Simply the most delicious doughnuts in the world!! None better! I love the texture and consistency and the delicate, light, fluffy, texture of the doughnuts! Their doughnuts are the greatest! They also have a lunch counter where they have a simple menu, with regulars drinking coffee and swapping stories about the fish that got away. KINZERS is a Monticello mainstay that I hope sticks around for years to come!
I stop here often on my way home from work. It's usually around 4am - that's when they are just putting the freshly baked & iced donuts out. I usually get 4 & it costs about $3 or less depending on the type of donuts. Always fresh & melt in your mouth! They also serve lunched if that interests you. Still good & inexpensive. You just have to stop if in the area!
When Jon C and I lived in Monticello, we stopped here in the morning for muffins. Their muffins.. how I miss thee. From luscious moist good-for-ya morning muffins, to blueberry muffins, to (moan) cherry walnut muffins. Moist. Not obscenely large, just the right size. Their fruit muffins are not too sweet. This is tremendously important, because when fruit muffins are overly sweetened, the taste and sweet from the fruit is lost. Cinnamon buns. I'm not ashamed or embarrassed to admit that I have dreams about them still. Some bakeries have this prejudice against using lots of cinnamon in their products. Kinser's has no such bias... If you like cinnamon, you need their cinnamon buns/donuts/whatever has cinnamon that they have baked that morning. When we ate lunch here, we liked their Italian chicken sandwich. Simply spiced chicken breast, put on a bun and served with a smile and 'here ya go enjoy' Kinser's was our second home for a very long time. We went back there 2 anniversaries ago, and the staff still remembered us. That was 150 and 200lbs ago, through a bunch of hair and body and style changes. And they still remembered us and smiled brighter than ever.

This is a strange establishment, in a good way. It's pretty far off the beaten path and a little tough to find unless you know where it is, but they have the best selection of draft beer in town, including some fine craft brews in a rotating selection. The fish is really quite good, and the drinks are excellent. There is good reason the parking lot loads up with motorcycles all summer long.
Went here for dinner on a Sunday evening. Make sure to a) get good directions or b) have a GPS that works well. Hard to find, but the food is worth it. Not being in a mood for fish, I opted for the New York steak. Two sides come with the dinner, and I chose the cole slaw and cottage cheese, both of which were nIce ad cold and fresh. Our server was very pleasant and efficient, but after I was done eating I overheard one of her coworkers explaining that day's specials menu to another table. Is there a reason it wasn't offered to us? My steak was prepared just as ordered, but the grilled onions were a hair underdone. As a person with mobility issues, however, the owners of this place need to be drawn and quartered regarding the accessibility of the ladies room. One makes a hairpin turn to get behind a screen and then is met with a 3-4" step up into the bathroom proper. If the light's not on, you're dead meat in there because it's blacker than pitch and the switch is not only 6-7 inches from the door, but at an unusual height. If you go here, pay it forward and leave the light on for the next person.
This hidden gem is an amazing establishment! Great beer, friendly atmosphere, awesome wait staff, tasty grub, and a stellar bar tender. Steve is the epitome of a bartender, gracious host, and righteous dude.

Of all the fast food restaurants in Monticello (and there is a surprisingly ample amount of big and small chains represented here), I prefer Wendy's above all. The Wendy's here is a cross between a fast food restaurant and a diner. The manager walks around asking if you need anything, or could he get you a refill. They care if you're happy. It's clean, and the seating is organized well to give a spacious feeling. The staff at the counter are nice and friendly. If they get your order wrong, or even if you got your own order wrong (meant hamburger, not cheeseburger), they will correct it free of charge, and they even let you keep the wrong order. The new sea salt, hand-cut, russet potato french fries are almost as good as McDonald's. The spicy chicken sandwich is actually spicy enough for me. If it wasn't for the food, I could forget it was Wendy's and think I was at Angler's.

This place is a must when you're in Monticello, Indiana. We always come here for custard when visiting my father in law who has a house nearby. Get their big Bubba, similar to a blizzard, and add whatever extras you like.
Visited this place for the first time. Prices were pretty reasonable. Butter pecan custard was awesome. We came here because if the reviews and I am glad that I read them. We were not disappointed. Everyone got what they wanted. They order was correct. And the wait time was minimal. This will definitely be a regular stop when we come through. It is hard to find and signage is not great. It's across the street from Walgreens and behind the bank. You can see Walmart from their parking lot. It is for sure a gem of a find. All the locals know where it is at.
When I was visiting the area, I frequented this place so much!! It was addicting! I will have to go here again when I go back there. :)

I went to sit down when I found gum on my butt. I had gum on my butt. And poop was smeared on my table. Yummy very appetizing. The food tasted like srirachi sauce. I would have rather went to the movie theater and eaten Popcorn off the floor. Why do places in town love poop?!
The mini pizzas are very filling, small but piled high with toppings. I had the mini veggie pizza today and it was topped with so many veggies you couldn't see the crust. The breadsticks were very tasty! Service was a little slow at lunch, they seemed to have quite a few carry out orders. Our server was very friendly, the little dining room was homelike and the atmosphere made us feel like we were eating in the home of a friend.
GOOD FOOD, FRIENDLY SERVICE Tired of chain restaurants? Give Abe's Pizza a try. Go for their salads, pizza and bread sticks. Come back for their friendly service and clean restaurant.... Abe's is a locally owned and family operated business with great food and good first jobs for area students. What more could you want?

We eat here often. We dock our boat, (the docks r huge and very easy to pull up to,)and right up the stairs to this great restaurant. Friendly staff & great food. Perfect place to stop and eat if your out boating on Lake Shafer or driving through Monticello. Kids love it and for the adults...They make awesome mixed drinks too. Never disappointed here.
Typically, I wouldn't expect really good pizza from a restaurant that you can access via boat in Indiana, but Jake's Beach House on Lake Shafer in Monticello is an exception. The reason? They get all of their ingredients from Pizza King. I ordered a pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms per the recommendation of a Pizza King connoisseur, but the mushrooms were just on his half as I don't really like fungi on my pizza. The sausage and pepperoni on my half were both very good. The thin crust was good as well, although it was not salted like you will see at some Pizza Kings. Jake's Beach House has a lot of other food besides pizza plus a full bar and a famous house drink called The Octane. They have an inside eating area and a large deck overlooking Lake Shafer. I don't think you would be disappointed by ordering one of their pizzas on the deck on a nice summer day.
This is a really nice place great scenery great service great food highly roccommended

Tried this place again, still awful. Extra charges they don't tell you about until the bill comes. Management doesn't manage. I will never be back.
Best wings around! And you definately get your moneys worth!
We love Sportsman. We live less than 5 minutes away and often order carryout as well as eating in. Love their wings, salads, soups, sandwiches and several of the entrees (I'd avoid the pasta, not my favorite). Haven't had a bad appetizer here. All of the servers I've had have been great. Their bar mixes great drinks as well.

Well we went back and found it open on 4th of July but only for breakfast. Old fashion Mexican restaurant with a mini Mexican store inside. The food and service was fabulous. If you know anything about Mexican cuisine, it would be helpful, because on there menu it was the same basic things I see at any other Mexican restaurant. But..when I started asking for certain add-ons for my breakfast, they actually had them...Very surprising!! We will definitely be back!!
GROSS! Anyone who is recommending this hole is obviously a friend or family of the business. I would'nt feed the food to my dog!
What a GREAT place! I recommend this place to anybody in search of FINE Mexican cuisine. The portions were huge and the prices are perfect. Expect to walkout with a belly full and a possible doggy bag. There is also a mini Mexican supermarket for your shopping convenience, well, maybe not a convenience but they do sell hot sauce! LoL This place is a MUST TRY!

Great burgers. Must visit when in Monticello.
Everything on the menu is awesome. My picks. The BLT. Loaded up with bacon. The Italian beef sandwich is something right out of a new York City deli. Loaded with green peppers and some dipping juice. The rueban is excellent also. Good waiter there in the afternoon. Nice young man. Would like to see some Bottles of Molson Canadian beer, otherwise good selection of beer. Lake Shafer Wilbur.
Hadn't been here in years, sign said under new management...wow, this was the worst dinning experience in my life. Waitress was fine, but only able to do one thing at a time so you need patience. Menu is limited we ordered onion rings as an appetizer and they were good. We both ordered the marinated chicken breast, you can't screw up chicken breast...right? We were served dinner salads and they were fine. Our dinners arrived (bad sign when a boneless chicken breast is served with a steak knife? )Chicken was very rubber, I took one bite, apparently the unnamed marinade is made from old shoe inserts. My wife took one bite and spit it into her napkin. My special "garlic" potatoes appeared to be last night's baked potatoes heated up in a broiler. Brown dry and tasteless. Please be aware I don't send food back, I don't post bad reviews for fun but this place is horrible. I called the waitress over and said that the food was bad and we just wanted the check so we could leave. She sent the manager out she asked if there was a problem. I replied that everything was horrible and we just wanted to go. She said she would "adjust" the check...after a 10 minute wait they finally brought the check. It was still $25. The place is loud and smokey, the service is suspect and the food is awful. I saw many doggie bags at other tables but I love my dog more than that. Do yourself a favor and eat anywhere else...
