Rally’s

Went here when I was in town for a family vacation. Have never tried rally's before but I had heard the fries were the best in town. Decided to throw wind to my diet and dive in. Being a true yelper I felt obligated to think back and write a review for all to read. First off let me say the service was impeccable. A nice gal named Hope announced her name as "welcome to rally's this is Hope would you like to try a combo?" When I said I just wanted a burger she asked if I would like fries with that. YES I WANTED FRIES that's the main reason I was out trying this fast food chain. ( was checking up sales by only ordering a burger) I was greeted with a smile at the window by a girl named faith. She said "look ...see I have put in your napkins and double checked your order for you" . The fries were well seasoned and crispy not greasy. The burger was excellent. I'm so going back next time I'm in the area. Until then if you want your order done correctly ask for Faith or Hope to make it. Isn't it cool that even in fast food we still have Faith and Hope. Kudos to the manager here for training your staff so well. I will be back. If nothing more than to get the fries which are sooo yummy or just to say at Rally's they have Faith and Hope. Thanks employees. You rock!

What a wonderful place to stay! We booked the Independence Room which had more than enough space for us, and the bed was just right. The view of the river and surrounding hillside is spectacular and can be seen perfectly from the inviting front porch. The location is about 5 minutes from old downtown Madison yet is so quiet and serene, it could be in the middle of nowhere. Kathy goes beyond only being a B&B owner: she is incredibly friendly, helpful, awesome cook and such a wonderful sense of humor. She knows the ins and outs of Madison. We will definitely be back!

Small town dive bar heaven! Walk in to a shot gun room that goes waaaay back, a long dark wooded bar that goes about 3/4 of the waaaaay back, old copper ceiling tiles, dark brick walls, a flat top grill & deep fryer behind the bar, a jukebox and a gosh darned popcorn machine. This place is perfect. Not to mention the cheap beer & drinks. And, they serve one of the best bar burgers in the universe. We ALWAYS hit Shipley's when we're in Madison. Alas, they still allow smoking, but the place itself is clean including the restrooms.
Best burger I've had in a long time! And the frys are A++ too!
Best Fish Sandwich! Our hiking group, 16 of us stormed into this wonderful place after a six miles hike at Clifty fall state park.

Bistro One

Reviews:
We heard Bistro One was excellent and it was. We were not dressed for such a nice place but on a freezing Thursday night they welcomed us and made us feel like valued customers. We started with the cheese and proscuitto stuffed mushrooms. There were five of them and they were outstanding. The house salad comes with an interesting Greek dressing, a nice tomato wedge and marinated onions. It was very good. Steve had the Kalamatra Chicken topped with spinach and tomatoes and he loved it. I had the lemon shrimp and it was outstanding. The entrees come with a shared 'copper pan' of starch and vegetables. The served linguine, a perfect accompaniment to the shrimp, potatoes, glazed carrots and steamed broccoli. We could not even finish the copper pot and my 'I don't eat cooked vegetables' husband loved the carrots. The wine selection was nice and I had two Chianti at $6.25 each. Steve ordered baklava and it must have been good because I didn't even get a taste! The bill was $71 plus tip and worth every penny! The staff was gracious and the owner Nick was adorable. He came out and chatted several times and said he loved me as I left. I love him too and if I ever get back to Madison, Nick's charming Bistro One is #1 on my list.
The Cobb salad was insanely big. Very good. Very very good. Wings were perfect. But...we only got 9 wings not 10. Funny!
I love this restaurant. The owner always comes out to make sure that the dishes are up to your standard. They have delicious food and you can taste the freshness that they cook with. This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to when we are looking for a delicious fillet. Anything that you get here you can guarantee it to be wonderful. The food is really worth what you spend on it. I have never had a bad experience at this restaurant.

Try the Sicilian. It will change your life. These people love what they do and are passionate about great food and excellent service. I've been twice to sit down and about ten times for delivery and am always impressed. Salads and breadsticks are awesome too.
Great beer selection and the pizza was so tasty. The beer list is 3 pages typed front and back and is also beautifully displayed on a chalkboard at the entrance. I ordered the Noble Order Tobias Apricot IPA. Unfortunately I received the Original Sin Apricot Cider. Not at all the same thing, but I liked it fine once I adjusted to having a cider, and I didn't mention the mix up to our very busy waitress. My boyfriend ordered a New Albanian Hoptimus IPA, which came out in a 22 oz. bomber bottle, which was a surprise (but a good one.) The toasted ravioli were tasty, six to an order and a perfect start. The small RPD pizza (minus green peppers) was the perfect amount. Without the ravioli we'd have eaten the whole thing! I ordered a diet Pepsi when we ordered the pizza and literally I received the straw when we got the bill!! I didn't get the Pepsi until we asked for the check and I asked for it to go!! The poor waitresses here are stretched to the MAX. but they're so friendly. Definitely a great choice in Madison.
This place is small. Went on a Thursday and it was pretty packed so I'm assuming Fri, Sat will be more so. So be prepared to wait on table....but it's worth the wait! The interior is kitschy with beer signs, neon lights, etc. Speaking of beer, WHOA! They have an enormously extensive beer list. They have a lot written on a chalk board but it's hard to read. They also have a beer bible that tells what they have. I was satisfied with this Peach beer. It didn't taste like peaches but it was a good beer nonetheless. On to the pizza....got the artichoke pizza and added chicken. It was delicious! The crust wasn't too thin or too thick. The sauce was really creamy and satisfying. If you are to order this pizza, stick with a personal pan or a small. To me, the cream is so rich I couldn't eat more than two or three slices of it. The waitstaff was really on it too. Our waitress was very pleasant and it seemed most of the staff were local school kids. But they all seemed great and did their jobs well. Give this place a try! The End.

Hinkle’s Sandwich Shop

Reviews:
It was a decent Burger, but the reason I'm giving Hinkle's the 5 star rating is the overall dining experience. Walking into Hinkle's is like walking back in time to the mid-60's. This place hasn't changed its decor for decades and I hope they never do. Everything from the old counter to the quarter jukebox was a pleasant surprise. The Burgers are small. A little larger than your average White Castle, but they taste a whole lot better. The meat and all the ingredients are fresh and delicious. But the star of the show is the restaurant itself. It reminded me of the little Grill's my Father used to take me to when I was a kid. It brought back some wonderful memories. Here's the bottom line. If you're an old nostalgic fart like I am, you will love this little eatery. The food and service are top notch and the trip down memory lane was much appreciated. I thought the place was far-out, groovy. Peace and love to all.
It was exactly what I expected. Good burgers, good service. Home fries were great. I had no urge at all to burn the place down unlike other reviewers.
If you live in madison, hinkles is definitely a staple. Classic diner setup with delicious greasy food. Don't like greasy food? Then don't come here. Simple as that. Everyone loves it. My friends from Chicago are absolutely obsessed with this place. They've been raving about it for years now. Get a double cheeseburger, home fries with cheese and a wedding cake milkshake. You WILL NOT regret it! Yes, it is a hole in the wall. Yes, it is dirty. But the good is just phenomenal.

My family and I stopped in for lunch and we all ordered sandwiches on separate tabs. All food was served at the same time and was wonderful, very yummy and we highly recommend it for lunch.
For a quick bite that is tasty and not a typical fast food chain try the Red Pepper. The sandwiches are great and they have a variety of tasty homemade soups.
Love this place. In town on business never expected this in a small town. Food is amazing. Tried the pesto wrap first, had wild rice in it, and I loved it
