A great addition to Muncie dining options, worth a trip in for those of you from elsewhere. It is downtown in a space once occupied by White River Landing. They advertise local fare and do pretty well, although our server admitted that the mussels and scallops were not from the White River. Nice variety of main courses and good selection of beer and wine. I have been three times in the short time that they have been open. We have been eating in the bar in part because the bartender/server is extremely knowledgeable about food -- grew up on a farm and worked in a well-regarded gourmet restaurant north of here. His service is also good. I have had the rattatouile (sp?) pot pie twice -- although it comes out in a bowl the size of my morning cereal bowl, I have had enough left over both times to take home for another meal -- and I have remembered to take it home, which I often do not do. Save room for dessert, but be sure to take someone to share it -- they are huge. Most highly recommended!!! From Indy, get off at Exit 34 and follow signs to downtown -- it is at the south end of downtown -- plenty of parking.

We went for brunch the other weekend and had a lovely quiet extended brunch. The food was rich and delicious. All beverages come in Ball mason jars. Silverware is placed on the table in Ball mason jars. The waitress did a great job of splitting a complicated check (where people had split alcoholic drinks). Coffee was delicious too. Try the house Hippie Ranch dressing, its "high on dill."

In a rush to go to an early concert, we needed a fast dinner but that did not mean a bad one. So we looked to see which restaurants were available in Muncie, IN and found the Barn Brasserie, despite some unhappy comments about it. I am happy to report that we have finally found "the place to go to" in Muncie, IN. Their menu is based on what local farms can produce, and one can really tell from the offerings and the quality of the food presented to us. Since we were in a hurry we opted for their burger menu. I had the more traditional 8 oz with its accompanying hand cut fries and my partner had the Korean duck burger with kimchi and a fried egg on top. My beverage of choice was iced tea made from yerba mate tea, and it was green! The meat was outstanding and lean, the sauce on the traditional burger was the Barn's traditional sauce, simply outstanding. I practically licked the plate! Yes, it's a little more than one would pay for a burger but it's worth every penny of it. The service was informal but friendly and prompt. This is a place worth cultivating and a welcome addition to a dining scene in an otherwise lacking one. Can't wait to go back and try the desserts and the soups and salads or the entrees. Very innovative and without the pretension that normally accompanies such effort!
