pepperoni, green peppers, and banana peppers. The crust was thin and crispy, the cheese was abundant, and the sauce was pretty darn good for a brew-house pizza. We sat on the porch for several hours to sit out the rain; I found the staff to be extremely attentive and friendly the entire time we were there. It doesn't appear that there is much seating inside, but the outside porch provides a very relaxing atmosphere. The reason I hesitate to give Big Woods four stars is that the beer is actually quite bad. The pale ale had a strange fruity quality to it, and the stout was imperceptible in taste and identity. The Busted Knuckle Red Ale was the only halfway drinkable beer that I tried, although it was overly malty to the point that it tasted more like a stout than a red ale. They were somehow out of the other styles of beer when we were there, but given the quality of what I tried, I doubt that I was missing out on much. I will come back for the food and atmosphere, but it mystifies me how a micro brewery can serve such good food but craft such lousy beer.

A terrific place! Great beers, friendly staff, excellent food! John and Danny even gave me a tour of the brewery. The pulled pork nachos and burgers are terrific. Tucked away in a lane off of the main drag, this small but wonderful restaurant can't be beat.

Good beers but not great. Unless you like to try micro brews, it's not your place. My wife and I had 3 different beers, which were all very good. We also tried the Pulled Pork Nachos which were fantastic. The service was also excellent. We went there in the late afternoon so we did not experience the evening crowd.

We waited outside in the cold for a very long time, but it was totally worth the wait. The food was delectable, the beer superb. It is definitely the go-to place for pub grub and brews in Nashville.

I came here on my first trip to Nashville. We ordered a pizza and I was not very impressed with it at all. We did get a beer flight though which I would go back and do again. Our server was very friendly and I liked the all wood interior of the restaurant.

There are two separate buildings, one is a restaurant mainly, and then the one I went to which is a bar where they serve the beer they make. Mmm, beer. It's pretty good beer. Looking forward to going back, and having more beer. =]

  • Rick G.

Quaff On! :)

If I don't get my weekly fix of pulled pork nachos (extra sauce, natch) and 6' blondes (w/ an orange slice bc..vitamins y'all), then I start turning into Hulk. Nuff said.

Adorable.

Good beers but not great. Unless you like to try micro brews, it's not your place. My wife and I had 3 different beers, which were all very good. We also tried the Pulled Pork Nachos which were fantastic. The service was also excellent. We went there in the late afternoon so we did not experience the evening crowd.
