Make the trip... this place is terrific. Great food, great ambience, wonderful owner. The portions are HUGE and the taste is authentic. I've been to Louisiana and I also have an affinity for making this type of cuisine at home, it's good stuff! I could go on and on about the half gumbo/half jambalaya I couldn't quite finish ( it was so filling) but just make the drive. You will be so happy you did. We were sorry we just couldn't find room to try a dessert. It's a rare day when I can't finish a meal at a restaurant. One serious piece of advice, call ahead for a table. We did and got seated before the four people that were standing there when we arrived. The room is small and the area to wait for a table is even smaller. You can sit at the bar, as well. It was packed. I would turn their four top tables into two 2 tops so you could seat more diners. It might speed things up. That is my only quibble. It's a pretty small glitch. Make the trip.. call ahead though

Very good, the complimentary bread they give you was the best bread I've ever had. I had the half gumbo and jambalaya. It was great! I also ordered a side of red beans and rice, it was good but I still like the red beans and rice from Popeyes the best. This is the best place for Louisiana food in the Central Indiana area.

My hubby and I love cajun food so we are always willing to try Nawlins style food. Not sure why it took us so long to hear about Zydeco's, but I am THRILLED that we have discovered this place. We've been 3 times now and have had wonderful food and great experiences each time. AMBIENCE- The ambiance is lively and tries to mimic a Bourbon Street feel. They do a great job for being in a small Indiana town. The decor is bursting with all the things you imagine a cajun place should look and feel like. If you go early, you will enjoy a laid back service. If you go during peak dinner hours or slightly later, then you will enjoy a noisy & more rowdy atmosphere. The locals are friendly and on our first visit, we were offered some gator by a regular sitting behind us. He just grabbed a plate and scooped some up for us to try! The place is friendly and vibrant to say the least. SERVICE- I've read some bad things about the service here on Yelp and I have to say, I'm a bit perplexed. We have always found the service to be great. However, I will say that our main server can be gone from the table longer than expected- BUT, any employee walking around and checking for refills can help you. You don't have to ask just your server for help, they are all available. So waive over anyone you see in a Zydeco's shirt and they are more than willing to get you a refill of bread or drinks. (OMG the French bread! drool...) I saw our server at several tables outside of what would be considered a normal section. He was all over the place. So please be patient. After all, this is little New Orleans in Indiana- enjoy the laissez faire mentality and kick back. Also, I have to say, our server this last time was so outgoing and friendly. He made us feel right at home and talked to us about where we drove from, etc. I mean, the kid was as friendly and helpful as he could be. He was great. MENU- You can read their full menu online at their website and prepare for the ultimate Pavlovian response, because you will start drooling. They have things I didn't expect to see like Gator, Tasso (cajun spicy ham) and tons of menu items with Crawfish. They've got shrimp, catfish, white beans and rice ( a delicious take on red beans and rice) several po boys, etouffee, jambalaya, the list goes on. FOOD- In a word, Amazing. Every time we have been overjoyed with what we have ordered. Everything tastes like it's made fresh with fresh ingredients. Another Yelper said something about 'canned sauces'- ummmm, no. You can not can the flavor and the vibrancy that the food has. The food just sings. On our most recent trip, we ordered the Tails and Tasso appetizer. WOW. You get so much for the price (I believe it was $8) A cup full of tails and a cup full of tasso- just grab a spoon and dig in. We put a little of each on plates and mixed them together. The Tasso is perfectly spicy and salty- it compliments the tails perfectly. Grab a piece of the fresh (and unlimited) French bread and you are on your way down Bourbon Street. Entrees- my hubby ordered the Black Cat smothered in tails (blackened fresh catfish served with jambalaya and covered in crawfish tails) and I ordered the Crawfish Etouffee ( served with a nice lump of white rice in the middle) The portions are huge. But don't worry, I was able to fit in some dessert, just for my fellow Yelpers ;oD The Black Cat was so tasty and the fish was fresh! It just flaked apart and was buttery. The only small letdown was the lack of punch I expected. I thought it would be a little bit spicier than it was. But I think the Tasso was so spicy that everything else paled in comparison. My Crawfish Etouffee was splendid. I added a dash of salt and was good to go. The roux had a nice consistency and wasn't too thick or too soupy, it was just right. Their were tails everywhere- no skimping here! And the portion... OMG- Huge! See the picture I uploaded. And finally, dessert. We shared the Bourbon Pecan Pie and oh, it just took me back to being in Texas. The pie was the perfect ratio of filling to pecan (I hate it when they skimp on pecans!) But Zydeco's overloads their pie with pecans and it was wonderful. The crust was flavorful. It was just a perfect way to end the meal. Even if you think you don't have room, make room for the Bourbon Pecan Pie. It's superb. OVERALL- We have driven from Muncie to Mooresville 3 times in the past few months- that has to say something about how much we love Zydeco's. We love the food and the atmosphere. Here is a tip, on Friday and Saturday nights you should make a reservation because this place gets packed. Avoid waiting with a rumbling tummy and call ahead. Also, if you partake of the alcohol, make sure you bring a designated driver. Because the GIANT specialty drinks might knock you on your ass. Actually, you might need a designated driver because of the food coma you will be in after leaving!

We love Zydeco's, the cajun cusine is fantastic. It's amazing to find a little piece of New Orleans in Mooresville, Indiana. I always make sure to have a cup of gumbo to start with and then generally go with the blackened steak. The huuricanes are amazing, and you should get them by the pitcher, but be careful don't have too many.

My wife and I love this place, food is always good and we drive an hour from Noblesville to eat here. I'm the one to not do that often I am usually a creature of convenience. Gumbo is good, very good, and hope you get to try the white chocolate bread pudding!

Holy Sh*t!!! I f***ing love this place! Mooresville? WTF? It's like in another zip code, another county, another city! I don't give a rat's a**, I will drive to Mooresville and then drive home. I am cussing a lot, but I like to think they are sentence enhancers. Went for the last of the Sunday Jazz brunches. We had reservations thank goodness. Awesome jazz ensemble playing some toe tapping numbers and some sing-a-longs for a few of the patrons. The atmosphere is laid back and everybody is happy. Even the servers had good attitudes while they were scuttling about with trays laden with ettouffee, jambalaya, and maque-choux. When we walked in the hostess guessed our names before we said anything. While we thought that was impressive, we realized it was b/c everyone knows everyone. The servers know all the customers and the customers know each other. I don't know if this is a Mooresville thing or a Zydeco's thing, but I want to be a part of it. The decor is loud and over the top, borderline cheesy, but it's a slice of New Orleans in Indiana. I liked it. We went with Cajun style bloody mary's that were spicy and I believe made with Clamato. Started off with chicken creole and jambalaya. The chicken creole was mild as far as spice is concerned, but the flavor was great. Big pieces of chicken and sausage with rice and tomatoes. The jambalaya was sneaky spice, complex flavors, and smokey sausage. Delicious! Our main course: pecan crusted catfish and maque-choux with crawfish. The catfish was breaded in crushed pecans and fried without the slightest hint of grease. Served with sneaky spicy potato salad. The maque-choux was heavenly. Corn chowder-esque with crawfish and a surprising sprinkle of cinnamon. Dessert was a freshly prepared beignet and banana bread pudding. I could have licked the plates. The service was great, our server walked us through our first visit, kept an eye on us but wasn't pushy, plates were cleared immediately. It was a great experience and I can not wait to go back.

Zydeco's is simply one of the best restaurants in the entire Indianapolis area. Everything they make is top of the line and we just love eating there. We particularly enjoy the spring Crawfish boils! Deb, the owner, is a wild woman and wonderfully gracious.

I love this place! The owners Deb and Carter are awesome. Be brave and try something you have never had. Sazeracs are authentic and great.

oh.... i love this place. Whenever I visit home I always suggest that we eat here. My parents say, "no, it's too expensive," and then we end up at Applebee's or something. But then, that's Mooresville for you, isn't it?

Oh. my. goodness. After seeing this joint on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, we just had to go. My husband loves New Orleans grub, and he said it was as good as the original stuff! We made reservations (so busy that you need to) and drove probably an hour or more across town to get there. It's a very interesting place, kinda feels like New Orleans I'd imagine (never having been). The hurricanes they serve aren't nearly as potent as what you get down south but are still very good! The staff is very friendly, and the food is dynamite! Don't think about it; just go!

GREAT place for good Cajun food! Authentic, small, locally owned, good ambiance, a rare find in central Indiana. There were four in our party and we all got different meals and appetizers. Everyone loved their food and we shared, and everything I got to taste was great. I got the BBQ shrimp after seeing it on TRIPLE D and liked it a lot, although it is a bit messy. Service was a bit slow, but the place was packed and it wasn't so slow you felt neglected or like you were waiting for long. It is well worth the drive if you like Cajun food, but CALL AHEAD. Our friends had been there before and let us know, if you don't have a reservation you may not get in or could have a long wait for a table. We will be going back, and soon!

An excellent source of comfort food. Staff is friendly. Atmosphere relaxed and eclectic. Owners are happy to talk food with you. The Half and Half (Gumbo and Jambalaya is wonderful - meaty, well seasoned and filling. Portions are large.

Probably the worst meal and service I've ever had. Very disappointed and will never go back. When I told the server I didn't care for my meal she argued with me and did nothing to compensate.

There are nine reviews before mine. Eight people knew what they were talking about, the other was clueless. Zydeco is the real deal. Everything our party of four ate was incredible. Garlic soup..words can't descibe how incredible. Crawfish boil, tassos, frog legs, etouffee, gumbo, Baronne street shrimp.....everything was great. I could ramble on but instead I'll just say go,and go now before you can't get in.

Terrible food. Cute atmosphere. The food tasted like a bunch of canned sauces and veggies poured into a pot and warmed up. No seasoning, no building of flavors. Get rid of the college kid cooking in the kitchen and hire a chef. Until then, I won't be back.

I love this place -- I feel like it's put my hometown on the map. Great Cuisin de Louisiane, great bar, friendly staff. Even if you are in Indianapolis, this place is worth the 1/2 hour drive to nowhere-ville (a.k.a Mooresville).

I was in town on business, and found on yelp. Great restaurant. The food was wonderful, had the half/half (gumbo & jambalaya) and the shrimp potato. The starting bread and house made dipping sauce was awesome. They sell it, and yes I bought some and their house seasoning too. To top it all off was the great service and drink menu (I had the corpse reviver, strong yet crisp). Check it out!

Driving through the states coast to coast and we opted to trust Guy Fieti. Zydeco's is about 5 miles off the 70 heading towards or away Indianapolis. I mean you literally drive through acres and acres of farmland that you begin to think, "is it really possible to have 5 star Cajun seafood here"? And let me tell you, YES!! First off they have got the right decor though I know it pains them to put up flags of the New Orleans Saints. We are greeted and seated immediately. The server, Susan, recommends combining their only two beers on tap (Abita Turbodog and Abita Amber) with a shot of Rootbeer schnapps. It ends up tasting like an adult root beer all the way through! She also suggests we get their Barbecue Shrimp with Tasso (Smoked beef). It's giant shrimp with a butter creole sauce. There is also complimentary fresh french bread with their own homemade dipping sauce (creole mustard, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper). The sauce you can literally eat with everything and I do mean everything. I must have combined it with the appetizer, bread and my entree to wonderous results. For my entree I got the "Black Cat", or blackened catfish on a bed jambalaya. I must have licked every single plate clean . I've been to New Orleans and the food here is the real deal. I will say it is a little on the pricier side ($75 for two people) but considering the transportation costs to bring seafood out here you can kind of understand. If you are driving cross country, or just passing through Indianapolis, do yourself a favor and come out to Zydeco's.

When I knew we were visiting my Grandma back in Indy, I knew I wanted to try this place! I left feeling so/so about it.. Let's just say that it's not the cajun food I didn't like, but rather, their variations on dishes. The Good News: -I've never had better drinks ever! The Sweet Boutte???! Heaven! We must've had a round of every fun drink they had and they were all delicious... there was a Gator something that was my fave, too! You can't go wrong with their signature cocktails! -My favorite food item was the fried gator and sauce. It was my first time trying Alligator, and it was delicious (as most fried things are). Not too greasy, had a good seasoning, the bite wasn't rough or rubbery at all... it was actually delicious! The Bad News: -I probably had only a couple of bites of my meal before I stopped :/ I got a simple dish of rosemary chicken with rice. Everything was great except this gravy that covered the entire dish. The chicken and rice would've been fine on their own... and then I looked around and realized every single dish was covered in this brown gravy concoction that just didn't taste well at all... and had HUGE amounts of cayenne pepper sprinkled over and around every plate. And that's where they went wrong because on most dishes (we all got something different and tried each other's) it would've been ok if not for this gravy/cayenne deal. -The bathroom was filthy. And I mean there were several of us that attempted to go and backed out because of how bad it was in there. :( I'd come again for the kind staff, the cool atmosphere, and drinks with gator bites though!

Two words: Crawfish Boil. Unless you are in Louisiana, it's hard to find a restaurant that can make a true Crawfish Boil. But low and behold, in Central Indiana, Zydeco's features this wonderful cajun dish as a special. The Crawfish Boil is not a menu mainstay, rather, you can check their website to determine whether or not it's a feature that night. You can order by the pound - I'm a light eater so I went with the smallest order - 1 pound. The one pound order was plenty of food - not only do you get Crawfish, it comes with the typical corn and potatoes, as well. The featured cocktails are fun and delicious. The service was great even though the place was extremely busy. I'll echo the sentiments of other reviewers and highly recommend a reservation. Mooresville is fortunate to have such a treat right in their downtown. Make the trip to Zydeco's - it's well worth it!

I can't say enough about this place! It is one of my favorites. Great food, excellent service, fun atmosphere. If it was closer, I would be there all the time!!! If you haven't tried it, you must!!! You will love your experience!!!

Terrible food, way way overpriced not sure how they have four and a half stars. Skip it and go to Indy, lots more choices. It's the second time I've been here and I'm not sure why I came back. Service was good , that's about it.

I've never been to New Orleans., and, I'm a cajun food novice, I'll give you that. That said, we've been to Zydeco's a few times, and I've never had less than a 5 star meal there, at least in my book. The blackened catfish is stellar. Nice heat, but it doesn't overpower the flavor of the fish. The jambalaya is so, SO tasty. Deserts? To die for! Service has always been just amazing. Even though it's about an hour away from us, we make a way to get there. Great place!

It's been several years since I've been to Zydeco's, so when the thought crossed my mind to create a "As Seen on TV" series in the Circle City, the episode of "Triple D" with Deb and Carter immediately came to mind. Zydeco's is located about 25 minutes from downtown Indy in downtown Mooresville, but it's well worth the drive. The second you walk in the door, it feels like New Orleans. Brick walls lined with beads, posters, pictures and memorabilia. It's a lively place with lots of laughter, music and all around good times. Bread and a dipping sauce arrive at the table pretty fast, and the sauce is delicious. A blend of Creole Mustard, Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar, this stuff would make cardboard taste delicious. I'm starting to drool thinking about how good it tastes on the bread right out of the oven. If you're like me and can't figure out what you want for dinner, take my advice and go for several small items rather than one big one - and they make it really easy to share. I went with a small dish of half and half, crawfish and cream of garlic soup. Each one was outstanding, but the Cream of Garlic Soup and Half and Half were by favorites, but all three were clear winners. It will be hard, but make sure you save room for dessert. Our table split the Bourbon Pecan Pie and the Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Bread Pudding, but I gladly took a second scoop of the Pecan Pie when it came around the table a second time. Zydeco's was featured on Diners, Drive In's and Dives a few years back for their take on Tasso's and tails.. A mixture of crawfish and andouille sausage. We were fortunate to have a side of this too, but it somehow didn't make it around the table more than once. I'm pretty sure someone else tried it, liked it, and took it for their own. I guess it means I'll have to go back soon and have it again!

The food at zydeco's was good. My husband and I got gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish étouffée, potato salad, garlic soup, and the blonde pasta. My husband said the sausage in the jambalaya was the best he'd ever had. The garlic soup was very good but by the end of the cup I was ready for a different flavor. The gumbo and jambalaya were fine but not great. The blonde pasta needed more cream in the sauce but was also good. The potato salad and crawfish étouffée were very good. He service was great and our waiter was on top of it and very friendly. The hostess had spunk, which was a good start to our dinner. My biggest issue with this place is the price. The food is good but not great. The portions are enough, but not overly generous. The decor is fun and atmosphere lively. While I would go back, this would not be my first choice in the west side area for Cajun. For about a fourth of the price, I could go to Yats and get, what I consider, better Cajun. So again, good but not great and I did not feel worth the price.

After knowing about, and driving by, Zydecos for years, we decided to stop in on a Friday for a relaxed casual dinner, a birthday celebration actually. Arrived around 6 pm to the eclectic NOLA decorated space beginning to fill up. No waiting, escorted to a 4 table. Our server was Johnny-on-the-spot with explanations, recommendations and drink orders. We started the evening with Abita beers, a Hurricane and white wine. Shortly followed by fresh baked bread with an tangy mustard & oil dipping sauce. Some shared apps - oysters on the half shell and breaded & deep fried Gator-on-a-stick - were sampled and given a collective eight thumbs up! Soon the table was covered with bbq prawn shrimp,Tasso & Jambalaya; Jolie Blond rotini pasta alphreadeaux and Tasso; Blackened Catfish, jambalaya and a small bowel of Garlic soup; and the Barron Street Shrimp with red potatoes in a sweet spicy red sauce. Every bite, sip, snap and slurp better than the last. A replenished bread basket, another round of drinks and fine conversation made for the middle of a most enjoyable evening. To finish things up, coffee and a shared bread pudding put the cap on an outstanding midwest NOLA dinner! Who'd a thunk it... in Mooresville IN?!?...just down the street from another midwest FOOD ICON...Gray Brothers Cafeteria!..... mmmmmmfried chicken! I would be remiss if I did not let all you Yelpers know that this tasty-fine NOLA dinning experience can empty your pockets faster than an Indiana biscuit and gravy heart attack, but then, what are we saving it for? ENJOY, we certainly did!

The food is purely Cajun, with an eclectic blend of Po'boys and crawfish. I would however pass on the garlic soup. The drinks are amazing. But truly it is the atmosphere that puts Zydecos on the map. Each patron is welcomed with a napkin wrapped in a bead necklace. This is the closest you are getting to New Orleans in the Indy area.

Party of ten, only 3 of us were satisfied with food they served. All the fried food were served cold, manager tasted one of food items, told us that we were lying, basically we don't know what we were talking about and offered us to finish the dish. Poboy crawfish sandwich was very cold, just like it came out of a refrigerator and so as fries, side order of softshell crab, shrimp. Although my husband's catfish were hot, fries were cold as they were sitting out for a long time. Service was ok but short blonde manager had a very poor attitude toward to customers.

We arrived around 5:30 tonight (Friday) and we were seated right away - beat the crowd! The waitress was very friendly and quick to bring our drinks. I got a beer and my boyfriend got a mixed drink. We were both surprised to see that his drink looked more like a giant milkshake but it was still really good. I don't know that it was worth $10 though. We had the crawfish étouffée for an appetizer and it was awesome. For the main dish we both got the half and half. Again - awesome. I expected a ton of rice but there wasn't much - which I loved. The meal was very delicious and we will definitely go back! It's great to see a restaurant like this in town and would love to see more like it

This is coming from a Louisiana boy born and raised.....Best Cajun food in the Midwest! Had the Tasso and BBQ Shrimp..... Spicy and delicious. The steak specialty was crazy good. The filet was cooked perfectly and pepper crusted over Cajun rice filled with yummy sausage and fish. Then they top it with a Cajun bernaise sauce that is perfect to balance the pepper from the steak. If you like great food in a fun atmosphere you would be missing out by not coming here.

The place is fun, but... The music was on a short repeat the night we were there. I know there are more Cajon tunes that could make a mx that lasted more than a half hour. The food was good, but not great. i had the wonderful experience of living in the capital of Cajon country: Lafayette LA. The gumbo and etouffe were simply fair. The tails were so tiny! You get a hard ball of rice covered in a so-so stew. OK, but I'm not sure I'll go back soon.

Best Louisiana food I've had outside of new Orleans. Shocked!!!! Not what I expected at all. And the owners are exceptionally welcoming. Good musoc too. I travel a lot. And surprisingly the steak was better than capital grill or Ruths chris... try it!!!!

Zydecos is the closest thing to Nola that I've been to.. Besides Nola itself. As a seasoned New Orleans visitor, I can smell authentic almost immediately as I came to Zydecos. My boyfriend and I were so excited and I was even more excited for him because he's never been to New Orleans and he loves Cajun food. I loved that they had many different kinds of Abita, that's awesome. The menu was full of choices and I picked catfish covered with crawfish with jambalaya, can't go wrong. I wanted to try everything. Maybe I didn't look close enough but they should have a huge sampler for $50 and we could have split it. Our bill was around $65 for two beers, appetizers, and two entrees. I would come back often it is was much cheaper. I get that the cuisine is authentic, but a poboy in Nola is about $5 off the street and tastes the same, maybe better :)

Oh yum! It's like Mardi Gras in my mouth! We decided to have several appetizers to sample a little bit of everything. Gator on a stick, jambalaya, gumbo, crawfish etouffee, and softshell crab. We could not go wrong! Flavorful spices, sauces when appropriate, home made andouille sausage to write home about. We finished the meal with bread pudding. Did I forget to mention.. oh my Yum! This is a casual, live music establishment. The wait staff are friendly, the menu and decore should give you a laugh. Adult content within a child friendly environment. Find a taste you can't live another day without? They have a store next door and will add the purchase to your bill. If you're up for the drive to Mooresville, you won't be disappointed.

Excellent, authentic Louisiana cuisine. We've eaten at a number of restaurants in New Orleans and found none better than Zydeco's. Wonderful, festive atmosphere, beads everywhere, great homemade hurricanes.....everything on the menu is great. The Baronne St. Shrimp is spicy, with tasty little red potatoes and plump shrimp, and the jambalaya is flavorful and full of chicken and sausage. Save room for the homemade bread pudding! They also have live music on weekends. Absolutely worth the drive, regardless of where you're driving from...

Its been almost three years since I last reviewed Zydeco's. I wish this place was in Tucson; I would eat here weekly. They have expanded their space by adding the store space next door so now its TWICE as big. No need to make reservations. The new room is a lounge with a huge bar. And I think the decor has been upgraded over the years. It really impressed me last night. I started with a Hurricane and the Jambalaya starter. The Hurricane was huge (see photo) as it should be and it packed a wallop, no complaints there. The Jambalaya was small, thank goodness. So I got to sample it without getting filled up on it. After two bites, I told my sister, that it took me back to when I used to live in LaPlace LA and go to the Andouille Festival every year. If any of you living in Indy want to try Zydeco's, its worth the trip if all you do is eat their Jambalaya. It's five star all the way! My sister eats their red beans and rice here regularly so she wanted to get the crawfish étouffée but so did I. She let me order the crawfish étouffée and she ordered the red beans and rice. We sampled each other's dishes. Her red beans and rice was authentic. Not spicy at all. So many places that think they have cajun or creole cooking, will spice up their red beans and rice making you clear your sinus. This is NOT authentic. I know, I lived in N'Awlins for 21 years. In Louisiana most everything is prepared mild and multiple bottles and brands of hot sauces are provided for you to spice as you like. The portions were large so I get to re-sample again today for lunch. W00t! The crawfish étouffée was perfect. A tad spicy for me but no where near sinus clearing. I love how both dishes had the steamed rice provided in a scoop so you can mix it in how you like. This is another common cajun tradition. The roux was brown as it should be and extremely flavorful. If I were able to eat here again, and I just might tonight, my last night in town, I would order the Chicken Creole. Shrimp Creole is my favorite but I'm glad they did not offer it on the menu and use frozen shrimp. If they are unable to get fresh gulf shrimp right now then yes, leave it off the menu until its in season. My only regret was that we filled up on the outstanding entrees and were unable to sample the desserts. By the way, the french bread even reminded me of my years in the bayous. I highly recommend all Hoosiers to travel as far as they need to eat here. In all my years of living in nine different states in the West, the Mid-West and the South, this is the only truly authentic cajun/creole cooking restaurant outside of New Orleans I've ever found. If I ever move back home to my Southern IN roots, I would drive the two hours to Mooresville at least once a month to get my fix ;)

The food was so fresh and flavorful!! I highly recommend a cup of the Half and Half. I love craft beer and they have a New Orleans favorite...Abita Brewery! They have several Abita brews on draft...really good!!

Very good food. My brother and I were passing through and tried something new. So glad we did. The gumbo, gator, and root beer was excellent.

My husband and I enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere. The server was very friendly and attentive. I can't recall the name of the yummy soup I had. It is a U.S. southeastern Indian specialty. I had the shrimp po boy which was pretty tasty, although the bread was toasted a bit too much and made it almost impossible to put the pieces together to form a sandwich (it was served open-faced). It didn't have the spicy kick I am accustomed to and regular mayonnaise was used instead of something like garlic aioli. My husband loved his fried catfish special. I don't recall the name of the yummy, spicy soup I had. It is a U.S. southeastern Indian specialty. We would definitely return when we are in the area.

Let me start with I absolutely love Cajun Creole food! So I can be a bit biased when reviewing these types of restaurants. My last Visit was in April and it was with my girlfriend. The atmosphere on a Thursday afternoon seemed quiet and steady. Which is what we expected for that night. I wish I could go back on a Friday night to see the difference. The decor is absolutely awesome. The look and feel of this place makes you feel like you're having a meal right on bourbon st! My girlfriend tried the ya ya chicken for her entree. She wasn't very fond of it. I tried a bit of it and wasn't impressed, had a delicious flavor but the chicken seemed a bit dry. She regretted not having the shrimp. I had the half jambalaya/ half gumbo which I absolutely loved. The vegetables were amazingly fresh and the chicken was perfect unlike in the other meal ( which leads me to believe it was a small mistake on the cook's part ). I also loved their collection of sauces available to try from their rack. Absolutely the best part. I adore anything and everything spicy so this was a special treat for me. Awesome Awesome Awesome. The hottest sauces are no joke so put your big boy pants on if you plan on getting crazy. I also had a draft Abita beer with my meal which was okay but I would have preferred something local but they didn't have anything at the moment on draft. No biggie. If i can convince my girlfriend to go back to this place I'd love to try something new. Loved the spices.

Zydeco's is the full dining experience for us from the fun New Orleans décor, excellent servers with fun personalities to the incredible food we always love. Mooresville isn't in the neighborhood or on the way for most so you need to plan on visiting this small, quite town. However, it takes us less time to get to Mooresville from Speedway than Castleton or Fishers with much less congestion and traffic and SO WORTH the small drive. Reservations are no longer taken due to the addition of the tailgate room but call ahead seating is now accepted. Zydeco's is perfect for a loud date night and fun to share with great friends. Hurricanes are highly recommended here by myself and most customers but be warned they can sneak up on you. The Bloody Mary's can hold their own with extra heat if requested. The story of how Zydeco's came to Indiana is cute with the Chef living and working in New Orleans falls in love with a girl from Indiana on spring break. Long story short, he follows her to Indiana, marries her and opens the Monrovia (now closed) and Mooresville Zydeco's. A love story and blessing for all of us loving Zydeco's. In June the restaurant experienced a fabulous renovation. The old bar room is now a true dining area with the main dining room split in half and sporting a full length bar. The restaurant has expanded incorporating the location next door into the tailgate room. The tailgate room is truly a great addition with a warm, speakeasy feel with brick walls, comfortable seating, fainting couch's, another full bar, a Band area with room for a few folks to dance if the music overpowers them. Two fold as a waiting area where you can dine at either bar and/or hangout after dinner for another drink and listen to the band when playing. The gift area has expanded and now located in the back of the tailgate room. The menu still carries all the favorites we're been in love with for years but now offers smaller appetizer dishes or the full size dinner portion. Now you can mix and match smaller dishes of your favorites or just go large and indulge. As soon as you're seated the warm French bread hits the table with butter for smothering and continues until you say stop. Tasso seasoning is one of our favorite spices now and we enjoy the Tasso appetizer (pork) or Tasso gator. If you enjoy the spice purchase a bottle in the gift area. My all time favorite is the Half & Half (Jambalaya & Gumbo) with rich flavors and Tasso spices. The Blackened Catfish, Corn Chowder, Manqué-Choux and Creole are a few of my other favorites. If you're a steak eater & feel like splurging ($39.99) you must try the Blackened Filet with Béarnaise sauce. A few years ago I enjoyed this blacken half pound of tenderloin served on a bed of Jambalaya and drenched in a super rich Béarnaise sauce and sauteed mushrooms. Amazingly tender, flavorful and huge, in my opinion, but delicious!!! Honestly we've never had anything we don't care for so if your unsure try several of the appetizer sizes. I can't say save room for dessert since I'm always stuffed by dessert from loafs of bread & butter, appetizers, and full portion meals but you must try the desserts. Share small bites from a communal plate and take home a dessert for later. The beignet banana bread pudding is excellent and the rum sauce is addictive. The bourbon pecan pie is a must if your a pecan pie lover. Regardless of what you indulge in, you'll leave happy, stuffed with scrumptious food and drink plus looking forward to your next trip to Zydeco's as your driving home.

How strange to drive down from Indy and not go to Gray Brother's Cafeteria! After reading the reviews, and being a foodie, I decided to try Zydeco's. My wife and I were strategic about what we ordered because we wanted to try everything, but there's only so much you can eat in one visit. One of the details I love best here is the appetizer-size, or small cups, of most items on the entree menu. There are a couple of exceptions. We ordered the half and half, (gumbo and jambalaya) and potato salad as "appetizers". Everything was absolutely delicious and bursting with flavor. I did add a little Tabasco to mine because that's just how I roll. I also had to try their version of a Hurricane which was as good as any I've had on Bourbon Street. For entrees, I had a shrimp poboy and a small cup of the crawfish etouffe, and my wife had the Barrone Street Shrimp. The poboy was good, not fantastic like everything else, but it met my expectations. Everything else was incredible. The only food item that didn't wow me was the bread pudding. It really was nothing special and is the only item I would not order again. As far as service goes, it was among the best I've had anywhere. Karen was our waitress and was perfect, always there when we needed her without ever being annoying as some over zealous servers can get. She was very accommodating and knowledgeable of the menu. Ambiance was also good and I give this place my highest thumbs up. Now I have two reasons to drive down to Mooresville!

It's surprising to find cajun food in a tiny Indiana town. But, there it is. We've been here a few times now. It's uneven. Sometimes it's excellent and other times they miss the mark. Hits: the gumbo is good, rich and flavorful. All of the fried dishes are excellent, though sometimes go overboard on the breading/crust. I also like the blackened catfish which, isn't exactly like eating at K-Pauls in New Orleans, but it's good. The drinks are quite good. Misses: The jambalaya tends to be dry and bland - the kitchen seems to be taming the food a bit for the Indiana audience. Fine for locals, I guess, but for those of us who want a real taste of New Orleans, not so great. Also, deserts were just ok. Worth a stop if you are in the area and want a change of pace.

Mr. Carter Hutchinson is doing it right in downtown Mooresville, IN. Recently featured on Diners, Drive ins, and Dives, this local favorite is pulling people from all around Indy to the sleepy town that rolls up the sidewalks at 10PM each night. Here is the episode: youtube.com/watch?v=AScH ... Enjoyed our first experience by sampling a variety of appetizers, tasso, crawfish maque, Jolie Blond Pasta, Ya Ya Chicken, a side of fried catfish, some fried shrimp, and the monstrous chocolate cake. The atmosphere is festive, attractive, and representative of the French Quarter. I literally felt like I stepped into Bourbon Street. The Hurricanes were flowing and I have to say, I felt they were as good as the famous Pat O'Briens of New Orleans fame. The servers were friendly and even the bartender came to the table to make sure our drinks were spot on. This is definitely a small town, family-oriented, and a warm, cozy, laid-back establishment. Make sure you check out their specials and boils. If you want a great experience with that Nawlin's spicy flair, take time to try Zydeco's. We won't be able to keep this place a secret much longer. Looking forward to just dropping in for drinks and listening to Buckwheat Zydeco - Don't Mess With My Toot Toot and kickin' back. Just like the shirts say on your servers, "Shut up and Suck it." Bar selections are Bourbon Street favorites from the Hurricanes to the Nawlin's style beers, Zydeco's will remind you of the French Quarter in the heart of Morresville, IN.

A must, but go in the spring when it's crawfish season so you can get the crawfish boil- so good, but they only have it at certain times, so you may want to call and check if that's why you're going. I've eaten there several times and had different dishes, all of which were very good. I did think the jambalaya was kind of plain, but it wasn't bad. If you're looking for a good drink, the Abita Turbodog is good, or have the bartender mix you a gator juice, you won't be disappointed.

We stopped in and tried this little piece of New Orleans in the Heartland. We loved the stuffed sausage appetizer and the house dressing. We ordered several small dishes to try a lot of the menu. All of it was good, but the jambalaya was better than I had in the "Big Easy". The atmosphere was lovely. The wine list was solid. We look forward to going back when we get a chance.

In New Orleans, this place is one or two stars. In Cornfield Republic, it's four stars. Why? Because New Orleans is more than 800 miles away and your Cajun options here are very limited. I have been to New Orleans 5-6 times and am familiar with the food there. As some other reviewers have indicated, they back off on the spices and taste. Way off. Don't blame them - blame the demographics and clientele. They really have to back off or few around here can down it. The oysters on the half shell were actually very good. They're usually $24 but they were only $14 per dozen today because there's some special. The oysters were fairly large and fresh. Crawfish Etoufee was just ok. Nothing like what I have had in New Orleans but decent for here (again, what are your alternatives?). I had to add some seasoning and Tabasco sauce. Actually, I had to add a lot. The Jambalaya and Jolie blond pasta were fine. Gator tail and chicken wings appetizers were fine. If you're from N'awlins or have been there numerous times and think this place will be like home, you'll be disappointed. If you're a townie, this place is great.

We drove to Zydecos during a torrential thunderstorm and ran inside. First impression was of a quirky fun place with artwork and funky furniture. The hostess greeted us warmly and showed us to a small alcove with tables for two and lots of fun things to look at. The waitress was terrific, very friendly and attentive. Any questions we had about a dish or ingredient or New Orleans to which she didn't know the answer she would say, "just a minute", run off, and come back with the answer immediately. The name of that muskrat like creature is "nutria", btw. I ordered the hurricane. Wow. Great fruity drink. If you are a lightweight drinker like I am, you may not be able to finish it either. I am having one of those again for sure. My friend had a NOrleans beer and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't recall the name but it was on tap. We were eating vegetarian and she helped us choose a variety of small dishes to share. My favorite was the red beans and rice. Very yummy, our favorite dish of the night. The potato salad was to die for and the creole was good. The warm bread and special dip was very yummy. We were too full for dessert. Next time. At one point our waitress came over and told us to watch because at a table nearby, the fella, was asking his girlfriend to marry him. What a fun experience, and our waitress, Colleen was thoughtful enough to share it. When we left, we were very happy and the rain had stopped.

I've lived on the West Side for 12 years and never even heard of this place. Who would think an authentic cajun comfort house would be in sleepy, little Mooresville? Everything was a delight: the atmosphere, the drink menu, the food and dessert. Ill be back!

The atmosphere of this restaurant is awesome. From the moment you walk in you really think you are on Bourbon Street. The service was great even though they seemed really busy for a Thursday night. The food was amazing as usual. I had so much crawfish it was awesome. Most places are skimpy on the seafood, but this place doesn't hold back. I will be back!

Full of joy. Simplistic, but perfect illustration of Zydeco's. Happiness oozes out of the doors onto the street. Character is in full swing and so are the accomplices who serve. Here sits a perfect foil for the sleepy area of Mooresville. It steeps, it moves, it begs for entry. Ivy creeps on the outside, weathered wooden floors inside beg you to shake your money maker. "Laissez les bons temps rouler" as my cajun mom might say. The joy of living rides along side the joy of eating. Thank you Wanda M. and Mar L. for this rediscovery of Zydeco's. February, Saturday before Mardi Gras. Picture a scene, if you will, out of hospitality and giving. A celebration of food before the humbling of Lent. Beer before 2 o'clock? Monty Python Holy Grail Ale, a fit choice for this. Everything gonna be alright. Catfish. Jambalaya. Crawfish. Natural born lovers, together. Pleasantly spicy, like the back beat of a bass drum. Take a bite of the Tasso, wash it down with the music. Here on out, everything will be all right. Oysters to chew, whoa child! Garlic soup opens the tasters. Beans and rice, man, flavors that roll together. It's a slow, enjoyable movement eating the food and devouring the atmosphere. Man, I'd like to eat a little of each item all in one sitting. Yet, there is a choice. Hit the starter cups. It's a teasing tidbit.

Oh man was this ever "The Bomb" for Cajun food! The staff/owner were awesome as well.. We arrived and told the hostess that we'd seen the place on TV..Her response was "Oh on Cops?"....we nervously laughed and said 'No....on Triple D." The appetizers were awesome, I don't see them on the current menu page but it was a sausage boudan(?) type of item....I had the Jambalaya which is the best I've ever had (ya I'm from Iowa so what do I know...I KNOW it was great! that's what I know) and the Bread Pudding w/rum sauce was a sweet way to end the meal. When we were leaving I believe it was the owner (or the head cook) came over to ask us how this were and we said 'Fantastic...seen you guys on TV and figured we had to make it in when we were in the area." His reply was....."Oh you seen us on COPS?"......Again.....we stated "No, on TripleD" Either we missed something or they were just funning with us?? Either way the food was fantastic!

Cajun food is hard to come by in Central Indiana (I can count the number of authentic restaurants on one hand), but Zydeco's does a decent rendition. It's located pretty much in the middle of nowhere (downtown Mooresville) so unless you're on your way to or from Bloomington/Martinsville, you probably won't be coming here. That would be a shame. Food is flavorful, without being too spice-forward (a common mistake of so-called Cajun restaurants in an attempt to seem authentic). The base ingredients are definitely the stars of the dishes. Their roux is done very well and reminds me of some of the places I've been to in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. The owner and owner's wife go from table to table checking up their guests, which is a nice homey touch. There's also a nice selection of hot sauces on the wall to choose from. I need to get down here for their Sunday brunch or a Saturday night to check out the live music.

My son heard about Zydeco's on a foodie show (Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives). He planned our drive from Virginia to Colorado specifically through Indianapolis so that we could eat dinner at Zydeco's! And it was worth the long 9 hour drive to get here! First off, the ambience is just FUN. You can not walk into that restaurant and not feel light and happy! The Hurricane drink - a rum-based concoction - went down easily and smoothed away 9 hours of tension (driving in thunderstorms, downpours, etc). The Purple Haze beer (Abita) was fruity and refreshing as well. I ordered the Jolie Blond Pasta - crayfish tails over spiral pasta in a red sauce... It came in this huge bowl - and I thought for sure I would have leftovers... but it was too good to not finish it all! My son had the Crawfish Maque Choux (a corn chowder) - very flavorful and good sweet corn! We were both too full to have dessert - so we ordered a slice of pecan pie to go. Excellent! We were there on a Friday evening. They were having live music on Saturday evening - so we mistimed that one! I can only imagine Zydeco's rocks when there is live music!

Okay -- heads up on this review. I haven't been in five years. I wanted to review this place though to make a point that one bad experience can keep someone away forever. We live super close by and went once when we first moved to the area. We haven't been back. We eat out constantly and this place due to the location could have been somewhere we frequented. I went there with my husband and my father. My food was basically potatoes, ketcup and seasoning on top. If I could give them negative stars for my dish, I would. My husband was unimpressed as well. But my father RAVED about the food. And I do have to admit that the service was good. For the service I'm bumping it up to two stars. Edit: Went back in January 2015. While my meal was significantly better (i.e. I would go again if someone suggested it) it doesn't hold up to food I have had when visiting Louisiana.

Good tasty food, my Sazerac was excellent, I sat outside on a beautiful summer day...but there's only one vegetarian option on the whole menu (maybe two, depending on the base in the corn chowder)...Red beans and rice! Well, that's all well and good, but what if I'm not in the mood for crawfish? Also, don't get the soft shelled crab, it's the worst fried crab I'd ever gotten. Other than that, the service and atmosphere are all amazing. It's fun that you get beads on every table (around the silverware, no less) and the chocolate cake looks amazing.

Showed up on a Saturday evening, without a reservation after a full day of bumming around Indy. Deb said she had a reservation coming in by 8:00 and we could have that table if we could finish up by then....it was 6:30.... What I loved the most about this place is that if you are afraid to try a full sized entree, they offer smaller versions, so we ordered a sampler of a bunch of their offerings. I have never been to New Orleans, but after visiting Deb and Carter, I'm ready to go! The food was outstanding, the service was second to none and Deb told me it was all fat free, so theres that.... ;) I even got a hug on my way out! How awesome is that! Cannot wait to get back.

This place has phenomenal food! I've never had Cajun food like this before and have been generally unimpressed until now!! The place has great character, as well. The decor was awesome! It was everything I would imagine a New Orleans style Cajun joint to be! We went without a reservation and sat at the bar because that was the only open seating. The bartender didn't show up so the owner was doing double duty as the hostess while trying to maintain the bar and handle any other chaotic moment that may have arisen while managing a full restaurant during dinner rush! Impressive! As was the food! Everything we had was amazing! I sampled both the Gumbo and the Jambalaya! I was more a fan of the Jambalaya but both were awesome! Also, their house made Hurricane's are... tough and taste great too! I will be back here soon!

"Wouldn't you like to get away? Sometimes you want to go, Where everybody knows your name, And they're always glad you came." If this song reminds you of a spot you'd like to be, no need to travel to Boston. Actually, save yourself the trip, because the Cheers bar is nothing like this. Zydeco is your spot. We walked in the front door on a Wednesday evening and we were quickly greeted by a spunky waitress with a huge smile - "Chris?" I quickly answered for my husband - Yes, that's us! She said, "I've saved you guys the table with the umbrella." My husband was still baffled. He had called to make a reservation, but had to leave a message on the answering machine. He didn't receive a call back, so he didn't know if anyone had heard his message. Obviously, they had! We breezed over the menu and quickly came to the drink options. We continued to take in the scenery and the lively conversation from one barstool patron to the next. The waitress, bartender and other guest dining in the room - they all seemed like one big extended family, enjoying each others company. Our waitress quickly made her way back over to take our drink orders and find out more about us. I ordered a hurricane and my husband a beer. She made friendly convo asking if this was our first visit and where we were from and how we heard about the restaurant. Once she discovered we were from Chicago she quickly introduced us to the table beside us, another couple from Chicago. They chatted with us and told us the items they had tried and which their favorites. We made our selections from the menu and waited in anticipation. Oysters three raw and three fried for me. Maque Choux for the husband. His selection was this incredibly delicious spicy corn chowder - absolutely recommend it! My oysters were ginormous. The fried oysters had the most amazing coating. It was light, crispy, salty and peppered to perfection - the highlight of my dinner! For our main course I went with the soft shell crabs and potato salad. Husband did the half and half. Both of our meals had great flavor; however, we would have given 5 stars had the main dishes been a little warmer. Bottom line ... If you are looking for a warm friendly environment to sit back and enjoy delicious oysters, nice beer selection, fun conversation and phenomenal Maque Choux, this is your spot. The best part ... even if they don't know your name they still seem really glad you came. So go!

Mixed review. Some OK? Some not good at all. Best choice of the group was the vegetarian red beans and rice. Nicely spiced served hit. Jambalaya was pasty. All of the meat in the dish was way over cooked. Same should be said about the sausage in the red beans and rice with sausage dish. Dressing on the table is yummy. Run of the mill bread served. Ya Ya chicken looked like it had been prepared ahead of time and microwaved. Over all very disappointed. Not likely to get a second visit.

Take a trip down to New Orleans without leaving Indiana... This place is fantastic. Once you step in the door you know you are in for some good eats and the food does not disappoint. Ordered an Abita 'Turbodog' beer (brewed 30 miles north of New Orleans) - which they have on tap - and settled in. Our server suggested some fried green tomatoes to start and they were absolutely awesome. Warm french bread was also served - try it with the special house dressing. I ordered the Crawfish Etouffee and my wife had half Jambalaya and half Gumbo. My Etouffee was packed with delicious crawfish tails and just spicy enough. The Jambalaya/Gumbo combo was equally stacked. Both were delicious. We finished off with an order of beignets (Cajun doughnuts). They were piping hot, chewy and delicious. My only VERY MINOR complaint is that there was too much powdered sugar for my taste - easy remedied by shaking some of it off. All in all, I HIGHLY recommend you give this place a try - best New Orleans fare I have had outside of the Crescent City (and I have had alot).

We just ate at this very unique and very comfortable restaurant in Mooresville. Our waitress, Susan, was so sweet and helpful. She recommended several dishes which were delicious. It was like she invited us to her house and she was serving to friends. The BBQ shrimp was great, spicy, but very flavorful...and messy the way BBQ shrimp should be. The shrimp were huge and very moist. The surprise was the spicy strips of pork in the BBQ sauce. The blackened catfish was moist with the perfect combination of spices. It was laid over a nice portion of jambalaya. The sauce on the Barone Street shrimp was so good. The bread pudding was the topper. The sweetness combatted the spices of dinner and was excellent. We came from San Diego so returning isn't so easy but I'd love to come back and try everything on the menu. The owners stopped by and were interested and sincere...and made us feel so welcome and comfortable. A very special place.

Had wanted to go here since we moved here last year.... And I suppose I am spoiled when it comes to Cajun coming from a town out west with some amazing joints. Because it was kind of hit and miss here on what we ordered. Like how can red beans and rice be just okay. I was expecting it to be out of the park, but it was very bland, like not even salted bland. The gumbo was just so so as well. However the pasta dish they offer was full of flavor, and wish I liked crawfish more and shrimp because I would eat this dish all the time then. The Maxchou (sp?) was very flavorful and would make a great rainy day dish. The beer list here has some great southern offerings which was unexpected and enjoyed!

We went there the Saturday after Thanksgiving on our way home from visiting family. We saw the restaurant on DDD and had high expectations, unfortunately they weren't anywhere close to meeting them. We had to wait a bit since we didn't have reservations (understandable) and thankfully the weather that night was marvelous and we waited outside. After we were seated, we waited a full 15 minutes before our waitress came by to take our drink order. When she did, she told our daughter they were out of milk, so she ordered lemonade -- only to come back 10 minutes later with our drinks and told us they were out of lemonade, too. My daughter was 'stuck' with ordering ice tea because she's hates carbonated beverages, even though she doesn't ice tea either. We then placed our entire order - for appetizer we had the BBQ Shrimp Boutte and for entrees my wife and I had the Softshell Crab Po Boy and the Jolie Blond Pasta while our daughter had the fried catfish. It took another half an hour for our app to arrive (at this point we were sitting over an hour). The BBQ Shrimp Boutte (which we saw on the show) was very underwhelming - the shrimp were rubbery and the only thing we could taste was all the cajun spices - the flavor of the shrimp were completely obliterated. My Softshell crab po boy was good, I've had worse and I have had better -- just middle of the road, IMO. My wife's pasta was a lot spicier than she (and I) were expecting when we ordered and combined with the over-spiced appetizer, most of it was left behind. Our daughter's catfish were fried perfectly and very moist... The level of spice was off-putting...yes we know cajun food is spicy, we like spicy food, but this was very spicy and combined with the post on their window saying that they do not adhere to the adage that cajun food has to be spicy, we were surprised by the outcome. By the time we were done eating, we had been there for nearly two hours and wanted to leave, so we skipped dessert. We won't be back.

Terrible food, way way overpriced not sure how they have four and a half stars. Skip it and go to Indy, lots more choices. It's the second time I've been here and I'm not sure why I came back. Service was good , that's about it.

I've lived on the West Side for 12 years and never even heard of this place. Who would think an authentic cajun comfort house would be in sleepy, little Mooresville? Everything was a delight: the atmosphere, the drink menu, the food and dessert. Ill be back!

Have eaten here couple times. It is a really good restaurant, atmosphere is a nice party type atmosphere. Everyone should try it out.

Oh. my.

Deb, the owner, is a wild woman and wonderfully gracious.

oh.... i love this place. Whenever I visit home I always suggest that we eat here. My parents say, "no, it's too expensive," and then we end up at Applebee's or something. But then, that's Mooresville for you, isn't it?

Terrible food. Cute atmosphere. The food tasted like a bunch of canned sauces and veggies poured into a pot and warmed up. No seasoning, no building of flavors. Get rid of the college kid cooking in the kitchen and hire a chef. Until then, I won't be back.

I love this place -- I feel like it's put my hometown on the map. Great Cuisin de Louisiane, great bar, friendly staff. Even if you are in Indianapolis, this place is worth the 1/2 hour drive to nowhere-ville (a.k.a Mooresville).
